Due April 2009? Am I really the first?

Anyone else out there? Just got faint, but definitely there, BFP.

Due 1st April, according to those dodgy due date calculators.

lou, I agree with you that NHS is good for major probs, it's just the secondary things like the aftercare, help with breastfeeding, conditions in the wards etc. Having said that it's mainly hearsay from friends, as I've been abroad since 2002 in Kazakhstan, Germany and Holland, so maybe I see it as worse than it is (horror stories in the news etc)..

tic tac, sorry you feel sick, can only recommend lots of little snacks like raisins or whatever...

ScrumptiousBumptious · 06/08/2008 20:50

Gemzooks - did you say you were living somewhere that is very keen on homebirths and little medical intervention? (could scroll back through posts but feeling rather lazy and bleary eyed.) Ooh - can see you live in Holland. So what happens in Holland? Do you get many options?

NHS been good for me in the past. Had a lovely homebirth with DD1. 3 midwifes all to myself!

Gemzooks · 06/08/2008 20:57

yes, am in Holland. Basically, there is a very strong midwife establishment and 30% home births. If you go along with the system you get a home birth, with the midwife only staying with you once you get to 7 cm, but you can of course choose to give birth in hospital. You can get an epidural but only if you make a massive fuss and say you need it or have psychological problems. It's a massive debate here in Holland about whether epidurals should be given to women in labour who ask for them, it's considered like a 'fun' extra and most hospitals will only give it to women in labour within office hours! Bit of a bummer if you happen to be in labour after 5 pm!

They have the same or slightly lower infant/maternal mortality rate as other European countries, and anyone high risk has it in hospital. But the prevailing attitude is that pain is part of giving birth and you should suffer (which is totally against what I think, that pain relief is a human right, and it's very patronising to tell women they don't know when they're suffering enough to get analgesia).

Anyway.... the midwives are very nice as I know from gory 12 week m/c, so am booked in with the same ones again. But very tempted to go back to Belgium for mobile epidural, 4 days in nice hospital and constant help with breastfeeding, hospital provided everything for you and the baby, (was just an ordinary public hospital), and was very clean.. anyway it's early days yet!

ScrumptiousBumptious · 06/08/2008 21:02

I totally agree that it is up to you to decide what you want and need in terms of pain relief, and should not be denied. That's crazy that epidurals are only given in office hours! I can see why Belgium appeals. I suppose what your last birth was like has a big part in helping you decide what you want and where you want it this time.

Funny how everywhere is so different.

mathsmummy27 · 06/08/2008 21:17

Nice to hear that some people have had a nice experience. Mine doesn't even bear thinking about shudder...or I'll never be brave enough to do this again

LuLuBai · 06/08/2008 21:20

I had a really good first birth too. All went exactly according to birth plan - DD was born in a birthing pool in hospital. No complications. Went home the next day.

mathsmummy27 · 06/08/2008 21:26

Ooh Lulu what do you think about birthing pools? Would you recommend?

ruddynorah · 06/08/2008 23:01

i had a good experience too. dd as born at Leeds General. no major issues at all. had her in a home from home room.

this time we're in a new area, not far, just a bit further south, in kirklees. i think we'll be offered huddersfield birth centre as an option. i'll ask for it anyway.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 07/08/2008 00:05

Can I quietly join? LOL (if anyone here knows me in real life, shhhhhh - not telling anyone yet!)

Just got a big, bold, bright positive line immediately this morning - on cheap ebay test! Yay! Been feeling pregnant for the past week, but having imagined these symptoms before in the last few months (and wasted about 7+ preg test!) I decided I really needed to wait until AF was well and truly late before testings. So bought some tests on ebay on Sat and they arrived this morning. So, there is a genuine reason why I've been feeling so exhausted and sick/queasy! And also why my tummy seems to have just popped out - but why oh why at only 5 weeks????! Ok, this is my 3rd baby, but still! How huge will I get! LOL

Looks like I'm due the 7th of April.

So, for now I'll try to keep quiet to anyone "in real life" lol - since 5 weeks is still early days - but can't help but be excited!

DungunGirl · 07/08/2008 08:34

HELLO LADIES

Can I join? I got my BFP on Monday.

