obs, i'm not that far from kings, but may be a little bit occupied myself to visit! my personal target is to get to oct 14th (36 weeks). can you line up at least one visitor per day so you don't get 4 in one day and no-one the next? i will be calling people to come and visit me if i get bored . there is nothing worse than being in hospital and surrounded by other people's noisy visitors!

Oblomov · 19/08/2008 10:53

No visitors for me. It is too far.
My cloest friends live in Devon, Leatherhead, portsmouth, Colchester and Walthamstow.
Too far for any of them to visit to Kings.
It will just be me and ds2, on our own for 5 days.
Infact, I am not sure they will let ds1 in to see ds2.

ChocOrange05 · 19/08/2008 11:18

Obs when are you going in to hospital - I could come visit and get some mothering tips!

OP posts:
Oblomov · 19/08/2008 11:36

Choc, you would be more than welcome.
No seriously, this wasn't a sympathy vote. I didn't expect any MN visitors, not after our Dozy meeting - is that Oct 4th - can't remember.
We will all be too big and in a state by the time I give birth.
MerryM is trying to get to 36 weeks? which takes her to mid Oct. I suspect, and this is based on nothing more than gut instinct, I think I will be shortly after her - mid to third week of Oct.
We shall see.

By the way. My best friend says that my bump is not that big. Not compared to others, or to ds1.
But she says my nipples are enormous. Like saucers. I was lying in the bath and she was talking to me, and she says she doesn't know where to look.

ChocOrange05 · 19/08/2008 11:38

Obs I will be on maternity leave then and probably bored out of my brains (unless my bump is nice to me and arrives a little early as requested!) so I will keep it in mind!

Dozy do I need to do anything re the meet up on 4 Oct - can't remember!

OP posts:
ChocOrange05 · 19/08/2008 11:39

Actually Obs / Dozy - I thought the meet up was on the 3rd??? Can someone confirm?

OP posts:
Oblomov · 19/08/2008 11:40

I think I might need some Book swap guidance on a good book to take in with me.
5 days is a long LONG time.

Ido need to find out what hospital policy is on children coming in. Lots of hospitals don't let siblings in. Understandable. Germ wise. I think.

Oblomov · 19/08/2008 11:41

Choc, well come on over then. I would love it.
yes when is meet up ?

Oblomov · 19/08/2008 12:02

"Dozy: London meet up the first friday in Ocrtober "

So, I make that :
Fri 3rd Oct.

Dozy can confirm, I am sure.

tablefor3 · 19/08/2008 12:29

Thanks for all your kind words! I agree that my bump looks small because I am so tall (at least that's the logic I use for my ar*e too!). And MW did say that the heartbeat was good and strong and it kicks like crazy, so that all seems fine.

Rather sweetly DH has given the bump a lecture on how it is to channel some of the kicking energy into growing energy. We shall see.

My sympathies for all of you with leg/pelvis pain. I have s few twinges, but nothing like you all describe. Hope the physio/drugs are working.

ceebee74 · 19/08/2008 13:02

Daisy - am very at your relations doing that - especially after a c-section!! That is just awful! We set a rule very early on that visitors were fine but had to be gone by 5pm so we could have the evening (which always seem the hardest times with a newborn) to ourselves. Fortunately everyone was happy with that.

Obs - wished I lived nearer London and then I could come and visit too! I know what you mean about being bored in hospital - with DS, I was in hospital for 3 days but DH was with me from about 10am till chucking out time (8pmish) every day so it was ok. But, this time round, obviously he is not going to be able to do that and look after DS so I am guessing it will be just me and baby for most of the time. I guess stocking up on books is a good idea.

Choc - not a big fan of TV monitors tbh. No particular reason, just seems a step too far for me.

Well have sorted out my double buggy dilemma - yeah!! A colleague is moving house and having a clearout and she had a P&T buggy with a Doubles kit, carrycot and raincover that she wanted to get rid of - so I have got the lot for £150 It is not in perfect condition but is fine for the trip to nursery and back!

sparkletoes · 19/08/2008 13:31

Hello everyone

Obs - am so annoyed at the cotbed situ for you, how awful of them not to give it back. Don't understand some people!

Ceebs - that is great news about the P&Ts!! It falls under my category of expensive but easy to push so a 2nd hand one is just perfect! Well done!!

I am going to see MW in 5 mins and I have some concerns of my own... God hope I don't cry!!

ceebee74 · 19/08/2008 13:40

Sparks - I hope everything is ok and the MW can put your mind at ease about whatever it is.

Obs - forgot to say that I also would have thought that they should be giving your cot back. My friend lent me quite a bit of baby stuff and that was one of the first things I thought about when she announced she was pg with her second and made sure that I gave her everything back straight away.

