First time mums expecting Spring babies

FlirtyThirty · 19/08/2008 11:38

Hello!

I'm expecting my first baby on 24 April. I'm currently only 4+4 but have NO symptoms at all! Have just retested as I'm convinced I've imagined it!

Went to Dr yesterday to share the news and have to wait for hospital 'choose & book' paperwork so that I can arrange first scan for around 10 October.

There seems to be so many decisions to make all of a sudden...

Anyway...just wondered how you other first timers were finding things...or your other halves for that matter. Mine is still in total shock in spite of this being a planned baby!

binky how great that your scan went so well!!! Will you find out the sexes?

I don't know anything about a Cervical Stitch but thought I saw a thread on the Pregnancy boards about one not too long ago?

Kalikaroo · 26/09/2008 13:25

Hi all!
Thought I'd let you know how everything went at the 12 wk scan I had this morning. I had to have a cervical swab taken to check for any infections (sorry if TMI!) followed by an internal trans-vaginal scan (this is standard where I live). I was really worried about it beforehand, but the obstetrician (male) was very businesslike and did everything really quickly and expertly. The swab honestly took 2 seconds!!

Scan was a bit uncomfortable, but I forgot all about it when I saw bubs on the screen! I'm 13 weeks exactly today (a bit later than we thought) and I'm due on April 3rd.

Has anyone else developed a weird heartbeat while pregnant? I'm missing every 5th beat, but MW says it's just my heart adjusting to greater blood volume.

daisyj · 26/09/2008 13:41

CE really love your names, particularly Roxie. We?re thinking of Evie Celine (my grandmother?s name) or Reuben Nathaniel. Or maybe India (for a girl, obv), but is that a bit pretentious? It?s just that we both like the name, and DH?s great-great-grandmother was Indian and he has a lovely hooked Kashmiri nose to prove it!

I also love Mathilda (Matty) for a girl, but DH says no way

bicnod - so pleased for you ? it?s always best to do whatever will help keep you sane ? and it?s so, so exciting the first time you see that wiggly bean and the little heartbeat.

binky - fab news about your scan too. Sounds like they are taking great care of you. A friend of my mum?s had a cervical stitch because of a previous second-trimester miscarriage due to an incompetent cervix, and as far as I can gather it?s really simple and effective, so it?s good that they?re taking precautions for you. Great that work is being supportive, too. It?s made all the difference to me. Everyone seems so genuinely pleased for me, and they keep laughing at my little pot belly.

Kalikaroo - lovely to have all these great scan stories today . My heart definitely beats faster sometimes, yes, and sometimes not even from exertion. I do occasionally get missed beats anyway, and have noticed that a bit more in the past week or so, as, I guess, the amount of blood pumping round increases.

As for names being ?taken? by other people ? three of our friends (who all know each other) have called their sons Thomas in the past two years, and my cousin?s new-born daughter is Eva, and she knows we are thinking of Evie and doesn?t mind at all, so it?s always worth seeing what people?s reaction is if you suggest that you might want to ?use? their DC?s name, I reckon.

Have a fab weekend, everyone. We?re off to stay in DH?s couisn?s place in Kent for a bit of respite care from the stresses of not living in our own flat (I had a big whinge about this elsewhere last night, so I won't bore you here).

xx

Just dropping in to say hello. I added myself (plus a little blurb to the list) I too am terrified something is wrong. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it still doesnt feel real to me atm. I am desperate for my scan on the 14th (1 good thing about my doc being a dunce is that I will have my scan at 11+3 rather than have to wait around for another whole week and a half!!) I just want to see bub is ok.

I dont have y booking in with the midwives until the 14th either, is this normal or should I at least have some midwife contact by now??

Hope everyone is all going ok, esp the fully proficient frolickers! who were over on the TTC thread xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

that was supposed to say 28 day cycle but you guys guessed that didnt you

daisyj · 26/09/2008 16:38

heverhoney - lovely to see you here - glad you found us. And great to hear a positive stupid-GP story [sarcastic emoticon].

If I understand you correctly and you're booking in with the midwives on the same day as your scan I reckon that should be fine. If you need anything before then you can always get the community midwives' number and speak to someone.

Wow, there's 14 of us now!

FlirtyThirty · 26/09/2008 18:05

Hi ladies - just a quick one from me today as I've been feeling particularly crap and am off back to bed. SO SO tired! Am 10weeks today and can't decide if my little pot belly is PG related or was always there and I'm just taking more notice of it!

Oh, and Hever - I have a 25day cycle and the midwife/Dr have not adjusted my due date accordingly. Midwife says they will go by the scan date anyway so no point.

Girls who've had scans...delighted for you all! Whay happy stories...I hope ours is as good in 3 weeks!

Morning gorls!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
Heverhoney - welcome to our little group of newbies!

Blinky and kalikaroo - so glad about your great scans! It's so nice to see what's happening there when you can't feel it.

