Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
1sttimer80 · 28/08/2008 10:35

Wow you guys have been busy lol!!

Baby brain has got th ebetter of me and I can't remeber everything that I've just read!

Dear mother-in-law put me in panic last night when she was almost insisting she wanted to be in the labour ward with me. I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to get out of that one!! There's no way she's coming in!

Sambrads... sorry you haven't been feeling well, hope you feel betetr soon.

I think my midwife has forgotten about me... As some of you know, my baby had an obstruction of some sort in it's kidneys. I have nother scan in a couple of weeks time, but when I went to see the consultant they said they'd book me in, I was told to leave a note with the reciptionist and haven't heard anythign since. So will just get onto the phone with them in a minute to sort it out.

Also just wodnering, my hospital gave me these blood forms, which meant I had to go in at specified weeks to have blood samples taken. Does everyone stick to this?

Hospital bag is packed and waiting in the living room. I ended up packing two. One for labour and after labour, and another one that will sit in the car with going home home clothes for me and baby and 'just in case' things. I hope it will be enough!!

1sttimer80 · 28/08/2008 10:37

re childbirth bit like you bethoo, trying not to think about it, and deal with it when it comes!

star6 · 28/08/2008 10:52

good idea 1sttimer and bethoo... I'll go and get my maternity and nighttime pads and then just let it escape my mind until the time comes
I'm actually really enjoying being back at work after the summer holiday. My class is lovely and adorable and we're having so much fun together. I hope baby waits until at least his due date to arrive

SmudgeyDoodle · 28/08/2008 11:01

So many messages girls. Do you think we're all starting to panic? Things here fine and just chugging away. Whoever recommended the long pads reminded me that I found those best last time. Also, don't panic if you have a bit of a gush if you've been lying down and then get up (sorry, gross I know but I hadn't thought about it and panicked a bit)
Glad scans are ok and we are all generally holding it together. On my last ante-natal thread, someone had their DS at about 30 weeks so we've done well. I bet they all come thick and fast once we reach October.
I need to go and make a casserole or DS isn't going to have anything for his lunch when he gets up. Got dentist appointment at 2.30 today (hee hee) but worrying because I know that two of my teeth are falling apart and I really hate going to the dentist. Have to be all positive and smiley though as DS (18months) first proper visit and don't want him to catch on.

perkypopsy · 28/08/2008 11:16

32 days to go??!!???!!!!!!!!!!!!
10 days until full term
Just off to have a little sit down and breath YIKES!!!

perkypopsy · 28/08/2008 11:28

Juat had a read through all the messages - so many of them - have been taking notes - so much advice soming in from the second and third-timers! This shopping list looks really gross though - vaseline/maternity pads/arnica ughhhh

I've had a strange week as lots of my NCT friends are popping - I am at end of September so I'll be the last of them and maybe one of the first here?

11 days left at work....

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 28/08/2008 11:50

thanks for tips on maternity pads...have stocked up on three packs of sainsbury's ones so will now just get some night time normal ones...long ones sound like a good idea. ew, haven't worn pads in about 12 years!!

sambrands, how are you honey? don't think you've posted since your nasty scare, hope you're resting up and feeling better soon

am now confused about placenta injection - I'm hoping for a homebirth, do they not give it to you at home?

still undecided about VitK - we'll def give it to baby but don't know whether to do injection or orally...initial instinct is oral cos just don't like the thought of baby being injected so soon, but if it's less likely to work and actually more mean to do several oral doses, is injection better? god am NOT looking forward to having to make decisions on all the other immunisations...

booked a weekend away in a few weeks, just to the seaside for some DH and me time...

ajm200 · 28/08/2008 11:55

Girlwiththemouseyhair
They do give you the injection at home if you want it. They give you a list of drugs that you can ask your doctor for.

My son had the injection and didn't even notice. If you are worried, you can feed him while he is being injected as the distraction really helps.

