On the bump or no bump topic, my sil who is tall and well toned, really didn't show much at all until about 4 months this time and was on her third child. With her first though she was back in her pre-preg jeans the Monday after having her ds1 on the previous Friday., I think she just has v.strong stomach muscles and hardly showed at all. I, on the other hand, have always had weak stomach muscles and a little pot belly (i'm not a big girl but not well toned in the belly dept !!) and this time it all just popped out quickly and now there isn't any hiding it - 17 weeks this week. So, I suspect it really is down to your own physical make up.....

laidbackinengland · 04/09/2008 20:46

Markstretch... sounds like you DD needs a low dose mood-stabiliser .

Sorry not to have been around much this week, have worked a couple of days and been away training.

DS2 has started school this week and is loving it but is also vvvvv. tired. I think it's all the change of being in a new environment.

Singingintherain · 05/09/2008 08:44

Been up all night with moving around in tummy. I can not believe that I was worrying about no movement the other day.

It was a series of small muscular pulls under the skin, just like those you get much later. It felt like my tummy was just about to an incredible rummble with hunger iykwim. My DH put his hand on my tummy and felt it move all the away across from one side to the other and it freaked him out.

He must have been taking on board some of the food I ate yesterday. At times it became uncomfortable and by 1.00am I was unable to get comfortable as he was still awake. Up, down, left, right and kicking.

He is a little calmer this morning, so I am going to catch up on some sleep.

dinkystinky · 05/09/2008 08:51

Morning all. Markstretch - if your daughter is like that again today, stick on some music and have her dance it out - I find the endorphin rush is brilliant for sorting out the mania/hysteria of kids (used to do it with my friend's little girl when I was babysitting for her mum - worked a treat)!

My hormones are clearly all over the shop today - was reading my hypnobirthing book on the tube and burst into tears (most unlike me). All the businessmen around me were trying to move as far away as humanly possible...

KazzaL · 05/09/2008 08:54

rosieposey - I had my flu jab as normal when pg with DS1 in autumn 06 - checked with consultant first - I am on the list of those peopl who are recommended to have it, heart murmur, coeliac disease...... Haven't checked this time, but i can't imagine that the advice will have changed although most seems to have done - no small glasses of wine this time , so I'll be having my jab whenever work provide it this autumn.

dinkystinky · 05/09/2008 08:56

Singing - congratulations on all the movements; must be a relief to be feeling them! Hope the little bean doesnt keep you up too much tonight...

KazzaL · 05/09/2008 09:00

stil not sure what to do about not feeling any movement yet, sometimes it feels like something is pushing on my insides, but i;m sure with DS1 i felt the flutterings and then lots of kicking - scan isn't for 4 weeks.

helping my friend & her hubbie move house this weekend and its the NCT sale tomorrow morning, so i won't have time to worry anyway. She's told me that she's going to tell all the other helpers that I'm pg (she's due in Nov and is very huge as she's tiny) and not to let me lift anything as I'm not very good at not doing anything and keep muttering about women in africa when I'm not allowed to do anything - luckily DH knows better than to argue with me. I was mowing the lawn a couple of days beofre DS1 arrived and DH got told off by our neighbour

herbgarden · 05/09/2008 09:10

after all that activity kazza this weekend you might feel some movement....

rosieposey · 05/09/2008 09:55

Morning all, KazzaL thanks for that - ill go and have my jab as per usual with the surgery then - i have asthma and I havent had flu for a long time but would hate to catch it. I remember being so poorly with my pregnancy with DD3 i had a nasty cold and chest infection which put me in hospital for 2 weeks so if i can possibly avoid catching anything yukky i will

Well im 16 weeks tomorrow and i thought as a 4th timer i would have felt something on a regular basis by now but the only time i can say i felt something significant was last Saturday when we were eating out - could swear i felt two good prods consecutively! Thank god for my doppler otherwise i would be worrying - they say thinner people feel movement first though so maybe i just cant feel it with all the extra padding

Weather here is atrocious! Mind you im starting to get that lovely Autumnal feeling now - this is totally my favourite time of the year ... love the crisp mornings and lovely sunshine (when it does) pretty leaves and coming fun stuff with the kids like Halloween and Bonfire night. My girls are getting a bit old for some of that stuff so am so glad this lo is coming along to enable me to be the big kid that i am.

KazzaL · 05/09/2008 09:58

I'm hoping the no-movement signifies I have a dainty little girl in there rather than the trashing boy I had last time - I so want a girl this time and DH wants another boy as he's worried about clenaing "girl bits". As one of us will be disapponited we going to wait till it pops out to find out its flavour when we won't have time to stay disappointed for long as we'll be up to our eyeballs in nappies and be exhausted

Got my triple or is it quadruple test results yesterday - 1 in 280 which makes me low risk apparently - doesn't seem very low risk to me?

america · 05/09/2008 10:08

Thanks for your help on my yoga problem. I am starting on pregnancy yoga on Monday! So pleased with myself and on top of it's FRIDAY!!

KazzaL, do you every crave for foods with gluten i.e. pizzas, hamburgers etc? I have coeliac disease too and have been absolutely dying for a BigMac for soooo looong...