Well I had my third scan yesterday (nuchal this time). I know I'm very lucky and my ob scans me every single time I visit ( so every few weeks).
This one was more detailed though. It was an abdominal scan ( no internal exam or scan) and then I also had my blood taken to check for pretty much everything. Blood results will be ready in about 1 week.
Due to my age Down syndrom chance was something like 1:450, but my ob said that the nt measurment was normal ( I didn't ask what exactly it was - "normal" is good enough for me), so the risk went down to 1:2000, which I think is good.
Anyway...my possible boy must have lost its willy in the meantime and this time my OB said that the baby looked more like a girl, but could not say for sure...I asked him not to tell me if he didn't know for sure. So he said he will try to check again at my next appointment/ scan in 3 weeks and then will keep checking until we know for sure. Will then look into names.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
X

Jools1 · 27/09/2008 19:58

Welcome HeverHoney

Skiingone - glad the nuchal went well. It is the milestone I am dreading as I will be 39 when it is time for that.

A question for everyone further along than my 5+1 - I'm feeling fat, fat, fat and am trying to work out if this is:

  • Normal early PG bloating
  • An embryonic bump
  • Simply the result of not doing much at the gym for a couple of weeks as a result of a rotten cold
  • The by-product of 2 week wait stress and consumption of FAR too much chocolate

Having lot a lot of weight before TCC, I am desperate to make sure I only put on baby weight and don't pig out and end up huge once baby is out ..

When did you all start to feel you had a thicker waistline ??

ChocolateEclair · 28/09/2008 08:37

Hi everyone - having a fabulous chilled out weekend and sleeping for England! Hope you all are too!

binky, kalikaroo and skiingone - soooo glad your scans went well. It is so very reassuring seing your little bean(s) wiggling around! Had to laugh at the baby now looking like a girl - think you were right to tell him you didn't want to know unless he was sure!

Binky - the story about your dh waving back at the screen made me cry! ....hormones!

jools - I am 14 weeks today and have only recently noticed things getting a bit tight round the waist. I know it's different for everyone though. Have you actualy weighed your self? as it is quite likely just bloating.

welcome to heverhoney - I know what you mean about stupid gp's/mw! Because I got pg straight after a mc and therefore didn't have a LMP it has caused them all sorts of stress! They wouldn't listen to anything I said about temping/charting/knowing exactly when I conceived! As has been said though, they will go by your first scan for dates as they are pretty accurate!

Daisy - I realy like your names also! I love India, and don't think it's pretentious at all! Also really really like Matilda (Tilly for short) but DP not so keen! We are just adding names to our lists as we hear one we both like!

I am going to google about the strange heartbeat as I have noticed mine racing quite a lot, plus I'm getting out of breath walking up hills! I will report back!

As a funny aside, I dreamt last night that our baby was born and was a girl (with a full head of dark hair!) - although bizarrely DP gave birth to her as I wasn't feeling up to it! LOL!

CE xxxxxxxxxxxxx

skiingone · 28/09/2008 11:27

Morning girls!

CE - wouldn't it be great to have the option of DP giving birth if we didn't feel like it on the day... ( or ever!)

Jools - I got very bloated pretty much as soon as I discovered I was pregnant. I'm still more bloated than anything, especially in the evening. Can't close buttons on any of my jeans/ trowsers. I think this is normal and there will be still lots of bloating till the very end I'm afraid.

Hugs to everyone else x

lolianja · 28/09/2008 15:21

Hi gang. Hope all's well.

@BinkyB - thank you! Will be visiting the new arrival on Tuesday and am a little less miffed about the "theft" of Matthew and Nicholas now. We didn't use a baby book for names, just sat at the kitchen table in my boyfriend's house and scribbled down all the names we liked.

@ChocolateEclair - lovely names. Just gorgeous.

We've got our final name list now!

Girls: Anna or Rosie - 1st choice(s). Anna just has the edge. Standbys in case neither suits: Lara, Jasmine, Kirstie, Diana, Alexandra, Daisy, Zoe, Tessie, Mandy, Beth, Molly, Sophie. We did love Madeleine, but the baby will be taking my boyfriend's surname, which is McCusker. I think Madeleine McCusker's adorable in itself but we were both a little irked by inevitable future allusions to a certain high profile tragedy there.

Boys: Max, Jack, Charlie, Joshua, Noah, Thomas, Seth, Noel, James, Benjamin, Michael, Joseph, Andrew, Daniel, Robert, Jason, David, John, Alexander, William, Harry, George, Steven, Mark, Lawrence, Sam, Eli and Edwin. Our list shrinks and then grows again on a daily basis. Actually, typing that boy list has made me realise there is still a trace of bitterness at the lack of Matthew and Nicholas.

Am amused by how British the combination of a super-traditional name and McCusker will sound, given how mixed the baby's heritage will be! I'm Russian, Ukrainian, Israeli, Iranian Jewish, Pakistani and Danish/Estonian. Boyfriend is half Scottish (Irish descent hence the surname) and half Italian Jewish! So bambino'll be just your average 21st century mongrel then!

Just thought I'd update my progress on the list as well!

Oh well - the bloating will be worth it

I get very bad bloating post OV anyway and get very self-conscious for a week or two every cycle - almost have to had a second wardrobe for those weeks I guess this is just an extension of the same thing.

I'm back on a gym regime anyway, so hopefully I can keep things in check.

