I could use a Cuba Libre (bacardi & coke). So if anyone's interested....I'll be in the naughty corner getting sloshed.

Have slept most of the day. I believe this is my attempt to do everything that's NOT on the old-wives-tale list.

PF I'll probably be one of those that ties her sling on in the morning and leaves it on all day....I'm a busy mom (when in full mom mode and not pregnant mode).

whiskey on the rocks, please barman...hold the whiskey please!

shazza birthing ball? all fours? don't you have to have 7pineapples to get enough of the enzyme? ooo make sure it;s fresh too. the sex thing is for 2reasons, first is if you orgasm your uterus contracts, 2nd to get prostiglandin on your cervix through sperm, however many dr's say this is better absorbed through the stomoach......you've got a lucky dh tonight

ataraxis · 05/08/2008 20:34

bealcain - dr's or dh's???

and what i want to know about this 7 pineapple thing is - 7 pineapples in one go or (eg) one a day for a week?

mmm I am thinking dh might just get lucky tonight - my sex drive (well, intention) has gone into overtime at the mo, it is just that tiredness and or awkwardness of position often seem to win

Bealcain, sex without an orgasm never happens in this house Not for me anyway Yes I'm selfish, and pregnancy gives me a valid reason to be

bealcain · 05/08/2008 20:37

dh! unless your partial to a dr or 2 for oral consumption of sperm (my cons is pretty fit!)

pineapples - all in one go, or at least in a 12hour period...they have to be fresh! can't remember what enzyme they contain, but it's said to bring on contractions. gave me really bad heartburn with ds2!!

bealcain · 05/08/2008 20:38

just re-read OP.....some doctors say it;s better absorbed through stomach....so lots of lucky husbands...

miamla · 05/08/2008 20:38

shazza, your DH is going to probably love me for suggesting this but have you tried erm how do i put this, drinking his special juice?

PF so do they only leak when i'm feeding from the other one? i hadn't worked that out yet so thank you! looks like i'll be investing in some breast shells!

bealcain · 05/08/2008 20:40

miamla they can leak (in the beginning) if you;re just thinking about your baby. mine used to leak even hearing another baby crying

bealcain · 05/08/2008 20:40

Shazza2002 · 05/08/2008 20:43

I am very selfish so don't think I could do that, would prefer to tell him something like "Darling, we have 2 options, me drinking your 'special juice' OR me having multiple orgasms, now you can proove how much you love me and get to work"

PetitFilou1 · 05/08/2008 20:44

Miamla No, that's not the only time but once my let down got going on the side the baby was on, the other side gushed at the same time and that was the worst time for leaking- sticking a breast shell on the side you aren't using saves the breast pads getting soaked through!

Bealcain is right, they will also leak if you hear a baby cry (even if not your own baby) to start with

lol at 'special juice'. I must have the only dh in the land who isn't that keen on blow jobs (very happy about that emoticon)

miamla · 05/08/2008 20:49

sazzles drink of choice is most definitely newcastle brown ale!

pf my DP makes up for your DH then, he's very keen!

miamla · 05/08/2008 20:51

other babies crying do it as well? good grief! i'm wearing ear plugs next time i go to mothercare! no wonder i ended up getting drenched!

i've always been quite lucky, i've never felt my let-down reflex althouh it;s obviously always occurred. some women get tingly, i had nothing until my tops were soaked through!

i really miss breastfeeding cant wait to do it again. was just chatting with dh about how nice it is whne they sleep on your chest and little things like that...getting so broody for it.

can't see latest stats but is anyone else in line for a 08/08/08 baby or is it just me?

miamla · 05/08/2008 21:04

i can really feel my let down. its like when you don't know if something is hot or cold and really tingling

and absolutely agree about him cuddling on my chest

miamla · 05/08/2008 21:06

random thoughts from a post i started typing days ago and never put on here...might help a first-timer

not sure who it was, petitfilou maybe? said that difference between real contractions and BHs is that real contractions hurt. i didn't find that. it would appear that my contractions started Friday morning but didn't actually start hurting until late on Tuesday. Just my two penneth worth for those still in the waiting room!

it really is true about what people say about hospital bags! we used pretty much everything in Theo's bag, don't think we got anything out of the labour bag (but this was mainly because i wasn't allowed to eat..what on earth was that about? ended up having to go on a drip because they found ketones in my wee..no shit! i kept telling them i was feeling light headed from not eating!
And the bag i had for my stay in hospital... hmm, i used the shower gel, towel, bricks, toothbrush and coming home clothes (for me). But with hindsight, if I had been in the hospital longer than 15hrs after birth, I think most of it would have been used (spare pjs, vest tops). Oooh one thing I did forget to put in that i needed was a hairbrush!

as for my birth plan.... hmm, we had one and the lovely mw who delivered T followed it to the letter (as did my two out of this world birth partners...no idea how i'm ever going to get them to realise how much I love them both for what they did yesterday, anyway, I won't get soppy!). And there's a but! one of the nurses came in at some point and said "right, i see we have on the plan that X Y and Z are happening". She received 3 loud no's from us! it turned out that she was talking about doctor's plan not ours So, advice to first timers...make sure everyone is actually talking about the same plan!

DP used to talk to my bump alot and now Theo's here, DP's voice really seemed to calm him down when he was complaining at been taken away from me after birth to get weighed and measured. I'm sure the two must be connected. It does mean though that I'm going to have to record him talking for when he goes back to work! Talking of which, does anyone else's partner's company have a bizarre pat leave policy? DP can only start pat leave on a Monday. So fine if a baby is born at the weekend but not much help to the others!

not sure if i said in my other post but try to get your birth partner to remind you about the end goal. i found it was easy to focus on the pain niggles and regular reminders really helped refocus

Nice Miamla. All of what you've written is totally ON and very good for those first timers as well as those of us who've had some TIME since their last birth.

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 05/08/2008 21:43

Okay I've just eaten a bowl of chili, trying to keep with the spicy food idea. And now I'm eating freshly sliced watermelon that tastes absolutely dreamy. Surely this is all good for pushing one into labour.

OP posts:
miamla · 05/08/2008 21:47

i did mean to write more but hmm that was a few days ago and i cant remember now what it was!

well i was starved and i was sick so their little plan didnt work at all!

BJs are now referred to as "special kisses" in our house. we dont want DS to work out what we're talking about

PetitFilou1 · 05/08/2008 21:52

miamla Agree with sazzles that is a helpful post. As for the contractions, well just my experience but then I do have fast labours (so far) so I guess the painful part kicks off for me earlier on in the equation! As for Theo recognising dp's voice - they definitely do and I'm expecting this one to recognise his brother and sister's voices too as they have certainly been pretty vocal around him! dd used to noticeably settle down when I sang Baa Baa Black Sheep too as I had sung that to ds at bedtime all through my pregnancy with her. Am a bit at them not letting you eat - I never wanted to so it wasn't an issue but maybe in case you needed a cs??

Anyway, dh still not home but as I can hear the tumbleweed rolling this way I shall leave you all to it. It is definitely quieter here now that some of the regulars have got better things to do - unsurprisingly!
