glad it will ease with rest Qumps.I once had a pulled back that was agony for days,so know how you feel.(was not pregs then).
I really like Alfie,but DH doesn't.There's an Arthur,that's a sibling of a boy in DD's class.
We are not settled on one,but i want to be.You feel like when you know, you want to name it,as he/she still isn't a real person eh?!.

MsSparkle · 10/09/2008 21:27

Hello everyone,

I haven't been online for a while, we have just bought a new computer. Gone from a laptop to a pc so it's gonna take some time to get used to it.

How has everyone been?

LenniEd · 10/09/2008 21:37

Arrgghhh! Names! We're struggling. No ideas whatsoever and no leftovers from DD either since an old colleague unknowingly used our (slightly unusual) boy name and although I don't see them anymore we still have mutual friends so it might be a little strange.

I like Olivia for a girl but am completly clueless with boys names.

tinkhasanactivebean · 11/09/2008 08:58

morning

raining here again

happyathome · 11/09/2008 10:08

morning too!
Tink-i like the mansion house too.It does look good, especially when a few are playing with it(more room to move). If you have a bigger house then you can use different dolls or furniture in it too,not just specific to that house(and some dolls just won't fit in).I had a house similar to Rosebud as a child(a Lundby house...in the 80's) and my daughter now has it.She doesn't play with it much though.Mainly i think she is an extrovert and prefers playing simple games with real people, rather than on her own with miniature worlds.I am looking into toys that are more easily shared with friends and where she can move about more with it.(sat too stationary with a little house).
hope you're back is a bit better today Qumps.

We're stuck on names too. Although we don't know what Bean is yet, we're sure its a boy!! I like Caleb, OH not sure, and He likes Jake- which i don't dislike, but i don't want to call my child that.

I am a miserable GRUMP this morning. I had Nooooooooooooooooooo sleep last night. My stuffy nose didn't help, but i just couldn't Get comfy. i felt Sooooooooooooooooooo Bloated and Gasey (sorry if too much info) which is odd as i've eaten LOTS of fruit, so Fibre recently!!! I spent the whole night tossing and turning and shifting my mammoth preggy pillow around. Grr.

Off for a swim, don't feel like it, but for a serious Gym bunny before pregnancy, my lack of exercise during pregnancy has been astonishing! i've turned into a couch potato!

happyathome · 11/09/2008 11:56

sorry about the rough night rray.
know what you mean about bloated.I too worry seriously about my couch potato-ness.Was like that before PG.Could never gear myself up enough for an exercise program.Told myself i must walk or something when PG,but felt crap all PG one way or another-tiredness and depression 1st trimester and dragging pains, this trimester, waddling with very dodgy pelvis(every step uncomfy and hard work)and then a cold/cough virus,so chest deffinately not up to it.Just feel very invalid all-round really.Does anyone know if there's any hope i could improve on it now,or is it too late?.I worry about every muscle snapping as i grow bigger, not to mention the lack of energy for labour!.
I know swimming protects ligaments e.t.c.,but it's just making myself bother to go,plus the expense and i have to try and take my DD regularly.I have hand ezcema,so i don't think regular chlorine will do it much good. All i want to do is recline/hibernate until Jan..
sorry to rant....

happyathome every little helps as they say! pe teacher advice: swimming is great but walking is good too. a walk round the shops does it for me! mind you if pelvis is bad they might not advise too much walking. do you think you have psd? have you tried a belt? can't sleep with mine on but def seems to help. i also have tape all down my back which makes me concentrate on using the right muscles. have to say physio at west mid fab. lots of hospitals do back and pelvis classes for free. other option which is spot on is pilates/yoga but make sure you see a pregnancy specialist. and remember ladies pelvic floor pelvic floor and more pelvic floor! didn't bother first time round as thought i would be fine. lets just say was glad it was raining the first time i broke into a jog in public! had to resort to a machine to do it for me while watching hollyoaks!

happyathome · 11/09/2008 14:13

thanks QUMPS for the great advice.I don't know about PSD.Don't know what it is specifically. Will chew on all your ideas though.Think i might look into a belt especially.
take care.

tinkhasanactivebean · 11/09/2008 14:32

i am probably going to get dd for xmas elc fairy wonderland plus fairy sets, horses and swan carriage and some other little bits havent decided yet.

MsSparkle · 11/09/2008 15:20

Names are so hard aren't they!

I started taking iron tablets today in hope they will boost my energy which is rubbish at the moment. I have also started taking calcium tablets too to boost that. It's wierd because i have never taken vitimens in my life my have decided to now.

Dp and i have ordered a P&T pushchair. It looks like the most practicle one out there for us, even though it was a bit pricey.

I am 24 weeks now. Time is flying by. I find a boomerang pillow really helps me sleep

Spink · 11/09/2008 15:41

tink - sounds like a fab christmas pressie!!
what with our finances we'll be being creative with presents - think we might ask FIL to get a child-sized piano as he doesn't know what to buy (about 40 quid - like this)and then just little bits like crayons and a book or two. Last year I painted ds a picture (I copied something out of one of his books as I'm not very imaginative!) and I might do that again this year. Luckily he's too small to have built up expectations, so just getting little things from us won't be a let down..

rrray and happyathome - have you tried those bioactivia yoghurts? I was really bloated and then tried them on the off chance and have been much better. Still heartburny but I guess you can't have it all!
I started antenatal yoga a few weeks ago and it is BLISS. This week I was knackered and nearly didn't go but the teacher is fab and it ended up being really relaxing. It's not really exercise though!

