morning

sure i have felt baby move 2 ms sparkle
15 and a half weeks

missjackson · 27/07/2008 09:32

Chefswife, I like your shopping plans! I think I'm in the last-minute camp too -- will see what I get given, and then buy everything else in the xmas sales when I am huge.

I've been having the most intense, colourful dreams -- wake up positively exhausted from weird adventures. Last night I managed to lose this cute fluffy grey kitten that was supposed to be mine; doesn't take a genius to translate that into general baby anxiety!

MsSparkle · 27/07/2008 10:28

Tink that's great you feel the baby move too

fourlittlefeet · 27/07/2008 11:38

morning!

am very jealous re goat. would love one. and a cat. and chickens. oh well, pretty happy with a baby and a bump too.

DD slept in her travel system basinette until 2 months, then in a travel cot and at 4 months went straight into the cot bed as she kept flipping herself out of the travel cot when rolling onto her side (it was one of those koodi pop up things on the floor- bad move actually as too hard and made her head a funny shape for a bit - all fine now 0.

Anyway... very happy in the cotbed (it was free from my sis and I used the same mattress). I am planning to dismantle in Feb, move her into the bottom one of a pair of bunks, then put back up when DC2 is four months. They are chunky old things, but DD sleeps fantastically in it and shes the sort of baby that hated being swaddled and once she stopped sleeping with her arms above her head in new born position, she started sleeping in an aeroplane with arms straight out to the sides. odd child.

fymandbean · 27/07/2008 14:20

I don't think there is a right answer to cot/cotbed/bed debate....

DS was in his cot quite happily from 4 months to 2.5 years then went into a bed (in fact he was in both for a while, choosing each night - we finally took down the cot when he went a week in the bed). I regretted buy a cotbed until that point as he was very 'nervous' about going into a bed and letting him have the choice was perfect which you couldn't have done with a cotbed....the sides are either on or off and a huge faff to change!

Similarly we had planned to have DC2 when DS was 2 but life intervened and he will be 3 when DC arrives! if we had done this I would have ended up buying 2 cots as DS wouldn't have been ready to leave his cot....

As it is, it worked out well, I wouldn't bother with the moses basket this time though just put DC straight in the cot in our room - they are too small/crap quality.

My advice...well if you're going to have the next kid

LenniEd · 27/07/2008 14:22

Morning! (ish) What a lovely day! My two dogs are laid flat out on their sides in the sun fast asleep, I think they have missed the sun!

And my veg are almost ready to pick so am feeling very smug today that I actually managed to grow something - just wait though, the slugs and caterpillars will raid overnight and my smugness will evaporate!

Hope everyone is well.

I can see why aeroplane arms would demand a cotbed! DD used to sleep in the baby pose with her arms above her head - I tried it once since it looked so comfy - had dead arms for an hour the next day

Whatever you buy baby gear wise you will manage with it and some bits you'll love and some bits you'll not use very much. There really is no predicting is there. I like the idea of co-sleeping in a single bed though - that is one I have never heard before!

tinkisagracefulshamu · 27/07/2008 16:57

dd is still in a cotbed goes up to age 5 so will stay in till then or when we move might put new baby into cot and buy dd a new bed
it is so hot i hate it

MsSparkle · 27/07/2008 18:52

My bump is getting bigger and bigger! I was just saying to dp, i still have another 23 weeks to go and i am gonna be huge!

Do anyone else have giant nipples now? Mine seem to have doubled in size

stripeywoollenhat · 27/07/2008 19:29

hi mssparkle - nipples haven't doubled in size exactly, but they have gotten very pink. breasts have do seem to have doubled though, and as they weren't exactly small to begin with, i am starting to feel slightly obscene....

i am having a scan this week, which should help to keep me focused on the reason for all these alarming physical changes rather than thinking about the changes themselves.

Periwink · 27/07/2008 19:33

Hi - good to have some good weather this weekend - anyone else stuggle to cope with the heat?

missjackson · 27/07/2008 20:45

Yes, I think we should all give ourselves a congratulatory pat on the back for being just a little bit pregnant in this heat rather than HUGE -- I keep seeing very big bumps everywhere, and those poor ladies look HOT and uncomfortable. Isn't it funny how when you're pregnant suddenly there are babies and pregnant ladies EVERYWHERE?

LooseyC · 27/07/2008 21:19

Hello - what fab weather.. been out all weekend so not on line. I hate to say it though but it's getting a bit much now - our house is BOILING tonight, probably won't get much sleep.

Mel - thanks loads for the buggy advice btw, I'll keep a look out on ebay for a black carrycot - I am now a bidding convert, might become a dangerous habit!

fourlittlefeet · 27/07/2008 21:39

Loosey, get auction stealer

Lenni, still grinning at the thought of you trying out the baby arms sleep position! it does look comfy though.

Soooo hot hot hot.

chefswife · 28/07/2008 02:55

all this cot talk at least gives me an idea of what i should be looking for or things to think about the purchase because we'll be moving into our own place by the time we need to purchase it. i'm not keen on co-sleeping at night but for nap times. i feel in my heart that i need to separate nap/cuddly time from night sleeping.

ms sparkle my breasts are milk monsters at 34DD (am having new bras taken in because i can't find any in the actual size) and my usually nice pink, perfectly proportion nipples have become tan in colour and the size of cookies. good grief. are babies mouths bigger than i think. the other day, while cruising through the grocery store, DH says, 'oh, i think that guy just caught me checking out his girlfriends tits.' i said 'that's ok. i just caught him looking at mine'. they are certainly attracting attention.

