Just popped in to say GOOD LUCK to those in progress...

and to let you know that when i have time later i will tell you the most birthing story, that you can read how you like, but i read it as very positive about the natural ways of birth (pf, was going to wait until after you had LO, but decided it was a positive story anyway and to just keep you all in suspense for a while today and let you know later ).

Gotta go (really).

Hope everyone is well and everything goes safely today.

alittlebitshy · 01/08/2008 11:36

Congrats chacha
Yay cavey baby jerry comes today - wow!!!

Glad you had a better night ilana - ours was pretty ok too...

VintageGardenia · 01/08/2008 11:37

Oooh come back soon ataraxis!

cyteen · 01/08/2008 11:37

Morning all,

Good luck gigglegirl - your DCs sound so sweet! And good luck CC as well, how exciting for both of you.

pg1 your birth plan looks pretty similar to mine (so obviously I approve )

Massive congratulations to ChaCha, glad to hear everything went so well

Commiserations to FHLH re. the pox Really hope you get to speak to your mw - is there a community team you could call if she's not around?

I'm definitely in the miserable corner this morning - feeling very sorry for myself and tired of everything being such a fucking struggle. I am really anxious and vulnerable all the time at the moment, which is not like me at all, and the last two nights I've had constant anxiety dreams whenever I've managed to get to sleep. Then I wake up feeling knackered, struggle to get back to sleep, and when I do I'm straight back into bad dreams. Woke up this morning feeling thoroughly pissed off.

Dragged myself to the quack's for a GBS swab - the nice nurse there says "so you saw the mw on Wednesday and apparently you have thrush...she wants to do a swab, but to be honest it will probably just confirm thrush." So I have to point out that I want to be tested for GBS, because that is what she suggested it might be and I do not want to take any risks.

Then I see the GP, at mw's request. "What can I do for you?" I tell him the mw wanted me to see him, despite not actually needing anything specific from him. I also ask if he can prescribe me Spatone instead of iron tablets because I can't face being this massive AND constipated as well. He fobs me off and tells me to give the tablets a try.

Sorry, I know this is all totally minor and stupid, but things are just getting on top of me a bit. I've been so strong over the last few years and every now and then I get a bit sick of being a grown up. After my mw being so dismissive of homebirths on Wednesday, I just feel like shouting "Will one of you fuckers actually listen to me for five minutes and credit me with a bit of intelligence?"

I miss my brother and I'm tired of feeling vulnerable

VintageGardenia · 01/08/2008 11:40

VintageGardenia · 01/08/2008 11:50

cyteen hugs to you.

Listen, I know EXACTLY what you mean about sometimes you get sick of being a grown up. You have to carry everything, and make decisions, and keep strong for other people, and be the person everyone expects you to be, and so on and so on. When you're pregnant, if you're normally the strong, self-reliant type, used to being efficient and capable, it's a real shock to discover there are things you can't do, and that you are vulnerable and prone to tears and need a lot of reassurance, and feel physically so different and un-able a lot of the time. This is what I have found, anyway - I hope I am not assuming too much in thinking this is the kind of thing you mean.

In relation to your specific problem about the iron tablets vs. Spatone, I suggest you phone the GP and say "You remember I was in with you earlier, well I've been thinking about the tablets etc and I've decided I would like to give Spatone a try, so could you do me up a prescription after all? I can drop by and collect it."

If - which is unlikely, I'd imagine - he says No - then can you call the hospital and ask if you can get a script from them instead?

Cheer up, ducky. You feel rotten now but it will pass. You are starting a gorgeous family with your partner, who always sounds lovely & very supportive from your posts, this is a whole new phase of your life and the beginning of a great adventure. You have a fabulous baby on the way who will bring a whole new meaning to the world for you. You have been incredibly strong through tough times and this is your gift now.

CONGRATS CHACHA!!

Congratulations ChaCha
Does he have a name yet ?

VintageGardenia · 01/08/2008 11:54

How's Henry today albs?

Dozymare · 01/08/2008 11:57

just clicked onto your thread accidentally - I am due in Nov 08...have to say I am MOST impressed at your stats list!!!!!!! Someone is very very organised!!!!!!!!

Good luck to you all!!!!

poppysocks · 01/08/2008 11:58

Congratulations ChaCha! So you and Dizzy were both right with your hunches about your LO's genders. How's it going choosing a name? Can't wait to hear how you all are.

Sorry you're feeling so rough cyteen. It's such an intense time and it's not surprising that relatively small things are getting to you, particularly when you're still dealing with the loss of your brother. Would chocolate help? Am sure the baby would appreciate an afternoon on the sofa with a big bar .

cyteen · 01/08/2008 12:06

Thanks VG, you have made me cry but in a nice way.

