hee hee rubysmum. i am usually better at moving fast in the online community than anywhere else (it doesn't take any physical effort) - but even that's lacking now!

i'll post a photo of my belly soon so you can all feel a bit better about your hugenesses.

MerryMarigold · 17/08/2008 18:16

coolkat, now I am craving roast beef! know exactly what you mean about PMA with the birth, have been worrying about it for a lot of the pregnancy!

dozy, ok i let you stay in the disorganised mums club if you REALLY haven't washed clothes for 3 weeks. I took 3 loads to my mum's last weekend cos she has a tumble dryer!

Dozymare · 17/08/2008 19:11

Oh God, I am glad someone has mentioned worrying about the birth - I have had 2 CS and for some reason am really really panicy about having a 3rd.......I had such an awful experience with DS1 as had 3 day labour then disterssed baby that the CS passed by in an haze of drugs and was very stressful as obviously was an emergency. 2nd CS was planned becasue of what had happened the first time around, and was BEAUTIFUL experience......I am hoping for the same again but have a feeling of dread....I keep thinking to myself, that lots of women have had 3 and even 4 but I am so scared.

Then I think about having a VBA2C and that feels me with dread as think that my scar might split....so actually, I am in a panic about the whole thing.....hiowever, makes me feel ever so slightly better it is not just me!!!

Gosh, that was a ME ME ME post

My DS2 is 25 months.........

mum2becks · 17/08/2008 19:29

question for all those expecting their 2nd, 3rd or more child - I am using the same m oses basket and cot that I have used for dd, do I need to replace the matresses?

I wasn't going to in the moses basket as it was only used for 6 months but the more I think about it I worry about SIDS and just wondered what everyone else is doing?

MonkeyMargot · 17/08/2008 19:48

Hello rubysmum! Wow - 4 girls - I'll bet your DH feels ganged up against at times (or at least he WILL do when they're a little older!) I know my dad did......ha ha.
I'm a first-timer, due 5th November and don't know the flavour (but think it's a girl).
Am in agreement over fears surrounding the birth bit - I hadn't given it a great deal of thought as d-day seemed like such a long way away. But it's now only 11.3 weeks, and I do feel really quite scared about the birth. Haven't done any ante-natal yet as am doing a weekend course end of September. aghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

sparkletoes · 17/08/2008 20:54

Mum2becks, I heard the advice had changed re: mattresses and if it is for siblings then no need to get new one. I am not getting a new one. If you follow the advice about foot to foot and temperature etc I am sure it is ok to reuse a mattress.

Has anyone else heard the advice about not re-using bottles?? Am planning to BF again but did use bottles too. Sorry if this has already been discussed before...

I also don't like to think too much about the birth. Was terrified last time around kept waking in night in cold sweat thinking 'but HOW sore is it'. The hypno-birthing CD helped calm me down a bit but am still opting for head in sand at moment with this one!

ceebee74 · 17/08/2008 21:24

Evening all

Suiledonn - I am also far too lazy to get out of bed when I wake up in the middle of the night - last night, I just put the tv on in the bedroom (much to DH's annoyance ) and watched the marathon propped up on my pillows whilst chewing gaviscon tablets! I would never dream of actually getting up and doing stuff

Daisy - hope you feel better soon, I can't imagine how uncomfortable you are feeling.

Coolkat - yes I am panicking about the birth aswell - if I go for an elcs, then I think I will feel ok about it and even look forward to it but if I go for a VBAC, I am terrified - mainly due to fear of the unknown I guess.

Sparkles - not sure about the bottles but we are just going to start from scratch I think and buy new bottles and teats. DS still has a bottle of milk every morning plus he was bottle-fed so his bottles have had some wear out of them these last 2 years. If they hadn't been used that much, am sure it is perfectly ok to use them again as they get sterilised.

Been to my parents for the day today which was nice to be fed and looked after DS was being his usual charming, cheeky self although we had an almighty tantrum before we left home this morning as he did not like the outfit I had chosen! Cue very dramatic throwing himself on the floor, crying and he ended up biting his lip and making it bleed - how long do the 'terrible twos' last????

vbab78 · 17/08/2008 21:41

hi ladies. not been on for a few days and find it really hard to keep up with you. Would like to respond to all your posts but it would end up an essay that you wouldnt want to read!

