welcome feedmenow

mrsmontano · 01/08/2008 18:05

hey feedmenow welcome

chefswife that second youtube vid was good, lovely and natural and not scary at all, but it led me to watch loads of other birth videos with more close ups and blood...
and then i moved on to the c-section ones (don't know what sort of birth i'll be having yet, last was a c-sec) and theyre even worse :S

i don't post much but i've been keeping up to date with all of you, jealous of those feeling moving movements already. A couple of times i've thought i've felt something but it's usually been followed by unmistakeable wind so i dont think i've actually felt anything real yet. and at the last scan they said the placenta is low down at the front, so i may have to wait even longer to feel something.

feedmenow · 01/08/2008 19:20

Thanks for the welcome.

Just wondering, do you have a stats thread?

chefswife · 01/08/2008 21:12

welcome feedmenow. i'm in the same boat. my due date from my last period is dec28th but because i kept a record of when DH and i had sex, i know that i conceived march 31 or april 1st which would make my due date jan6th. makes me wonder how many women are induced because of this.

feedmenow don't forget to add yourself to the due date list. scroll back to find it and cut 'n paste.

moosemama · 01/08/2008 21:24

Hi all

WARNING MOAN ALERT!

Sorry, haven't had time to read the thread yet but:

Back early from our so called 'holiday'. Had to give up after two horrendous days of torrential rain and gales. My lovely new inflatable sofabed was sooo comfy but unfortunately the gales stretched the stitching on the awning and I was liberally rained on whilst simultaneously being too terrified to sleep in case the whole thing took off! (Boys and DH slept in the van all nice and snugly!)

Suffice it to say my hormones did nothing to help me cope with it all, but after a night in a Travel Lodge and nice hot bath half way home I felt a lot better and we did a bit of touristy stuff in Devon (in the rain) on the way back.

We decided we would be better off if we came home and had some of the 'days out' the boys are always nagging about. Had a lovely day out at Warwick Castle in blazing sunshine with the boys today so that has gone some way to making up for it.

Worryingly we are booked for another week in Pembrokeshire at the end of August - I can safely say we will not be going if the weather forecast even hints at similar weather!

elkiedee · 02/08/2008 12:00

Welcome feedmenow.

I'm impressed by your organisation chefswife. I'm hoping that the fact my scan date moved my due date to 13 days later (now 26 January) means that my 2nd baby will be less overdue, and I'll be able to resist induction.

Otherwise I'll probably be having a baby in early February.

Sorry your holiday was such a disaster mm.

EachPeachPearMum · 02/08/2008 14:15

Welcome feedmenow.... my dd was born on 4th feb

moosemama how old are your boys? I keep thinking of going down to Warwick Castle, but not sure if dd is old enough to enjoy yet?

MrsAay · 02/08/2008 14:52

Welcome feedmenow

Mmmm just watched those utube videos and then went on to watch a few others. What astonishes me is WHY anyone would want to put the birth of their baby on the web for all to see!! I can understand why some may wish to have it on camera for their own personal records but for all the whole world to see - that's bonkers!

Frankly I'm not even having a stills camera to record the moment the baby pops out. I can think of other angles of my body that are more attractive!

By the way, I'm a second timer and have just read through some of the horror stories of others first experience of childbirth. I just want to say to the first timers, that I may have my gripes but if it really was too dreadful, then I wouldn't be doing it for a second time.

LooseyC · 02/08/2008 15:27

Hello feedmenow and everyone. I've never watched a birth video and I'm not about to start now... I closed my eyes during antenatal classes and didn't look down when giving birth to DS!

Agree with you MrsAay that childbirth must be worth all the horrors or we wouldn't be doing it again would we? I won't go on about my first time round for fear of annoying people but just to reassure you that it could be all right! Mine was actually quite OK - incredibly painful of course, but quick, no complications and no stitches.

I think I worry more about the pregnancy than birth - especially as I'm still having (very small) amounts of brown bleeding on and off. I have an appointment with MW on Friday but not sure whether to call them before then as well. I'm 15w now - anyone else had this sort of thing this late on?

tinkisagracefulshamu · 02/08/2008 15:53

moosemama · 02/08/2008 19:18

eachpeach Ds1 is 6, Ds2 is 4. They had a great time but Ds1 was too worried about the noises coming from the Kingmaker waxworks exhibition to go in and Ds2 struggled with some of the steps up and down the towers.

They also state that pregnant ladies shouldn't attempt to climb the 530 steps to the top of the tallest tower - needless to say I did it anyway even though I'm afraid of heights - what on earth was I thinking !. (My thighs are killing me today. )

There was plenty of entertainment laid on for the summer hols and the boys enjoyed everything we did really.

One warning though - its a looong walk from the carpark unless you get there early, we ended up in a field which was a good 20 minute walk before we even started walking round the castle.