DH had to remind me this morning that we go for our first scan tomorrow. very excited. can't believe it slipped my mind.

Periwink · 28/07/2008 05:32

Chefswife - good luck for the scan today.

Yes I agree everyone seems to be pregnant at the moment and would really not be too happy being anything over 7 months pregnant in the heat yesterday. I had my first full night sleep last night - did not get up once to go to the toilet ... hurray!

My breasts have doubled in size and yes nipples are the size of saucers .... for someone who is usually quite tiny and to suddenly have these bazookas is quite an experience but enjoying the bigger breasts and yes they are definitely getting attention!

17 weeks and 2 days today. Time is flying ...

tinkisagracefulshamu · 28/07/2008 08:53

I keep catching myself staring at pregnant women thinking, "I can't imagine every being that big..." They probably don't appreciate my stares

New babies also. I try to figure out what kind of sling they are in or what kind of pram. Must seem like an utter freak!

buckles · 28/07/2008 09:29

Morning ladies, I hope that you all had a great weekend.
Have a question. I did not gain any weight in the first trimester but in the last couple of weeks gaining about 1lb a week. Don't ususally gainn weight so freaking me out a little as was hoping to be one of those pregnant people that are all bump. (I know that i sound really vain and should be embracing the body changes etc)
How much should I be gaining at this point- is this about the right speed?
I am 15 weeks tomorrow.
Thanks for your advice

Spink · 28/07/2008 09:30

Blimey, you've all been busy on here! I've tried to read some of the thread but have given up will come back to it later when there's more time!!

I need a groan - feeling a bit rubbish, I know it is all normal and nothing to worry about, but I've been having horrid headaches for about a week, they last all day. And lots of round ligament pains too, the bottom of my bump is really tender. Boobs are hurtingtoo, having been totally fine til now!
Argh. I just want to sleep!!
Ok, enough of the groan.

Really interesting to read about the cot stuff - ds was in a bedside crib for the first 6 months, then went into a cotbed. It is still in cot formation (he's 17 mo), but apparently will last him until he's 5yrs once it is bed-like. Heis very active, asleep or awake, moves around his cot all night and is often found pressed against the head or footboard in what looks like a very contorted position - he seems to like it though! My fear is that if we take the sides off too early, while he's still doing this, he'll be falling out all the time. I guess he would quickly learn not to move around though...
the new lo will be in the old crib for the 1st 6 months (will prob co-sleep for the 1st 3 or 4 if feeds are really close together) and later on I think we'll buy another cotbed..

Chefswife hope the scan goes well
Anyone else with scans or mw appts this week?? I'm seeing mw later today but think at 16 weeks not much happens. I would love to hear baby's heartbeat

Spink · 28/07/2008 09:40

morning buckles, x-posted with you I think!

The pg books can be a bit militant when it comes to weight gain (I read 'What to Expect when Expecting' last time and nearly threw the book out of the window when I got to the diet chapter)

My mw was really reassuring about it then - she said that all women have different patterns of weight gain, and if you didn't gain any weight in the first trim, it makes sense that you might be speeding up a bit now. with the gaining weight all over thing, I was told that the body tends to lay down extra fat as stores for the upcoming milk production, and as a back-up larder for the baby. Not sure if that is true, but once your body does this, you'll prob find your bump pops and you'll be the shape you expected. You def don't need to apologise for worrying about your shape - just because you're pg, doesn't stop you being human, and we all want to feel (reasonably!)attractive. One thing about pg - it changes all the time, so you won't need to put up with this stage for long!!

missjackson · 28/07/2008 09:51

Buckles, your weight gain sounds about right I was googling this subject last night as I've only put on 1kg in 15 weeks of pregnancy apparently it's okay not to gain much in the first 12 weeks (but about 1 kilo or 2 pounds is natural given fluid increases -- see all the comments about boobs!), but after that you should be aiming for 1-2lbs (or half a kilo) a week during second trimester, so sounds like you are bang on.

As for where it goes-- it just seems that some people grow a lovely bump with no extra fat bits anywhere, and for others they store the extra fat and fluid all over their body, especially around their thighs, bottom and hips, cos that's where ladies tend to store fat!

It's weird for me too, being used to being naturally on the slim side, to suddenly feel all curvy and voluptuous but you can see I'm trying to think positively about it! From my googling (how did women have babies before the internet?!) you really don't want a low birth-weight baby if you can help it, so let's not worry about getting fat I'm sure if you've always been slim, you will return to being that way.

missjackson · 28/07/2008 09:56

must have x-posted with you Spink -- sorry to hear about your ligament pains and sore boobs and headaches, sounds rough. I know it sounds banal, but have you tried drinking tons and tons of water to try to flush out your system a bit?

I was getting all kinds of aches and pains around my bump last night which was really worrying me until I realised it was probably my digestive system going mad after stuffing myself with cream cakes and scones at an afternoon tea thing with some girlfriends!

buckles · 28/07/2008 10:41

Thanks spink and Miss J. I hate feeling paranoid about what is natural (and I have wanted for so long) I have always been a watcher of my weight and am struggling with accepting the body changes- knowing that my body will probably never be quite the same as it was before!

For those ladies that have new big boobs- welcome to my world! I am now an E heading towards an F and have to hlod on to them when going up the stairs!

Anyone else discovered the mothercare tee-shirt maternity bra? Only £14 and does NOT look like a mat bra but more like a normal one- brilliant.
