Hmm we introduced a swear box to phase out our swearing - sort of didnt work as kept losing track of who owed what! My mother uses "My goodness" instead of swearing - and DS has picked that up a treat from her instead of the littany of swear words from his parents, thank goodness!

Told people generally at work today - was v sweet as most of them hadnt guessed (the magic power of the fat suits is proved again) so they were all v excited for me. And my ex-room mate was so sweet - she gave me an orchid today as a thank you for all the support I've given her since she came back to work and a really sweet thank you card saying how genuinely happy she is for me and bump. Almost made me cry! Am getting a new room mate in another 3 weeks - v odd as shared a room with her boyfriend when was pregnant with DS.

Erm, I made lamb stew earlier and now my house stink of lamb and it's making me queasy. My hands smell of lamb and I can't go in the kitchen cos it smells of lamb and I was nearly sick cleaning my teeth because I could smell the lamb.

I am going to bed to escape the lamb-ness.

I don't think I will ever eat lamb again.

Calico1 · 01/09/2008 21:23

Just checked for the belly hair thing - nothing except for what I can only describe as a 'bristle'.....where the hell did that come from!!! Too vile - off to find some tweezers

spottyshoes · 01/09/2008 21:32

Ohh (Thought it was a Thomas toot )

Eurgh, feeling your sickness over lambness, just reading it and the thought of it is making me queasy!

I'm glad your roomate took it well DinkyS, I've been in both your positions and It's not nice on either side. What on earth is it you do where you 'room' with someone's bf?? Sounds like an intriguing job .

PMSL at the bristle Calico! Happy tweezing.

Am off to bed. Dont like this having to get up and work lark

Night all x

Am a lawyer, Spottyshoes. The firm I work at has a policy of more senior lawyers sharing rooms with more junior lawyers (so they in theory learn from you, get involved in your deals from the start and you can easily delegate to and supervise them). It is also a little bit "Ally McBeal" in that alot of the lawyers there tend to end up going out with other lawyers in the firm (infact DH and I trained there together and got together there - when we announced our engagement we got a congratulations email from the partner who recruited both of us, signed off as "Cupid"!) - oh, and there is now a karaoke bar beneath the firm's offices. Fortunately no one is quite as neurotic or annoying as Ms McBeal.

TinkerBellesMum · 02/09/2008 00:37

Also have a hairy belly here! I'm very fair with dark hair so it looks terrible. I never had the line. Oh and I have a hairy chin!

MarkStretch, you won't squash baby, there is plenty of padding (not saying you're fat) between the outside world and baby. I know some women even inject into their belly when pregnant legs only here!

easyjules · 02/09/2008 00:39

how are you doing? (its just jules here)

you injecting for this pregnancy?

i was so pleased to see your name on a preggers thread

easyjules · 02/09/2008 00:39
TinkerBellesMum · 02/09/2008 01:47

lol Jules, thanks I'm only 18 weeks and known 12! Yes, daily (or when I remember it as Mum has made me put it in the bedroom out of sight) injections of Heparin. I'm feeling like a pin cushion!

herbgarden · 02/09/2008 08:49

spotty had a boy so not sure if there is a theory on the hair or no hair....I did have a high bump though and my friend who had a low "subsiding" (or so dh commented) bump had a girl - so not sure if there is any merit in that argument but lets see eh...

On the swearing front - I've started with the "oh goodness" which ds has picked up but he sounds like such an old man when he says it. We had a little phase of "shit" about 2 months ago but luckily we nipped it in the bud.

dinkystinky - another lawyer here....I moved out of London a few years ago just before I had ds and we're all open plan in our offices here - thought I'd never get used to it but I really like it - I remember the days of "rooming" with colleagues. It was all quite friendly if you actually liked the person you were with and a nightmare if you didn't. Glad it all went well for you when you told your colleague though. Wasn't that sweet of her to send you the orchid and card. Do you do full time ? I often wonder what it would have been like to have kept my job in london and do the hour or so commute juggling with the childcare. I work part time now (jobshare with another lawyer) and have a nursery and family on my doorstep so just have a quick 15 min bus ride into the town to work and the nursery. It's less stressful but I sometimes miss my old life and in fact my old (and slightly more interesting) job !!

