i was thinking of getting something from the baby for my ds. people have said that i should get something that my ds really likes at the moment but to be honest he is not really into toys so i am a bit stuck ????

i would like ds to show grand parents the new baby

07mumstheword · 05/08/2008 08:54

I'm definately getting DD a present for when baby arrives but still debating what. She is obsessed by dolls, prams, nappies etc so I'm thinking of getting her one of those more "realistic" dolls that have functions, just a bit worried that it could cause me more work if it's too "realistic"

Jambers For your DS they do do blue pushchairs and dolls (I've seen them in ELC) if your DH thinks that is more appropriate 2 of my friends have them for their sons and they seem to love them.

CSWS We are thinking of getting a dolls house from the ELC for Christams but I really like the one you are thinking of getting would you mind telling me the website name as the link only shows the pictures (unless I'm being dim again!)

jenwa · 05/08/2008 09:02

rowanmac oouch! Poor you, hope youget some relief. Do you have a pelvic belt? You should get one from the Physio.

CSWS nice present. Still got to go shopping for pressie for DD.

have tried searching for the childbirth thread but to no avail - am just a bit rubbish! it's a fair few pages long though, title is something along the lines of "what you wish you'd known about labour, that the books don't tell you" for anyone who's better at this than me!

have heard good stuff about lavender and tea tree - another tip is apparently douse your pads in tea tree then store them in the freezer for pain relief...trouble with arnica tablets is you could be taking them for weeks before birth couldn't you? doesn't hurt though I suppose

emkay · 05/08/2008 11:05

Jambers - My DP was even unsure about our daughter having a pushchair to play with - something about stereotypes - but helpfully a speech therapist friend told him that things like pushchairs, playfood, kitchen stuff etc is all really important in helping children develop their language skills. I didn't hear any more objections from him after that and DD loves her pushchair!

Thanks for the dollshouse link CSWS - just got a special offer there on the little cafe / hospital / bedroom play box sets which look really lovely.

About the arnica - Boots had tablets that were 6c or 30c - which ones would be better? Assuming the bigger dosage but thought I'd check!

YumMum22 · 05/08/2008 11:36

Hi all

Just trying to get my mind off things for a few weeks. spoke to SOM today and she says the hospital is interviewing new midwives so hopefully i might be getting my homebirth.

DH took me out shopping yesterday for the new baby and we got lots of bargains. "I bought this buggy" for £135 from a boots clearance store near me. Its was in perfect condition never used only a customer return, and this for £20 also new in packaging. and this for £50 what bargains???

rowanmac i know what you are talking about, ive been having those horrible pelvic pains.

accessorizequeen · 05/08/2008 12:13

Um, hullo all I've been absent for a while. 32 weeks tomorrow with the dt's and still here! Just chaotic, trying to do everything/buy everything before they arrive (should be tidying my kitchen right now...). I did pack hospital bags though by 30 weeks as really thought they ought to be done! Twins doing v.well, having scans every fortnight and no problems, excess fluid no longer an issue. Just waiting to see if first twin will be head down by 34 weeks, then I can go for natural birth.

Briefest of skims, I see several on here now have GD, hope it's all being managed as CSWS has done, breech babies are still not a worry yet are they as I think twin1 has turned again last night rats, arnica is a cream as well (I use it on ds1's constant bruises!) but in tablet form I was thinking of taking before labour. Haven't bought a buggy, car and waiting for cots to arrive from a friend so i can get some drawers to match. Piles and piles of cloth nappies purchased on MN waiting in the corner to be housed (so cute!).

Are leg cramps getting worse for anyone, I was up most of the night with them, agony but then I haven't been eating a banana a day and doing stretches before I go to sleep.

It's getting exciting isn't it? Can't wait to meet my little ones.

Jambers99 · 05/08/2008 12:51

Thanks for all your advice on buggies for boys, will see if I can persuade DH! Love the dolls house CSWS, I'm sure your DD will be thrilled.

Glad everything still going ok AQ and that the twins have stayed on the inside for now!

kookiegoddess · 05/08/2008 13:23

anyone having real trouble sleeping?

I heave myself into bed then read for ages, trying to find a position that doesn't hurt and doesn't annoy the baby - and then for the last few nights I've been waking in the middle of the night, totally unable to get back to sleep. and baby knows as soon as I'm awake and starts showing off with star jumps... then I end up over sleeping in the morning and feeling spaced out and rubbish till lunchtime. A very tedious pattern...

