Hi bonym, Hello all

Bonym do you know what your having? my own impatience and need to know is killing me

How are you feeling? anything swollen or giving you jip? I'm pretty much kool and the gang aside from a mild case of SPD (pelvis misalignment) due to new suppleness of pelvic region. I'm a bit concerned about my boobs they havent changed much at all, I just hope my milk comes in before baby cause I'm bone dry at the moment

Oooh! Very exciting about Shalaa! I guess her curry worked after all!

So its all starting!!!!

Welcome Tamula!
Bonym, you must be really pleased not to be the only one at the only one on the list at the end of March.

Popsycal - I hope you get your wish to get induced ASAP! If my baby has dropped next time I see the doctor I'm going to see what he says about it as well. I think these last few weeks of pregnancy discomfort are probably the last thing we need before the baby arrives!

Yesterday I felt really bad, have such a bad cold I just wanted to lie down and sleep, but I am only comfortable lying down for a short time, then the hips, belly, legs everything starts to hurt. Seems to be better to keep changing place though - from bed to sofa 1, to sofa 2 to spare bed etc...

Tamula - my boobs have grown massively but no sign of anything milk like or otherwise yet. i guess that may not happen until after the birth.

Misdee, great news that you get to spend the weekend with your dh!!!!

Hope all goes well tomorrow Misdee (if you are still around) and Preggiemum!

welcome tamula, not sure what you mean by a thread killer!
we've been predicted a fairly healthy size baby but consultant says that's no problem. i feel quite pleased in a way, that it's robust or something.
did a workshop on water births at the actice birth centre yesterdaay and it was very good. nice to be with people that really promote natural birth with natural pain relief. i know we can't be sure that that's possible and sometimes complications are too serious but it sounded soooooo cool to hear about all the people who can do it.
went for a lovely walk this morning on hampstead heath and feeling relaxed.
so much good luck misdee tomorrow, and way to go shalaa!
we're on our way marchers.......

Leogaela · 20/02/2005 14:43

Sweeney, if all goes well (!!!) i am hoping to give birth in water birth. The workshop on sounds interesting. What were the most imporant things they told you about?

Hello - I have just discovered Mumsnet - a bit late in my pregnancy. I am due on 27th Feb but I hope it is ok to chat to you because I met Leogaela on another thread and we seem to be in a similar situation - also I am convinced I will be at least two weeks over due which takes me into mid march. I am hoping for a lovely water birth at home and have the pool all set up ready but baby's head is not going down and I think it keeps moving round. My midwife and I keep talking about what we should do and I haven't been to see a doctor about it yet. Baby is always head down when I see her and at 38 weeks it was 4/5 palpable which is promising. So I am sitting on my birth ball and going to see a chiropractor next week. Hoping that the situation will resolve itself and I can have my lovely labour and birth at home. Really don't want to be induced but i imagine that without the head pushing down on the cervix I am unlikely to go into labour myself. Still early days yet - only just 39 weeks today. Anyway it is good to see there is a supportive community of mums all due around the same time. I look forward to chatting to you some more and hearing all your stories as our babies put in their appearances.

Nettie01243 · 20/02/2005 16:40

Oh extra bits of information - We are going to have a suprise ( I think I will be suprised either way that I actually have a baby let alone a son or a daughter) and I am a student midwife (like Tamula) so find myself over analysing everything - I think sometimes ignorance is bliss!

Hi Leogaela, Thanks for the list, nice to see my name on it!

Hi Sweeny, What I meant by thread killer is that a topic/thread will be merrily threading away, until of course I post a response and then somehow, someway no-one ever posts again on that topic!!

Hi Nettie01243 and welcome, where are you training? My boyfriend takes the mickey all the time and says that I only moan about things beacuse I am aware that they exsist and if I didnt know I'd have nowt to say, there may be a drop of truth in there somewhere but I'm pretty sure that I'd still have plenty to say! I am training at City of London.

I'm going to have a bikini wax 2 weeks before my due date, my friends think I'm mad but I simply must maintain neat and tidy, particularly at special occasions! Is anyone else bothered by such frivolity or am I the only shallow hal?

Nettie01243 · 21/02/2005 15:02

Hi - Definately agree that Knowledge makes the experience more worrying in some ways but on the other hand I think that labour will be better because is isn't a big unknown and we will be more able to make decisions in the heat of the moment. - as far as the bikini wax is concerned I think it is a good idea but sounds a bit to painful for my liking - a good trim will have to do - if I can see!

Leogaela · 21/02/2005 15:13

First, a question - this weekend I will be 38 weeks. Dh has suggested that we go to the mountains for a few days. on the one side I think it would do us a lot of good, but on the other hand on a good day it would take 3 hours to drive back home, there's a lot of snow around at the moment so it could take a lot, lot longer. Is it too close to the due date to risk going? Or should I not worry about it and go anyway?

