I like the idea of those hand warmer things, I have loads lyingn around here too. Maybe I will start taking one to bed at night to use when I wake in the wee small hours with backache. Mind you, I am also very hot, so it might help the backache but won't help me to cool down any, lol!

Lacka, where is the BEST place to get Bumgenious V3 from?? I have 1 and would really love a couple more to try but they are so expencsive (even second hand, in that case, may as well by brand new)

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 10:19

I found this classified I don't think they have been sold yet, but not sure how that forum works.

Will be joining though

BG are still very new and seem very popular so resale value will always be high. The RRP of £14 seems to be pretty universal. Can't fine any sort of discount unless it's for bulk purchases. Nappyzone does reductions if you buy 5 or more, not sure if she does a general MN discount though.

ruthosaurus · 29/08/2008 11:30

Morning ladies!

Thanks for list, DAISY - it looks v sensible. Now all I need is a bag to stuff it all in... M&S are doing a really nice weekend bag with money off in a load of ace colours but I think it's a bit small for all that! I?m going to do what I always do when I feel disorganised ? make a spreadsheet .

Hey, cricri. With you on the bending over - why is the floor so far away? DH has promised to cut my toenails as I am starting to make that 'dog' noise when I walk on lino in bare feet and he doesn't want me scuffing the new bathroom floor .

All smiley today as last night DH went through all the clothes with me and packed them away as we're getting the crappy old 1930s bedroom furniture taken away on Saturday morning. And tonight the work continues. I did laugh when he commented that it was really nice to get started on the decluttering as it had been bugging him for ages... He?s okay, really, I suppose, just a bit vague about stuff on occasion and the more I do, the less he does. I have a horrible suspicion that I?ve been letting him get away with this for the last few years. Oh well, reality bites on the labour ward, eh? That?s when he can go all Clint Eastwood and Step Up And Be A Man [giggle].

Right - nappies: anyone else going for eco biodegradables? I quite want to do washables but DH not v keen and I feel like I already do more than my fair share around the house as it is. Feel v selfish but also concerned about fate of crap cheapoid washing machine - it just has to last another year. Ecodegradables seemed like a reasonable wimp-out. I'm sure they must biodegrade with poo in them - poo degrades, no? Otherwise we?d be up to our ears in it. Mind you, I?m sure it?ll feel that way anyway after Baby Saurus arrives.

Chocolategal - yay for baby?s kidneys! Fingers crossed, eh? Know what you mean about bump size, cos I think mine?s mostly cake.

Got to go - far too hot and need a wee... Oh, the glamour.

MonkeyMargot · 29/08/2008 11:43

Pinkali37 Please could you send me the link to your website for baby blankets? I've lost it! Thanks!

Also - quick question to all (and apologies if this was covered aeons ago) - I'm still confused as to whether to buy sheets and blankets OR Grobags/sleeping bags.

One of my friends advised to move to Grobags when they're a little older, another said she used them from Day One. I've been given one Grobag, so now need to decide what else I should buy....
Any help really appreciated!

Heartmum2Jamie · 29/08/2008 12:10

Margot I guess it depends where baby will be sleeping from the outset. I will be using sheets/blankets at first as baby will be in the moses basket and I found that even the smallest size growbag/sleepingbag to be bigger than the moses basket mattress. I then move onto sleep bags/growbags when baby is old enough to shuffle around a little and get out of the feet to foot position in the cot, or if he likes to kick blankets off, lol. I honestly don't think it hurts to have both, especially over the winter when depending on how warm your home is, you may want to put a blanket over the baby in it's growbag on really cold nights

vbab78 · 29/08/2008 12:13

lacks - Just re read my last post about the bumgenius nappies and realised that when I asked you what BG was I obviously needed to go to BED as it was obvious .

Thanks for the offer of the tester but should be ok thanks. Going to price the bumgenius stuff I need up and if we decide to go for it maybe "suggest" to people that their gift be a contribution to the nappy fund. Would probably have baby for the first couple of days in disposables mainly because I have already bought them. Also because it will give me and DH time to get used to a baby again and me see how I am after delivery. I can then buy PINK and YELLOW one's if I get the girl flavour.

lacks - QUESTION Am I correct in thinking that in the BG nappies I use the insert provided to absorb wee and I add in the paper or fleece liners you suggested on top of it for the poo. To minimise mess.

