OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh Katz yes meant to say too, also keeping fingers crossed here that you're immune

Scraggyaggy · 21/02/2005 07:00

Morning all!

Can't believe you're on Thread 8!! Will catch up x

tribpot · 21/02/2005 08:35

Thanks to all for your good wishes. I do think it will all work out, but my poor bro is going through more guilt; he's the one who can't have kids, which is why they've had to adopt in the first place (obviously not through any fault of his own) and now this. Drives me mad that if Social Services hadn't have taken so flipping long freeing the baby for adoption, it would be a done deal by now. Leaving him to be abused by his birth mother for the first 4-5 months (when she had had already had one child forcibly removed from her) - what a good plan.

Anyway, we'll have to wait and see what happens. Pink, I know in days gone by it was all rather different. A friend of mine is adopted and he said he has letters from the orphanage (as I believe it was called, even though he wasn't an orphan) saying "we've got these three babies, they're all quite nice, which one do you fancy?". Not really ideal!

Katz - fingers crossed for you that you'll be okay.

Charley - Venice sounds brilliant! Sorry to hear about your mum. A friend of mine celebrated his birthday on the wrong day for the first 16 years of his life. He found his birth certificate because he wanted a passport to go on a ski-ing trip with school and said "erm, this says I was born 2 days before we normally celebrate my birthday". His mum had a think and concluded that, yes, he had been born two days earlier than she remembered. Bizarre!

And Cooperoo, welcome aboard!

katzguk · 21/02/2005 09:10

have come to work today, got lots to do and DH is off with DD at home, if i stayed home i would just sit around stressing waiting for the midwife to call which i know shes not going to do until abouts weds with my results.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

tribpot · 21/02/2005 09:27

Katz, I had a look at NHS Direct and it seemed to say that the risk was in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy, which I assume you are out of now?

Obviously I can understand why you're stressed about it, but hope your doc did tell you this bit of info too. Hope you turn out to have immunity, fingers crossed for Wednesday.

katzguk · 21/02/2005 09:29

tri - i'm just on the edge of it, DD would have probably caught it 2-3 weeks ago which would make me 21-22 weeks at the time if my scan date is right (this made me 5 days more PG) so just on the edge. so fingers crossed. The other big stress is DH's dad he has a compromised immune system and this could make him very poorly, he was here last week before we knew DD had it!

katzguk · 21/02/2005 09:30

i've got a big bar of galaxy chocolate to keep me going!

Expectantmum · 21/02/2005 09:37

Morning ladies! MInd if I just say hi and join in? Am 30 years old, 22 weeks pg, due at the end of June. Had flu now for three weeks which is really getting me down now but am excited at the prospect of becoming a mum for the first time.

welshmum · 21/02/2005 09:53

Hello expectant mum and welcome aboard.
Katzguk - am thinking of you over the next few days - hope you get good news.
Charley - really sorry your mum didn't call, parents can be so crap sometimes. My mum died nearly 10 years ago and I really miss her, my dad unfortunately is close to useless. I'm trying to encourage him to be better and he does try but is just so likely to say the wrong thing at every opportunity eg. when I told him I was pg with ths baby he said 'Are you mad?!'......
As for Sandbanks (not Sandilands - got it wrong) it's a family hotel on the south coast.....
On sterilisers I still haven't contacted UCH about their policy - I basically feel that I can't ring them and ask them when they're looking after dozens of prem babies - feels wrong. Will try to find out from somewhere else. Sorry about that all, but that's still what I'll be doing - bf (hopefully) and washing any bottles for expressing in hot soapy water and leaving them to air dry.....

teabelly · 21/02/2005 10:04

Morning all,

Welcome Expectantmum - hope you're feeling better this week

Not a good start to the week for us...an articulated lorry decided to ride roughshod over dh's car this morning, and it looks like our car is a write-off Luckily dh had already dropped ds at nursery so he wasn't in the car and dh himself is ok even though it's the driver's side that's a gonner!!! Luckily also there was a police car near, who managed to stop the lorry driver...who didn't even notice he'd hit someone and was merrily going on his way so at least we have his details...and all of this ontop of noticing by the trail of black droppings that our friendly mice from last year are back again to keep out of the snow, grrrrr - I'd like to say could it get any worse...but as these things come in three I hesitate to tempt fate

On the plus side the auditor's can't make it in this week, so at least work won't be stressful!

welshmum · 21/02/2005 10:10

Oh TB what a bad start to your day - at least your DH wasn't in it - still a big shock though. Hope it's all resolved quickly and to your satisfaction.
We had a mouse around the time dd was getting into her finger food so have sympathy for you - it's horrid. For weeks after we KILLED it I kept seeing imaginary mice out of the corner of my eye.