I have had a real roller-coaster ttc no.2. I was diagnosed with PCOS earlier this year after TTC for 14 months with no luck and then after killing myself, I lost 2 stone and fell pregnant in March only to miscarry 6 weeks on.

So, fingers crossed this time.

Have a DS aged 3.5 and he needs a sibling!!!

Keeping my fingers crossed this is a sticky one!

Wondering....anyone else get mild crampiness on the odd occasion? Doesn't last long, usually goes away after 10 minutes, but just getting paranoid after the mc.

If all goes well EDD is 11th April!

TicTac · 07/08/2008 08:56

Hi Dungirl, congratulations! I am getting a good deal of cramps this time round, I didn't at all with DD1.

I too am only 5 weeks preg and have a thickening waist, feel sick, horrid mouth, exhausted!

Still only a faint line on Tesco test. Going to get a CB one today.

Jumbs · 07/08/2008 09:12

Congratulations Rachel in Scotland and Dungungirl! I had mild crampings everyday for a week or so and occassionally now. Its hard not worry though, I guess especially so after m/c. Fingers crossed for a sticky one for you.

scrumptious bumptious - do you think you will go home birth again? It is kind of appealing, especially with already having one LO to think about.

Gemzooks - I've heard some weird things about dutch maternity care, like you have to put you bed up on extra high legs towards the end, and its compulsory to have a waterproof sheet!? Is this right or just hearsay?

Jumbs · 07/08/2008 09:15

by the way, is anyone else hungry a lot and totally incapable of concentrating on work? There is nothing new there for me, just worse than usual!!

ScrumptiousBumptious · 07/08/2008 09:26

Congrats RiS and Dungungirl. Yes - I've got mild crampings too. Feel quite periody still.

Just eaten breakfast and think I'm going to be properly sick. Oh dear. This is not good already. (A vanilla petit filou probably wasn't the best idea as an after breakfast treat though!)

Yes - think will probably have another homebirth as long as everything goes well. It was lovely last time.

Yes - am feeling very hungry, but not eating as much despite this as feeling so urg. It was funny yesterday as 2 people commented on how I'd lost weight. I thought it was funny seeing as am 6 weeks pregnant! (They obviously don't know).

DungunGirl · 07/08/2008 09:33

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Some of the symptoms I am having this time round are surprising.

With DS1 I had no symptoms eccept for no period and then by about week 8-10 I got evening sickness.

This time, I got slightly sore boobs ( on and off), REALLY yellow wee! and have lost my daytime appetite.

I am starving for dinner - but I just pick in the day.

One similar thing I am getting that I had with the first is that I have gone off tea!

DungunGirl · 07/08/2008 09:35

tictac

Go get that CB test! If you can the digital one even better!

It feels so reassuring to see the word 'PREGNANT' pop up on the screen!

Gemzooks · 07/08/2008 09:53

hi and congrats to newcomers. Does anyone feel like updating the list?

Jumbs, think the bed thing is for the home birth, otherwise the midwives knacker their backs..

I also can't concentrate at work. Off to Berlin tomorrow with DH and DS for a wedding.

TicTac · 07/08/2008 11:01

Dun - I did a CB digital test the day before AF due. It came bacn BFN so I broke it open (didn't believe it) and there where 2 big fat blue lines that clearly indicated a BFP so that's why I used something else. I want to see the word though like you say!

I will start the list with my details and then everyone should be able to copy and paste each post until the list is complete.

TicTac (32) TTC#2 Cycle #1 DD1 age 2.5

LuLuBai · 07/08/2008 11:33

Hi Mathsmummy27

I found the birthing pool brilliant. I only got in once I was around 8cm dilated and the pain relief was phenomenal. I felt so much better once I was in there. The warm water was soothing and it was much easier to get into comfortable positions.

I had a 9lb 1oz baby girl without any pain killers or anything. A friend of mine had her 11 lb baby boy in a birthing pool.

Other people I know have felt the need to get out for the actual birth. I think you probably have to trust your instints. Some people find they don't actually enjoy the sensation.

soundbites · 07/08/2008 11:59

tictac

Maybe you over-wet it or under-wet it....I think it says that if you over or under then it gives a wrong reading...

How many other tests have you done?

I did 3....tempted to do more but once CB gave me a positive result, I stopped myself.

I used TESCO's own, Boots own then CB digital.

I got clear positives on all! yipee!
