Jacaranda · 08/09/2008 17:56

My top girls name has just been used by DH's best friend but we're not close as families. SHe a very nice person but not a mate. We don't live very close by. DH and friend see each other more with things to do with work. They use a different shortened version of the name to what we would use ITSWIM

I am seriuosly tempted to use it anyway.

Jacaranda · 08/09/2008 17:57

Whoops IYSWIM

lardybump · 08/09/2008 18:05

evening everyone. Sorry I have been awol for a while but have been staying at my parents for a while. I am back now and looking forward to catching up with MN....

Hope you all are well. I am so big now and I mean big. I normally wear size 8 clothes but I am now in size 12 maternity because I am so fat. My legs and bum are massive.... I really am a fat biffa this time around. All my maternity clothers from last time around are getting too small already and I am only 16 weeks...... ...

herbgarden · 08/09/2008 18:28

HI everyone....
Sorry about GD Rosie....not great. If you were me you might be ok as I seem to have a crisp craving although maybe not as I also love those Haribo sweeties...will not mention again !!

On the subject of names,dh and I only agreed on one girls name last time and one boys and had a boy. Two of my friends (one a close friend and one an ante natal friend) used a derivative of our girls name (Evie -they both used Eva)...My ante natal friend wouldn't give a toss if we used it this time, the other I know would be a bit funny. She got upset when a friend of hers "copied" her engagement ring.....all a bit strange I thought. Slightly different p'raps from someone going and buying exactly the same outfit you'd bought for a wedding maybe (or wearing "off white" like my mil for our wedding ) but, anyway, you can probably see my predicament.

I also feel a bit like that name was for that baby so should we use it this time. Still can't think of a boys name- we had enough trouble last time...

Watching noddy with ds and off to give him a bath. Be back later !

Oh yes, lived on gaviscon last time and only today have felt a bit heartburney. Had a bit of it in the first few weeks and then it seemed to go away but I can feel it lurking !

mrsy · 08/09/2008 18:46

Hi

I'm Lucie and I'm due 22 Feb with my first after 2.5 years of trying.

I've had a few problems with bleeding and extreme nasuea, so have seen the baby 4 times already!!! and we have a 3d scan booked for Wednesday, when we will (fingers crossed) find out the sex - although I'm compleately convinced she's a girl!!

Have a bit of a bump - but not really much more than was there before!!

Have people been fleeing flutters already? I don't think I will for a while as I'm quite tubby, and it's supposed to be easier if you're slim...

LittleMissNorty · 08/09/2008 19:31

Welcome Mrsy and congratulations....we live pretty close and I work in your town

Thanks for advice Rosie.....very wise and will take heed.

lardybump · 08/09/2008 19:38

mrsY welcome and congratulations on you pregnancy. Hope all the problems are behind you noe. Mrsy and Littlemissnorty I also live in this area. Oh I wonder if we have ever met???? I never looked at your profile before..... How exciting.

rosieposey · 08/09/2008 20:03

Well Markstretch i will get that lemon cake recipe off you in another 4 and a bit months but in the meantime for dessert tonight i had muller light peach flavour which ill be honest doesnt have quite the same ring to it (never mind taste lol )

Is anyone else suffering from sciatica? If i do too much bending it kills for a couple of days ... shape of things to come methinks. Mind you its a good excuse to get out of the housework he he

Welcome mrsY im convinced im having a girl too - and having a scan on Wednesday too! Good luck

MarkStretch · 08/09/2008 20:58

Rosie I'm having physio for my sciatica on Friday. It's awful when it flares up, I can't sit or stand or anything but the pelvic tilts help. Just stand leaning forwards on the kitchen side and tuck your bum in underneath you as far as possible. Takes the strain off your lower back.

Tonight I have made bread, not cake or pudding!

Oh and DH felt the baby move for the first time tonight. It was only a tiny tiny kick but he screamed and waved his hand like he'd touched something hot and then said 'wow.....'

Everyone I speak to says 'oh it must be so freaky having a little person moving in you', er well not really, it's quite reassuring I find!

PinkTulips · 08/09/2008 21:32

rosie... after seeing me crawling on the floor crying the other night after mopping the floors you wouldn't believ how much housework dp has made off limits to me

still can't bath the kids or change a nappy without agony though so me thinks i'm going to be unable to walk by next month

markstretch, that's lovely bless em, they really don't get it til they feel it do they?

i've gotta say, i always have a very peculiar mixture of horror and reassurance about my babies moving. i like the fact that i know they're ok but it really does fee horrendous after about 6 months..... i've a short torso and i'm thin (when not gestating ) so they seem to spend all their time kicking my kidneys and trying to seperate my ribs... and they both took wierd pleasure in stretching themselves out as much as possible and making me feel llike my tummy was going to rip open.

rosieposey · 08/09/2008 21:32

Aww i cant wait to feel the baby kick properly and for DP to feel it too - thats sooo lovely.

I might go and have a moan about my sciatica to the doc because i have a feeling its going to be a common theme - never have had physio before for it and ive had it on and off since my first pregnancy - did it take long for your doctor to refer you markstretch?

