bought nappies (had voucher to get the free huggies baby basket full of goodies!), breast pads, vests, sleepsuits, wipes and a nightie for my hosp bag!
oh and a baby bath!

that should keep me going for a wee while, just trying to buy something with each shop

Dozymare · 27/08/2008 22:03

wow - am impressed so far the only things I have bought are clothes for tiger lemonade! NEED TO STArt thinking about other bits and bobs now such as a cot and wardrobe! we want white - anyone seen any nice ones????

MonkeyMargot · 27/08/2008 22:19

Dozy I am going to get a white chest of drawers too. John Lewis has nice stuff - not cheap though. Let me know if you see anything.
Re. Toe Hair - now you know why my MN name is Monkey!!

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2008 23:02

is it hanaflower who is sling guru?

or anyone really. I've been offered one of these at a knock down price by one of my June 07 buddies and wondered if anyone had had any experience?

sorry about the infection/pain dozy. I hope it's nothing.....but lots of fluids and cranberry juice in the meantime.

I thankfully never have to worry about my bikini line as I am a weird, not very hairy kind of thing (pits once a week for swimming, legs twice a summer); it just gets a bit long in pregnancy and needs a trim as the relaxin staightens out the kinks....what a friend of mine refers to as "heavy metal pubes"

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2008 23:08

I hadn't even thought about hospital bag. A couple of big Ts for labouring in and then I have the sensible black PJs and purple towels I bought for going in to have DD last year. Same goes for flip flops for the shower and i'm sure i still have a stack of pads in the house from when i had my first miscarriage. I sent DH to the supermarket for some and he wasn't sure which ones I'd meant, so bought one of everything sainsbury's had to offer, bless him. He must've been mortified at the checkout.

Never needed breast pads with either DS or DD after the first few days of my milk coming in so not sure whether to buy some or not. Last time I ended up giving them away.

Am wondering whether a tens machine is necessary though? been so long since I actually laboured I can't remember much about the pain side of things.

LackaDAISYcal · 27/08/2008 23:10

oooh, DH didn't get the stork sorted last weekend as he was having pooter issues but will do it this weekend or I will have to take over myself!

toolly · 27/08/2008 23:39

Dozy, have you tried IKEA Hemnes range? Not too bad quality either (I bought one two years ago and it's still looking good.)

Dozymare · 28/08/2008 08:01

Laughing at lacks having a virtual conversation weith herself!!!! I do taht all the time!!!!

tooley we have the Hemnes range for eldest DS - both the wardrobe and bunkbeds which are also 2 years old and still looking very very good indeed....trouble is, poor tiger lemonade is in the smallest bedroom (3mx2m!) and so once we have the cot in there average size seems about 124cm, doesn;t leave much room for anything else!! Have got a cot top changer from a friend so as well as my nursing chair (victorian used by 3 generations of Dozy's family) just need a wardrobe and Hemnes is to big! There is another cot and wardorbe on ikea website both white but would need to investigate as need something very sturdy in my house!!

Oblomov · 28/08/2008 09:07

LOL at Pinkalis' dh doing a wax for her. Love it. I too can't see a thing. But have been keeping mine trimmed. Well actually, it does involve a mirror and an electric razor and taking off anything I can see or reach. best I can do, I think.
I don't think I could wax.
LOL at Monkey and her toe hair wax.

MerryMarigold · 28/08/2008 09:27

Lacks I am SO jealous of hairlessness. My name should be Monkeymarigold!!! (LOL at the name Margot). To go swimming is too much of a PITA, so I only go on holiday. I should really keep 'on top of it' with waxing, but it is so expensive on the kind of regularity I need it (every couple of weeks) and never managed to make the home ones work. Pinkali, what one do you use, does it actually work?! I may treat myself if I am booked in for a cs, so I know when it is etc.

dozy - inherited nursing chair sounds fab! Not sure about the white stuff. Think Drswife had a load of white stuff in her nursery, but can't remember where she said it was from (Argos?). Tesco do baby furniture too.

