First time mums expecting Spring babies

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

skiingone - pmsl - parenting via skype. An excellent idea which I think could take off!!! LOL!!!

evs - thinking about you. Big hugs and good luck for tomorrow

skiingone · 01/09/2008 17:33

I think someone is taking over the control of my belly. I went out for dinner to a very fancy restaurant with some friends and some new people I just met a coupe of days ago and f...ed really loudly in a very quiet moment. I had no warning that it would happen ot could control it in any way. I just moved on the chair and it came out... So embarassing...I think I'll stay in till the end of the pregnancy.

daisyj · 01/09/2008 18:19

Ooh, loving the action on here. Suddenly it's got very busy - we seem to be the place to be.

Where's Flirty, though? This is most disconcerting...

skiingone - you're in good company here. My DH was highly amused by the sounds my belly made when I fell asleep on the sofa a few times, as well as the escaping ?air? . Is Sydney where you're from originally - do you know lots of people in London?

AngelDog ? yeah, we?ve had a slightly skewed order of telling people too. Was funny to read your random list. Not sure how pleased DH was that I told my mum before him ? but I was at work and I needed someone to calm me down before I spoke to him.

CE - very glad work's been OK. I'm sure my admiration for you will only grow with our bellies, as you stand up in front of hoards of children on a daily basis. What age do you teach?

Ugh ? the Whittington ? horrid, dingy, Victorian! Avoid at all costs.

daisyj · 01/09/2008 18:20

evs - good luck for tomorrow - keeping fingers crossed.

By the way, I cracked and bought a cute little fleece minidress on the Vertbaudet website. I decided that since there was a 4-week wait for my size, it didn't count as buying anything yet . CE, I'm small too - I'm really hoping to show a bit earlier than 6 months . I'm not sure I can stand not being given a seat on the train every day for another 4 months. I've already had to crouch three times so I didn't vom or faint into the lap of the nearest person. I don't feel really nauseous most of the time, but there's something about standing on the train...

Sorry, keep thinking of new things to say...

skiingone · 01/09/2008 18:41

Daisyj- thanks for letting me know that others are having similar moments....

I spent the last 10 years in Sydney, but I was born in Moscow where I spent about 10 years in total and also spent about 10 years in Germany, France and a couple of other countries. So most of my friends are all over the place. As I just followed my DH to London for his work I only know about 5 people here. Looking forward to some ante natal classes so I could meet more people here.

ChocolateEclair · 01/09/2008 18:50

ooo skiingone - what an exciting life you have had! (I have lived in the same town my whole life except my 4 years at university!)

daisy - well done for buying something! I have not heard of that make - might have a sneaky look at the website later! Boo hoo about feeling rubbish on the train - how awful!

ps. I teach 11-14 year olds in a lovely middle school. I do Science and ICT.

Would be interesting to hear what others do for a job...and hear how you are all going to manage while pg!

daisyj · 01/09/2008 18:50

Wow, that's a perpatetic life - sounds like you're well used to settling in new places. Being pregnant and having LOs is the best way to meet new people, I reckon. You'll have lots of fun

skiingone · 01/09/2008 19:03

Just a thought - would anyone be up for a meet up, maybe a little picnic in Regents park ( weather permitting) on say Saturday 20th of September.

ChocolateEclair · 02/09/2008 07:12

Good Luck today evs at the scan - hoping I come home from work to some happy news from you . I will be thinking positive thoughts for you.

daisyj · 02/09/2008 07:30

Hi CE - we posted at same time, so I missed yours. I'm a book editor, so pretty sedentary, although I do have to go up and down stairs to other departments quite a bit, so that's my exercise! Work are very supportive - lots of child-bearing-age women in the industry, which would collapse without us, so companies tend to have quite good policies. Most people seem to go on maternity leave between 2 and 4 weeks before they're due. I'll have to hold on as long as possible as we need the money .

skiingone - lovely idea. I'm free that weekend, I think. And in case the weather is foul like today, we could have a back-up plan, too.

