Here we are! This should do us for a few weeks...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LittleMissNorty · 09/09/2008 13:42

America - you need to suspend childcare vouchers between weeks 17 - 25 as this is when your SMP is calculated and your NI contributions should be as high as possible. I have to pay nursery fees for next two months but will be worth it for the extra SMP.

PinkTulips · 09/09/2008 14:10

i'm having a rotten day, started coughing and getting a sore throat last night and had dd keeping me up all night so feeling wretched now. have been curled on the couch with the kittens for ages but dd is home now (thank god dp was home to go get her as it hasn't stopped raining all day) so had to drag myself up. hoping to god it's just one of those 24 hours things as i really cannot face being sick while preg.

on the plus side, baby is jumping around like mad poking cats and toddlers whenever they get near my tummy

TinkerBellesMum · 09/09/2008 14:27

I dunno, I go out for one day and you all write pages full! So expect this to be long!

I?ve noticed there?s a few of us on FB, anyone fancy starting our own group? We could make separate threads and post pictures, which we can?t do here. Of course we?d still talk here too.

Swampster, where are you having a problem? Is it emailing me or have I sent you the link already (should keep a list lol)

Welcome Questionkid, glad you managed to find us. Ask away! I?m not a first timer and still ask questions, still asking questions about Tink. I?ve never had the fluttery feeling; that tends to be wind for me, the stronger feelings tend to be baby (IME) I?m feeling ?her? running ?her? feet up and down my front when ?she? moves lately. Hello to Mrsy too.

No indigestion yet, last time I felt like I?d been punched in the back, I had a row on Mum when she told me it was indigestion, I couldn?t believe that it could feel like that! Since my last pregnancy caffeine gives me heartburn

Rosieposey I know people who inject insulin and heparin and they say they prefer insulin. Not trying to compete with you, just a ?could be worse?. I do feel for you though, it?s no fun having to stick needles in yourself - just remember keep it to the fattiest parts and it doesn?t hurt as much!

Dinkystinky, I understand where you?re coming from, my brother took one of the names I?ve always wanted for a girl (Paige) as I read a book about a girl called that (he named her after Bargain Pages, because they got a dog just before she was born and he suggested it for the dog but his partner said it was too nice for the dog) and another name on my list would be Piper, but no way am I going to do that now! I don?t know if it was a hoax but on my due date club with Tink there was a woman pregnant with quads, I think her name was Piper and he planned on using all Charmed names (Prudence, Paige, Phoebe and Penny) I never replied to her threads because I wasn?t sure if she was for real Anyway, back to you! People may not think so much about a middle name, especially if you have a really good reason why it?s always been on your list since you were five or something.

America, we had Tink in a moses until she was 11 months when she stood up in it one morning. I think size is the first factor and eventually moving around too much, they both vary with each child.

Getting shocked by comments about size, I?m feeling fatter by the day on here! I weighed myself yesterday though and I weigh as much as I did last time I went to the Rheumy, so I?m happy cause that means I?ve lost some weight and amazed because my bump is so big! I was still in normal clothes right up till Lily-Hope was born and there?s no way I would get in them now.

I got to admit I find the whole pregnancy thing a little Sci-Fi! I do find it weird that I have a baby inside me kicking away.

MarkStretch I find H&M Maternity sizing is all over the place. Sometimes I need an XL but it?s falling off me (and L is too small) and sometimes I need an M. I just like they don?t put numbers on their clothes so I don?t have to think too much about it!

KT1983 it?s not the bigger stores it?s just not the small stores (IYSWIM) I love their maternity clothes and they tend to be a good price, especially if you can get stuff in their sale. They also do really nice nursing tops that don?t look like nursing tops, I?m still wearing mine even though I don?t tend to feed Tink during the day or when we?re out. Problem I found last time, as I started in winter, was that I couldn?t find any maternity coats, I liked being pregnant in summer, even if it was a heat wave. Although I?ve seen a few more coats around this time. As far as growing is concerned, you will put down a lot of fat and water around the normal fatty areas, (thighs and bum mainly) which is a little like a camel when you breastfeed your body will use up those supplies first. Oddly enough if you don?t eat enough when you are breastfeeding your body will put down more fat and water to keep in reserve as it goes into starvation mode.

Mslucy, I found that maternity clothes lasted me a long time, first because the bump doesn?t go down straight away and secondly because they put less pressure on my scar.

Thehouseofmirth my new Next jeans are brilliant, they don?t even have buttonhole elastic. Tbh though I don?t jeans a problem anyway.