You've totally nailed my emotional state, I am used to being strong and self-reliant and it is a shock to feel so vulnerable...not something I expected at all. Maybe it's a good thing in some ways, I think a person can be too hard-shelled and know I am prone to this (it's a family trait), but it's still unsettling.

I know I'll feel better soon, once the whoremoans switch back to happy brand

And thanks poppysocks too, I suspect you're spot on about the sofa/chocolate cure...baby has been getting too much salad recently

sarahnh · 01/08/2008 12:16

hooray for ChaCha!!!

Good luck CC, lucky girl jumping the queue...

Massive Hugs Cyteen and huge bar of chocolate is definitely in order...

Hope you DS feels better soon VG....

I am still getting loads of niggles this am and also and a massive TMI here ( but if i cannot disclose here where can i) i have been having loads of discharge.. its disgusting,(long and stringy).. is this a sign of labour??? I am so sorry to ask particulary at lunchtime xxx

AnnVan · 01/08/2008 12:22

cyteen - {{{HUGS}}} here's to you! I think itsok to need help in pg, but I guess if you're used to being strong etc it does come as a shock to feel so vulnerable. Do you mind i I'm a bit nosy and ask what happened to your brother -if you do mind feel free to give me aslap and tell me to mind my own business

It's really nice not to see my name at the end of the list anymore
Although tbh I know I'll probably be the last person left on ante-natal thread watching the tumbleweed blow past, while you all cuddle little baby people.

bigboydiditandranaway · 01/08/2008 12:37

congratulations CC & DD i'm still waiting!! still only 3days over so may have a bit longer to wait yet it's a bit like being the first in the que to do something/go on a scarry ride

cyteen when my emotions get too much for me i find swimming helps or lots of treats

oopsacoconut · 01/08/2008 12:46

CYTEEN Hugs to you - just keep in mind that it's only a day - tomorrow will be better.

CC YIPPEEEEE hopefully by now you are holding your little Jerry in your arms.

Annvan I'll be here with you watching the tumbleweed go by in early september.

Went to MW this morning not my ususl one but a nice one with a student. Had normal checks bp fine, bubs still head down 4/5 engaged, we talked birth plans and student was very unimpressed with nice green form as there was no place for non medical info - like DH cutting cord etc.... So she wrote all over their form giving my preferences - i also gave her a copy of my own typed out plan. Apparently they try and kick you out asap once delivered and now have a no transfer policy to MW led unit - she gave me the MLU number and told me to call them direct and they will arrange transfer once i'm ready. So feeling better about getting feeding sorted and not having to go home at t hurs post delivery.

CHACHA Congratulations on the safe arrival of your little boy. Now he just needs a name!

All those with bubas already - how are you getting on? Keep us updated.

VintageGardenia · 01/08/2008 12:47

I feel fairly ok today but I think I'll crack open a bit of choc myself, too. Let's declare it Chocolate Friday.

sarah I have the same errm thing as you believe this to be a show, which can be creamy or greeny or streaked with blood or very bloody but in consistency is recognisable by being sort of jellyish or egg-whitey. So that would be your mucous plug coming away, or part of it anyway, yes definitely a sign that things are happening.

I also think I had waters leakage last night, but nothing more than BH this am.

oopsacoconut · 01/08/2008 12:48

CYTEEN Don't forget dark chocolate id FULL of nice easily absorabable (is that a word????) iron so keep eating lots of it.

AnnVan · 01/08/2008 12:56

Oops - where are you having yours? I posted a thread asking about Medway Maritime, where I'll be going, and got a couple of very encoraging replies, so that's put my mind at ease about that one. If I'd stayed in London, I'd probably have gone for a home birth, because no way was I willing to have a baby at Newham General (horrible)
I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow!

Buckets · 01/08/2008 13:11

Cyteen, def worth investing in high quality 70% chocolate for the iron content. Plus lots of prunes and apricots & OJ for both iron and constipation. Prune juice is quite tasty in small doses. Keep pushing for the homebirth kit, I suspect she tries to fob off everyone the same way - the 'lots of other people due the same time' line sounds very unscientific given the 5wk window of term-ness. . Re the vulnerability, I had a total identity crisis with my 1st pregnancy - Mrs Never Ill suddenly becomes invalid with m/s and fatigue, really missed my DH even though he was there because pregnancy was just something I couldn't totally share with him, felt v lonely without my little construct of him in my head talking to me iyswim. It all got better after DD was born, we were both back to square one on the looking after a baby front.

AnnVan · 01/08/2008 13:16

Ok, have been procrastinating for the last hour, must go and have ashower, as MIL is coming round at 2 and were walking in to Rochester. Then we'll be going to the hospital to visit the Maternity whatsits. WHy? Am I having a baby. Naaaah, ages left to go. Am in denial.