Then if out and about with baby depending on how bad the nappy is I would just change the paper/fleece liner AND maybe the BG insert but the nappy may be ok?

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 13:03

no,vbab with pockets the whole thing needs changing every time. I suggested some additional inserts as the outer bit dries quicker then the inner (although I usually finish the inserts off in the drier). Two parters, the wrap can be reused, but I usually alternate wraps to let the first one air a bit before using again......she says trying not to confuse things furthr

you can get birth to potty deals on bumgenius....mothercare

nappyzone

or, even better at bebeco as includes nappy bucket and laundry mesh for £185. That is a really good deal actually

please tell me if I'm becoming a nappy bore

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 13:09

rothosaurus, we had a big discussion about eco dispos oooooh, a million threads ago!

As far as I'm aware (DH has done a bit if research as part of his job) eco disposables take the same time to break down, when disposed of in landfill sites, as non ecos due to the anaerobic envioronment. If they are disposed of properly (in an aerobic environment) then it happens much quicker. Councils in the UK aren't set up to dispose of them proeprly so unfortunately they go in landfill with the rest of the household waste and sit there for the same length of time.

The environmental benefit, I would say, is in the manufacturing processes (especially the case with Moltex) and the fact that they have more natural materials (cellulose as the waterproof lining rather than plastic) and less chemicals in them than the leading brands.

ceebee74 · 29/08/2008 13:21

Monkey - DS used grobags pretty much from birth but he was a complete 'kicker' and never kept blankets on so we switched to grobags very quickly and have never looked back - he is now 2 and I am just thinking he should be using a duvet maybe but he does love his grobags. I think the advice is to only use them once the baby is 8lb anyway. But we had bought loads of blankets and sheets before he was born which we never used and I ended up taking back to the shop. With this baby, I know we will go with grobags from day one (unless baby is very small) so I am not bothering with other bedding apart from bottom sheets.

If you do decide to go with grobags from the start, you only really need bottom sheets and maybe one cellular blanket for the really cold nights/naps (DS doesn't use his grobag for naps - I have to wait until he falls asleep and then creep into his room and put a blanket over him!)

misdee · 29/08/2008 13:26

ladies expectying girls and not yet got their car seats, and who dont mind things pink. kiddicare.com have the maxi cosi cabrio fix car seat in happy flowers half price for £59.99

vbab78 · 29/08/2008 13:39

lacks - Sorry brain on shut down again. I understand why you suggested additonal inserts but what are the fleece/paper liners for?

Heartmum2Jamie · 29/08/2008 13:43

I think the paper liners / fleece are for the poo, so you don't get so much on the inserts. From what I hear, newborn (BF) poop kind of slides off fleece and when it is more solid, paper liners are good for disposing of the mess.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 13:45

fleece/paper goes between nappy and bum to catch poo and keep nappy more pristine for longer

I used fleece for nb poo, although it's not really necessary on a pocket as it washes/bleaches out of the existing fleece quite well. Would definately recommend fleece on a terry nappy though as a stay dry liner.

Paper better for older babies with solid poo as the whole thing can be flushed away. I have never successfully managed the art of getting big baby poo off fleece without it pinging everywhere.

vbab78 · 29/08/2008 14:01

lacks - thank you for your patience. I might have finally understood .

vbab78 · 29/08/2008 16:24

just been presented at work in front of everyone a card signed by everyone and £70 of mothercare vouchers and a DVD called "the plan" to help me get back in shape! WOW.

Just really embarassed as well because one of the directors, whom I have worked with for years, had to make a speech.

ceebee74 · 29/08/2008 16:40

Vbab - that is lovely! Don't be embarrassed by it - it just shows how much they think of you. What are you going to spend it on - ooh £70 in Mothercare, I would have a ball - enjoy it!

Heartmum2Jamie · 29/08/2008 16:47

Awwww Vbab, that's lovely!! Think I may have looked a bit like this at the DVD though, LOL!!