I'm in a BAD MOOD today. I just feel very down about the diabetes. I feel hungry ALL the time, and can't eat the things I like/ want/ crave and it's not even working. My blood sugar is still out of control even with the insulin. I keep upping the dose (they said I should do this myself if's not coming down, but that's quite scary) and it's still not where it should be. I am going in tomorrow for routine appointment so will have a moan then!

MerryMarigold · 28/08/2008 09:37

dozy, here is a small one: white wardrobe

ChocOrange05 · 28/08/2008 09:45

Morning all - I am feeling quite sorry for myself today, got a horrid throat and glands the size of apples and I didn't sleep a wink last night. Have been trying hard to think PMA and the best I can come up with is.... "feeling like shit but at least I don't have to commute into work, now thats a stroke of luck".

I was wondering when someone was going to bring up the brazilian waxing - I've always been too scared / modest to get it done but I was thinking about it for the birth, and it could be an "introduction to pain down there" experience!

Merry sorry you feel down - definitely ask about it tomorrow - they may be able to help you - as for wanting sweet things I know M&S and Thorntons do sugar free chocolate and sweets if you want / are allowed those?

Lacks I was thinking about my hospital bag last night too - even though I am planning a HB I guess I need to be prepared for every eventuality. Anyone got a list of things that should go in the bag? For example, do you take your own nappies or do the hospital have them???

Anyhoo - gotta do some work, despite feeling crap I have to work as I am so busy, but at least I get to sit here in my dressing gown to do so, now thats a stroke of luck!!

vbab78 · 28/08/2008 10:00

merry & choc - hope you both feel better soon.

choc - I started with DS cold about 2 weeks ago now and was really knocked out for a couple of days but had to keep going due to work and no one else to look after DS. Still got a horrible cough now that doesn't do anything for ages then just starts and is really loud and rough.

I would like to think about hospital bag but probably cant do anything pregnancy fun related (i.e. shopping and organisation) until nursery plastered and decorated. So prob got to wait another 4+wks but I will be 34/35wks so still time I guess.

Pinkali37 · 28/08/2008 10:08

HEllo

Hana - thank you for that I will find out from our accountant. It's all far too complicated for me!

Oh no pregnancy brain, I can't remember who asked what waxing things I use, well i use Oh no i can't remember. They come in a yellow packet and they are strips that you rub between your hands. NEver used to work on me but these ones are great! It's not immac, erm it's the one that changed names. I will come up with it shortly.

I informed DH that I will be needing his skills in the bikini area last night, firstly he looked excited, then I soon put an end to that when I produced the waxing strips He is attempting it tonight so wish me luck

P.s. he painted my toenails on saturday night so I could wear some nice sandals, very funny because it took hm a while and then i decided to wear my flat shoes that don't show my nails off. Bless him, he looked most put out that his art work wouldn't be on show!

LadyBuzz · 28/08/2008 10:21

Pinkali your DH sounds lovely bless him.
I'm lucky I am double jointed so I can still reach my feet to paint and cut my nails
Choco hope you feel better I will try and dig out the list I got for hospital bag but I know in the hosp I will be in you had to supply everything except milk if you are bottle feeding and cotton wool!

vbab78 · 28/08/2008 10:23

30wk (monday gone) pics added to profile. Sorry a couple look freaky to me, I took them myself.

Oblomov · 28/08/2008 10:23

Oh dear we are all feeling rotten. PMA PMA. Never mind.
I feel so sick. All the time. Terrible.

MerryM have a moan to me. I totally understand feeling down about it. Just fed up with it all. Believe me, I know how that feels. Just keep going. Have a treat. Don't deny yourself, else you will be even more miserable. Keep thinking, ' I am trying. I am doing my best. And that is all that can be asked'.

thomasina1 · 28/08/2008 10:25

Waxing... wow you ladies are brave. I couldn't face it even before being pregnant, always use the cream which is just fine for me! Hmmm, I'm thinking that my low pain threshold maybe doesn't bode well for what is approaching in 3 month's time!