AutumnLady · 19/08/2008 13:41

Hi all

Just a very quick post as I'm heading to MW appt now but wanted to share my news.

I saw the obstetrician this morning and he has booked me in for a CS on 3rd November!! I was having a nightmare as the other consultant I saw last time was not convinced I needed one (all due to back surgery) and was a little mean to me, but the one I saw today is the Professor and after chatting through pros and cons for 30 mins he agreed it would be better for me and bump to have one. Am so relieved and now a little scared as there's not many weeks between now and 3rd Nov!

I know a lot of people have strong opinions about elec cs, as that thread Obs was on turned nasty but hope you can be a little for me as this is what I wanted.

Will reply more to everyone later and catch up properly after MW.

xx

MonkeyMargot · 19/08/2008 13:56

Autumnlady - I'm pleased for you if that's what you were hoping for. Is that earlier than your original EDD? How exciting!
Obs - I'd be blunt and ask for my cot back. Outrageous.
Am looking forward to London meet-up on 3rd October - whoopee!!!!!!
P.S. Had a very vivid dream last night that I'd given birth (to a girl). It was so odd, I woke up to find my DH and the new baby next to me, but had NO recollection of childbirth itself. Brilliant!!!! If only that could happen! But then I tried to breastfeed and nothing was coming out, no matter how hard the LO tried. Anyone else had birth dreams?

smilesattheweekend · 19/08/2008 13:58

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments on the in-laws debate. I am quite happy not to have visitors for a while, even if I was in hospital I would opt for the patient hotel and therefore not be on a ward and envious of other people, really just want to get home asap but only when ready. It sounds harsh but I prefer my own company to people I don't really like

I have been to physio this morning and in addition to SPD have sciatica, the physio has given me some great exercises and it looks like we can keep everything under control. I was so mad at my GP for saying physio wouldn't do anything and intend to change GP. I need to get a particular type of maternity belt now (the tubigrip is too small!), the physio gave me a catalogue and told me which one to look for so will see how I get on with that.

I have been suffering quite a bit at night with restless legs syndrome, has anyone got any words of wisdom on this one! Going to a concert at end of September (seated) and can't bear the thought of having restless legs all the way through.

Autumnlady, to be honest I don't really care how the baby falls out, as long as it does. DH is self employed now and has commitments in November, I was half wondering whether a section would be better then I would be able to have a date etc and it would be easier all round - just a big op (not to be taken lightly) but nevertheless if it is best for you - go for it!!

ChocOrange05 · 19/08/2008 14:08

Autumn I am very jealous of you knowing when bump will be born! As for elective CS I'm not a fan of them for any old reason but if its for medical reasons then people should save their opinions for themselves as your obstetrician is best placed to make that decision! Glad you are pleased about it - happiness and safety of mum and bump is most important!

Sparks good luck at the MW - hope you have nothing to worry about and don't worry if you cry - we're allowed!

Ceebee pleased to hear you got the buggy dilemma sorted.

Tablefor3 my DH also talks to bump - once poor bump even got a lecture on the battle of hastings! I think DH was running out of one way conversation topics!

I am def up for 3 October

P.S. Have just posted my first bump photo on profile page. Had to take it myself though so not as professional as some of yours!

Oblomov · 19/08/2008 14:19

oh that is good news smiles, stleast something. Horrible GP !!
WOW Autumnlady, a date. Gosh. 3 Nov. That doesn't sound too far away, now does it.
I am only 27 weeks now, so it seems quite a way off for me.

ChocOrange05 · 19/08/2008 14:31

Nice bump photo Monkey - its very neat!

OP posts:
ChocOrange05 · 19/08/2008 14:36

How interesting (for me that is!) - I kept hearing mention of Restless Leg Syndrome and wasn't sure what it was so as with anything I don't know, I googled it (including some very disturbing pre and post pregnancy nipple articles! ). Anyhoo, since as long as I can remember I sometimes get really apainful leg, like they have turned into a lump of wood and I could never figure out what it was and it now sounds like it might be RLS - its not very often nor too painful, just very uncomfortable, so I don't think I need to do anything about it but it was just interesting to be able to identify it. MN rules again!

MonkeyMargot · 19/08/2008 14:37

Thanks ChocOrange! (It doesn't feel neat!)

Heartmum2Jamie · 19/08/2008 14:44

Ok ladies! I am 30 weeks tomorrow and with the possibility of baby arriving in 7 weeks, I want to start getting organised. I plan on cooking up some stuff to freeze so I don't have to worry about cooking while getting to grips with 3 kids!

Things I have thought of: Spaghetti bolognaise, lasagne, cottage pie, taco filling, casserole.

Does anyone have some good recipies that freeze well?

Not actually sure why I am bothering as ds2 doesn't eat the same stuff we do due to alergies/pickiness, so I will still have to cook.
