Meglet I'm trying to stop myself wanting a girl to spite him, as don't want baby to get any unwanted vibes if it's a boy (pregger weirdo alert), but I admit it would be quite entertaining to tell him it's a girl...

Re your step mum/dad we have a very similar situation. Both our parents are divorced and remarried, so we have 4 sets of parents to accommodate, my mother and MIL both want to wait in hospital waiting area/cafeteria while I'm in labour (I think they're mad, but am happy for them to do so), and I am terrified that DP's dad and step mum will find out and want to wait as well, we find them both extremely unrelaxing, and don't want hundreds of parents descending the minute I've popped. Luckily think I have dissuaded them by basically lying and saying no one is coming to hospital (will just blame my mum and MIL for turning up if she finds out that they did, they have both agreed to this!) until they are called and invited, and making it clear that DP will not be letting them into the room unless they have adhered to instructions. Luckily DP is v good gatekeeper and understands the insanity of some of his parents!

potxola · 29/08/2008 14:10

Hi to everyone from potxola who is still in hospital and recovering well from her c-section. Her and Lorea are doing fine. All the best

biglips · 29/08/2008 14:14

Take lots of rest and cant wait to see your birth annoucement

Many congrats xx

meglet · 29/08/2008 14:17

hopefully I think I will tell them that's it not that I have a problem with them, but just need some space to recover and learn to bf. I found out last time that bf is not easy after a cs, none of that diginified earth mother stuff for me. It's a boobs out affair with pillows everywhere . Last time I was constantly interuppted by visitors when I was expressing or trying to get DS to latch on and it really didn't help. They are sensible enough to understand if I tell them that, I might say if they pop in for 15 mins then it will be ok. They are helping with DS and live in the same town so will get to see DD non-stop once we are home.

I know what you mean about not wanting to give bad vibes to the baby . Even though I know we're having a girl it took me weeks to call the baby a girl in case it was wrong and upset it [bonkers emoticon].

lollipopmother · 29/08/2008 14:19

Hurrah, word from Potxola! Mega-congrats and all that jazz!

mellabella · 29/08/2008 14:21

hopefully and meglet I'm with you on the visitors bit. My MIL lives in the same town as we do, but thankfully she's the type to know if she's getting too involved, unfortunately my step SIL has already announced that she's coming up to stay with her when the baby is born to come and visit This girl is beyond difficult to talk to and have around on normal circumstances, I'm not really sure how to get her to stay away as she's already told us that she's coming......

lollipopmother · 29/08/2008 14:21

I am freaking out that I might give birth to a son instead of the daughter we've been expecting for the last 20 weeks. I have so got used to her being a her, we call my bump by her name, we are fully expecting a girl. If I get a boy I know I will cry, which will be awful. I feel so guilty already just putting this down, but I will be gutted. I feel like an awful mum just voicing it.

DebitheScot · 29/08/2008 14:22

Hi potxola and congratulations. Good of you to check with us and we all look forward to hearing all the details soon.

carrieon I had a gut feeling last time that ds was going to be a boy and wasn't in the slightest bit surprised when they said he was. Dh thinks it's rubbish that I could 'know' what he was going to be but I was really sure. Of course it is only 50/50 and it might have had something to do with we were 100% of boys name and didn't have a clue for a girl so I 'decided' it would be a boy so I didn't have to think of a girls name!
This time I have no feelings either way and funnily enough we've had problems deciding on both boy and girls names this time.

Noone else is allowed to post helpful ideas of what to pack in hosp bag as there is now no room at all in mine for anything else at all.

Feeling a lot cheerier today, ds has been really good all morning and I had a good night's sleep last night. Only getting up once for a pee and not waking at all apart from then until ds woke up at 6.20 (v early for him). I took 2 paracetemols before bed and think that helped as I wasn't nearly so uncomfy. Don't want to make a habit of doing that but figured once would be fine.

Oh and I also have piles, they don't hurt or itch or bleed but are definitely there, have tried to push them back in a couple of times but it didn't work. I'm not going to do anything about them unless they get sore.

DebitheScot · 29/08/2008 14:59

I know I asked about them weeks and weeks ago but have finally got round to looking at slings. I quite like the look of either the coorie fleech pouch or the peerie pouch here but I'll have to wait till after the baby is born now as they are fitted and require me to measure from shoulder to hip diagonally! Don't think that measurement will work at the moment!

becaroo · 29/08/2008 15:09

congratulations poxtola

Cant wait to hear your story and all about Lorea.

Off to bed. Really tired today.

Ta ta x

DebitheScot · 29/08/2008 15:12

only thing with the coorie one is that it'll only be able to be used by me and dh if we both fit in the same size range and as he's about 5 inches taller than me I doubt he will.

some of the others- close, kari-me, tricot for example look really complicated and also look like they might make me really hot, there seems to be a lot of material.

imoscarsmum · 29/08/2008 16:41

Huge congrats to potxola - very impressed at being organised enough to post on here.

