Hi all,

glad the bleeding has settled down dinky, feel knackered after yomping around London yesterday and back ache made it a bit uncomfortable. Went on the London eye and to the London Dungeons but boy my feet were aching by the end of it!

I already bought the Graco three wheeler excursion travel system but it seemed lightweight and i didnt want it to take up loads of space in the car either as there will already be loads of us but i really want one of those bedside cots too because DP isnt that keen on having lo in bed with us and that way i get the best of both worlds.

I already got a swinging crib and moses basket but i might change my mind and take the moses basket back and just have a bedside cot instead ( small bedroom though so that might be a problem)

Questionkid · 08/09/2008 11:58

Hi all,

I'd like to add myself to this thread please - am due on 3/2/09. Believe it or not I've been on MN (and loving it) for about 3 weeks now and it's taken me until today to find this thread! I put it down to baby brain.

I'm a first timer so forgive me if I ask lots of stupid questions!

dinkystinky · 08/09/2008 12:03

Welcome to the thread Questionkid (great name - will come into its own in 2 years time when your DC starts saying "What is that? What is that?" over and over until your brain is ready to explode - or is that just my DS who does that...) and morning all.

Is that pigeon thread for real Swampster?! I have been actively training DS to run after pigeons as am pigeon (and most other birds above the size of a robin) phobic and I figure its one of the perks of having a very active toddler.... We went to London Zoo yesterday and went to the animals show they do - I had a parrot swooping just over my head for 5 minutes of it and thought I was going to die (though managed to contain most of the muffled screams). DS loved it though...

rosieposey · 08/09/2008 12:17

Hi Questionkid - i posted recently on your thread Welcome and congrats!

LittleMissNorty · 08/09/2008 14:09

Hello Everyone....been AWOL for a while....busy decorating etc before I get too big, but is all done. DD has a new bedroom to move into leaving the nursery for the new LO to have, so I can get all my newborn stuff down from the loft now and see what I've got.

Luckily nursery doesn't need decorating (hasn't even been done 2 years!).

Scan appointment has come through for Friday week so very excited although we won't be finding out what we have....tempting as it is!

We're also beginning to think about names now and coming up with a short-list....anyone else?

Congratulations Ooogs on a DS.... fab news

Welcome to the thread QuestionKid...you need to add yourself to the most recent list.

Questionkid · 08/09/2008 14:50

Oooh, how do I add myself to the most recent list?

See, my name sums it up really, I have lots of questions!

Thanks for the welcome rosieposey, I remember you because if I have a girl I want to call her Rosie.

My scan is on 25 September and we plan to find out what we're having so soon we'll know. Fortunately me and DP are completely agreed on names, we've picked one out for a girl and one for a boy. Let's just hope they suit LO when he/she makes an appearance!

MarkStretch · 08/09/2008 14:53

Welcome Questionkid. Don't worry about asking stupid questions, this is my 2nd pg, my first was 6 yrs ago and I can't remember a thing so I'll ask them too!

I am feeling lots of little kicks now, mostly really down low though and some a little to my right side. Baby is definately dancing on my bladder.

Decided on the bedside cot by the way.

Have a boys name which everyone loves as he will be named after my elderly grandfather and a girl's name everyone hates!

Questionkid · 08/09/2008 15:00

I thought I might've been feeling some movements but as they don't feel like the fluttering/butterfly feeling that most people describe (they're more solid and slower) I've decided they were wind!

Jacaranda · 08/09/2008 15:03

Had a really good movement about a week ago and nothing since Oh well, it'll all start happening soon I'm sure.

Wecome questionkid

Anyone else got screaming indegestion?

LittleMissNorty · 08/09/2008 15:07

I haven't got indigestion yet....but had it for the WHOLE of my last pg...(it was my very first symptom over a week before I got my BFP)...so I REALLY sympathise with you....I had bottles on gaviscon in my handbag, desk, bedroom, bathroom....everywhere.....the minute DD was born, it disappeared.....weird huh?

Jacaranda · 08/09/2008 15:08

I rely on tums!!! Have boxes everywhere. Both my dc's were sections, as the surgoen pulled my babies out my indegestion disappeared - bliss!

LittleMissNorty · 08/09/2008 15:13

I really expected to get it this time as well.....but is mild in comparision to last time. My DD was a section as well....I remember laying there thinking blimey, no indigestion for the first time in 38 weeks.....rather than I have a baby daughter.........