Nettie & Tamula - I think having the information you have would be great. The rest of us are relying on the internet and other people for information when we are worried about something.

Tamula - go for the waxing! Maybe you aren't going to get a chance to go for a while afterwards! I am not keen on waxing down there, but as I can't see anything dh helps me out!

Nettie - is it your first baby? If so then good on you for going for a home birth. I considered a birhting centre at the beginning which wouldn't have been any different than being at home, but as its my first I didn't feel confident enough for it.

I wonder how Midee, Preggiemum & Shalaa are doing!

OP posts:
Pidge · 21/02/2005 15:42

My goodness it's ALL been happening on this thread!! Welcome to Tamula and Nettie.

And good luck Shalaa. Wow you might even have your baby by now. Not to mention misdee and preggiemum. And Girly with her fully engaged baby! A veritable cascade of March babies potentially putting in an appearance.

With all of you guys threatening to pop out your babies early, I am more sure than ever that mine will compensate by being overdue!! I don't mind for the moment, am quite enjoying my newfound life of leisure. In fact I'm just emerging from a super long afternoon nap. Lovely. But I guess in a week's time I'll be getting quite keen for this baby to emerge. We have our bright orange inflatable birth pool set up in the living room! And I am also getting into agony if I sit still or lie down for too long. I wake up with my hips completely locked stiff and have to hobble around wincing before they recover!

Leogaela - I would go for the trip - assuming you'll not be completely in the middle of nowhere. We just went away and were a 3 hour drive from home, though of course I took my notes just in case. It's pretty unlikely that things would happen that fast - particularly first time round. But I know other people might be more cautious than me. And if there's any danger of being snowed in, that's not such a good plan!

sweeney · 21/02/2005 16:10

leogaela-i think the most important info was not to enter the pool until 5/6 cms dilated otherwise contractions might slow down too much. there was a lot of emphasis on privacy and low lighting and aromatherapy. also talk about how safe it actually is as long as the midwife knows what to do. the best thing was the impotance placed on the fact that we can do this thing without all that medication and as little intervention as possible. it made me feel more confident.
( just seen it's snowing like crazy outside!) the water birth thread is good info giver and general boost to natural pain relief.

Nettie01243 · 21/02/2005 17:07

Hi - yes this is my first baby but I feel that the hospital is only 10 minutes away be ambulance and I can change my mind at any time and go in for an epidural or anything else. I feel it would be a shame to have a completely straight forward birth in the hospital and then be under all their systems when I could have been here doing what I liked. As you say a birth centre offers all the same things so i reckon home or consultant unit. Leogaela - as this is your first baby then most likely you would have lots of warning that you were going into labour and time to get home but on the other hand would you want to travel for three hours in the car with early labour pains? Also some people do have very fast labours and it isn't predictable. Definately take your notes as someone else said.

Pidge - I have found that I got pain in my hips at night from lying down as well but have sorted out the problem by sleeping with a pillow between my knees - something to try if you haven't already. - Someone else with a pool - it is so exciting to have it there - I am just worried that we will not have enough hot water on the day!

bonym · 21/02/2005 20:47

Welcome Nettie - good to have another home water-birther on the thread!
I wonder how misdee, shalaa and preggiemum are getting on? Can't wait to read their birth announcements.
Leolgaela - personally I wouldn't take the trip - but then I have become much more cautious about everything as I've got older . My 1st labour was only 5hrs 50mins from start to finish - as Nettie says, just because it's your 1st, doesn't mean it will be slow. Sorry - don't want to scaremonger - chances are you'll be fine

KerryJ · 21/02/2005 21:50

Another newbie here! Hi everyone! I'm due on 27th March, which may please those of you due later in the month - had a quick look at the due date list and I appear to be last

Quick intro...I'm Kerry (not very enigmatic username!), married to Steve and we already have a ds, Rowan, who is 3.5. The sex of this baby is a surprise, although I have been buying blue, I'm that sure we're going to have another boy!

Also planning a home birth and will be having my pool delivered in a couple of weeks time. Got a Gentlewater one in the end, which is heated (our water system is dire and I wanted to make sure we didn't run out!)

Look forward to chatting to you all more in the next few weeks (wish I'd found you earlier!)

Nettee · 22/02/2005 09:37

Hi Kerry - heater in the pool sounds very sensible - we have a boiler man coming today - 3rd one in the last few months - so hopefully will have enough hot water! I have no idea what sex my baby is - no mothers intuition at all - everyone keeps telling me it will be a boy though and I am beginning to be convinced.

popsycal · 22/02/2005 09:46

in case you missed Misdee's birth announcement!!!

Pidge · 22/02/2005 10:06

Great to hear we have our first graduate - though who knows if PreggieMum and Shalaa are the other side of the great divide too!