On the up side, am so excited to be in the final stretch and love having all the baby bits ready to go. I've put together the glider, pram and baby rocker and feeling quite smug!

pepperrabbit · 05/08/2008 13:35

I'm plagued by the leg cramps as well AQ. I have to get up at least once a night to stretch, hop, whimper quietly to myself. I can feel them beginning in the evenings now as well, and have no idea how bad they're going to get. Definitely worse third time round I have to say. Maybe I need to eat my banana later in the day?
Everyone seems very organised with the baby stuff! In my head it is still months away and we have done absolutely nothing!
Though I have thought about booking a TENS machine - does that count?

star6 · 05/08/2008 14:33

I hear you, Kookiegoddess... same here! But, I always wonder... when he's kicking, does that mean he's content or annoyed? I know I'm less annoyed when he's still at night
Good for you getting things ready and organized!!
I think morning sickness has returned... but only when I think about the birth

sambrads · 05/08/2008 14:38

oh my god yummum thats amazing what you got for so little money i would love a boots clearance store near me

i have been checking out the internet for a cheap bebe loola footmuff as they are £50 and i am getting one cause i want one not because i need it
any ideas were i can get one at a good price???

accessorizequeen · 05/08/2008 15:26

My goodness you're a chatty lot

I did read that quinine in tonic water is great for cramps, I must buy some! I was eating my banana b4 I went to bed & stretching calves for 5 mins, didn't have any problems but then got lazy! I had one in my thigh this morning, urgggh. The oven tray is getting a good workout, I may as well sleep with it

I can't sleep very well at all now, my bump is quite huge as you'd imagine and I have to wee every 2 hours anyway without the cramps. Most days I can manage a lie down of sorts & that keeps me going but today (ds's at mums) I felt so awful after cramps all night and then stomach cramps all morning I just went back to bed!

I've thought about booking a tens too pepperrabbit! But think they only hand them out at 36 wks by which time I'll have prob. given birth (I got one for £5 last time from local midwife team).

I have packed my bags, so I'll post the list of what I stuck in there. Camera was absolutely top of my list as I don't have photos of previous births coz dp & i forgot! I have started perineal massage as I live in hope of no tearing this time, but generally speaking it's advised to start at 36 weeks I think (rather than 31!)?

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 05/08/2008 15:36

how worth it are TENS machines? am hoping for a homebirth so won't be having an epidural unless I transfer, don't want pethadine so don't want to limit pain relief options anymore but have heard so many people saying they're not even sure if it worked...

AQ I thought we weren't supposed to drink quinine?? anyone else utterly bored of being at work and just want mat leave to start?

accessorizequeen · 05/08/2008 15:41

You're absolutely right, Girl, tonic water not recommended for pg (I was going to look it up before buying some!). If you're not having any other pain relief I'd consider TENS, fairly cheap to hire & if you don't like it just tear it off! I thought it was helpful for early labour which went on for quite a while with ds2 but ripped it off after proper contractions started.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/08/2008 16:25

I wasn't entirely convinced that the TENS did anything, but am too scared to try without just in case it did . Must ask neighbour if I can borrow hers again.

I am absolutely NOT organised with baby stuff pepper. I am in denial that there is actually anything to organise, and can't possibly consider it whilst building work is going on. Could be a problem as baby will be here before building works are finished!!

Hi all, hope you're all well. managed to pull a ligament/muscle in my groin today sprinting across the park to stop ds running onto road. He was playing 'chase me' but in the wrong direction and couldn't hear me screaming at him to stop as he was laughing so loud - hurts to move but fine when sit down or stand still so i think its a muscle strain. Am seeing doc tomorrow for 32 week appt so will ask her. I must have looked a sight sprinting at 7 months pregnany

Dr gave me iron tablets last week with same stuff in as floradix so don't have to buy it anymore thank goodness and no side-effects as yet (fingers crossed)

Annwoo - you can't use almond oil if you have allergies in the family. its fine for those that don't but dh is allergic to nuts and i used on ds when at baby massage without thinking that it was made of nuts - duh!!! [sleep deprivation and all that]. He came out in a terrible rash as well.. bad mother.

I have bought ds his present from baby as he has been drooling over postman pat set from woolworths for months - if i take him in he kneels in front of the box on the shelf and strokes it - bless [and it was half price!!]

Right off to make tea....

star6 · 05/08/2008 17:33

csws I'm in the midst of dh's diy at the moment! I know how you feel about being in the middle of building works...not so fun!

I think I pulled a muscle in my stomach today (?possible?). I went into my classroom and the cleaners had moved my furniture. I tried to push the teacher's desk back into place... not a good idea! I got a sharp pain on the lower left and still hurts a bit. I don't want to call the MW as I normally would because I know she'll just tell me I shouldn't have been moving heavy furniture!

annwoo · 05/08/2008 17:40

loulou - didn't think of the nut allergy! None of us allergic in this household, have them all eating peanut butter sandwiches here!

Pulled a muscle in my groin couple of weeks back - was sore for quite about a week. Hope yours isn't too painful. Always hectic running after children at this stage.

Anyone want to do a bump comparison?

This is mine yesterday at 29 weeks (30 weeks on Thur). I am sure i am much bigger than I was for first two at this stage (maybe the dates are wrong)!

I have had some spd pain and leg cramps recently (I usually wake up and am able to flex my ankles to prevent them) got a really bad one in my calf a couple of nights ago and was thumping dh awake at 3am screaming! Managed to sort it but it ached for the rest of the day. DD still wants picking up all the time and she weighs a friggin tonne!!!

Thank you for the advice on avoiding tears btw - I will try the massage technique and get some arnica in. Still going to be worrying about it though - labour I can handle - stitches - not so much

bigmouthstrikesagain · 05/08/2008 20:17

pic of bump is on my profile.
