am due jan9th, 23 weeks, looking for some ppl to chat to?

terf · 09/09/2008 14:14

Hello everyone thought I'd say hi - I just found the whole conversation about not telling Asian couples the gender of their baby Very Bizarre! EPPM are you sure they do this or are you assuming? I'm Asian but based in London - if I knew something like this was happening in my area I'd be very vocally complaining. Racism like this still happens in this country???

moosemama · 09/09/2008 14:53

Oh qumps you poor thing! Sending healing thoughts.

I feel very guilty for feeling sorry for myself about my hips etc now.

fourlittlefeet · 09/09/2008 15:56

qumps you poor thing! hope it sorts itself out for you.

Terf, I know for a fact that at some hospitals in london they'll tell you or not depending on your skin colour. it is shocking.

hello billy!

moosemama · 09/09/2008 16:02

Hi and welcome billy.

rrrayray · 09/09/2008 16:53

Qumps You poor thing....and here I am feeling sorry for myself for simply having a viral infection!!! You poor thing, that must have been VERY Scary. Thank goodness someone was home with you!! Hope you feel better VERY soon & the physio can help you tomorrow.
Hugs

Terf I think what EachPeachPearMum was saying is that consultant/sonogrpahers just seem to oddly not sex some babies from time to time with Asian couples. So I guess it?s not enough evidence to really kick up a fuss about, it?s just something that going on. I too am totally disgusted at the idea this goes on!!!

Talking of gender being told, etc, it does seem bizarre that it?s a postcode lottery as to whether you?re told or not. i.e., some ladies being told and knowing here in Essex They Don?t. The funny thing is, we literally sit on the Essex/Suffolk Boarder, so had I liked Ipswich hospital better than Harwich Birthing centre- I may well have been told the sex. Depending on the Suffolk Policy (Which I don't know!) However at £45 to have a scan with the sole purpose being to tell the gender I think is prob likely to be more accurate than an NHS scan where the sonographer begrudgingly has a guess! Plus if they can't get a good view, I get a free re-scan! Woo!

Tucking into Macaroni cheese, always been comfort food to me. Although thinking about the ingredients, has to be pretty bad for me! Although LOTS of Calcium for bubba! I can reason with that!

rrrayray · 09/09/2008 16:55

Oh & of course welcome Billy!

I stumbled on Mumsnet about 8 weeks gone, and for a firstimer its been a GODSEND! I spend FAR too much time on here!!

moosemama · 09/09/2008 17:13

ray, ssshhhh don't tell my kids! They've been begging me for macaroni cheese tonight but we are having vegetable risotto. (insert mean Mummy emoticon here!) It's a major comfort food in this house too - enjoy!

Rather than re-post, what does everyone think about this (ie what happened to DS2 at school today)? Am still feeling quite unsettled about it really.

elkiedee · 09/09/2008 17:37

stripeywoollenhat · 09/09/2008 19:17

hi all - and welcome billy!

haven't posted for a bit - been away on holiday - south of france, hot and relaxing, though very strange to spend time in france without drinking wine (though wine seems to be the one thing i really can't go near at the moment, not even red wine vinegar). and since i've been back, i have a new line manager who will not shut up, so i'm dragging myself home every evening feeling, frankly, that the last thing i want to do is any more communicating...

but i had my 20 week scan today - at 22 weeks, but hey - and we're having a little girl! i am ridiculously pleased about this (i think i would be just as pleased if she were a boy: it's just that having a sex seems to turn her into a real person, if you know what i mean). everything looks good with her, she's on the small size of normal but very lively - i knew that was her head she was whacking me in the side with....

qumps hope that it sorts itself out soon.

Spink · 09/09/2008 20:05

evening everyone!
Qumps OH MY GOD that sounds horrible. Do you know why your ligaments were loose? Is it just because your ligaments generally are relaxing? Your poor back. I hope you get a great physio and feel back to normal really soon.

Billy - hello! How's it going? you had your scan yet?

Tink - i plan to look at those and get back to you after Holby City (love it, so trashy!!)

Kittenpaws · 09/09/2008 20:35

Hi

Qumps - hope your a feling better

Tink - my DD had the rosebud house for her 4th birthday - to be quite honest she hasn't played with it that much. Probably partly because its in her bedroom rather than downstairs to keep the small bits from her little brothers hands but also she prefers her baby annabel and its pram. Probably the toy they both play with most is the till with the play food and tea set.

Had my follow up appt with the doctor at the hospital today to discuss delivery options (emergency cs with DD and nasty tear with DS). I thought they were going to say I needed another cs as I have vague memories of a doctor telling me on the day i had no 2 that if I had no 3 I would have to. Anyway they have left it up to me to decide - there are risks both ways which seem to me about equal. I don't have to decide until my 36 week appt which gives lots of time to think but will probably try to have a normal delivery albeit with lots of doctors present rather than a cs unless something else happens. In some ways good to have a choice but part of me thinks it would have been easier to be told what to do!

LenniEd · 09/09/2008 22:24

Tink - only looked quickly but I like both the first two (always think a few smaller gifts are better than one big one as they are so fickle with toys). The snow queen one looks amazing but might get grown out of quicker perhaps?

Qumps, hope you are ok and get a good nights rest.

Welcome Billy.

Glad you had a good holiday Kittenpaws.

Will check your other thread in the morning Moosemama - battery about to go on laptop.

Night all.

Chocsolot · 10/09/2008 10:09

Morning all,

Just been reading through the last couple of days......

Qumps hope your feeling better, how scarey!