Lol its funny the way people think you are akin to having an 'alien' wiggling inside you - i love it and cant wait for it to start in earnest!

rosieposey · 08/09/2008 21:42

Ohhh im glad its not just me with the sciatica thing because last night i could hardly get to the loo - had shooting pains all down the front of my legs and my back felt completely frozen will def go and see doctor i think

pluto · 08/09/2008 22:14

I feel very sorry myself. I am working too hard and doing long hours so no time to mnet at the moment. At least the busy work situation means I expect the pregnancy to fly by. I had the quad test today. Student midwife and midwife both took ages to find a vein so it was torniquet torture and success on 3rd attempt. I'm not going to take any further action if results come back as high risk - I just want to be "prepared". I hope all is well with everyone. I might get to read the posts when maternity leave starts in January

thehouseofmirth · 08/09/2008 22:17

Evening all & welcome Questionkid (am quite near you - I'm in Wimbledon) and Mrsy. Hope everyone's as well as can be expected in the curent circumstances. I too have got sciatica though not too bad, but am plagued by itchy-illnesses: eczema, conjunctivitis, and now, oh joy! what I think is thrush. Is there anthing I can do to make it go away naturally? I'd rather not subject me & my lodger to any more drugs and I don't think I've got the energy to back to the GP yet again.

Also have I got fat or are H&M maternity clothes totally mislabelled? I'm normally a size 6-8 and I bought a pair of size 10 trousers there today and they're blooming titchy!

rosieposey · 09/09/2008 07:49

Morning all

good luck with your test pluto - hope you get the results you want so you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy.

Houseofmirth try putting (yes literally) natural live yogurt on the 'affected area' its supposed to work wonders and if you keep getting it then eat it too to help build up natural immunity - hth

Feel knackered today - got up no less than 5 times during the night for a wee - grrr its hard to get back to sleep when DP is snoring gently next to you!

MarkStretch · 09/09/2008 07:55

Morning all

Rosie my midwife referred me on the 29th Aug and appointment is this Friday so not too bad I didn't think- for the NHS anyway!

My friend dropped her dd off this morning on her way to work to come to school with dd and I and the pair of them have screamed and laughed their way through toast and cereal- how would have thought it was so exciting to eat breakfast together?!

I had a restless night- I made the mistake of watching Dragons Den last night before bed and then spent the night having crazy dreams about mad inventions, none of which could actually make me any money I'm afraid!

Then I dreamed my colleague made me a ham sandwich which was full of cat hair, woke up feeling a bit sick...

MarkStretch · 09/09/2008 08:00

And houseofmirth I was going to say natural youghurt too.

And I bought a medium maternity skirt in H&M and it falls off me- far too big to wear and definitely NOT a size 14 so I think their sizings are a bit off, mind you I can never get jeans from H&M to fit me when not pg.

So far I have found New Look to be the best, if you can get past the chavs and the awful strip lighting. DH (after his screeching last night!) brought me up £25 this morning before he went to work so I can get a maternity hoody which does up round me!

KT1983 · 09/09/2008 08:33

Morning all...
I was just reading through the threads...I didnt realise H&M did maternity wear - Is it only in the bigger stores like oxford st?

Im not in maternity clothes yet, but i did have a look around the maternity section in Mothercare on Sunday...wasnt that impressed with the clothes in their to be honest - Im quite glad that this season is all long jumper dresses etc...hoping I can get away with some nice "normal" clothes for as long as possible...

I keep wondering if its better to be pregnant in winter or summer...Im thinking the winter, as at least we wont be getting all unneccessary from the heat!!

dinkystinky · 09/09/2008 08:58

Just typed a huge message then accidentally deleted it all.

KT - dont shop in mothercare: the stuff there is generally dire and really bad cut. Topshop are nice for basics (better selection in store at Oxford Street (separate entrance on regent street side), which is lovely and nothing like the usual Topshop scrum) and New Look can be good (but as others have said, sizing varies so try before you buy!).

Rosie/Markstretch - we did some moves for lower back/sciatica pain in pregnancy yoga on Sunday which I can post if you like (really easy to do, would need a partner to assist in one move).

HouseofMirth - natural yoghurt should do the trick. Also, cotton underwear (fairly loose) and avoid tights/tightish trousers till it clears up (daughter of 2 doctors who had thrush lots in first pregnancy until she discovered these tricks speaking here). Also helps if you avoid using perfumed products in the relevant area.

KT1983 · 09/09/2008 09:06

Excellent Thankyou - I didnt realise Topshop did maternity either...may have to get DP to take me for a bit of a shopping trip over the weekend...It is only fair I think

rosieposey · 09/09/2008 09:13

Would appreciate that dinky - as its painful and im going to take a leaf out of markstretchs book and go and see if i can get referred for it because i think its only going to get worse.

I agree on mothercare clothing - its foul and old fashioned. I wish i could fit into top shop maternity (i can barely fit into new look maternity) but ive just bought some long floaty empire line dresses and tops which ill wear with jeans and leggings/boots and that will have to do - dunno what im going to do for a winter coat though, im hoping it will be mild like last winter. Its also my first winter being properly pregnant as all my girls were born in summmer. I cant for the life of me find any maternity jeans i buy and 18 and its too tight on the tum but i buy a 20 and it falls off my derriere so cant win - might just try and stick with my own as long as poss and then manage with an elastic band and buy some of those bump bands

KT1983 · 09/09/2008 09:19

I think thats what im going to do Rosieposey - I think the empire line dresses with leggings/jeans is a good idea - they always look nice & comfy too.

alot of my jeans are quite low hipster type jeans, so im going to buy one of those belly belts that just expand with your growing bump...see how that works for a while?

This is baby number one for me....so maybe I am quite delusioned ( sorry cant spell! ) that it will only be my belly & boobs that grow....but im guessing im going to get rounder all over

swampster · 09/09/2008 09:20

I love Next for maternity basics - jeans and tops. Their sale was fab. But only online, they don't seem to stock anything in their shops and I've found their delivery appalling - order 10 items, get 10 different deliveries.