KT1983 · 05/09/2008 10:28

I had my first midwife appointment yesterday and heard my babys' heart beat again - such a relief - although it wasnt very clear as the little bugger was moving around too much - but I guess this is only a good sign...

KazzaL - I also think it will be a boy because of all the thrashing...although DP is adamant she will be a litle girl...Cant wait til we can find out!

KazzaL · 05/09/2008 10:59

america - things I miss most are having a naan bread whenever we have a curry, nice bread, doughnuts, tesco finest cookies, Pizzahut and being able to go out a luncthime & just buy a sandwich. I'm not very good coeliac - i eat too many things I shoudln't as I'm not very symptomatic, just get a bit windy and stomach ache.

Just about to have DS1 tested as he's 16mths now and food flies through him very undigested - lunch is through by bedtime and although he doesn't have many symptoms, jsut a fat tummy (but he eats loads)and not normal poo!! As both me & mum are coeliac I would prefer to know before I continue poisoning him for much longer.

KazzaL · 05/09/2008 11:04

Just had a big bar of choc (605cals - oops), so I'm hoping that will prompt some movement in there, otherwise may brave the rain and get a costa hot choc with all the extras at lunchtime as that always did the trick first time round. Apolgies to those who are off sugar for the next 5mths

KT1983 · 05/09/2008 12:23

Ooohhh...ive just read that post about a hot chocolate.....Now I want one...
Think an early lunch might be in order!

MamaGoose · 05/09/2008 13:53

Singing - I am in Madrid. Only been here since Jan. Am terrified of the Spanish obsession with stirrups, c-sections, episiostomies, enemas etc etc! Some hospitals still even shave you apparently. It's like the horror stories our mothers told us before the NCT really got going! Trying to find myself a 'hippy' doctor who believes in natural birth and maybe even a home birth (had my second at home in London which was FAB!). My Spanish isn't good yet so the language barrier is limiting. Am also shocked at the price of nappies - almost 20euros here for a pack that would cost less than nine quid in Superdrug! Am thinking of going re-usable this time just don't know how to source them out here.

dinkystinky · 05/09/2008 14:28

That sounds awful MamaGoose - and awfully like the bit in the Hypnobirthing book that made me cry this morning. Good luck finding your hippy doctor!

MamaGoose · 05/09/2008 14:42

Yeah, I don't think I appreciated my little community midwife team enough last time!

winemakesmummyclever · 05/09/2008 15:21

Hi all, hope you are all ok. I am sick of this jeffing rain now! Am sure my feet are becoming webbed.

Saw community mw yesterday for a quick check up. Bp up a wee bit for me, but had been trying to keep ds in check in the waiting room .

FH nice and loud - v v reassuring to hear. Don't know the HR as she was too busy admiring my belly button jewellery! Have held out against buying a doppler as I would just use it 24/7. Still no movement really - probably just a helluva lot of wind as a wee bit constipated (tmi? sorry). No date for next scan yet, but have booking in at ANC on the 15th. Will definitely find out the sex if we can - am hopeless at dealing with surprises!

MS - have emailed you re. stretches for your sore ass .

PinkTulips · 05/09/2008 15:26

kazzaL..... on of the gf brands does garlic and coriander naan bread, Livwell i think it was. got it for dd a few weeks back and she quite liked it. haven't found solutions the the other ones yet i'm afraid but i'll let you know if i do. dd is only wheat intolerant though, not coeliac so i can make her nice bread at least.

try not to worry too much about your ds, my lad is 2 and still has chunks of everything he eats in his nappies and has pooed out one meal before the next one is served but he's as healthy as a horse. i think their little guts just aren't designed to cope with the vast majority of the food they consume until much older and just pass it through.

mamagoose, almost all of the nappy companies online sell overseas and the postage is reasonable. try Twinkle on the Web, Bumfluff Nappies and Babykind to start with, they're 3 of the best for variety and price.

MarkStretch · 05/09/2008 16:23

Hello all

WWMC- thanks for the stretches, Dh is going to instruct me later on.

IT@S FRIDAY! I have DH home tonight after his 4 night shifts this week and it is the BB final!

Am making chicken fajitas and we have tortilla chips and onion rings and dips.

I have been so tired today and had another bloody headache. Came home at lunchtime to wake DH up and fell asleep on the bed for an hour Luckily I was working from home this afternoon.

So, as we all approach the milestone of the 20/22 week scan, who is finding out?!

MarkStretch · 05/09/2008 16:24

Oh , I definitely am by the way, I can't bear surprises!

PinkTulips · 05/09/2008 16:28

nope..... love the surprise and i'm in the lucky position of having one of each already so there's no secret desire there. will be happy either way.

have an inkling it's a girl though judging by sickness and bump size compared to my older 2..... although the spottiness is like when i had ds so.........

MarkStretch · 05/09/2008 16:31

I think I am having a boy. I am carrying completely differently to dd.

PinkTulips · 05/09/2008 16:35

i did carry ds totaly differantly. i was huge all over whereas with dd and with this one so far i have a little bump at the front.
