Ilana, i totally agree, there are better ways to di things than not feed anything for 24hrs. was merely pointing out that a baby will survive.
Cup feeding or spoon feeding is great. spoons are generally used for newborns as they can lap it up better.

CC one of my friends had a planeed cs 2nd time round and the baby was delivered straight onto her chest and they didn't cut the cord till it had finished pulsating. she breastfed, whilst being sewn up! me being naive thought this was the norm, until reading your post

Sazzles i seem to be going to the loo every 15mins, get there and dont actually need to wee

poppysocks · 14/07/2008 21:22

Great to see you and your girls too Dizzy. Slight pinkness here, but not too bad to make me feel like a terrible mother for leaving home with nothing . DD adamantly told DH this evening that she'd had a lovely time on the slide with Elvis. God knows how she'd got that from Ella!

After all the metaphorical alchohol chat, I've gone in for the real thing . DH and I have just shared a bottle of wine with dinner for the first time in 8 months and it was lovely. So there.

Hadn't thought of a birth plan for a cs. Did speak to the Dr about lowering the screen for the moment of delivery and he was great about it so will have a look at your thread CC and have a think about other stuff. And then I write it down.

ChaCha · 14/07/2008 21:31

Hi girls,
I think we have all left the grumpy corner for the day. I can't see anyone, just an open window, a few empties and some painkillers

Ilana - Was wondering where you are! Just 7 days...wow!! You sound v.organised especially for someone who is away from home, well done. Is good to read about b/f, I found the cluster feeds with DS2 very tiresome and went onto mixed feeding at just 2 months, stopping entirely at 4 i think. Really want to keep going with this one - am sure this will be a much talked about topic come post natal thread.

Keep saying baby in my thoughts and can't wait to meet it. Strange because not knowing the sex this time i felt i wasn't bonding but in the last few days I see that little cat pose when baby is draped asleep facing you on your chest and when i start feeling anxious about the section remember how the joy of it all takes over the pain. Am being a silly sentimental now i think and am off for a game of scrabble.
C yall in the morning x

ChaCha · 14/07/2008 21:34

No, not 'saying' baby in my thoughts, lol, 'seeing'...

Hope on the oblique front Sazzles. I went to the docs today and found that smidge is starting to engage, having been wedged in my hip hiccuping for four weeks on and off. I had an awful night of manic movements last night and got less than three hours sleep in all, but I really felt as if the baby was working to get in the right position if that makes sense.

I went swimming yesterday morning and while DH entertained the kids I did all kinds of spinning babies nonsense to try to dislodge the baby, frightening tourists with pregnant handstands etc. What seemed to make a difference was swimming on my side, trailing my left leg underneath and kicking it so that there was pressure up and away from my hip. The swimming definitely turned the baby from breech before the oblique stage and I felt like it worked this time too. I know you go swimming regularly, hence the full details!

I'm glad the Tom and Jerry catheter story has raised smiles. I sat in bed for ages afterwards repeating 'this will be funny later on' until I could walk again ...

I'm away for a few days in the run up to my sister's wedding this weekend. Will there be a baby before I check back in on Thursday I wonder? Take care ...

Hi All,

Not been on for a while. Can someone pass me a glass of whatever drink is on offer at the moment?

Dizzy - glad that you decided to take the girls to see mamiedixie and that it went well for them, her and you.

Have been to see doctors for scan this morning and baby is already 3.24kgs according to her and I'm only 35+1 today - yikes! Baby seemed to have massive growth spurt since last appt a fortnight ago. I have to go back in 2 weeks for CTG monitoring and Group B Strep test.

Hoping it will come early but then again I will be very if it arrives only a few days after I've gotten out of the office. Was hoping to be able to lie on the sofa and watch the olympics as at least I'm in the right timezone for once!

CC hope they follow your birth plan this time so it is less traumatic for you.

sazzles morning. i;ll take up your offer of a cuppa. cant be bothererd to put the kettle on. ds2 being a little pickle this morning, he's got a cob on about something!!

Still here munching away on ice. Anyone know if TS is ok?

TwilightSurfer · 15/07/2008 07:40

Thanks Sazzles. Monday was a rough day. Think I cried about 75% of it. I'm really worried about DD who is not handling things very well at the moment. On a dismal but good note she acted out in front her pediatrician so my worries were well documented. She's been given a referral to a therapist who I phoned immediately after leaving the pediatrician's office. The therapist sounds lovely and wants to see DD "before" I give birth if at all possible. DD's afraid because I'll be going without her to have DD2 and she's stressed because she's been wetting the bed again, even when she tries very hard not to. She's also upset that my MIL is coming although she decided upon one positive, and that's that she can give grandma a fashion show of all her dressup things when she gets here. It's just really hard on me because I'm my daughter's "person", security blanket, all-n-one everything.....which I'll still be after DD2 arrives but I have to be abscent for a few days. That makes it hard on BOTH of US. Oh to be a first-timer again..... Eventually I'll gain control over these tears and manage to give birth with a smile. My hormones right now though are hampering that process.