Enjoy your weekend away, OH and I did the same before our son was born and I'm glad we did as your life will change so much when your baby arrives.

bethoo · 28/08/2008 12:08

i would opt for the injection as it only takes a second. it helps with blood clotting so helps prevent internal bleeding as some babies do not produce enough at birth so it is like a top up.
havign the placenta booster means that you can get cleaned up straightaway instead of lying in the waters etc and stuff waiting for the placenta to pass. you feel a littel tug and it is out!
i had this all last night but ds then kindly pressed something on my lap top and i lost it all. may get him his own fisherprice laptop to bang on as he is obsessed with mine!
lo is kicking vigourously.

perkypopsy · 28/08/2008 13:14

I didn't even know anything about vit k injections - what are they for? Blood clotting?

bethoo · 28/08/2008 13:16

yes helps the blood clot and prevents internal bleeding as some babies do not have enough of it at birth.

Sallypuss · 28/08/2008 13:21

Afternoon all

Have been lurking and not posting for a few days now. Bad sally.

sambrads hope you're starting to feel better with lots of liquid and lots of rest. Sounds like you've had a tough time.

star6 glad to hear that your scan went well (apart from the seeing stars part!) and hope your mind has been put at rest.

perky - so you've opted for Harlow too. Hope to hear that you have a great experience there. Have my fingers crossed for you.

All well here. 32 weeks today (hurray) and like everyone else, the realisation is starting to hit that there isn't long to go till we meet LO. DH painted the nursery last weekend (bless him - I didn't even have to pick up a paint brush!) - all we have to do now is order the furniture and I have to make the curtains . Other than that feeling reasonably organised (we have the EU nappy mountain at our house ready for LO's arrival).

Thanks for all the tips on maternity pads - so the 2 packs I've bought won't be enough then ?!

ajm200 · 28/08/2008 16:03

Could do with a few kind words right now as I have some major BHs and intermittent crampy backache and am only 32 weeks. Can't go to be checked out until after 6 as I need someone to look after DS.

Had this a few weeks ago along with a bloody show and ended up on the ward for the morning as they were preterm contractions and they were considering steriods to get the baby ready for the world.

I'd love to meet my little angel, but would rather she wasn't a tiny premmie for her sake. I need her to stay put for another 4 or 5 weeks ideally.

ajm200 · 28/08/2008 17:28

They are starting to ease off a bit so looks like another false alarm.. thank goodness.

LO is moving too so starting to relax again.

Sallypuss · 28/08/2008 17:54

ajm200 I have my fingers crossed that you have a BH-free evening. Hope you're going to get checked out anyway(?)

loulou33 · 28/08/2008 18:20

Hi all,
phew you have been busy since i last posted.

saw consultant for scan on Tues who said all measurements were ok apart from 2 borderline ones - so he phoned fetal medicine in glasgow. He then told me that he will scan me next weds and will deliver the baby no later than 37 weeks (that's 2 weeks away ) May have to have c-section but consultant prepared to induce me even though had previous section.

I was still getting my head around this when he siad that he'll have to ask local paediatrician if they want baby delivered in glasgow in case it needs specailist care That would mean i would have to go on my own as its 3 hour dirve away - great!!

Spoke to paediatrician that i know well and he said that he would reather i delivered here and 37 weeks is nearly term so local hospital would manage care fine. Baby will probably need phototherapy at first (so i'm having a small yellow baby then!!) Aparently rhesus sensitivity is so rare these days due to invention of anti-d that specialist units think they are the only ones that can handle it - grrr.

Anyway have finished work early (was due to stop end of next week) and will have to get cracking with the baby's stuff. Packing bag this weekend, putting crib together and generally panicking about next 2 weeks - baby will be here by 10th Sept aaaaaahhhhhhhhh

My son was born at 37 weeks and had jaundice but we were allowed to take him home as long as we promised that he'd get lots of natural sunlight, Even though it was winter we had him in his carrycot by the patio doors in just a vest and the heating on high.

