To add to my days excitement, my best friend has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl names sophia-ava, 8 lb 1 oz..... and she is GORGEOUS!!!

Suddenly it seems even MORE real, and Exciting, but a Bloody long time off.

I had been DEAD set on finding out the sex, but my friend didnt, and the excitement of wondering what it was, really kicked in. Now i'm having second thoughts!

tinkisagracefulshamu · 24/07/2008 08:49

morning

that is great news for your friend.
i am hoping that i get my scan date through soon scan should be around sept 1st.
i am definetly finding out sex of baby did with dd made it seem more exciting knowing what gender i had in me found i could bond easier too.

any thoughts on schools ladies have started a thread in that section.
dd due to start primary school next sept have seen ofsted not that good for our catchment school, dh now wants to move so that dd can go to a better school

i am 15 wks today

LooseyC · 24/07/2008 09:30

Morning! I am 14wks today - is that all?!

Mel - you have inspired me! I went on ebay and bought a ... Mountain Buggy double (going against my usual pram superstition I must say, I must be excited!) ... it looks HUGE to me but very sturdy. Not quite such a bargin as yours at £180 but good condition and no postage as the seller was just round the corner. I wheeled it back last night empty, feeling very - only had one comment from a passing car 'hey, you've forgotton your babies!' Did you get your replacement covers from the manufacturers? I'm considering it though they aren't too bad. Just need to get a carrycot now, god knows how I'll fit it all together!

Chocsolot · 24/07/2008 10:26

I am so so tired today am struggling to stay awake at my desk, just want to go and curl up in bed

hopenotsickthistime · 24/07/2008 11:08

Morning everyone.

rrayray and mel - scan pics are lovely. Mel - the twins are particularly cute facing the same way. I've never seen twin scan pics. Almost makes me envious - for a second anyway!

Buckles - highly recommend SATC box set, it kept me going during the last few weeks of my first pregnancy. That and cadburys choc fingers. I highly recommend choc fingers at anytime - perhaps that's why this bump seems bigger than the last one!

mel2005 · 24/07/2008 14:22

looseyc, thats great, what a bargain!!! i didnt need to get new covers as it just needed a few minutes of sewing the hood rod back in and a few clips on the back of the seats. they were not faded or worn at all and they were the canvas black ones which i love. i have given them a good wash and will put it all away. we took it for atest drive as my oldest got excited he had a seat again in the buggy and he only got out to play at the park.
you need to remove the fabrics on one side to get the carrycot on. i havent had a single carrycot on a double but it looks like they are different for LHS and RHS. then you just clip the carrycot on. try to get a carrycot with the clips on the sides as they are the newer version. the older version has a support bar. do you have the adjustable handle version MB? i dont think the older version carrycot fits on it. but i have heard that the newer version carrycot fits the older buggies. you could ring MB to be sure. i would recommend the newer version as the older ones could be over 4 years old.
remember that the single carrycots for the double buggy are slightly narrower than the single ones for the single buggies, so dont accidently buy a single one for a single buggy.
its nice to get things when you see a bargain rather than have a rush at the end when you are tired and huge and end up paying more money.

LenniEd · 24/07/2008 17:11

Hi all,

Just stopping in to say hi - fell asleep for 3 hours this afternoon! Bless DH for seeing to DD when she woke up from her nap - and he's taken her out for the afternoon too. I can see a few favours being called in when he gets home!

When will the tiredness end?

OP posts:
tinkisagracefulshamu · 24/07/2008 17:41

my tiredness ending last wk @ 14 wks how far r u? hope it goes soon

LooseyC · 24/07/2008 20:56

Thanks mel, think I might ring MB just to be sure I get the right thing as I'm not sure how old this version is - you can move the handle up and down but I haven't really had a good look as yet. Might think about new covers as although these aren't bad they do have a few marks and some scuffing on the side - where maybe someone underestimated it's width when going through the door?! Mind you I can't drive my single buggy so will probably do the same thing anyway...

I fell asleep for an hour this afternoon by accident after putting DS down for his nap, only woke up when he did - could have done with another 2 hours at least! I'm 14w and taking comfort from you tink

fourlittlefeet · 24/07/2008 21:04

i'm 15 weeks tomorrow and still knackered. I think its the heat though. DD woke us up at a apritely 5.15am this morning. Just to remind me of what I have to look forward to. Uggh. Really not sure I can do all those broken nights again with no respite during the day with a toddler.

LooseyC · 24/07/2008 21:21

Oh dear flf! Might have to wait beyond 15w then. DS has just stopped needing his 11pm feed so I can now go to bed early (i.e in a minute!). I'm desperately hoping he keeps it up for the next 6m before I have to do it all again...

moosemama · 24/07/2008 21:33

Had 16 wk appt with mw today.

Took both boys with me. (I have the school holidays and my parents 25th wedding anniversary/second honeymoon to thank for that!)

That said, they were absolute angels (more than I can say for the way they've been behaving at home this week!). The mw even commented on how quiet and well behaved they were - they barely moved or made a peep!

All was well, except they've lost my electrolyte and glucose blood test results! Also had a scary couple of minutes while mw searched for the heartbeat with a very concerned look on her face. But, bubs was just hiding and the boys were soooo excited to hear it when she finally did find it. Oh and mw filled in the form for my home birth so that's all booked in now.

Next appt will be my 20 wk scan on 28 July, although I will actually be 21.5 then as am on holiday (camping again) during week 20. Won't see mw again until 4 September at 22.5 wks.