On the birthing front, contractions seemed to have stalled out, except for late in the evenings. My feet, ankles and hands are beginning to swell, which happened just days before DD was born. AND the baby tried to turn again this evening...I woke two hours ago to hiccups at about my right elbow level. I've been up every since crawliing around on all fours, bouncing, you name it to get her head back down. So she's engaged one minute then she's practicing for the circus the next.

Sazzles I hope Sibh's swimming plan works for you. Sounds resonable and easy as long as baby cooperates.

Expectant, wishing you three good sofa days at least!!

Dizzy, the little bit of sun you, Poppy and kids got probably boosted your smile levels so no worries. Glad you're home and all seems calm for you at the moment.

Oops, your MW needs a good reporting if you can do that. Crap service!!

Well hopefully my spirits will lift here in a few hours. I've a follow up with my doctor at 3pm regarding my L&D visit on Saturday. He wanted to see me yesterday but emotionally I just couldn't manage it. {{deep breath}} Now off to toss a load of laundry in the dryer and head back to bed.

Yes, at 20 months kids don't HOLD to an idea or issue for any length so you mostly just get the physical reactions. At 4yrs and beyond they seem to "think" about things and not always in the best of ways (slightly distorted honestly) so just makes things worse it seems. We've decided NO MORE BABY TALK from this point forward. When I'm at the hospital...I'll "really" be shopping with two of my girlfriends DD knows. And Daddy will be just going in to work as usual. I'm making him come home to do nights with her no matter that MIL will be around.

sazzles and TS my ds1 took to having a baby far better than i ever could have imagined, i'm VERY concerned about ds2 though as he's a bit of a mummy's boy and very rarely goes to anyone but me. i'm sure he'll be fine, just don't think it will be the walk in the park it was with ds1.

Buckets · 15/07/2008 08:23

Quick tip for anyone who finds themselves with a catheter: make sure the bag gets checked regularly, esp if staffing levels are low in your hospital! Just watch whenever someone comes to give you meds etc and if necessary say 'how's my catheter bag?' Mine got forgotten on the first evening, the tube got kinked and the whole thing backed up. It got spotted eventually as I was crying and begging for more pain relief (referred pain to the sacro-iliac joint, felt like I was in back labour). But then it spilled on the floor and they just left a big inco pad on the puddle, was still there when I moved rooms the next evening! Aaah, the good old NHS.

pregnancy1 · 15/07/2008 08:26

Morning everyone,
TS sorry to hear you are struggling.

LOL Sazzles, but I was more think of the line of 9monthshasn'tpreparedmeforthis..... Belcain, just in case the tea isn't quite strong enough, my parents have just emailed me the receipes for Pimms & Baileys that I promised. I'll be surprised if anyone can be bothered, but as they came from a newspaper in the 70s/early80s they made me smile, so thought it was worth posting anyway. There are 2 for Pimms, so take your pick!

Cheat's pimms
1 measure gin
1 measure red vermouth (Italian or French)
1 measure orange curacao
Mix 3 ingredients in the bottom of a tall glass, add several ice cubes and top up in the usual way with lemonade and whatever additions from the garden or fruit bowl you prefer.

Or

1 measure gin
1 measure red vermouth (Italian or French)
1/2 measure bols orange curacao
a slice each of lemon, orange, cucumber
Spring of mint and borage (optional for adults, good cover for teenagers)
lemonade or ginger beer (teenage boys prefer the latter)
Mix and give the ingredients a chance to marry with a slice each of fresh lemon, orange and cucumber per person - a couple of strawberries and a slice of lime also look good, as do mint and borage. Just before serving, top up with ice-cold fizzy lemondae or ginger beer. The best proprotions are 1 part Cheat's Pimms to four parts mixer (but 6-8 parts mixer for underage drinkers)

I have to say that the Baileys-type one really doesn't sound that tempting...
1 x tin condensed milk
1 x egg
3 x teaspoons camp coffee essence
5 x fluid oz. single cream
3 x drops vanilla essence
1 x teacup whiskey

Liquidise for 30 secs. Keep in fridge.

Enjoy & let me know if anyone gives them a go!

PS Extra poins for anyone who knows what borage is.

oopsacoconut · 15/07/2008 08:33

Morning all

All quiet on our front too - still contracting but very randomly so she may have the hint that I'm not ready yet. Although DH keep telling her hurry and come out Daddy want to meet you!!!

Over slept this morning so in a huge rush to get to work on time or shall I just be late???

Bealcain - GIVE THE TEA BACK I had the option to type this or make tea so this is the only I will have uniutl later this morning.