If you do go, its worth remembering they are part of the Merlin Group for which you can get discount vouchers from various places, including Tesco clubcard.

chefswife · 02/08/2008 19:29

i really don't have a problem watching the videos. mostly for me it's just being prepared. i love research. i can't wait to have the experience. the woman in the second video is amazing. she is ecstatic about the whole thing, giggling even. for me, i could work in emergency situations but never as a hospital doctor or surgeon so i understand why some people don't want to see it. it is ingrained in us too through media that the experience is traumatic. there's always a screaming woman giving birth or some complication.

elkiedee i kept a record because i'm like that. hope i won't be one of those over scheduling mothers though. we stopped having sex march 18 because we realized that we didn't want a christmas baby. it's hard to separate the two celebrations... then we went out to two fab parties in a row, came home tipsy, (to say the least) and voila! pregnant. i've discovered how you get pregnant. you get drunk and don't think about it. simple, eh.

off to get maternity clothes today. DH said that it is time. i hate shopping to be honest... well, for shoes and bags, but clothes... the whole process drives me nuts. i'm taking my friend who's job should be personal shopper. she's great. i head to the change room, she brings me stuff. love it.

MsSparkle · 02/08/2008 19:44

I can't bear to watch videos about women giving birth. It makes me cringe thinking about it. I am such a wimp when it comes to pain!

feedmenow welcome

I am 18 weeks now. I have been feeling small kicks and dp is so chuffed because he felt one last night!

fourlittlefeet · 02/08/2008 20:35

evening all

hello fmn

does anyone remember when we are supposed to stop sleeping on our backs?

happyathome · 02/08/2008 22:03

hi,i'm back!
had problems for ages with broadband.couldn't get online.
hope you're all ok.Tried to catch up,but couldn't read everything.
glad all scans have gone well.
had mine on the 10th July.all ok so far.EDD put to 14th Jan.Also had a consultant app last week to discuss PPH.She says may be better this time, but who knows. She did my first ever dopplering.Heard straight away good and strong, like galloping horses. Now 16.3 weeks.Might have had slight fluttering, but not sure.Thought it was a couple of nights ago.Try to lie on my side just in case, but wake up with aching hips.Read babycenter just now that tells you to get used to sleeping on side as better that way in 2nd half of pregnancy(i presume they mean 20weeks?!).They said backsleeping could cause drop in BP in 2nd tri though so i'm not sure. What are you lot doing for sleeping?
happy and Snugs x

chefswife · 03/08/2008 04:58

in my baby book from the midwife it says to stop sleeping on your back by 14 weeks. the baby can end up resting on major arteries, slowing blood flow to you and the baby. i hate sleeping on my side. my bed isn't so great as it is and sleeping in two positions is not helping. i find that i'm not sleeping very well, not because i'm getting up to pee 3 times a night, but because i'm sleeping on my back. i am a back sleeper or very near. i wake up because i get all paranoid about how long i've been sleeping on my back. my right hip in particular is achy.

MsSparkle · 03/08/2008 11:47

I have a boomarang pillow which used while pregnant with dd and have started using it again. I find it really heplful because then i can lie on my side and cuddle the pillow and i can move to lie on my other side without having to reajust the pillow.

fourlittlefeet · 03/08/2008 19:56

My my its quiet on here! Hope everyone's been out doing exciting stuff. I've been on ebay trying to get my head around baby gear and generally avoiding the rain.

fourlittlefeet · 03/08/2008 19:57

Just sent DP out for alchohol free beer to go with the patlican kebab we are currently cooking. Yum. I made strawberry vodka last night and it almost killed me not being able to try it. Smelt amazing!

Periwink · 03/08/2008 20:09

Chefswife - I am not sleeping either and also have pain in my right hip, I guess it is all the expansion going on.

chefswife · 03/08/2008 20:30

yes it is quiet. it's a long here... BC Day.

went shopping yesterday for maternity clothes and bought some fab items... no bras though. having real difficulty finding any that aren't those boring ol granny types. i asked one of the ladies why i can't find any pushups in 34dd and she said "i guess the designers feel that large breasted women don't need any more help". i said, i find it hard to believe that bra designers have never seen porn. another lady said that it is unusual to have small women with large breasts. i don't think it is that unusual when i'm looking around town. no wonder most women wear the wrong size. go figure.

hope everyone had a great weekend.

chefswife · 03/08/2008 20:31

suppose to be 'long weekend"

actually, please tell me others re-read their posts after posting... i feel like such a nerd.

MissHairspray · 04/08/2008 16:12

Hello ladies, its been very quiet the past few days.

Please don't start throwing things but I just wanted to ask, do any of you first timers (or even second + timers) not feel overjoyed all of the time about the idea of having a baby? I feel so guilty even typing that but the truth is while half the time I am wrapped in a happy little pg bubble, i'm also starting to feel this sort of dread that my life as I know it is going to change forever, and that there is no going back now. I think its made worse by seeing my expanding bump as it just really is starting to sink in that there is a baby in there, and i'm starting to feel like everyone sees me as just a baby machine and not a normal person. Don't get me wrong, I really wouldn't change my mind even if I could, but this pg business is scary!

Thanks for listening, sorry for the self-indulgent whinge, but its hard to talk about all of this in 'real life' when everyone else is so hyperactively excited about the whole thing. Anyway am off now to watch Hairspray in karaoke mode (named after moi of course), bit of out of tune singing always makes me feel better.