teabelly · 21/02/2005 10:16

Oh Welshie dh was in the car...but the lorry just took of the front wing up to the door...another foot or two and it would have squished dh ...but coz it was at a mini roundabout everyone was doing virtually no speed so dh was able to manoever the car out of the way abit as it was happening!!! We saw two mice scuttle about yesterday one in the lounge and later one in the kitchen...dh thinks there's only one roaming all over but I think there's more...going by past experience there usually is! Still on the plus side I get to vent my anger and frustration tonight by setting up traps and laying down poison well past the humane methods nowadays, he he he!!

welshmum · 21/02/2005 10:54

He was in there oh my goodness that's awful - you poor things. I'd be shaking like a leaf - are you ok?

teabelly · 21/02/2005 11:06

I'm ok thanks - angry then sad then grateful when I think about it...and dh says he's ok...but usually things hit him a day or two after they happen and he just goes real quiet Physically he's fine tho so that's all that counts, and hopefully the other guys insurance will pay out esp as he didn't even see dh's car let alone stop initially.

MrsWednesday · 21/02/2005 11:08

Your poor DH Teabelly, what a horrible start to the day. So pleased he's escaped injury.

There seems to be a bit of a mouse infestation going on on this board - hope I don't catch it off you (although with two cats it's probably unlikely).

Has everyone got snow? It's coming down quickly here and it's absolutely bloody freezing in my office today. I want to be at home on the settee with a duvet wrapped round me watching the Sex and the City DVD I borrowed from a friend.

tribpot · 21/02/2005 11:12

Ouch Teabelly, glad everyone's okay, what a horrible thing to happen. Glad the police were on hand, any chance of the lorry driver getting done for dangerous driving, or was it genuinely an accident?

We've got some snow here but the sun is shining so I don't think it will last long.

teabelly · 21/02/2005 11:26

Trib...think it was a genuine accident...mini roundabout dh in left lane turning left, lorry in right lane turning left (and indicating intention to do so...but not when dh passed the end of lorry and went up left hand lane) lorry then duly turns left not looking to see if anyone in left hand lane...scariest thing to me is that he didn't even notice he'd hit someone...just rode straight over the car without feeling a thing...first he knew about it was the police stopping him!

teabelly · 21/02/2005 11:29

No snow at work (London) yet...but hopeful there'll be some at home so I get to stay in tomorrow/wed, he he he!

Actually maybe I shouldn't bother with the traps and poison...should just ask Uwila if I can borrow 'Hannah Mouse Catcher' for a day or two!

Cooperoo · 21/02/2005 11:31

Morning all (although it is technically the afternoon for me.) DD is having her nap so I have a quick chance to catch up.
TeaB - What a nightmare for you. So glad your DH is OK although both of you are sure to be a bit shaky for a few days. What a shocker.
Katz - Hope the chocolate is helping and that you are keeping busy. Probably best thing to do. Chicken pox has been doing the rounds here although thankfully I had it when I was younger there are a few pregnant ladies here who haven't and it is a worry.
Hello Expectantmum. Hope you feel better soon. Just paracetamol doesn't quite cut it when you have the flu so I hope you are on the mend.
We have snow up the mountains at the moment. Indeed DH has taken a group skiing today. I am hoping to take dd sledging one weekend soon before it all melts.
I have spoken to a pregnant lady here who has had a tour of the hospital we now have to go to and she was not enthusiastic. Ho hum.
All things in perspective though (which this thread is certainly helping with) I can see it is not the end of the world.
Take care.

KVG - send some snow down the motorway to us please, i'm just in Sheffield so not far!!

teabelly · 21/02/2005 11:52

Ooh KVG that sounds like just the amount of snow I need to keep me at home all snuggled up and toastie for the next few days...just me, ds and our furry house mates ...mind you if I was so busy that I had to be in work it would be another matter...WAGN services are no fun in the snow!!

So Copperoo forgive me if you've already answered this but when do you hope to be back in the UK? Your sledging trip sounds like fun...you never really think of the mountains when you think of Cyprus...so are you actually in Limassol? Sorry for all the Q's I'm just extremely nosy

Cooperoo · 21/02/2005 11:53

KVG - Are you having your baby in York at the district? Is it your first? Just wanted to say I had dd there and they were fantastic. I was lucky and had a waterbirth and we were very well looked after.

TeaB - Just saw your message too. We are hoping to move back in Jan 06 but this is still to be confirmed. If not it will be Jul 06. We have been here 18mths so far. We are at Akrotiri which is south of Limassol but very close. If you look at a map we are on the peninsular that sticks out below Limassol. The mountains are one of my fave bits about being here. The air is so fresh and it is so much cooler up there in the summer. We can see the mountain tops from our house and it is odd to see snow when it is really quite warm down here. I do love it here but I miss my family and friends ALOT. I made two really good friends here when I first arrived one of whom has already left and the second of whom is also going early in May. That will be really sad for us as she has a dd the same age as mine and we see each other nearly every day. She was going to look after my dd when I had this baby but now won't be here so I need to look at it all again. My mum cant come out as she is a teacher and it is term time and I dont want anyone else here. There will be someone I know but I was really happy with dd going to my friend as dd wouldn't have batted an eyelid about it.