Qumps - I really like all those names! I like Stanley but I'm not so sure about Stan (just cos I knew someone as a teenager who referred to himself as "Stan the Man" I think!). I guess that goes to show that names are such a personal thing, what one name means to one person (and how much they like it) will be so subjective. THis is what I'm telling myself anyway when I'm trying not to care about other people's opinions of ours..
We're still preparing girl and boy shortlists as neither of us were convinced by the sonographer! We're going to try to have at least 2 names on each list - with ds we had Frank and Henry as our two, and he was just not not not a Henry and so so so a Frank, even though before we'd liked both names equally!!
So far for a girl we've got Cecily, Maggie and Kitty.
For a boy it is Atticus & Louie.

MsSparkle · 11/09/2008 15:46

Spink do you know hat your having? Except a baby of coarse

qumps · 11/09/2008 16:48

i really like all those names. very into old fashioned names. why are you not convinced by scanner? what did they say you were having?

tinkhasanactivebean · 11/09/2008 16:51

lol @ baby

Chocsolot · 11/09/2008 17:53

lol too

loving the baby names conversation. We are keeping the gender a suprise, we are in agreement on Hannah if its a girl. i really like Daniel and Ben (but DH is a Bill so we can't have Bill and Ben!). He likes Timothy because our surname begins with M, and he thinks it would be dead cool to have a Timothy Ian so his initials are TIM..... bless him!

Think if its a boy we will just see what it looks like (probably screwed up and red faced but everyone keeps assuring us we will know what suits when we see it.

Hope you get a better night tonight Rray

Spink · 11/09/2008 18:26

MsSparkle & Qumps - well, the scan woman was a bit vague generally, she introduced herself to us 3 times, and then asked if we wanted to know the sex, we said yes.. and then she said nothing more all scan, gave me the paper towel to wipe myself down at the end, and I said "Oh could you not tell what it was then?" she said she'd forgotten to look and put some more gel on bump and had another look. Then said she couldn't be sure but she hadn't "seen any dangly bits" so it was prob a girl...
we both left thinking "yep right, we trust you"

Spink · 11/09/2008 18:27

definitely not a labial fold conversation...

Chocsolot · 11/09/2008 19:14

spink that was very bizarre, surely its an ocupational hazard for a sonographer to forget to look for things! How frustrating for you.

Spink · 11/09/2008 19:40

ah well, we were in two minds about asking, so it wasn't too annoying. But I keep thinking - if she really wasn't sure, she would've said she didn't know and keep her dangly comment to herself?

stripeywoollenhat · 11/09/2008 19:57

spink did she seem like she had a hangover or something? that seems very disorganised... we saw the three lines, so we are pretty sure - "absence of dangly bits" wouldn't have convinced me either
well, i am feeling very cranky - sore hips, another crap day at work, dp gone for a pint and i am feeling really quite jealous - even the small one gently headbutting me is not cheering me up... well, okay, it is kind of cute...

we were going to call her reuben if she had been a boy. now we are going to try and work out a couple of girls names so that we have one that suits her

Spink · 11/09/2008 21:05

maybe she was an impostor and had locked the real sonographer in the cupboard...

stripey - sorry to hear you're feeling pants.
how about Ruby? a lady version of Reuben, kind of...

billyfish · 11/09/2008 21:11

am very sad, am pg with number four 23 weeks, but my friend who was having her first has been told the baby has Edwards syndrome and 95% chance will not survive pgncy.....i feel very luckyxxx

moosemama · 11/09/2008 21:15

Hi

We have been thinking about names for a while now and now we know its a girl its helped to take the pressure off a bit.

We did have 2 names for a girl already 1 from last time and 1 from a dream where I had a little girl, but we seem to have shifted away from those now and have a different choice of 3 names. Keeping schtum though, someone always says they don't like the name you picked and sets you off searching again.

I've been having pushchair trauma. Have decided we will do up our old maclaren techno for bus travel as is in ok condition and will just need a new footmuff and/or liner. However, I really want to get back into my walking and with walking to the school twice a day as well I could do with something easy to push and steer that will do all terrain etc

Sooo have been looking on ebay, reading reviews and comparing prices. My ideal would be a single mountain buggy but they are waaaay too expensive new and don't come up that often on ebay so are in demand. An alternative would be the nipper 360, but there seem to be loads of doubles available and very few singles, could get a new one for just under 200 pounds though. (Both the MB and the Nipper are lightweight - similar in weight to the Mac Techno.)

Alternatives (but a lot bulkier and heavier) would be a Mothercare Urban Detour or a Mamas and Papas 03 Sport Tundra. I really like the look of the 03 and have seen a really good deal on a new one, but am concerned about Mamas and Papas poor service record.

I like the look of the Quinny Speedi but don't think we can stretch to it. Have seen a couple on ebay, but would need the carrycot to go with it and that puts the price up.

Aaaaargh - I really thought I had made up my mind on the 03 today, but have read such bad reviews on mumsnet about Mamas and Papas customer service that I'm worried a) about it dropping to bits and b) not being able get them to sort out any problems that do occur.

Why can't I just make a decision? Actually I know, its because its such a big expenditure that I'm worried about making the wrong decision.