Builder about to arrive to go over his plan of projected (huge) costs with me - ouch. See you later - will check in to see how evs has got on.

xx

BrightSideOfLife · 02/09/2008 11:30

Hello all,

Room for one more please? I am originally from the Due May '09 thread, but am finding it rather difficult to keep up! Also - as this is my first, I would love to share it with others in the same position.

I am pregnant with our first child - due May 1st (Is that still technically spring? ). It is actually my second pregnancy, as I lost the first at 10 weeks in March. Fingers crossed that this one is a fighter, although I do feel really positive that all will be OK this time around.

And...er...um (trying to catch up with the conversations so far), I am 31 yrs old & my DH is 35 years old, I work in HR (Training & Development), we have told our best friends but no-one else yet and I already seem to suffer from morning noon night sickness! Oh...and I have chosen Kingston Hospital.

Is there a list somewhere, with everyone's due dates? (I am an unashamed list-a-holic )

daisyj · 02/09/2008 14:06

Hi BrightSide, welcome . 1 May is definitely still spring!

I'm in a similar position to you, as I lost my first baby at 11 weeks in March. I've already had two scans. Hard not to panic sometimes - great that you're feeling so postitive. Do you think you'll go for an early scan, or are you planning to hold out?

And you're quite right, we need stats. I?ve copied this from page 1 of the thread and updated mine.

Hi daisy it is great to see you on here I remember you from the Avengers board! I will have a private early scan (i.e. before the 12 week scan) but am not 100% sure when would be best to have one? I thought I might try to hold out until 8 weeks...but not sure if my patience levels will hold out When were your scans?

It is sooooo hard not to panic. Every new symptom and disappearing symptom have me running to the bathroom for my hourly knicker-check!

daisyj · 02/09/2008 17:46

I had mine at 8+3 - it was well worth waiting, as you can see quite a bit by then. It's also quite a good mid-point, I think, so you then don't have an age to wait until 12 weeks. The only reason I had a second one (at 9+4)is because of the panic I mentioned earlier in the thread ( about my imagined spotting). Definitely I wouldn't have it earlier than 7 weeks, as there's a real risk they won't see enough to be sure there's a beating heart, etc., and it would be awful to have to go away with that worry.

Hope evs is OK...

Hi girls - welcome to brightsideoflife! You are in very good company on here - we all know the worries and uncertainty of early pg only too well. I had a mc at 7 weeks in June so have also had an ealy scan. Mine was at 8w 5d and although we couldn't see much it was so reassuring to see a good strong heatbeat.

I would agree with Daisy to try and wait til 8-9 weeks; as any earlier and there is a chance of not seing a heartbeat on a baby when there would have been a week later, and also still a reasonably high chance of mc. I read somewhere that a HB at 9 weeks means a 93% chance of things being ok - very reassuring!

Having said that, it is SO hard to wait! I totally know what you are feeling!

skiingone - think I might have to pass on the meet-up as London is 300 miles from where I live! (North Yorkshire) LOL! I will be with you girls in spirit though! Have fun!

Hope evs is OK - please let us know

I feel really pg suddenly today - my belly is sticking out! (It might be bloating or wind I guess!). BUT I have not been sick - yey!

littleduck · 02/09/2008 21:03

Hi girls and specially big hello to Angeldog, 1wish, Skiingone and Brightside.

Brightside - I am also having my baby at Kingston, allegedly due 30 April (although I am not sure my GP got the EDD right, I thought 28th!) so maybe we'll see each other there!

Skiingone - am around on 20 Sep and would love to join, am busy until around 1pm but could come along if you were meeting in the afternoon?

Was wondering about the private scans myself, this probably sounds like a very stupid question but if you have a private scan early will you still get to have a 12 week NHS scan if those are usually offered in your area?

Hope everyone is well, not too tired at all today although shattered yesterday and at weekend. Still sore boobs and up every night heading to the loo but no sickness yet.

