i have the mountain buggy single urban elite and its fantastic, if you can stretch to a secondhand one i would recommend it over any other buggy. i have had loads of buggies and mountain buggies are by far the best quality and the easiest to push etc. i have bought a double for the twins but i will not be selling my single yet as i dont want to tempt fate and my DD still uses it occasionally.
keep your eyes on e-bay, select mountain buggy, newly listed, buy it nows. i have seen the newer adjustable handle urbans on BIN before for £100 with accessories, what a bargain!!! You can get a good one with accessories for £200 ish, which might include the carrycot as well.
i would try to get the adjustable handle version as the non adjustable ones were made before 2005. the carrycots go for between £35 and £50 on e-bay and make sure it fits the single version an it has the clips on the sides so its easy to get on and off. they are worth it as you can use it for daytime naps as well, some people use them as a moses basket.

its the best buggy off-road and it is fantastic on the beach but the swivel wheel makes it easy in the shops.

rrrayray · 12/09/2008 10:22

Hurrrrrrrrrrrrah!!! i had some sleep last night. i don't know what it was, i think the rain on the velux window abouve our head may have helped lull me to sleep or something? it wasn't totally unbroken, but ALOT better than before.

spink Thanks, i totally agree, the Activia youghurts are great.... But i've actually been eating 2 a day for months! I read somewhere once the sickness stops, the constipation/bloated feeling starts. Which is why i'm so bemused it happened to me.I've been eating fruit galoree, bran flakes AND the youghurts. Can you imagine the mess i'd be in if i HADN'T been eating all those Fibre filled things. Luckily i don't feel bloated today, but i have some PRUNE juice (Ewwwwwwwwwwwe) in the cupboard for next time!!!!! sorry for too much info!!happyathome thats excatly what happened with me, the sickness, then i get a cold, la la la, there is always a reason not to exercise. i DID swim and gym yesterday, Despite nearly turning the car back the ENTIRE way..... and i feel SOoooo good for it. i think it MIGHT be the reason for me sleeping better last night? Anything is better than nothing, i did a few stretches, which felt Good, as i feel like everything has been tightening up, then did 10 mins fast walk on treadmill and Swam for 20 mins. Swam relaxing pace breaststroke, but my gosh for someone who was REALLY fit about 5 months ago i've ever got REALLY unfit really quick, or the baby is HEAVY- i was PANTING by the end of my swimming!

Miserable & rainy here today!!! Blurgh.

fourlittlefeet · 12/09/2008 10:31

gosh billy, your poor friend .

MsSparkle, make sure you up your fibre as iron tablets bung you up a bit!!

DP has just got a baby names book out from the library as I've told him he has to do the shortlist this time. Last time I came up with loads of names and he veto'd them all.

I know I will still have to do it at 37 weeks as he won't have got his arse into gear .

tinkhasanactivebean · 12/09/2008 10:48

billy - your poor friend

rrrayray · 12/09/2008 10:50

fourlittlefeet What a brilliant idea...... I'm going to get DP onto doing the short list as he shoots everything i suggest down!!!!

rrrayray · 12/09/2008 10:51

.............although maybe it should be a long list- i have a feeling i wont like ANYTHING he suggests either- Uh...oh...

fourlittlefeet · 12/09/2008 11:03

lol. let me know how you go and we can have a chuckle! one of his names last time was Aloysius FGS!

qumps · 12/09/2008 11:11

oh billyfish thats so awful to hear. will think of your friend in my prayers. with bump having soft markers edwards was one of the things they were looking at fetal unit with us and its is just a terrible illness. have they advised her what to do? gosh i'm in tears. so so awful and sad.

qumps · 12/09/2008 11:25

no to urban detour. had one for a while and thought it was terrible. i have p&t which i love though feel bad bump gets biscuit covered seat rather than spanking new todler bit which ds gets. seems unfair?! friend has mountain buggy for twins and loves it. she is a research freak and spent hours finding the right buggy and test drove them all. do think it costs as much as a car though....
love ruby too. dh not keen on stanley and now unsure of arthur so no names at all on the table. always loved evie or gracie for a girl....

moosemama · 12/09/2008 11:51

mel, have been watching mountain buggies and carrycots on ebay for weeks now but they have all either had stiff competition making them too expensive or are too far away to collect. There also seems to be a lot more doubles than single coming up for sale. Same with Nipper 360s.

I have been holding off in the hope a bargain would come up, but am getting twitchy and just want to get on with it now. I think I will still keep an eye out for an ebay MB bargain even if I get something else as I really would prefer a MB.