Well, for anyone who has little kiddies that like the Backyardigans, today I have been mostly (sung to music of questing, questing, questing) "nesting, nesting, nesting.... never resting, nesting, nesting, nesting, nesting till I POP"

This week alone, I have washed the babys clothes & nappies, sorted my wardrobe so I could fit some storage for the babys clothes & things, sorted out my bedroom so that I knew exactly where the moses basket, nursing chair ect would go. Then I hoovered all upstairs, the hallways, stairs and landing. Hoovered the porch, the gagrage (dh uses it as an office/studio, so it has carpet!). I also sorted out the food cupboards and got rid of anything out of date, which was a fair bit . I have emptied and refilled the dishwasher, put it on, done a load of washing, removed everything from the kitchen drawers so I could wash & clean the insides of them and I am thinking that the oven and fridge will need doing over the weekend. Sound like nesting???

LadyBuzz · 29/08/2008 16:48

Vbab how lovely enjoy the shopping!
I had a bit of a scare today and almost phoned DH to tell him he had to come home and take me to the hospital, I've been really breathless for a couple of weeks now - not just when i've been doing things either sometimes i'm just lounging around but I got a bout of really bad palpitations this after noon and could hardly catch my breath, I've had them before but only ever a couple at a time I feel fine now but it was very scary i'm asthmatic but I don't think it is anything to do with that it was the palpitations that worried me the most - has anyone else had anything like this?

LadyBuzz · 29/08/2008 16:51

Just seen your post heartmum - wow you have had a busy day definately nesting I would say

MonkeyMargot · 29/08/2008 16:55

HeartMUm and Ceebee - Thanks for your input on the blankets/grobag question. Will ponder some more til I really have to start buying some stuff!
Vbab - that's so lovely of your employers!

mum2becks · 29/08/2008 17:05

vbab sounds like you will be missed at work! enjoy spending your vouchers!!

heartmum definately sounds like nesting, made me feel tired just reading everything you have done!!!!!! I keep thinking I should start doing things like that but just dont seem to have the energy, hope my nesting instinct kicks in soon as loads to do and know I'm running out of time

ladybuzz sounds quite worrying for you, hope you are feeling better now? perhaps you should mention it to your mw or doctor??

mum2becks · 29/08/2008 17:09

ooops sorry, dd decided to post my message too trying to be helpful pressing all the buttons!!

MerryMarigold · 29/08/2008 17:18

misdee, good to have you with us between packing!! Hope you can steam through when kids are back at school. And hope Peter's MOT comes back clean.

nappychat is great as was thinking of asking this when I was ready to 'go there' (not quite ready yet!). With the twins, I will feel too guilty and it will be too expensive to be using disposables. I did use eco disposables with ds for the first year (Moltex). One thing I liked is they don't smell at all when they get wee in them, as the gel nappies seem to react with wee and get smelly! They are cheap in bulk from spirit of nature. UNfortunately they are not stretchy so when they start jumping about they're not very good. Lacks, thanks for all advice and links, have saved them to my favourites so that when my head is there I can look round them again. Got my MATB1 today so I can apply for my vouchers.

heartmum, don't make me feel so baaaad! What you've done is amazing. I went to MW today and then hospital and I am totally exhausted (despite a 2 hour sleep with ds in the pm)! I have a huge list of 'things to do' broken down by month. I haven't done July's yet, let alone August. It just makes me scared to look at it so I am in denial! My motto is "We will cope whatever."

Ladybuzz - that does sound scary. I've had that on occasion (not when pregnant) and it is really distressing. Did you get it at all last time? I would go doc on Monday, at least dh is around at the weekend in case it happens again (hopefully not).

Heartmum2Jamie · 29/08/2008 17:26

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am shattered now! I probably won't move again for the next 8 weeks, lol! I think the urge has kicked in now (31 weeks) before I get so large I won't want to, or physically won't be able to do it. At least this way, the deep cleaning is almost done and I can just "tickle" here and there each week and hopefully it won't look too bad for the midwives/HV's and normal visitors when the time comes. Actually, who am I kidding, I have 2 sons and a dh who is like another kid to clean up after, lol!

I wouldn't worry MM, you will either feel like nesting or you won't, but I think you have enough on your plate and should put your feet up, lol!
