Wow - you ignore the computer for about a week and a whole new enormous thread appears. Hello again everyone .

buckles ditto regarding the boobs. I my ordinary life I'm a 32F, when breastfeeding headed up to a J cup!! Looking forward to one day getting my own boobs back. I've only just finished bf-ing DS (it was agony at the end - v sensitive pg nipples) and only 5 months from starting again!

I'm over 17 weeks and still don't think I can feel any kicking. I'm sure I could with DS at this stage. Now getting myself worried (but am seeing MW tomorrow so hopefully will be reassured).

LooseyC · 28/07/2008 11:48

Hi - sure will be fine blot, a lot depends on positioning and where the placenta is - I think if it's at the front you won't feel movement so soon.

Has anyone tried those heartbeat doppler devices by the way? Any good? I', wondering if one would make me more or less paranoid.

buckles hope you grow to like your new shape.. it is all worth it though isn't it? I put on 2 stone last time (me, not baby!) and didn't get a chance to lose it so think I'm going to be massive - but don't care anymore as long as healthy. We can all diet once it's over (well, in theory!)

And for those of you with new big boobs I am jealous. I presumed that I would get something but think I've gone from a AAA to a (wait for it ) AA. In the right light. Maybe. If I look from the right angle...

tinkisagracefulshamu · 28/07/2008 11:52

hi

spink i had terrible headaches all the time a few weeks ago seem to have gone now hopefully yours will soon 2, it is all those mean hormones.
buckles dont worry about weight gain everyone is different.
loosey i have an englesounds doppler it is great really worth it got it on babymad £27 gr8 to hear heartbeat and very reasurring

Spink · 28/07/2008 12:02

thanks missj and tink - I am drinking water as I type (well nearly) and hoping these pesky headaches shift soon.

Blot I think the movement thing at this stage is really hit & miss - I thought I had movements a couple of weeks ago, but have had nothing for a week or so - I agree with loosey, could just depend on placenta and position the bub is in, and the state of one's digestive system (I think my windiness and bloat may be covering up any baby feelings at the mo)
You'll get movements soon enough I'm sure! And then there'll be a time when we all want a break from being kicked

tokentotty · 28/07/2008 12:05

Sigh...another one with the headaches, the sore boobs etc. It's just all glamorous fun this pg lark isn't it . I'm the same as you Loosey, was carrying 2 stone from last baby when I fell with this one so am dreading what I'll be like in the end. Have stated clearly that there's no way I'll be pregnant again next year. Two in 16 or so months is enough for the time being - I need a break and at least one drunken birthday !

booksgalore lol at 'mode of delivery' - first class or standard postage? makes it all sound very simple

elkiedee · 28/07/2008 14:14

I finally got the good news this morning - initial results from CVS are clear for Downs, Edwards and Patau - the full report will take another two weeks. Now I can start thinking about maternity clothes - as first time round, ordinary bras are feeling quite uncomfortable and you're not really meant to wear underwires.

fourlittlefeet · 28/07/2008 14:17

Just found out my blocked nose and recurring cold is in fact... wait for it...

Pregnancy Rhinitis.

Wonderful.

I think there is someone somewhere sitting there planning special illnesses to inflict on us. As if getting fat, having no sleep, and dodgy boobs weren't enough. Then again, we can eat what we want, always demand a seat, and get out of anything as its too taxing.

Actually on the weight front, all the larger ladies (those who were big during pregnancy/those who didn't diet and try and get the weight off immediately) had the most milk and the easiest time breastfeeding. So in my mind that is definitely a boon as plenty of milk = happy, sleepy baby.

now, wheres that chocolate cake....

fourlittlefeet · 28/07/2008 14:23

oooh something else weird has happened.

last time I had food aversions, mainly around gritty things so couscous, salad leaves, spinach; anything with a gritty texture or that may not have been washed to remove anything that could be crunchy but still was.

this time it looks like I'm off pasta. thats quite a shocker!

Anyone else started their cravings/aversions yet?

tokentotty · 28/07/2008 14:27

You know what, I didn't get any cravings last time and was so disappointed !! Was really looking forward to something interesting but nope, nothing at all. Am not on the other hand envious of your new ailments Flf !! I just get nosebleeds all the time which is definitely a pita.

MrsMagpie · 28/07/2008 14:28

Hi all,

I sympathise with all the headaches because I've been enjoying them as well. A woman in my office got me all worried that it was pre-eclampsia which I now know is highly unlikely. In the end I called the midwife unit who told me not to worry take some paracetamol and drink water. Apparently it's just dehydration and it's worse because of the weather. I still get them but i find as long as i drink a glass first thing and always have something to drink with me I can keep them at bay. Does mean even more trips to the little girls room.

I'm also getting ligament pain. This is such fun I don't know why I didn't do it sooner

fourlittlefeet · 28/07/2008 15:08

Token, the nosebleeds sound pretty horrid.

with the headaches thing, make sure its not constipation either as that can cause headaches... eat that muesli and some dried fruit to keep it all moving.

also for those that don't mind doing exercise at home (handy when you can't face going out), I use the ministry of sound chillates dvd (yoga/dance & pilates). like any class it takes a bit of getting used to to get the moves 'down', but I find it fab... gentle but my god do feel it!

elkiedee · 28/07/2008 15:17

I ate loads of pasta and then went off it a lot in my last pregnancy. I've never really started eating it again as a staple.