We?ve decided to work on presents straight away, we?re only buying for children and making calendars (we did last year too) for the adults. If anyone wants a calendar let me know, I can make it as a PDF so you can print it out or print them for you, but get in touch and ask if you are interested.

dinkystinky · 09/09/2008 15:08

Wow - that was a megapost Tink! Thanks all for your views on the name issue - have really loved the name since I was about 12 (read it in a book somewhere I think) but as am convinced this one is going to be a boy, doubt its going to be too much of an issue. Still, guess I find out in 4 weeks time!

PinkTulips - hope you feel better soon. Remember to drink lots of fluids and yummy honey lemon ginger water (find honey straight off a spoon helped me with my killer cough when I had the never ending cold a few weeks back).

PinkTulips · 09/09/2008 15:21

yep... i suck the honey off the spoon

lemon triggers migraines with me and ginger makes me puke this preg (yes i know it's supposed to have the opposite effect and i notrmally love it but ho hum) so will have to stick to just the honey, poor me

have paracetomol just in case but don't feel bone ache is justification enough really and the throat is bearable.

mslucy · 09/09/2008 15:29

wow that is a post Tink.

I know what you mean about the thighs, which is why maternity jeans scare me and I prefer the dresses/skirts over thick tights/leggings look.

Just braved John Lewis for school shoes today - ds was a dream despite my fears of major tantrums.

To change the subject entirely.

I did some part time work on the breast feeding programme publicised by those annoying pics of Kate Garraway and the cow.

It's on tonight on C4 and I will definitely contain some really interesting characters.

I'd be interesting to know what you all think of it as I got quite a lot of flak during the research process from people who thought it was exploitative.

mslucy · 09/09/2008 15:30

"it will" not "I will". gah!

TinkerBellesMum · 09/09/2008 15:38

I forgot that was on tonight. Will definetly try to remember to watch it.

Sorry about the long post, just trying to catch up! So what do we all think about the FB group idea?

mslucy · 09/09/2008 15:39

I'm a facebook addict so count me in!

Where do I sign up?

mrsy · 09/09/2008 15:39

mslucy - i really want to see that. my mum donated her 'spare' breastweek when she was weaning my sister and i thought it was weird at first, but now i think that it makes perfect sense. don't think i could handle a direct from the source donation though! i've always thought i'd breastfeed, and hopefully for a long time. i know the who (as in the world health organisation, not the band!!) says up to two and a half years, but i'd like to go to about 18 months. i've just ordered a breast pump actually, so my husband can do the last feed before bed. that way he can have a different level of bonding experience with the baby and i can get an extra hours sleep!!!!!

tink - think the fb thing sounds great. will set up a group now - oh, have you seen the tickers and spinning 3d baby thing? i have them on my page - awesome!

mrsy · 09/09/2008 15:40

um, for breastweek, read breatmilk! stupid baby brain!

mrsy · 09/09/2008 15:46

We are Mumsnet Mums Due Feb 2009. Hurrah!

swampster · 09/09/2008 15:51

Let me in, mrsy! Lol @ breatmilk.

mslucy · 09/09/2008 15:53

I didn't see anything wrong with it myself either.

It never occurred to feed anyone else's baby/let another woman feed mine but if I really think about it I wouldn't have been cross if someone I knew well had given ds a quick squirt when peckish.

Just think we are all very squeamish about breast feeding full stop and this programme only serves to highlight this.

Some of our contributors were a bit eccentric, but is that a crime?

TinkerBellesMum · 09/09/2008 15:53

I've made a group - MumsNet February 2009 Mums. I've got it on request to join, so just let me know who you are.

mrsy · 09/09/2008 15:54

Oh, which group do we use? And obviously breastmilk. Damn baby.

swampster · 09/09/2008 15:55

Oh dear, Tink, that makes two competing groups - I've already requested to join mrsy's Mumsnet Mums Due Feb 2009!

TinkerBellesMum · 09/09/2008 15:55

LOL oh dear, just seen we've got two groups now! I just scrolled down without reading

mslucy · 09/09/2008 15:56

I've just put in a request to yours Mrsy and will sign up for yours now Tink.

mrsy · 09/09/2008 15:57

do we need both though?

TinkerBellesMum · 09/09/2008 15:57

Lot's of X-posting going on here lol

Let me know what you want to do.

swampster · 09/09/2008 16:00

Stick with the one and only original and best: Mumsnet Mums Due Feb 2009!!! [scrap, scrap, scrap!]

MarkStretch · 09/09/2008 16:03

I have an embarassing problem....

I am having spontatneous nipple erections throughout the day, they hurt... I have been realising and flinging my arms across my chest mid conversation.

I am hoping this is a pregnancy symptom...

mrsy · 09/09/2008 16:07

MarkStretch, do you have thicker bras that could a) disguise the problem and b) keep them warmer (in case it is a temperature thing)?

swampster · 09/09/2008 16:09

[giggle]