Took about 3 weeks to go.

You'll cope just fine.

jenwa · 28/08/2008 19:32

loulou33 Wow, you must get your bags packed ready then!!!!! YOu may be the first!!!!! Fingers crossed all ok and you dont have to travel too far.

1sttimer80 NO WAY!!!! I would not want my MIL in there with me. You just have to say "NO"!!!! Strictly yourself and DH!!!!! When I had dd I was meant to have home birth but ended up in hosp and my MIL wanted to come up. I was as I told family the reason I wanted home birth was to be on our own and ready for visitors when we wanted! I would want my mum over MIL (I do get on with her so not that she is a bad person or anything!) She wanted to support her son but I NEEDED HIM!!!! Anyway, does she need to know when you go in? I am going to try keeping quiet although last time my mum rang her so this time I think my mum knows not too!!!! It all depends when and where it happens as will need care for DD!!!!
I am getting excited as have 2 weeks after this week left at work and only work 2 days so actually have 5 days left and also DH showed me his achievment in the loft and I am keeping everything crossed it will get finsished ready for DD to go up there.

annwoo · 28/08/2008 19:35

loulou Deep breath, everything will be fine!

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/08/2008 20:22

Blimey ladies - between loulou, ajm and Aitch (not on this thread, but due in Oct and prob giving birth any day) you're really demonstrating how imminent the births could be! Wishing much luck to you all.

Dentist for us too tomorrow Smudgey. How did you get on?

V tired today. Was verging on falling asleep on hard living room floor this afternoon whilst playing with dd. Was awake for 2 hours from 4:15 this morning - very frustrating. Luckily dd didn't get up til 7:30 so I managed a little more sleep afterwards.

loulou33 · 28/08/2008 20:34

Thanks all,

Ajm - i wish they would let me do that but because of the anaemia its unlikely they will let me take him/her away for a while. Reassuring to know your son was ok at 37 weeks though How big was he? I have bought some smaller babygros today (up to 7lbs) just in case but won't open bags until baby has arrived just in case.

DH is freaking out and panicking about not being ready (he's working next week running an exhibition and is supposed to be the following week but i think he'll have to rearrange although he's self-employed so could be tricky). Bizarrely my mother had arranged to come and visit for a few days from 8th to 12th and had booked train tickets for that week already so we have help on hand for ds which is one less thing to panic about. i was worried about who would look after him at short notice if i wen into labour as nearest fmaily is 3 hours away so i guess every cloud has a silver lining!!

ps is there a prize for being first???
suggestions please........[wine would be good!!]

bigmouthstrikesagain · 28/08/2008 20:37

Blimey it is all getting a bit 'real' here - I like Bethoo want to avoid the reality - but at the same time I am planning a hb (if the baby turns around) and I ordered my Tens machine at Tesco's today.

Hope Sambrads is feeling better - sounds horrid. Good luck to Lou and ajm.

I have gone from very happy to majorly pissed off today - as I received one of my weekly offer letters from la Redoute and on route to the recycling I read it and saw they were offering iPods to the first 150 callers with a telephone order. I rang in expecting to be disappointed but was told I had won one and that it would arrive in 7-10 days. The this evening they ring to say that an error has been made and the comp starts tomorrow.

I really think they should honour their mistake - I was not the only one! I have started a dreaded am I being unreasonable thread on the subject. They really shouldn't mess with a pg lady - I may have to go down to La redoute head office and sit on the MD!!!!

loulou33 · 28/08/2008 20:40

Sorry ajm i missed your previos posts, hope the pains have gone and you can have a relaxing evening.

I had a similar thing when i ws 32 weeks with ds. i had backache and BHs(caused by uti although i didn't know at the time) and pains got really bad, was admitted for 24hours to rest and take cranberry juice tablets to get rid of uti. i was having very regular contractions for 12 hours or so and luckily he stayed put but it was scary at the time...fingers crossed for you