Glad its not just me that's feeling sleepy, that heat today just about floored me and I had loads of baking to do to take away with us. It was ridiculously hot in the kitchen, but hey it was worth it, the muffins are gorgeous (had to taste test one for quality control purposes ) and have two tea bracks and a ginger loaf to show for it.

mel2005 · 24/07/2008 21:49

looseyc, the covers do all come off and go in the washing machine. you need to take the metal frame out fom inside the seats, there is a flap at the back. they wash well, i put them on a quick wash 30deg or handwash 30deg in my machine. the hood will not fit in my machine because of the non removable bar but i gave it a quick handwash. the bar in the middle of the seats does come out if you undo the bolt that is near the MB symbol.
if you have the adjustable handle you have the newer version so look for the carrycots with the clips on the sides.

these are the newest version of the clip on carrycots (i was tempted to get these as well) they have a lip on the apron. i think they have only been out a few months.

and this one was a bargain
cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mountain-buggy-single-carrycot-for-double-buggy_W0QQitemZ230268787129QQihZ013QQcatego ryZ66700QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

the ones on this listing are the other ones with clips

both styles should fit and are basically the same. the one i had for my single buggy was the one without the lip on the apron and my new twin one is the one with the lip. they are both clip on and both basically the same.

the lady at mountain buggy is really nice and very helpful.

tinkisagracefulshamu · 25/07/2008 08:25

morning

off to tesco for food shop soon.
looks like we are going to sell
local schools dont rate good with ofsted and we only have 2 bedrooms anyway.

mel2005 · 25/07/2008 08:55

morning tinks,
i am off to tesco as well after dropping my little boy at summer club. we have a new store opened up a couple of miles away so i am going to check it out.

rrrayray · 25/07/2008 09:43

tinks, how soon are you thinking of selling? just a little concerned for you, as everyone is aware the housing market is AWFUL at the moment, so i'm a little concerned you will not get the true value of your house. (property is my proffession, i'm a surveyor)

Just a little idea, we have recently moved, but we're of course not willing to loose out in the value of our house. We have therefore RENTED out the house at home. If you can get a tenant in that at least covers the mortgage (very likely, the rental market is soaring) then i dont know your financial situation, but if you have a mortgage, if you have a tenant that covers it, the bank will lend you as if you have disposed of the property, ie- whatever they would lend you based on what you can afford regardless of the property. You then buy something you like at a Good price ( its very much a buyers market) and then you can sell your current property when the tenancy comes to an end and the property prices have come back up slightly.

My estimations are that prices will go down another 10% over the next 12 months, and starting to recover after about 18.

Wow, i've written an essay!!!! And nothing about babies!

fymandbean · 25/07/2008 09:49

tink we're just sending ds (2.8) to a kindergarten at a private school as we don't want to move yet but all our local schools are pants! If we stay here he will go private (although am quaking a bit at the thought of the fees for 2 at secondary level...)

fymandbean · 25/07/2008 09:55

oh and on housing don't forget ALL house prices are down and not shifting - so discount yours to sell it and offer low on what you are looking at buying it's a very good time to upgrade houses as the price differentials are lower....

rrrayray · 25/07/2008 09:55

Bean- just pray they are super intellegent.... Most Schools Do Almost full Scholorships!

I've got my 20 week scan, sept 18th! Very exciting!!! Although i think it maybe changed, after my midwife visit yesterday i'm thinking since we are actually closer to hariwch of giving birth at the midwife led centre there than Colchester general which was rather unpersonal from my experience of popping in the other day!

I havent fully decided on birthing plan or anything, got AGES to think about it. Am just wondering if i REALLY can do it without an epidural, as obviously not offered at midwife led, as i'm NOT very good with pain, but at the same time, i REALLY want an active labour! I guess if i'm at midwife led, the idea of a 20 min ambulance drive to colchester for the epidural might spur me on to do it without?!

EachPeachPearMum · 25/07/2008 11:24

moosemama- please post the recipe for tea brack! I love the stuff.
Still very tired here, but managing to stay up until 8.30 as opposed to 7.30!

tinkisagracefulshamu · 25/07/2008 11:24

hi ray

thanks for advice we were planning on going into estate agents tom to say that we want to sell then we are going to rent in chandlesford.
need the space,dd is going to school next sept.
i am awful with pain 2!! have a slight tummy ache or headache and think that i am going to die.
i managed with dd with just gas and air some how labour was 30 hrs from 1st contractions. had a ventouse plus 2nd degree tearing

stripeywoollenhat · 25/07/2008 11:47

morning all!

what an absolute pain for you oto have to move, tink. we are quite lucky on the schools front since our nearest primary is the one in the area we would have picked - can't even believe i have thought about this! but things are a bit different in ireland, we don't have ofsted reports, and we are just keen not to send lo to catholic school which most of the primaries here are.

hilariously, i have thought more about schools than the actual giving birth side of things (picture me with my eyes closed and my fingers in my ears singing lalalala as loud as i can. can't even start to describe how freaked out i am at the notion of tearing...)

fourlittlefeet · 25/07/2008 12:16

LALALALLALALA

Don't think about birth until the third trimester.

Then that is all you think about

LALALLALALA

stripeywoollenhat · 25/07/2008 12:21

i'm wondering if there's any possibility of being rendered unconscious for the last six weeks or so, until after the event... exceedingly happy about small child, really not all that impressed, so far, with the process. my poor sister is now two days overdue and has a fixed grin to disguise her gritted teeth... i am not sure, with my dawning horror (tearing!), that i am being particularly helpful....