nadssss · 02/09/2008 09:47

House of Mirth ? my heart beat is ridiculously low down too ? don?t worry ? below knicker line ? am also 17 weeks.
Spotty ? I am having a girl and have blonde hairs AND a nigra line ? ahhh

Just had a reassurance scan this morning ? all good! Hurrah. She has such a sweet little profile.

dinkystinky · 02/09/2008 10:06

Hello Herbgarden - am working "fixed hours" full time (which is as close to part time as a transactional corporate lawyer can get at present) which works out ok most of the time - occasionally have to stay beyond my fixed hours for deals (but as long as have enough visibility can sort it out with DH or nanny) and more often than not need to be available on phone or blackberry or online in the evenings after DS is down (which is fine as DH often works pretty long hours so its do work or veg in front of the tv or online anyway). Am sometimes envious of lawyers who have moved out of london to work in house or part-time, but still like my job and the kind of work I do, and love living in london, so will see how long can keep it going for.

PinkTulips · 02/09/2008 10:20

hello all.

was busy nesting yesterday. my living room looks lovely and neat and organised. just the entire rest of the house to go

although i did finally drag out the baby clothes to assess what i have and what i need..... i forgot how much spare cash we had when we had dd bloody hell that girl had some nice clothes...... as the sizes go up you can see the switch from next and mothercare to primark everything i've got some lovely boy things as well though so i'm pretty sorted for either flavour. just need the basics like vests and babygros which i'll be picking up week by week in tescos to spread the cost.

i'm a little bit scared of how organised i am this time round

dd is back at playschool (thank the gods) although she had better stop wetting herself or she won't be able to stay there so annoying, she never once wet herself at playschool last year (only at home for my benefit) but she did it twice yesterday.

tink..... ds was the same size as dd at 6 months when she was 2 and has always been within a kilo of her since them. i actually had one old man think they were twins and as they get older i'd say that will happen a whole heap more!

off to read the last few posts now, god you guys fill up a thread quick

PinkTulips · 02/09/2008 10:27

forgot to say, baby was giving dp a great show last night.... he had his hand on my belly for ages and baby performed like mad for him... he's never had the chance to feel one this early on as the other 2 were far too akward for that

herbgarden · 02/09/2008 11:32

hats off to you dinkystinky - I don't think I could make the effort to go from 3rd gear (which I'm in now) to 5th gear again. My sil does it - partner in city firm with 3 kids and my brother who works pretty full on. I see how stretched they get at weekends trying to juggle the kids lives, the washing, the clearing up and the organising and still trying to find time for each other and themselves. They have a nanny and my sil is superorganised but I think she loves her job - that is the main thing isn't it otherwise for that much personal sacrifice (financially rewarding) - you just wouldn't do it. I couldn't swap my slightly pedestrian lifestyle (albeit that it is sometimes mind numbingly boring) for that now - but as I say do sometimes sit here wistfully reminiscing about life in London before DS. The good thing is that lots of my friends work PT now so I get to see them on my days off and have also met "local" friends - I also get to see my parents for short bursts rather than long weekends for eg. They'll have ds for a morning for me or babysit so for me, the pros at the moment outweight the cons. DH can go abroad with his job if he chooses to at some point soon - I'm reluctant at the moment as I wouldn't be able to work and I'd have no support ! Maybe if he finds a nice warm country I might be persuaded.....

dinkystinky · 02/09/2008 11:56

know what you mean Herbgarden - feel like my work life has dialed down a notch to 3rd gear too (just by working "fixed hours"). A friend of mine who had her DS 6 months before I did stayed in 5th gear after coming back to work and has just made partner (which is what she really wanted to do) but it has involved huge sacrifices on her part, particularly in not seeing her DS for days on end and having to work weekends when she could otherwise be spending time with him and her husband - I took one look at that while on maternity leave and thought, nope, dont want that!

Singingintherain · 02/09/2008 12:43

Hi All,

feeling very odd today. Started sleeping really badly and feel as though I can not get my breath. I think he must be sitting very high up. I know that the baby is really long already for 18 weeks. My movements are only tiny, if any. Is anyone else stuggling to feel them too.

I was going to get my box of cereal from England yesterday, but the person bringing it forgot it, so I have to wait until Monday. I am really missing porridge.