Well last night I had a bit of a breakdown. Just would love some reassurance that this is normal and that I'm not gong mad! Was basically a culmination of stressing over how much still needs to be done to get the house ready for baby...sorting through boxes and cupboards, decorating, cleaning carpets, getting furniture, buying all other stuff,.... aargh! Plus I think I am getting this increasing sense of panic that I will have a little baby very soon and how will I cope??!! In fact I think that's the main thing that's stressing me out. Weird cos I am normally a pretty well-balanced person (so I like to think) but am feeling on the verge of tears at the moment.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble.

You ladies do keep my spirits up! Hopefully I'll make it to the London meet-up (need to wangle an afternoon off work first!) - I think it will be funny to meet in person. MonkeyMargot I'll be wanting to check out those toes

Oblomov · 28/08/2008 10:32

Thomasina, totally normal. Yes even I am starting to feel a bit overwhelmed, and I already have ds. Please don't worry.
My best friend asked me if I was excited. And it dawned on me that I am not really. Why not ? More anxious than anything else. Hoping cs and diabetes goes o.k. And hoping I am o.k. And baby is o.k. and not ...... starved of oxygen, or brain damaged in anyway.
God, terrible thoughts. Where is my excitement ???????

Oblomov · 28/08/2008 10:33

Vbab, your pictures really are just FANTASTIC.

ceebee74 · 28/08/2008 10:34

Vbab - lovely photos and (I hope you don't take this the wrong way), I am quite glad that your bump looks as big as mine as I was getting extremely paranoid about it after I have had at least 10 comments this week about it! Your DS is so cute aswell and I love the 'press-up' photo

Thomasina - I think it is perfectly normal to have a 'stress' time - it is such a lot to deal with - not only the pregnancy, but also the fact that you are going to be responsible for the little bundle that is going to come out. You WILL cope - just remember that!!

Choc - you do get a 'freebie' pack from the hospital which did have a pack of newborn Pampers in (or at least I did 2 years ago) but I wouldn't guarantee it so definitely pack your own nappies. Most of the other stuff you need to take will be for you - not the baby (apart from baby clothes obviously).

Merry - sorry you are feeling crap aswell. It must be so hard for you not being able to eat what you want and have to think about it all the time. But, stroke of luck, you only have about 2 months left (or 8 weeks which does sound so much quicker)

thomasina1 · 28/08/2008 10:37

oblomov and ceebee, thanks for your kind words - just what I was hoping for! I am going to make a LIST of what needs to be done today, get my mind in order and I think that will help.

I really admire all of you with DC already, you must be so busy! Although maybe you are also more laid-back about the whole thing!

Am starting pregancy yoga next week so here's hoping that that also helps me feel a bit more "in control"!

Pinkali37 · 28/08/2008 10:43

VBAB - great pictures and a lovely bump.

Thomasina - I had exactly the same fear last week. I was in the office and I asked DH something and he snapped at me (bless him he is so busy and often in the office at 4.30am) well i just turned round at my desk and burst into tears (obviously quietly because no one heard) then it got uncontrolable so i went through to my bedroom and sat on the bed cuddling a pillow and the tears just kept on flowing. When DH came through eventually reaslising his wife was missing i just said i felt like a failure and that I couldn't do anything right. I said if elt like i let him down in the office and didn't support him enough and how the hell was I going to cope with a baby. I couldn't believe it of me, i am so calm and placid normally but alas those naughty hormones have caught up with me.

I think it is perfectly normal. It is a stressful time, our bodys are on overload and our minds are playing their own games (well mine is). Why do you think god made it so we the females had the babies? It was because we could cope a lot beter than the men! All we can do is ensure we don't bottle up our feelings. We are all here for each other on this thread and it really doesn't matter what it is you're worried about you can share it with us (i do) xxxx

Oblomov · 28/08/2008 10:53

Thomasina, yes, do a list.
List of big things thta need to be done - and don't worry, I STILL haven't sorted out babygrows from ds into newborn, 0-3 months etc = DO NOT PANIC
Plus, list of things to buy, be it pads, toiletries for hospital bag, whatever.
List it. And it won't seem so bad.
And next time you do yuor weekly shop, buy SOME of those toiletry bits.
One step at at time. We will all get there.

Or we'll get there and realise we have forgotten the .........
dh ?
Car parking money ?
Your glasses and are now blind as a bat ?

OR something.
but we will all MANAGE.
