Oooops cross post on the big mama wesbite!

It was a baby buddha, but I don't think you can get them over here. iirc, sputnik and a few others on my AN thread got together, had them shipped to one of them and then she sent them out to the others to get a better deal on the shipping costs.

You might get them on the US ebay though? or there might be a UK stockist by now.

vbab78 · 28/08/2008 22:22

fairy - do you think the cost of reusables isn't worth while for use for just 1 child?

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 22:27

aaaaw cute [smile. Should I get one for DD?

twinklingfairy · 28/08/2008 22:32

Oh no vbab it is defo worth it even if only for one child, IMO.
You can prob sell them on after and make most of your money back or buy second hand in first place. They are just as good, if not better cos brand new ones are not as absorbant in the first wee while anyway. All nappies need to be washed a few times before they are at their optimum.
Daisy said £1200 for one child in disposables, so even if you do buy fitted, and pay a bit more that way, you still save.
Not to mention the lack of waste, you can be proud to have done your bit.
I read it takes 20, or was it 200, years Either way a h$ll of a long time for a disposable to actually biodegrade and that is only if they are dealt with properly.
Did you also know that, in order for them to biodegrade, you are meant to remove the poo? So you ought to be dealing with it anyway, why not just pop the nappy in a bucket and wash it later?

Anyone, feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any point. I prob ought to go back and say that I 'heard' these facts rather than state them, but can't be bothered to go correcting it all now.
So, these are not 'facts', just what I heard.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 22:33

vbab, i think it is worth it, even for one child, but we were motivated by the landfill/environmental issues rather than the cost.

misdee · 28/08/2008 22:34

its def worth it even for one child.

dd4 will be my 3rd in cloth nappies. have begged and borrowed nappies and wraps from family members anf friends.

cant wait to see them on dd4.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 22:36

and should add that the cost is still a big thing in it though; although maybe not if you end up a nappy obsessed freak like me

saying that though, I have sold loads on for between half and two thirds what I originally paid for them

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 22:36

www.usednappies.co.uk lots of second hand bargains to be found.

misdee · 28/08/2008 22:37

just think, £5 a week which you are effectivly throwing in the bin...

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 22:37

hey misdee how is the packing going? and how is DH after his scare?

misdee · 28/08/2008 22:40

dh is hospital atm having his yearly MOT. packign is slow going. i have the new peoples OT coming in tomorrow to see if they need any adaptions done before the move.

will be easier next week once older two are back at school. then can pack chuck a lot of their stuff away with no interruptions.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 22:48

I hope he passes misdee . Does he get a certificate and everything?

and lol at packing your DD's stuff. I know just how that feels.

I think I have restless legs . Mainly in my toes which feel like they want to curl up involuntarily all the time, more so when I'm sitting pootering on the sofa, and the heat...they feel like they are about to burt out of my skin.

misdee · 28/08/2008 22:50

lol he should do shouldnt he, say if he is roadworthy or not. hopefully get him backt tomorrow with a clean bill of health. his kidney function has improved which is a sigh of relief, didnt fancyadding kidney transplant to our list just yet lol.

vbab78 · 28/08/2008 22:54

misdee - hope things go ok with DH.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 22:57

did you watch the Robert Winston thing tonight about heart disease and stem cell research. It was quite fascinating.

misdee · 28/08/2008 22:59

no i didnt. we looked at stem cell research for peter, but by then he was in end stage heart failure and needed the artificial heart.

thansk VBAB for your lovely wishes. i'm sure he will be fine, and is probably enjoying a night away from my snoring and whinging about my creaky hips lol.

vbab78 · 28/08/2008 23:01

lacks - love the look of the bumgenius v3. love also the fact that no buying of diff sizes needed and just like a disposable which would keep dh and grandparents happy.

if u were to advise me what i need to buy what would the list & qtys be ... .

just to clarify ... no need for a plastic outside wrap?

Heartmum2Jamie · 28/08/2008 23:03

Misdee, I hope Peter passes his MOT with flying colours and good luck with the packing.