Evs - been thinking of you and hope you had good news today.

Hi girls! Hope all are feeling ok!
"Evs" - hoping to hear good news.

I'm heaving a repeat early scan with Dr Keith Duncan on Friday in C&W as my first one a week ago showed a 3 week discrepancy in scan dates and my estimated dates. But apparently it's reasonably normal - the doctor will just try to check if there are problems with early growth. Going on a 10 days holidays with DH on Saturday, so the doctor wanted to have this done before, so that I can relax and enjoy the trip. Very nice of him.

morning ladies. hooray, good news. scan was all fine - little squashed beany shaped thing with a heart beat. dated at 8 weeks plus 2, edd 12th april. soooooooo relieved, started sobbing when the lovely lady told me it was ok - v v embarassing.

went out for dinner to celebrate so sorry for not letting you know last night. i am praying that the sickness does not strike - may be lucky if made it this far without.

a bit about me, im 31 in 3 weeks, my hubbie is 33. we have a gorgeous irish terrier called ruby who is a bit naughty but v v cute. only told a cpl of close friends, will tell my parents when they come to ours for my b day. we live in north yorkshire. i am a gp so at least i sit on my bum all day and can catch a snooze on my couch now and again!

evs34 · 03/09/2008 09:36

no space left.
how do you add to list?

cannot fit into any of my jeans - i think i have seen the last of my skinny jean days! when is ok to but some mat ones do you think?

cannot believe how relieved i feel as so prepared myself for the worst.

littleduck - i think you would still get your 12 week scan as private sector seprate so nhs unlikely to even know you have had it done! advise not to scan early or you will have the same torture that i have had. try to wait till 8 weeks as will see something good by then.

keep smiling girls. xx

BrightSideOfLife · 03/09/2008 11:23

Morning all,

Evs34 CONGRATLATIONS, that is great news on your scan results. Well done, now go and lie down on that couch of yours . I am rather

To update the list, I just copy it from the post above and paste it in my own post before adding whatever details I need to.

daisy great advise, thanks. I hadn't really thought that a scan at 8 or 9 weeks would minimise the wait until the 12 week scan. I am glad that your scare at 9+4 worked out OK.

CE those are very re-assuring statistics!! I will definitely wait until at least 8 weeks for a scan (Unless there appears to be something wrong obviously!) Great that you are looking pregnant now

hi littleduck , hopefully we will see each other at Kingston (Even if we don't know we are seeing each other IYKWIM!) I will probably be the hysterical woman in reception demanding the epidural

As Evs says, the private scan is seperate to the NHS scan, so the NHS would still scan you at 12 weeks. I do have a friend who told the NHS sonographer that she had already had a private scan and she claims that the NHS Sonographer was really abrupt and rude about it. She still had her NHS scan, but she recommended I don't announce my private scan!

skiing good luck for your scan - it is great that you have such a supportive doctor. It certainly means you will have a lovely holiday. Are you going anywhere fun?

Hello girls!

evs34 - well done and congrats! Glad that all is good.

brightsideoflife - going to Paris for 3 days and then for a week to a little village close to St. Tropez - a romantic holiday planned a few months ago ( pre pg). Not feeling too romantic nowadays and being really bloated don't look so good in any of my fitted clothes anymore. Will try to make the most of it anyway.

Hope everyone is feeling ok!

littleduck · 03/09/2008 19:09

Hi everyone!

Evs34 - fantastic news! So pleased to hear that little bean is thriving, hope you managed to get a little snooze on the sofa if you needed it!

Thanks to evs34 and Brightside for advice re: private scan, I'm quite tempted to go at around 9 weeks or so.

Skiingone - all the best for your scan, your holiday sounds lovely, I hope that the weather stays good for you and that you have a great time.

A bit about me - I am 36 and DP is 40, we live in South West London, I work as a tax adviser (yes you can go to sleep now......). No pets of my own but would love a dog one day, making do with making a big fuss of my friends' dogs for now.

Hope everyone's well today