Started worrying about not having had any nausea for the last couple of days, then the PG hormones went into overdrive this afternoon, with DP bearing the brunt and now I feel sick

brettgirl2 · 28/09/2008 16:21

Hi all - I'm also a 30+ (31) first timer... but not in London!

Bit nervous have 12 week scan tomorrow so will add myself to list if all is OK.

I keep going throught that worrying about not feeling nauseous then feeling nauseous and wishing everything that I felt better too.

skiingone · 28/09/2008 20:25

Welcome brettgirl!

Good luck with your scan tomorrow. Let us know how it goes!

BrightSideOfLife · 29/09/2008 10:24

Good morning all!

I hope everyone had great weekends - I could get used to this sunshine!

My weekend was lovely - my best friend was visiting from the Netherlands and we spent a lovely, girlie weekend shopping and catching up. I really miss not having her closer.

I am doing OK - the morning sickness comes & goes (And obviously picks the worst time to start - like in the middle of a dinner with 12 other people on saturday night ) We heard the heartbeat faintly on the doppler last night so I am grinning for the next few days

lolianja what a lovely selection of names!! You have two of my favourites, my DH's name, my father's name and a good friends name on there so you have my stamp of approval

welcome brettgirl Good luck for your scan!

jools I know what you mean about the bloating. I am just past 9 weeks and by the end of each day I cannot do my jeans up anymore. I am sure it is a combination bloating and hormones, try not to worry too much. I hope you are feeling better.

Ok ladies...a slightly
one... DH and I have only had sex twice in the last 2 months (I'm 10+3). Trouble is that I have felt either sick or totally knackered. WE are very affectionate still but I just don't feel like it. At the weekend DH asked me if my sex drive had changed as I seem to have totally lost interest? I felt AWFUL. I told him him that it wasn't something to worry about and that it was just that I felt sh*t but I know feel guilty. Thing is...I don't think I even have the energy to make myself do it...I'm SO tired. Also, I worry that and pressure on my tummy will make me sick...

We will get over this...but just wondering if I'm the only one going through a 'dry' spell...

OP posts:
Jools1 · 29/09/2008 11:00

Hi Flirty - well I've kinda lost interest, despite not feeling particularly ill but am resolved to keep DP happy Am also irrationally worried about it possibly harming bean Hopefully I'll feel better about things as the weeks go on, as I think DP feels a bit shut out at the moment

He, however, is also a bit scared to touch me at the mo. I am only just beginning to realise how little clue he has about pregnancy but I don't want to force-feed him information, so have just found a couple of books - one lighthearted from a mans point of view and left them strategically lying around in the hope he reads, digests and then understands more.

BinkyB · 29/09/2008 11:33

Sex, Flrity? Lord no! Poor old DH has tried to do the do to me in his sleep, wakes up and realises what he's doing mumbles 'oh sorry babies' and then goes back to sleep on his side of the bed - ha ha. I keep telling him PG women are mad for it in 2nd trimester (apparently true - hormones again!) and reminding him that I will be sick if we try anything remotely 'bouncy'. Hoping this sickness and constant dread I'm going to lose the babies will pass soon and then will be back in business!

So today ladies I tried one of those naff 'baby on board' badges from London Underground. And no one gave me a seat still! Rotters. All far too absorbed in their FTs.
Guess they had a Monday morning feeling too!

Hope your weeks are all getting off to a good start.

FlirtyThirty · 29/09/2008 11:55

Oh, Binky! Thank God it not just me! DH didn't mean to upset me...but I did feel really crap about it afterwards. I agree completely, I would be terrified of being sick on him! Talk about killing the passion...

F.x

OP posts:
BrightSideOfLife · 29/09/2008 12:07

I am exactly the same!! I just can't imagine doing the deed with DH at the moment - I feel too exhausted and am also terrified of any pressure making me sick.

I am promising DH all sorts of 'treats' in the second trimester. Those rumours about the hormones BETTER be true...

skiingone · 29/09/2008 12:14

Morning girls!

I'm glad I'm not alone.
Despite my usually healthy libido, I'm completely not interested atm and have lost it as soon as I got pg. I told my DH that I just really didn't feel like it amd he's waiting patiently ( not making any advances) for the magical second trimester...
I'm feeling reasonably well well,so I don't need to worry about being sick on him, just bloated, but somehow just don't want any sex at all. Not sure this will change soon or not, but I don't feel like initiating anything.

Blinky - If you are feeling unwell on the tube, just go over to one of those seats allocated for pg women and definitely taken up by some healthy bloke and tell him you're not feeling well and ask for his seat. I recommend clutching a plastic bag in your hand!
I think you have a right to do this! especially carrying two of them!

XX

Bicnod · 29/09/2008 13:11

Lack of libido over here as well... compounded by the fact that I've got a stinking cold and have spent the past two nights getting no sleep whatsoever and blowing my nose every two seconds... you can't take ANYTHING when you're pregnant. In fact, I was so annoying last night that DH slept in the living room... so DEFINITELY no chance of any rumpy! Haha.

I'm hanging on for the second trimester (as is poor DH) - fingers crossed it isn't just a myth?!