Frustrated as made meatloaf today for freezer and had to sit down 3 times while doing it - there's so much I want to do but can't due to lack of energy ggrrr..

Saw mw and a little bit of sugar in urine (very first time). Took sample about 40 mins after sugary breakfast, so she said it could be that - is this right? I normally take it after I've eaten my watermelon and today I treated myself to a sugar rush brekkie.

Oh, and as to dreams, I dreamt the other night that my cat, oscar, who died last year, came up to me and started breastfeeding from both of my boobs - I felt quite shocked at myself!!

notsoslimnow · 29/08/2008 16:49

imoscarsmum...yes if you have eaten a sugary meal close to urine being taken it often makes the test show a very small amount of sugar.

jearund · 29/08/2008 16:51

Congratulations Potxola! Can't wait to hear the details and also what Lorea weighs. I've posted your news on the Mamis espanolas thread. Enhorabuena otra vez!

Lollipopmother please don't feel bad about how you would feel if it were a boy. I would also find it really wierd. We've bonded with our LOs in the womb and got used to their existence. If we now found we had the opposite to what we expect we would feel a sense of loss for the child we thought we were having as well as the excitement over the one we actually had. I don't think that makes us bad mothers, it's entirely normal. In fact it happened to my SIL 13 years ago but she was in Russia not the UK. (I notice when she did eventually have a boy later she gave him a different name!). I'm pretty sure this is a boy though as they confirmed it at the 4D scan as well as the 20 week one.

plusonemore · 29/08/2008 16:59

congrats potxola!

Come on some more babies! i want birth stories!!

hopefully · 29/08/2008 17:01

Congrats to Potxola. Can't wait until she's out and we get a birth story - I love reading them.

I have just made a loaf of bread, and have already eaten about 1/4 of it. Is this wrong? I only started because it looked like a giant turd and I thought if I chopped the end off it might improve it, and it tasted soooo nice....

milkbeard · 29/08/2008 17:06

debithescot i have got a freedom sling. have a few freinds and SIL who think they're great

milkbeard · 29/08/2008 17:07

p.s all one size so can be used by anyone

MunkiMom · 29/08/2008 18:34

acck!! i don't know whats going on with me this afternoon. i went for a walk on the trail/path here nearby with a friend of mine, mostly to get the kids out of the house. came home and dozed off for a wee bit, and ever since then i've been feeling nauseous and weak...like i just want to sit down or sleep.

it's not nice, i'm sure it has something to do with overdoing it today on the walk...even though i went slow, i probably just walked too far. have played a sympathy card to the DH when he walked in from work so i reckon i'll have a bit of help after dinner. ahhhh!!!

on the topic of having visitors of the family sort right after birth...
sometimes i wish i had family here ((all mine are in the states and the in laws...well, its just not an option hehehe)) so i could have the option of dropping ds off for a night every once in a while, etc. what a relief that would be indeedy!

if i could have one or two (in particular) be here for the birth and right after, i would have them here in a heartbeat!

now, i know i would probably feel differently if they lived here and were around all the time, right? i can see it being a pain having to convince them all to stay away for the beginning...

on that note, i think i need to lay down for a bit of rest...but have a few things to sort out first...
like fynn, licking the ketchup off his dinner plate! hhaaaa!

eandz · 29/08/2008 18:38

so i've been leaking today, but i'm not sure what i'm leaking.

i did that thing, where you hold up your pelvic floor muscles and push down and i definitely leaked/trickled stuff and it's been trickling on and off...so it can't be my water right? since it's not continuous ? biglips this happened to you yesterday right? what happened in the end?

MunkiMom · 29/08/2008 18:43

eandz oooOoooo!!!
waters trickling perhaps???
i think i read that biglips was advised to wear a pad to keep an eye on it, i.e. colour, amount, etc...or at least thats what i think i read?!?

keep us posted hun!!!

eandz · 29/08/2008 18:48

yeah, i'm wearing a pad and it's all (tmi) very damp and ugh-ish. but maybe it's just watery discharge?

Sassafrass · 29/08/2008 19:00

Starlight, she feeds for about 10-20 minutes and almost always falls asleep at teh breast. I usually change her nappy which wakes her up and then she feeds from the other breast as well. During the day she usually feeds every 3 hours, in the evening she often feeds almost constantly. We co-sleep so I'm not sure how often she feeds then as I usually get her latched on and then fall asleep again =)

She's lost 15% of her weight, not really sure where the cutoff is for getting very worried. The electric pump is good though so I'm hoping that will get my milk supply going well. HV checked to see that Katie is latched on properly and thinks she is.

cranmorefifi · 29/08/2008 19:06

sounds like waters trickling to me. That's what happened last time to me and didn't all gush out at once. If you smell it does it smell sweet or amonia like? Because you'll know if it smells of wee...

eandz · 29/08/2008 19:18

thanks cranmorefifi

think i should take my time getting it checked out? or should i get going? the hospital is quite far...