Daisy, I regualrly look on usednappies and have had some good stuff from there. I am just waiting on another 15 bimbles (second hand again) and some wraps and I think my stash my just have to be complete until we decide what we like, what firs best and works the best for all of us. I absolutely can not wait to see his butt in cloth!

Also, sorry to hear about the restless legs, I suffer too but seemed to suffer worse with the other 2. I think alot has to do with iron levels too.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 23:19

sorry, me no understandy txt spk

quantities...I think 15 would be enough with something like the BG as the outers dry very quickly. The V3 come with two inserts (main and a booster, but the booster is used as the insert on the smallest setting), but I'd buy a few more separately as they do dry more slowly than the covers. no need to stick with BG ones though, you can always pick some up second hand or else somewhere like www.boocoo.blogspot.com. Maybe get some fleece liners for newborn poo (usually come in packs of 10) and then switch to paper when poo is more solid. If FFing then you could use paper liners from the off I think.

You'd also want a nappy bucket with a lid (non airtight...we made that mistake and had mouldy nappies) for dry pailing them and then a wet bag for dealing with dirty/wet nappies when out and about; although I usually just use normal nappy sacks for that.

erm, not sure what else really. I think that would get you going. I would buy a couple to trial once the meconium stage has passed before committing yourself, just incase you don't like them.

vbab78 · 28/08/2008 23:40

lacks - BG as outers? No understand english ... also i thought the bumgenius v3 were all you needed?

thanks for all this. just like me to keep picking at people's brains. Because I didn't get the message that they were being handed out so I got stuck with my hamster and wheel.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/08/2008 23:53

sorry, it comprises a separate outer waterproof PUL cover with a suedecloth (like fleece) lining and then the absorbent inserts. The outer bit has a pocket between the PUL and the lining where you stuff the insert. You take them apart for washing and drying.

Do you want me to lend you one of my V2 ones so you can get an idea of what they are like? The V2 only has one insert but essentially it's the same.

chocolategal · 29/08/2008 08:25

morning everyone

the sun is shining here, which is typical as i go back to work today! but thinking PMA only 4 weeks today until i come off :O

misdee hope you get your DH home today safe and sound ( and refreshed after a good nights sleep )

mum2becks · 29/08/2008 08:27

Morning hope everyone is feeling well today? I feel ok but feel tried all the time even when just got up!!

All this talk of the cloth nappies is making me consider them more, I must admit with dd I didnt know much about them and stuck with disposables probably out of laziness, but the more I hear about the cloth ones I am temped to try them this time!! Will read up on them more I think!!

misdee hope your DH comes home fit and well today!! Know how you feel about the packing, we moved house when I was 19 weeks and it was very tiring all the clearing out, packing and organising but definately worth it (although we still have some boxes not unpacked yet but its mainly stuff that isnt needed at min so would rather leave in boxes for now rather than have clutter around!!!!)

LadyBuzz · 29/08/2008 08:50

Morning all,
Misdee hope your DH is well.
Glad to hear good news Chocolategal and Cricri hope everything is OK with you too.
Merry Hope your problems inmprove soon.
Daisy I have really hot feet too, flip flops were helping bt since my ankle is still playing up I have had to revert back to trainers so I can wear my awful orthopaedic insoles and my feet are on fire after 2 mins. I have one of the water spray thingys by the bed to spray at night and qite often make DH get me a bowl of cold water - After DS is in bed though or he likes to play in it!
Hospital bag list is great I love the ice idea and taking a seperate bag for going home.
In one of my books it suggested taking a hot water bottle and massage kit

LackaDAISYcal · 29/08/2008 09:24

hot water bottle might not be a bad idea actually, if you could get some hot water for it

maybe some of those instant warmer pads you can get in camping/climbing shops though, or some Deep Heat back relief pads which warm up and do something similar.

I'd say just get the drugs though

I need to stay off MN today......the house is a tip and DH back this afternoon. He is taking DS away fishing this weekend, so hopefully, if DD isn't too much of a handful, I can make real inroads into this place so we can get the decorating started.