My most common cravings are for fruit and crisps. Fortunately we live in an area of London with a vast selection of fresh fruit on sale. And though I worry about my eating habits being passed on in the womb, ds loves his fruit as much as the chips. I've said to dp that if we eat things he shouldn't have, we need to keep it out of his sight.

tokentotty · 28/07/2008 15:23

Ah they're not too bad just sooo inconvenient when you're trying to get out of the shower. Very hard to hold your nose, turn the shower off, put a towel on and keep an 11 month year old out of the water !! I'll take them over the horrendous hormone headaches that's for sure.

I got a Wii fit for my birthday the other week - if only I had the time to actually use it I'd try the yoga etc on that !

fourlittlefeet · 28/07/2008 15:23

elkie any news yet?

elkiedee · 28/07/2008 15:25

Yes, thank you flf, see my post here at 14:14 today. It's good news.

fourlittlefeet · 28/07/2008 15:26

oooh we don't have a tv, but wouldn't mind a wii. do you need to have a box for it? maybe a projector would be better?

Spink · 28/07/2008 15:41

elkiedee, glad it's good news and you can relax a bit.

I've just had my mw appt, she was lovely, and also said the headaches are most likely dehydration. She reminded me PARTICULARLY BECAUSE THIS WILL BE A SECOND BABY that I need to do kegels a lot or, not to mince words, I will be incontinent a lot. Her hint is to do 5 of them every time you've finished having a wee, and hold each one to a count of 5.
I feel it is my duty to pass this on, as someone who does occasionally leak during a big sneeze.

And I heard Pip's heartbeat! How lovely was that!!!
She told me that it is totally normal for second timers not to feel movement until AT LEAST 17 weeks+ (1st timers nearer to 20), and that it's normal too to have movement and then have nothing for a bit.. so we're ok, blot

right. I'm off to have a snooze.

tinkisagracefulshamu · 28/07/2008 15:57

i have a sore, croky, throat and cough plus stuffy news joys
gr8 news elk
how exciting spink

tokentotty · 28/07/2008 16:18

Oh Spink, how depressing to have those little reminders about the old pelvic floor... When I saw my midwife the other week and she pointed out that I'd get bigger and heavier much quicker as my stomach muscles weren't recovered from the last time I felt pretty much the same as you !

You know what FLF, I reckon that the Wii fit board might well work through a projector, although you do have to ahve the Wii console as well. I'm sure DH and his pals used to wire up their playstation or whatever it was through a projector and play almost lifesize football on our living room wall....

fourlittlefeet · 28/07/2008 16:34

spink, like the tip, thanks
elkie, we cross posted twice today so didn't see your news, then the post about the news . Congratulations, that is fabulous.

hmm. adds wii to xmas list. and projector. and speakers.

iwouldgoouttonight · 28/07/2008 16:41

Wow - this thread is huge - I've lost track of whats going on!

I'm going for my second MW appt tomorrow - really looking forward to hearing the heartbeat (they can hear it at 15 weeks can't they?) Is this when they will give me the results of the blood tests for Down's, etc? I can't remember from last time and everyone seems to get different tests depending on where you live. Would they have called me already if there was a high risk?

I can't believe how much being pregnant makes me worry! I get something into my head and then I spend the next few days worrying about there being something wrong with the baby. The last few days I've had a sore throat and managed to convince myself that meant I had something seriously wrong with me that could hurt the baby! I remember this from being pregnant the last time - the doctor refered me to a counsellor because I was getting so anxious, but the counsellor gets so booked up I didn't get the appointment until after DS was born!

mel2005 · 28/07/2008 18:23

blooming marvellous have ALL 40% off nursery, bedroom and toys. You need to put in code NTS4.
they also have royce nursing bras for £5, i bought quite a few as they are really comfortable and better than bravado.
i also bought 4 mamas and papas bouncers (which worked out to be almost £21 each) and an angelcare movement and sound monitor. it has saved me a fortune.

Spink · 28/07/2008 20:04

you are a shopping goddess, mel!
Don't suppose I can hire you for a few hours??!
I think I'm going to have to leave my shopping til the last minute (ish) because I'm still hoping we'll move house before bub comes and would rather buy once we're there..

Iwouldgoouttonight my mw said today that at 16 weeks you can normally hear a heartbeat, but because baby is still pretty teeny, if s/he is hiding behind the placenta, or just doing a bit of a dance, it might not get picked up. I guess it'll be similar at 15 weeks - so try not to get your heart set on it, and if you hear it, it'll be a Brucie bonus!
Fraid I don't know about the Downs etc screening cos we decided not to do it.. sure someone will come along soon and tell you tho

tokentotty - and squuuueeeeze to the count of 5..... the good side was, so m-wifey said, that because our muscles are more lax second time round, baby is less likely to get stuck on the way down and pop out more quickly!