Nettee - I too have the pillow between legs technique. Still demonstrating an incredible hobble when I first get out of bed though! I was planning to swim today to try and limber up my leg muscles, but am looking out of the window at the trickle of snow and feeling a bit pathetic, so may stay home and eat a biscuit instead .

The birth pool we have now looks absolutely huge, so I hope we have enough hot water to fill it. In theory we have hot water on demand, so should be ok. But we too have a boiler man booked today to do a service just in case!

Leogaela · 22/02/2005 10:23

Its great news about Misdee! And the baby wasn't as big as she expected either was it???

Can't wait to hear the news from Shalaa & Preggiemum!

Welcome to KerryJ! If you look through the list most of the people that know what they are having seem to be having girls, so most of us that don't know have the feeling that we are having a boys...!

Wow! So many of you going for waterbirths at home! I am really looking forward to knowing how you all get on!

Pidge, I've been suffering with the hip problem for months! And needing time to get the stiffness out of me when I stand up, I am bent over double for quite some time. The pillow between legs doesn't seem to work for me, I've tried everything I can think of. The last few days have been better and I can think of 2 reasons - I haven't been working so am moving around a lot more and i have been rolling onto my back again in the night! Bad for the babies position I know, but it just happens spontaneously so I am not going to fight it and it wakes me up after a while anyway. I was also put off swimming a while ago because of the cold weather.

I think we've decided not to go to the mountains as its not going to stop snowing at the weekend so its too much risk if we need to get back home. And anyway dh (being typical spoilt swiss) is only a fair weather skier! I can't believe we have so much snow this year! The only year I can't get on my snowboard!!! Although dh did suggest we go for a week at the end of March, depending on when the baby arrives (soon please!!!!) and how it arrives maybe....!!!!

I went for an acupuncture session yesterday - anyone else done this? - it didn't go too well. i ended up almost completely blacking out and the MW had to take all the needles out. Was very strange as i was very relaxed and not at all nervous. She thinks it may be because of my bad cold so I'm going to try again tomorrow!

Nettie - have you seen the chiropractor yet?

We haven't heard from lots of the others for a while!

Hope you are all doing well!

OP posts:
3mummy · 22/02/2005 10:28

Well done to Misdee! So Shalaa, Preggiemum, girly and pidge..... how are you all doing? Any signs yet?

I'm getting frequent braxton hicks, but that's nothing new! Not due for another month anyway (oooh, that sounds soooo long!! ). I do hope baby comes a bit early, a week or 2 would be nice as my due date is only 2 days before dd2 birthday. Speaking of which have any of you any good ideas as to what I can plan as a celebration - I daren't use the word party as it cunjours up images of 20 kids running round like mad things and me organising it all!!! Please if you can offer any suggestions do, as this is my main worry at the moment.

The chicken pox is now subsiding, and the Doc made me get tested for immunity - results back Thurs.

Hope all your home birth plans are going well - I'm very impressed, I've never known so many (planned) home births!!

Short painfree labour vibes to all who are due!

Pidge · 22/02/2005 10:40

Leogaela - glad it's not just me - I am feeling most indigant about my hips seizing up, as otherwise I'm pretty mobile. Dp just laughs as I wince and hobble about!!

I may be due a week tomorrow, but I reckon there's going to be no jumping the gun for me with this baby. I just don't feel like I'm going to go into labour any time soon. May be a false sense of security, but last time round I felt I knew several days in advance - I had a show on the Thursday, bad period type pains all day Saturday, painful contractions every 10 minutes for 2 days from the early hours of Sunday, then full-blown labour with contractions every 2 minutes from early hours of Tuesday, dd didn't actually emerge till 8.30pm Tuesday evening! So I have it in my head that I'll get a lot of warning. My mum does keep telling me that she had a similar first labour to mine and that my younger brother then shot out in under 3 hours, so maybe I shouldn't be so blase!

It is just too cold to swim isn't it? That's my excuse. I have a 15 minute walk to see the midwife later, and that'll have to be my exercise for the day.

bonym · 22/02/2005 12:25

Despite the freezing weather, I did get to my aquanatal class today and it was lovely! So nice to be in the water (which was really warm btw) and to feel free of all the aches and pains for while. Jogging and jumping just can't be done on dry land! I also feel much less tired today than I have been for the last week so think it must have done me some good - I was starting to feel really cheesed off with feeling so exhausted all the time - the slightest exertion seemed to wipe me out. I've also been feeling mcuh more emotional the last few days - dh also seems to have been ultra sensitive so we have been upsetting each other a bit over really trivial things which is completely unlike us. We always make up quickly though . I guess these last weeks are tough for everyone.

Welcome to Kerry - nice to have another late March person - looks like I won't be the only one left on the thread after all!

Misdee's daughter looks gorgeous - have you all seen the photo? I guess we should be hearing from Shalaa and Preggiemum soon - I keep scanning the birth announcements!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.