Jacaranda · 08/09/2008 15:14

lol yes I remember thinking that too!!!!

Questionkid · 08/09/2008 15:14

Ive got indigestion Jacaranda - had tex mex at a lovely restaurant last night and couldnt sleep without remegel!

Had my GTT this morning (that glucose drink wasnt as bad as i thought it would be) and the hospital just rang me with my results - that was quick!! and it appears i have gestational diabetes again - no surprise just a bit sooner than the last three times - up to hospital for instructions on insulin and blood testing three times a day on Wednesday - yuk! i hate injecting myself im such a wuss

Oooggss thats great news about your DS too - congats!!!

Jacaranda · 08/09/2008 15:18

Oh bad luck Rosie, that's pants but at least you know what your doing

dinkystinky · 08/09/2008 15:26

Sorry about the gestational diabetes Rosie - guess its a good thing it got caught fairly easy and you know what you're in for though.

Not had any indigestion - DH seems to be suffering from the pregnancy indigestion for me (as he's doing the drinking for 2 and eating for 2 thing on my behalf)

LittleMissNorty · 08/09/2008 15:51

Sorry to hear about the diabetes Rosie....does it go away after LO is born? Have you had large babies before?

sorry about all the questions but I have to have GTT due to my (pre-pg) size and it was revolting but results were normal last time and am wondering whether or not to refuse the test this time.

PinkTulips · 08/09/2008 15:59

my god, i'm here all morning and none of you are about and i pop out to the garden for an hour and ye all explode into chat!

welcom questionkid.... don't worry, we were all first timers once so we've all asked the silly questions at some point

sorry about the GD rosie but at least you were prepared for it and have the experiance of it.... still sucks though. i vote we ban all talk of sweets and puddings from the thread for the duration so rosie doesn't have to read about all our treats.

dinkystinky · 08/09/2008 16:03

On topic of names, one of DH's friends has just named her little girl with one of our top girls names (Iona) as a middle name. Is it wierd that I now dont want to use it as a name (not that I'll think we'll get to use it this time anyway)? DH thinks am being pregnant and irrational on this point

america · 08/09/2008 16:20

Sorry to hear that Rosie. It seems like you at least know how to handle it...

We have a tiny bedroom and I've been wondering about the moses basket to get us started. Any idea how long a baby can sleep in it? I really don't want to spend too much on another cot as DS is growing out of his cot soon anyway and we could maybe use his for the new arrival. Or do you think it's too early to move DS into a proper bed in December (he'll be 20 months)? We thought that would give him enough time to forget his old cot before the baby arrives in Feb.

rosieposey · 08/09/2008 16:37

Lol dinky i felt like that when someone nicked Lilly for my eldest dont worry though at least you have some back up names and tbh not many people ask middle names so you could still use it?

Pinktulips ive just had to give the last of my appletise (sob) to DD3 and feel a bit bit depressed at the thought of no lovely sweet things at all but as long as my lo is fine thats all i care about.

Littlemissnorty i think that i wouldnt refuse a repeat GTT cause you can even get it late in pregnancy but it wont have to much of an adverse effect on your lo then. I nearly lost DD3 admittedly due to the rubbish management of my labour but also because my diabetes was poorly controlled and my blood sugars were high towards the end. It pays to know as early as poss so you can be monitored and i know its a bit rubbish having the test done but if you end up with a GD baby they can be huge and there can be probs with getting them out and the size of their bodies often are huge and there internal organs are normal sized so they struggle a bit IYSWIM. My diabetes did go away after my previous pregnancies but ive never had such high readings so early on as i got today and im a fair bit older than the last three times so it might not. Just have it done - its all good if its normal and its only two hours and some yukky liquid and youve nothing to lose

MarkStretch · 08/09/2008 16:39

America - dd was in her moses basket until about 4 months, I really started to feel like she was too big for it then and as she got bigger I started worrying that she would wave her arms and legs about and tip it over.

I would say 20 months is ok for a big bed- you could get a low one and add sides for extra security?

Rosie- I am never mentioning these again, well until your lo is out!

sweets

puddings

cakes

biscuits

swampster · 08/09/2008 17:12

I would go ahead and use whatever name you fancy if I were you, dinkystinky. And your mate's daughter only has it as a middle name - which is, in effect, a non-name really.

We didn't give DS1 a name because one of DH's friends pipped us to it by a few months. We have met our DS's non-namesake all of- oooohhhh - one time.
