All right, a brand new and fresh thread...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Mrs W - yes it's tragic isn't it how that unique and potentially important and supportive relationship between mum/child can just not work. Shame is, my mum had a rubbish one between her and her mum and step father which she is horribly bitter about, and there are so many parallels with our relationship, but she just won't see it and certainly hasn't learned from her experiences.

Oh Welshie, I'm sorry you lost your lovely mum. Oops to the "Are you mad?!" response from your dad, it did make me laugh a bit though, sorry . They're really from a different generation aren't they? Is the Sandbanks place near Poole? It's lovely down there.

Tea - OMG! How could he not notice?? I hope you get the car sorted out soon AND get an even better one with the insurance! I should hope his insurance will pay out!! Thank god no one was hurt! - Yes it's my first time in Venice. I'm SO excited! Where should we go??

There's a lot of mice around this thread isn't there? You're all so evil to them though poor things. I cried for weeks when my stepdad squashed one to death in our kitchen on purpose when I was little. When I was a student I used to have a tiny little nightly visitor that I'd feed!

Trib - that is so funny about your friend's mum getting his birthday wrong - I hope he could see the funny side eventually! Thought mine was bad when she couldn't remember what time I was born!

Hi Expectantmum and welcome! Sorry to hear you have the 'flu. A lot of the June ladies have had a cold.

Cooperoo · 21/02/2005 12:16

KVG- We have moved now so sadly this baby will not be at York. Long story but I am not looking forward to the whole birth really as will be in a Cypriot hospital with pethadine only option of pain relief. No water birth and no gas and air! . York were great and did everything I asked them. I was on a bit of a hormonal high after the birth though and thought they were all really friendly to keep coming and checking on me and my dd failing to realise that it was for medical reasons not just because they were being nice! You seem to be able to stay in as long as you want too. No one mentioned going home to me at all, in fact make a note to ask about going home if you feel like it as we stayed in a bit too long really. It was just great to have someone bring me water every morning and have meals made for me for a couple of days. Plus fab midwives. I only came across one old bag and she was not that bad really. Lots of help with feeding, bathing, changing etc although they were keen to leave you to muddle through and learn yourself they were there in a moment if asked. I liked that they were on hand without interfering or making any judgements at all. I made a right mess of dd's first nappy change and ran out of cotton wool and the midwife just got me more of it. She didnt try and take over or make me feel silly or anything and I was so grateful for that. I finished it myself and felt a sense of acheivement. Nappies really were my sticking point. HTH

teabelly · 21/02/2005 12:19

Oh Coop it's difficult isn't it sometimes! Will your dh be able to be with you or will he have to stay with your dd? I suppose it's impossible for your dh to get the time off to join you if you came back here for the birth..? Best laid plans and all that...tbh your dd will probably be quite happy with anyone she knows already (like playgroup/nursery) when the time comes...I know that if my mil or mother weren't able to have my ds when I have this one he'd happily go to anyone who had a copy of Nemo or Ice Age to watch and a chocky or two to eat!

So as you won't be able to join us on the next London or Northern meetup I think it's only fair we have one in Cyprus too so you don't miss out, he he he...now when's the latest date we can fly...

teabelly · 21/02/2005 12:29

Charley there are so many nice places in Venice. We stayed in a hotel between St Mark's Sq and the Rialto bridge, and tbh they're the main tourist traps so you just need to walk anywhere away from there to find breathing space and better prices . There are a couple of lovely parks that are worth a visit - just to sit down and mooch around in. I'm such a piggy tho and the food is delicious so we spent alot of time in restaurants and ice cream parlours . The gondolars are were least £60 a pop (when we last went in 2000) so it's worth getting the 'buses' that go up and down the canals, you can get a day ticket and then hop on and off as you see things/places that take your fancy....oooh I'm so , I've been afew times and just love it

tribpot · 21/02/2005 12:38

I've been to The Venetian in Las Vegas if that counts Someone was getting married on one of the 'bridges' in 'St Mark's Square' when we were there, very odd. But then, that's Vegas!

Cooperoo · 21/02/2005 12:38

I will def make sure dh is with me. As much as I love dd I think him missing this baby being born will stay with him and me whereas dd won't even remember where she was as she will only be two. I do have some other good friends through toddler group and have a reserve lined up fortunately. I will have to make sure that dd gets to know this other mum as well. You are right about the food and DVD idea. As long as she has Bear in the big blue house she is anyones. I know I am reading too deeply into it anyway as I have that little guilt in the back of my mind that the time for just the two of us will be over. I know it will be better with another baby but I still will miss our precious time together. She goes to creche twice a week too so is not with me all the time and I am hoping for a very uncomplicated birth again and to just get home asap after this one. DH will be back to get her asap anyway. Things always fall into place ok.
A meet up in Cyprus sounds great!!

teabelly · 21/02/2005 12:43

Vegas - now that's somewhere I haven't been that I really want to go to. Trouble is sagitarians are meant to be the gamblers of the zodiac and with my propensity to spend money dh doesn't trust me to go!!!

Off to lunch now, so don't chat too much! Will treat myself to a glass of wine I think to cheer me up over dh's crash...weeelll that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

LipstickMum · 21/02/2005 12:46

Aghhhhh! Too much chat!

Tessiebear, have your boys started at their new school this term, or a re you waiting till September? Hope all goes well anyway.

Welcome ExpectantMum, if you can find the Due in June Stats Thread, pop all your details on there so we know all about you at a glance! Sorry you have a cold, I have a blocked nose at the moment, had the cold a few weeks ago too though, it's grim when your up the duff; no drugs

Ok, I need to have some lunch and tidy up, got a really busy day today. Made notes but haven't got time to sit here and type!

tribpot · 21/02/2005 12:46

You need to calm your nerves, teabelly It isn't good for the baby for you to be stressed after all!