Qumps, we had a double urban detour when DS2 was born. It was a second hand bargain off ebay and we loved it. We had no problems at all with it, it was easy to push and clean and we never had a puncture.

From the research I've been doing (and believe me I've done a lot - been at it for weeks now) I've found that no matter which buggy you're interested in someone somewhere has always had problems with it. My mind is boggled from all the reviews I've read but I've only heard one other bad report of an urban detour. Guess its the luck of the draw, bit like cars, just bad luck if you get what my Dad used to call 'the Friday Night' one. My parents bought a brand new car years ago and literally everything went wrong on it (despite Dad's diligent research and dedication to his bible - the Which Report!). We always used to say it was definitely a 'Friday Night car'.

Anyhoo, am off into town in a minute to push a few about and see if that sways me in any particular direction. I'll probably come back wanting something completely different again!

Chocsolot · 12/09/2008 12:22

Hi,

Just got my weekly updat email that DH has arranged for us to receive every week and it was talking about baby names in the 'bits for dads' section, the advice they gave them made me chuckly:

Some parents have no problem agreeing on a name for their baby. Other parents go through World War III. Here are a few ideas . . . make a list of ten of your favorite names (if you don't know your baby's gender, make a list of boys' names and a list of girls' names). Have mom do the same thing and then exchange lists. Cross off the names on her list that you absolutely hate while mom crosses off her least favorite names on your list. If any names survive the process, start playing with those in various configurations. This may be one of those areas where compromise is a gift.

Very PC i thought!

Chocsolot · 12/09/2008 12:25

We have decided on a buggy, we have a mini cooper so the options were limited but we have found one we agree on and we did the mothercare test last week and it fits in the mini boot perfectly. Its a bebe comfort Loola, it made me very excited..... now waiting for baby show to see if we can get the car seat free as part of a show deal! Like you guys, not prepared to pay full prcie for it either they are very expensive purchases!

happyathome · 12/09/2008 12:30

hi all,
SPINK-thanks for yoghurt advice.Funny enough,i just started trying Yeo Valley probiotic ones this week,as heard there is a vague link with reducing allergies(also i'm doing pregnacare with omega 3's as the 3's also vaguely linked with reduction in sensitization to egg-my DD's allergy-and less severe atopic dermatitis at 1 yr...who knows,...worth a try as i don't hardly eat fish!).I believe food exclusion diets haven't been reccommended especially from week 20,but i will ask midwife.Any of you heard about food avoiding to reduce allergies?(apart from peanuts..which i avoid, but there is so much conflicting info isn't there).Daft question, but anyone avoiding cheesecake, thought with the soft cheese and all that?....I've gone all super paranoid about food this pregnancy, thought i would be more relaxed, but especially things like MSG still bother me,unyet i can't curtail my urge to stuff salt & vinegar crisps down e.t.c..On holiday,i also had 3 pints of larger shandy on 3 seperate nights and feel worried in the light of the most recent 'avoid all alcohol' message.Thought it wouldn't halm though as only about 1 unit each and i don't drink AT ALL rest of year.
Oh someone slap me i'm getting hysterical.
Like the name Ruby a lot.
What a silly sonographer.I would continue to think girl or boy, because ours said very confidently...oh it's a boy.I kept on at her and she added....we don't usually get our boys wrong, just a bit unsure about girls. So can't be as certain about girls anyway.Told DD was a girl though and was pretty sure..think we were given a high percentage chance from woman.I honestly felt it was a girl though too. This time i felt certain it was a boy(even dreamt about a BFP and was talking about a Christopher in my dream,2 days before real BFP...not that we choose Christopher)...and was right.

RRAY...glad you got more sleep. Thanks for sharing with me about swimming, because it's just dawned on me that perhaps it could help my sleep too!.Plan on taking DD this weekend.Might get a swim myself too if DH comes too.

QUMPS....Evie and Grace are georgous names.Wish i could use a girl's name, never did like boys names.Anyway our shortlist is Jack,Adam,or Toby.Used to like David,Jacob.DH is very vague and i want to put a rocket up his bum...feel like i've got triplets with all these names keep being used/floating around.