I hope you are well as can be expected with our expanding bumps and daily stresses. Sorry and wishes for good health to those of you feeling aches and pains.

I'm feeling tired but energized at the idea of finishing work in less than 2 weeks with only 6 days of work left! On a bad note though DS been poorly all week and last few days had very bad nappies and cold like symptoms with teething and eczema . Will go down great with work if I end up booking time off for my last few days because DS poorly or nursery say he cant go. Also DS seems to have passed his cold onto me and DH so both feeling it.

Finally weighed myself ... was at 1st midwife appt 68kg but I think 64kg from beginning, now 74kg at 29wks (tomorrow). So I think I have put on 10kg (1st 8lb). More than I thought to be honest because I think I am all bump . At this stage with DS I had put on 8kg so 2kg more . Slightly worrying as not been over indulging, probably not eating enough and more active than last time. DS was 9lb 4oz at birth so does it mean this baby will be BIGGER!

LolaBella · 17/08/2008 21:45

Hi guys, welcome to Rubysmum
I'm struggling already and another 10 weeks to go
Bump feels very heavy and can't walk far as i suffer constantly from bh. Also, a little question - every now and again i get this really sharp pain in the fanjo (sorry TMI)like i'v been hit with a bat or something equally unpleasant. Makes me yelp in pain, any ideas what it is or anybody else had this?
On the up side, off to Tenerife for a family birthday on Thurs for 9 days. Not sure i will be able to get an all over even tan this year though

Ceebee my little nephew has just approached the terrible two's also - i don't know how my sister copes.

I'm a first time mum so can't help with all the questions on bottles/mattresses etc but am equally curious as to answers just in case i decide to do this again one day

suiledonn · 17/08/2008 21:57

lolabella Not sure what that pain could be. Is it a muscular type of pain? I know when I turn over too quickly in bed I get a shooting pain but I know it is muscular and just have to keep reminding myself 'knees together

ceebee My sympathies on the terrible twos behaviour. My dd is 27 months and everything is a battle with her these days. Most of the time she looks like a wild child at home because I don't have the energy to get her to wash her face and brush her hair which she hates. She is also really choosy about what clothes she wears. If I pot something on her that she doesn't like she just takes it off again so it is easier not to argue.

I was really calm about the birth last time but have to say I am feeling nervous this time roung, mainly due to the fact that hospital wants to induce me early and two of my friends have had horrible induction experiences recently.

MerryMarigold · 17/08/2008 22:05

ceebee, gotta laugh at ds not approving of outfit . It's just a struggle to get mine dressed at all, he'd rather be naked - summer, winter etc. Not sure when it all ends. Ds is 2 and 8 months and can be quite sneakily mean...I was telling him off for something the other day and he whispered to me, "I'm going to kick the babies!" . They just get better and better at pushing buttons.

I've finally put some bump pics on my profile! Go check and then come and offer to clean my house (that's for you drswife, I know you're bored).

lolabella, think I've had that pain once or twice, probably baby kicking, but if it's persistent I would call midwife and see what she thinks.

I never even considered changing my mattresses or bottles - bad mum alert! Sometimes I don't know how ds has got to nearly 3!

mum2becks · 17/08/2008 22:12

thanks sparkletoes I was thinking it would be okay but the more I thought about it the more I confused myself!! Cant help regarding bottles I'm afraid as I only breastfed for 6 weeks then dd had bottles so I will definately be getting new ones as they were well used!

ceebee I know exactly how you feel about terrible twos, dd is 26 mths and is so head strong sometimes it drives me mad!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear some of you are already worrying about the birth, I cant say I'm too worried at the minute as I dont think it can be any worse than last time (back to back labour very long and painful) and determined that this time is going to be better (PMA must be working!!)

suiledonn · 17/08/2008 22:17

Merrymarigold Just had a look at your pics. That is quite an impressive bump you having going there. Your ds is a cutie.

LolaBella · 17/08/2008 22:27

Wow Merry that really is impressive, i don't think anyone will complain about their bump size again Has the mw said how far she expects you to carry to?

sparkletoes · 17/08/2008 22:30

Ceebee it was something to do with regular bottles being made of a chemical that is now banned in US/Canada. They feared it may leach out into milk...