Lua · 21/02/2005 13:01

Uff, it took me the whole lunch break to scan through all the messages since yesterday!
Ladies, I was only joking about beating our last record fast thread. At this rate we'll have to start a new one tomorrow for welshie to keep up with us!

It seems like a hrad weekend for all here!

TRib, really soory about your bro - Hope all works out for the best! It all seems very unfair.

Katz - Very sorry to hear about your wories. I am sure it will all be fine!

SCRAGGY - Thank goodness no one was hurt! Hope you get a better car out of the whole mess!

Regarding pumps... I just tough I mentioned that I used both a handheld and an eletric medela with DD and had to say didn't notice any difference in the outcome, IYKWIM...
So I am sticking with a hand held this time. Just bough an avent isis on the go for a good bargain on ebay (NEW!)

Never use sterilizers... boil teats and dummies every now and then... DD is pretty healthy FWIW

MrsW - Thanks for asking about MW visit. She said the little rascal was actually pretty high up, so no eminent birth, yet - all the pains should be just Braxton HIcks...

KVG if you are in York you should come to our northeners meet-up!!! It will be this Sunday on the peaks. Check out the "spa thread". It will be a eating day, instead of spa day though...

Charley I knew you'd be the sort of person to be kind to mice - but feeding the little blighters
I've just done something really indulgent and booked us all into a very posh hotel for 3 nights around Easter. I just thought 'oh sod it I want to be spoilt for a couple of days' I'd never been to Sandbanks and just wasn't in the mood to be disappointed. We've been to this place once before and although it is expensive it doesn't disappoint. Ooooo am secretly really excited now.

Hi all, it's just taken most of my lunch break to catch up with you natterers. So sorry some of you are having a bad time of it.
Trib, I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. Does he really have to wait that long to find out the results?
Katz, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that you and bump are fine.
Teabelly, how awful for your DH. All these things make you remember what's important in life and priorities.
Charley, Venice is so lovely. I went there last year. .. and there I was thinking you were such a mature and together 22 yr old!!!!

Charley/Pink/Mrs Wed, I'm with you on the mother thing. It just heightens my resolve how NOT to bring up my baby. The really wierd thing about my mum is that she is totally different with her 4 grandchildren than she ever was with me and my 2 DB's. The three of us just watch her play with them with our jaws dropping open....

Hi expectantmum, glad you could join us.

Think that's everything. Did someone mention chocolate??

welshmum · 21/02/2005 14:11

KVG
I did play rounders a couple of weeks ago but afterwards I honestly thought I'd done myself some serious damage. So as for doing it regularly - no way.

charleypops · 21/02/2005 14:23

Tea - we're staying just off St Marks Square - something Palace?? Thanks for the tip about the canal buses.

Hee hee Johah - you can rest assured I'm a very immature 35 year old

You know, I have never had a sweettooth in my life, but for the last 3 or so months I've been munching chocolate nearly everyday. I had put it down to pregnancy. But I've just realised, it's because you lot mention the darned stuff at least half a dozen times on a daily basis and it's lodging in my subconscious! It's simply NOT FAIR! What's a girl to do? I'll blame you all for every pound I go over my original 1 and a half stone pregnancy allowance!!

Welshie - I think you should have a nice long close up look at a mousey - they've got such cute little quivery whiskery faces and titchy little hands. Before you know it, you'll be off down the pet shop for half a dozen You are very naughty by the way, but I'm sure your new posh hotel will be worth it - time off with dh is very precious ater all, and half the fun is in being excited for a few weeks beforehand

Does anyone know what the difference is between a gondola and a punt?

charleypops · 21/02/2005 14:28

WElshie - I've just looked at your post on our other thread - that nickname of your (boy?) bump is even more bizarre than ours! (Podrick)

Also, did you ever try changing your internet browser to Netscape? - I was having the same trouble as you posting on long threads until I started using Netscape (was using Explorer)

Charley they are mice. They must be fought and beaten, they must be killed. I think they also have a sophisticated spy network 'the little one at number 42's just started on finger food and her mother's a slattern - party round theirs etc'
I am way too excited about my hotel break now - dd is coming with us though - so finding somewhere to please us all is the difficulty. Done now though - thank goodness I don't have any major outlay for the new baby.
And speaking of chocolate - my delivery arrives tonight care of Ocado, delicious Green and Black's vanilla pod white chocolate

welshmum · 21/02/2005 14:36

KVG - no, not going to Sandbanks - couldn't face the thought of it not being up to scratch and didn't want to take a chance. Going to wallow in unadulterated luxury instead - country house, baby listening, all meals cooked (including dd's in the ' nursery'), swimming, health spa, riding, walking, playgrounds etc etc
Charley - wmffre was simply the most bizarre collection of letters we could find in our welsh names book. It's wmff for short

charleypops · 21/02/2005 14:38

LOL what you need is a labrador Welshie - any mice depending on baby crumbs round at ours would starve!

You're lucky you found somewhere at such short notice!

Yay KVG - a fellow mousey person. We are heavily out numbered here! Ooh - what a funny image - I didn't even know cats slavered

katzguk · 21/02/2005 14:40

any dog will do - our daft grey fluffy heinz dog loves the fact we now have a child who drops all sorts of goodies for her!!

charleypops · 21/02/2005 14:42

Aw - she sounds cute! Our dog's so greedy, he even ate his worming tablets today without me having to hide them in cheese

nab · 21/02/2005 14:43

Apparently this is the place to be!! Very confused as all seems very fast. Plus can't keep up with all these names. Why does nobody use their real name?

charleypops · 21/02/2005 14:43

Someone tell me to go and tile the shower