Parents and ILS have freaked me out.My mum thought boy and bought odd blue things long before i told her.MIL said yesterday how's Jack or Jacquline joking(she doesn't want to know).JACK is our first choice and she says she has got DD an ornament for Xmas with a girl looking over a boy's shoulder as he reads(as DD has talked about teaching her new brother things)

so much for my short post resolution
happy & Snugs x

happyathome · 12/09/2008 12:41

oh no...it sounds like i had 3 pints a night. What i meant to say is:
i only had one pint of shandy each night(2,1/2 in total over whole holiday...gave my husband the last half...felt too guilty[blush).
WOW CHOCSOLOT...i tested Loola at Mothercare and liked it best too.Reviews don't look too crash hot though either and only seen a couple out and about....mainly see Quinny's or Bugaboos all over town)...but seen a couple in favour again this week(including you)....does anyone else know much about Loola Bebe Conforts..they are not very talked about?

tinkhasanactivebean · 12/09/2008 12:45

we are going to get quinny buzz in strawberry red cant wait ordering beg of nov

rrrayray · 12/09/2008 12:48

Qumps i LOVE Evie too... but if girl OH wont let me have it, as thinks will be shortened to Eve, and doesn't like Eve. Hmm... funny man!

buggy discussing ladies- I stumbled on the Out n About Nipabout when my friend was pregnant. I don't think its been out long, but she LOVES it. I am well and truly set on that. Plus the maxi cosi car seat slots into it, bonus for moi! Will be going to the baby shop near us to order it & trimmings! ha!

Have just ordered the Funkiest baby grow online. For SOME reason i've REALLY wanted a polkadot unisex (being we don't know what bean is yet) baby grow. Alot of baby grows i've seen are white, or cream for uni sex, and then just blue or pink for girls.... anyway i found one- and just ordered it!! Very excited.... What a Funky baby Bean will be- Well, when that baby grow is Clean! haha!

rrrayray · 12/09/2008 12:50

hi everybody, having an unscheduled day at home because of nearly fainting on the bus this morning, second time this week. dropped in to my doctor who couldn't find anything wrong and thinks maybe titch is putting pressure on that big vein (can't remember name) intermittently, but she sent me home to rest anyway. small one seems fine, heartbeat perfect and kicking about. not sure whether to worry or not but have to say it's not terribly pleasant to come over all weird on the public transport...

ruby is cute, i also really like edie, dorothy, but think catherine is in poll position at the moment

rrrayray the baby gro is adorable. i sense a spot of credit card abuse coming on...

Chocsolot · 12/09/2008 13:44

Hope your feeling alright stripey i guess if the doctor says all is well a day at home at the ned of the week isn't such a bad thing - wouldn't want to faint on a bus for it but do wish I was at home, have no energy today

My god daughter is called Evie and her surname is Grace, which is just super sweet, i like both those names.

happyathome, how funny, glad you liked the Loola too, I think the reviews are mixed to be honest, it definately got the best reviews of the ones that fit in the boot of a mini! . I htought it handled really well too and wasn't too heavy but heavy enough to feel steardy, i haven't read of anyone who had one and didn't like it, the Loola Up reveiws don't seem as preferable though and we found the Streety was really shoddy so I think the Loola is the best in the range.

stripeywoollenhat · 12/09/2008 13:49

chocs, sorry you are tired, hope that you are off at the weekend... am feeling fine now, reclining on couch in front of the daytime tv. shame daytime tv is so crap.

NatalieJaneIsPregnantAgain · 12/09/2008 14:01

Hello everyone

I don't know if anyone will remember me, I joined the thread way back when I got my BFP, but have been very lapse and barely been back I had a MC in January so have been a bit worried this time, though now having regular movements and hiccups (!!) so I feel like I can finally be brave enough to join back in, if that's OK?

We had the 20 week scan a few weeks ago, found out we are having another boy (will be DS3 )

And I see the topic of conversation is shopping, which is one of my favourite topics Think only chocolate beats it

Chocsolot · 12/09/2008 14:03

I have booked in a weekend of doing nothing whilst DH strips wall paper in the to-be nursery!

Glad your feeling better

qumps · 12/09/2008 14:53

hi nataliejane. glad to hear all is well. another boy too they will all have to fight over women.
sorry to moan about urban detour. i think my main problem was that it was second hand from a family member so i was out to get it from day one as wanted a new one! my mum loved it and still says she prefers it to the p&t. how dare she! frind who s on 1st pregnancy is loving the icandy and it gets good reviews on here. i remember actually crying about buggies the first time round as it all gets so confusing.
rrrayray what a fab site. have added it to my favourites. a friend of mine's auntie runs this one.
www.ohbabylondon.co.uk
very funky and buy the girl tops with matching pants for friends as am sure destined to never have a girl myself.
stripey poor you. another friend has fainted all the way through her 2nd trimester, including in middle of selfridges, and doc can't find anything wrong and said just another joy of pregnancy i'm afraid. from someone who has never fainted it must be very scary.
right i have given you all some lovely girls names - help me out with boys! what are your grandads called as love old fashioned names.

tinkhasanactivebean · 12/09/2008 15:16

this one hiccups and moves loads 2 and seems to be pushing on my bladder this week