Been looking for travel systems as well, but I think I am going to have one sent from UK. I like the very simple ones with basic frames but have noticed that they ranged from £500 upwards, about E700. I saw a lovely one in England for £300 so I am going to use a sling until I can visit again to buy one. I bought a great bean-pillow on Saturday that has a cover to make it into a seat style thing that has a harness for baby. You can use it throughout pregnancy and for feeding as well as for baby. I just love it and can not help falling asleep on it.

Neeerly3 · 02/09/2008 13:48

Hi all

Singing - I think i will be feeling movements soon, can feel flutterings and like ghostly movements from one side of bump to other (like someone is lightly running their finger across the bump from the inside? make sense?)

Where do you live singing? could one of us pick a buggy up for you and ship it over? can you link to any you have particularly liked? I am getting a hand me down Chicco S3 travel system from my sister, includes car seat, carry cot and buggy. It's in grey and yellow so will suit whichever sex we end up having.

That bean bag sounds cool, I bought something similar for my sister, but wasn't for adult use though, just for baby and then for toddler without harness on - think I am borrowing that too!

herbgarden · 02/09/2008 13:59

Hi Singing - I struggle with breathlessness at times and I have suffered badly with not sleeping well at all which has made me really exhausted although not necessarily together. You have my sympathies and I dont' think this is unusual. I found towards the end of my pregnancy it got so much worse (sorry) - My movements are only tiny too. I feel faint flutterings intermittently but they aren't regular and you have to be fairly quiet to notice them. I didn't really feel much at all until about 20/21 weeks last time (am 17 weeks now) and then only mild feelings. What was it like with your dc's 1 and 2?....

dinkystinky · 02/09/2008 14:41

Singing - sorry to hear about your breathlessness. Perhaps - medical issues permitting - you could try some gentle pre-natal yoga stretches for your body: they really helped me in later stages of pregnancy with DS (when I was huge and v breathless as have quite a short body). Also try lots of meditative deep breathing exercises - is great for relaxation before bedtime when feeling breathless.

Am not feeling huge amount - the occasional flutter or squiggle, so you're not alone.

herbgarden · 02/09/2008 16:56

Ooh am off to my first pregnancy pilates tonight....not quite sure what to expect but am quite looking forward to an hour of "peace" and a change of scenery outside of the house with a few other pregnant women....if dh can manage to get home in time from work for me !....

spottyshoes · 02/09/2008 17:50

DinkyS - that sounds very respectable - I was thinking Pre-season bedroom tester for Big Brother or something!

Good to hear your reassurance scan went well Nadssss. You and Herb seem to have disproved the theory (much to DH's delight as he wants a girl!)

Pilates sounds good, I really want to do some exercise but dont know if I dare with the SPD as I have so long to go yet and dont want to make it much worse!

MarkStretch · 02/09/2008 19:37

Hellooooo

Was dd's first day back at school and she said she 'absolutely aboslutely loved it'.

But she did also say that her teacher gets a red face when she's cross.

Anyway it must have worn her out because she's in bed asleep already!

The hospital physio rang me today and I've got an appointment for next Friday to see her. When I described the arse ache she says she thinks it is my back rather than my pelvis but gave me some pelvis tilting exercises to do to relieve the pressure off my lower back.

I am feeling movements- in fact in bed last night I felt a tiny kick against my hand but they are few and far between and I only really feel them when I'm concentrating if you know what I mean.

PINK- please come and clean my house, or at least send me some nesting vibes.

Spotty- I made a valiant effort today and used the phrase 'BUST MY BUFFERS!'. It felt good.

PinkTulips · 02/09/2008 19:45

{{{{{{{{{{{{vibes}}}}}}}}}}}}

not that i used any nesting vibes myself today. i need dp and his mate to move the ugly 'homemade' wardrobe (ie from timber scraps and skirting boards) that same mate gave us (cheers jay ) into the garden where it can live out it's sad existance as a compost shed so i can work on the baby's room. everything that needs doing upstairs seems to involve that damn heap of junk being gone!

my dd has been out cold since 7 was 6.15 yeasterday i do so love playschool!

MamaGoose · 02/09/2008 19:56

Hello all

Just back from wonderful holiday - except for bleeding and hospital admittance at the end! Grrrr. Back on the progesterone...

My baby seems to be incredibly low down. Maybe it's because it's my third and I'm clearly baggy! And I've got a sort of pressure feeling. Anyone else got this? The antenatal care here (Spain) is crap so I'm really out on my own on this.

Singing - are you in Spain too?