The Doc on BBC Breakfast felt it was all a bit OTT but then said she would have to recommend people follow the advice (from memory: don't reuse bottles and don't pour boiling water straight into bottle...). Am therefore not sure. Have plenty friends who have used same bottles and ones passed on from family. Probably just another scare story just wondered if anyone else had heard about it...

We have had major tantrums too from DS - partly causing change of mind over naps! It is always soo much worse in public where I find usual distractions are useless as everything is new...

Vbab think I will have put on about the same by 29 weeks (am 27 now), it doesn't sound excessive or something to worry about to me...

Lolabella - what is the sharp pain like? Is it like something is 'pinging' you from inside? Oh lord that also sounds like TMI but I have been getting that and got it last time too. No idea what it is!

Oh yeah Suiledonn knees together forgot that!! Why are they planning early induction again?

Merry - your pics are gorgeous as is your DS, he reminds me of my friends little boy who is same age. So cute! Also reminds me that I haven't done my pics either god I am so crap!

Sorry sorry sorry long post

suiledonn · 17/08/2008 22:36

Sparkletoes I didn't have an induction last time round. Went into labour a few days before due date and had dd very quickly. Apparently very unusual first time round so the consultant is worried I will have this baby even quicker and we are a long way from the hospital. He wants to review me for induction at 38 weeks.

sparkletoes · 17/08/2008 22:38

Found a recent site featuring a study on the bottle chemical which says any exposure to chemicals is negligible. As you were...

BPA in Bottles

sparkletoes · 17/08/2008 22:42

Oh sorry Suledonn I meant remind me again not why are they doing it again! Should really get someone to preview my posts

I see, can also understand why you are concerned as induction scared me too. Hope it all works out for you x

LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 22:46

lolabella, it might be the onset of SPD. Do you get any pain when getting in and out of the car or going upstairs? mention it to your MW for a physio referral.

sparkletoes, the thinking behind getting new bottle is because the bottles get tiny scratches on the inside which can harbour bacteria. Not an issue with an older DC, but might cause an infection risk in a newborn.

The BPA thing is a bit of hysteria as I understand it and there are more chemicals in the air we breathe. But, for anyone concerned there are lots of BPA free bottles out there. The MAM ultivent ones I've used with DD are BPA free.

Wow MM.....that's a big'un. Are you sure you're not having twins

suiledonn · 17/08/2008 22:47

Sorry about the misunderstanding there Sparkletoes. I am just so confused about the whole situation. I had a thread going about it a while back and got some good advice. I just worry if I chose the induction route it could mean a painful, difficult labour compared to the easy time I had with dd and I also worry about the effects on the baby. On the other hand I don't know what I would do if I went into labour at home alone with dd. It's driving me insane thinking about it.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 22:58

suiledon, i remember your thread a while back and am sorry you are still in bits about it. Have you considered hiring a doula so that you will have someone with you?

It's basically because of DH working away and not being able to get to me for sometimes up to four hours that swung me towards an elCS last time. I would rather have tried a vaginal birth though, so this time we have got a doula on board who will be with me until DH can get here.

sparkletoes · 17/08/2008 23:01

Lacks yeah sounds like hysteria to me too! Esp now I have read recent update on it. Ta!

No worries Suiledonn it was completely my lack of thought before I posted! (tend to type same way that I speak which is no good!).

I bet you are confused, you would think that fast labour would only be a good thing... How far away is hospital? Is home birth not an option?

sparkletoes · 17/08/2008 23:02

A doula is another great idea. I'd love one of those!

sparkletoes · 17/08/2008 23:05

Sorry I really need to go to bed now, catch up again soon xx

Oblomov · 18/08/2008 08:46

Hi everyone.
Love the title.
I am a big fan of big nicks anyway. And as Barb says, can't wait to get in mine.

Ds and I went down to Devon, to stay with my best friend and her son. We had the best time.
Apart from the fact that ds kicked me. Yes kicked me. In the back of the heel. He was walking behind me. I was horrified. As was my bf, and dh when I told him. And then he didn't want to go to bed. And he had his first and only tantrum. But it wasn't minor. It was MAJOR. Dh and I need to decide what to do with him.

Sorry to hear of MM's Gestational D. MM, if I can help at all, please let me know. Misdee is your woman, aswell.
Welcome Rubysmum.