Moosemama a much better nights sleep thankyou, my SIL is 31 weeks and she said that hot milk, a bath and feet and head rubs really settle her nicely before bed if she has had a couple of nasty nights (good to know whe has my brother's well trained!) so DH was given his orders, guilted into the fact my brother may be more attentive (they are very competitive!) and I had a lovely nights sleep following my pampering, not sure i will get away with such measures everynight though. Still getting dead legs every 2 hours whilst asleep though. God knows how babd that will be in 10 weeks time!

I agree with the abortion thing as well ray. I was really disturbed the other day my friends mum is a hospital chaplin and she said the worst thing about her job is having to go and bless the baby in a bucket following an abortion. And some people having abortions insist on it. I was heartbroken at this, its obviously not our place to judge anybody and I wouldn't want to be seen too, but i had always given people in that situation the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were unaware of how developed that babies are at such an early stage, I know that finding out how quickly our babies develop is one of the things that has amazed me most and being pregnant! But having it blessed just seems a bizarre thing to me if that is the case, oh well, as i say who am i to judge I guess every circumstance is different, so so sad though

We did our pricing up of all the things we need..... lets just say we are praying for some bargains at the baby show! And DH has decided his latest money saving idea is to do all the nursery himself, he has started stripping the walls of wall paper and has pulled all the plaster off beneath.... I dispair!

qumps · 10/09/2008 12:03

currently lain on hot water bottle. little sleep but family have been brillaint rallying round to look after ds. he is a bit upset though as wants mummy and has to be lifted onto my lap. dh is even working from home which is unheard of. hospital in a bit so hopefully some drugs!
moosemama i am a teacher and that is outrageous. too right go in and have a word. your poor little one but bless him for telling you and coping so well. you obviously have a great relationship with him.
very interesting reading about the gender convo. we are west mid and had heard sme stories about them not telling you the gender due to there being a large asian population near by. however we have found out both times without any problems. we are white british so would be interested to know if anyone else has had a problem there.

Spink · 10/09/2008 12:10

qump - good to hear you are being properly looked after. Hope the physio is nice to you

tink - I like the 2nd one best, seems least fiddly and most accessible if more than one is playing with it.

happyathome · 10/09/2008 12:13

Hi everyone,
sorry i have not joined in with you all for a while. It went downhill after our broadband was unconnected for a while, then i realised i had spent far too long on it,when i didn't have it available!..housework,Dh e.t.c. were all badly neglected...i just get too addicted once i start and spend too many hours searching other threads/websites and then i am a paranoid sort,so i look up info and then am too informed and create anxiety(if you know what i mean). Also i can't shut up,so ramble on for ages.So if it's ok with you lot i'll just do short posts,as i do care what has been happening to you all and have been reading depsite not posting.
So sorry Qumps about your back and your frustration Tink and Rray at not knowing gender. And sympathies to those not sleeping with hip problems(i have that too just now-got cramp in both feet last night too!),financial problems e.t.c.In fact all those on this thread i send my get well thoughts/best wishes.
My baby is a....BOY!,to add to the blue brigade and my date is 14th Jan(forgotton again how to update list again and lost my instructions someone gave me for it-sorry!).
He is healthy so far! and my triple result was 1 in 24,000,which i was super pleased about.
Me and DD(6),have had bad virus too.She may have mild asthma, which i have to take her to be assesed for.I'm finding it really painful, just above belly button, when i cough. All tummy seems to contract on every cough and is super tender.Wonder if it can do damage, whether it's normal?!!...any of you had this?.Very hard to walk too with aching/jelly pelvis!.Loads of regular kicking going on now with baby.
Good luck with coming gender scans and hope everyone's health improves soon!
take care
Happy and Snugs x

Chocsolot · 10/09/2008 13:40

Hi happyathome

I haven't got those problems myself but i went to a backs and babys class at my hospital and there is apparently a muscle just above your belly button that can sometimes strain or tear slightly. It apparently does repair itself and unfortunately they didn't provide any golden nuggets on how to avoid it but said it is often triggered by coughing and sneezing (given we will all be pregnant over the start of winter i guess we will all be joining you with that issue soon)- they did say if you have super fit abs before getting pregnant it reduces the chance of having these problems, i just remember sitting there thinking how useful retrospect is!!!

There advise on the pelvis/hip aches was the normal type of stuff like sleeping with a pillow between your legs, trying to keep your pelvis straight, taking smaller steps when walking etc. Apparently the relaxin chemical has been released into our bloodstream around week 14 in prep for labour and as we get further in our pregnancy this will get stronger ready for birth. It causes the muscles at the front and back of pelvis to go really soft which means the two parts of the pelvis can move in different directions and cause hip pains if you twist or move too quickly...... not sure if that helps, its obviously easier said than done!

happyathome · 10/09/2008 19:40

thanks for the reassurance Chocsolot and the info.Hope you and the baby are well!

Chocsolot · 10/09/2008 20:05

we're good thank you, can't feel it kick yet but can feel it moving and think it has shifted position to lie on my pelvic floor, bless it, we're good though, rather than telling me how huge i am people now keep telling me how great i look and how pregnancy suits me so that is a definate step forward!

qumps · 10/09/2008 20:31

its a disc problem. not good but if i take it easy for the next few days fingers crossed can at least lift ds by monday.
how many boys on here?! does that mean we all had jiggy in the same position?! can't believe how many of us have found out as i am the only one amongst about 6 of my friends who are preggers who knows what they are having. however know that i may well be having c section it feels like a baby to order. i'll have a blue on on the 3rd jan at 10am please.
now bit premature i know but to get the ball rolling - names. i have an alfred (alfie) and i like stanley for the bump but dh likes arthur. any thoughts?
