That's good news MarkStretch. had mine yesterday and it's a huge relief, isn't it?

Jelliebaby I've been feeling movement for a good 3 weeks and I'm only 12 weeks tomorrow. At 9 weeks the baby is so tiny I didn't think it could make any impact on me and I thought I was imagining it at first but I wasn't. I felt DS move at about 13-14 weeks which is quite early for a first one I believe.

Has anyone told their toddlers/older children yet? I told DS (who is 3) today as I had to take him to a midwife appt and I didn't want him working it out for himself. He seemed to take the concept of me having a baby in my tummy quite well but when I asked him if he wanted to be a big brother he said "No!" and we had to have a little chat about the baby sharing his milk (am still bf DS). I think I'll get him a book about babies. Any recommendations, especially for a book that has a bit of a BF/co-sleeping/AP slant?

dinkystinky · 29/07/2008 17:19

On the recommendation of friends, we're going to get "theres a house inside my mummy" for DS when we get round to explaining why mummy looks like a weeble to him (he's only 2 and we figure that 7 months will feel like a life time to him so are going to leave it until I'm around 5 months I think).

onwardandupward · 29/07/2008 17:20

Thinking of you, Tink.

I'm 12+something and I've been feeling movement for a while, but it's a second baby, so I'm recognising the sensations from last time. And it's not every day by any means, just every so often. Where we were staying for the weekend, the neighbour starting using his wood lathe in the basement early in the morning (which makes the whole house shake, but you can ignore it) and I was definitely woken by the baby jumping around. Bloody youngest I've had a baby affect my sleep by being awake!

MarkStretch · 29/07/2008 17:56

Yes dd and dsd loved the whole thing and were very excited. I'm glad we took them now.

lardybump · 29/07/2008 17:59

Glad it all went well MarkStretch. I cant wait to have me scan (only 2 weeks to go). I had an early scan at 7 weeks but didn't see much at all....

Hope you are ok tink thinking of you!

PinkTulips · 29/07/2008 18:52

Tink, i hope no news is good news. thinking of you.

well, i'm officially pregnant..... heard a little heartbeat today at gp's was very funny as she gave me the whole 'now we may not hear anything' speech and the second the doppler touched my tummy there was baba's heatbeat... quick and strong the look on her face was priceless, she just kept saying 'well that was easy, i've never had that happen at 12 weeks'.

dd was so excited, i'd tried to explain to her last night what she might hear and the second she heard the heartbeat she came dashing over to the table with a look of total wonder on her face, she keeps talking about it now.

such a relief as i'm always convinced i'm one of those crazy women having a phantom pregnancy til i have proof otherwise!

lardybump · 29/07/2008 18:56

Thats lovely pink I bet your dd was amazed.

PinkTulips · 29/07/2008 19:00

eyes like little saucers

she's really interested in the baby so i'm keeping her as involved as possible.

ds on the other hand is refusing to be called by name, we're only allowed to refer to him as 'baby' so i may have more trouble with him

lardybump · 29/07/2008 19:05

Ah bless him, I am sure he will love being a big brother when the time comes...

MarkStretch · 29/07/2008 19:28

I have put a little picture on my profile!

LittleMissNorty · 29/07/2008 19:29

Ahh congratulations Markstretch and PT

Tink...you ok? Around?

Ohhh you lot are making me all nervous about my scan on Thursday.....

Don't need to say much to DD as she's only 13 months so doesn't really understand.

I've also felt movement for some time....much easier 2nd time around!

LittleMissNorty · 29/07/2008 19:29

Ahhhh fab pic

LittleMissNorty · 29/07/2008 19:31

I'm also prob having elective CS....crash CS last time and 26 hours of labour (to get to 2cm)....not much fun

PinkTulips · 29/07/2008 20:20

fabulous pic markstretch. bet your grinning like a loon all day since

forgot to say, gp was really helpful about the homebirth as well, she's given me a load of numbers to ring to ask around and pointed out a few times that i'm legally entitled to have one so between her and the public health nurses they'll do their best to help me get one. she's a mother of 3 herself so i think she totally got my reasons for wanting one.... was a relief to have her on board as i was sort of bracing myself for a fight with all the medical types so at least i've got her in my corner now and by the sounds of the local public health nurses are very pro homebirth as well. (makes you wonder why they're so hard to get around here if all the medical professionals are in favour of them )

MarkStretch · 29/07/2008 21:08

I have a pregnancy induced lust for Gordon Ramsey.

I love him.

TinkerBellesMum · 29/07/2008 23:19

Sorry, I've not been around today I went to my parents from the hospital as they've had Tink all day.

Heartbeat seen and no obvious reasons for the bleed. So goodness knows what it was. I'm still having a little bit of brown blood when I go to the toilet now, but at least it is brown and less than yesterday.

It's left me a bit upset because for the first time I've really thought about how hard things are and it's not as straight forward as "well I don't feel pregnant". TBD couldn't understand why I was so upset after, but it's just knocked me a bit.

Couldn't speak to PALS because they weren't in but will call in next time or try to go up there.

Tink keeps telling people she is having a sister, she taps me and says "bobba" although the baby seems to move from my boob to my thigh! I want to take her to a scan at some point so she understands better. I have quite a few scans (and a lot are for reassurance) so it's not like she'll be getting in the way.

rosieposey · 29/07/2008 23:28

Tink thats wonderful news! All been waiting with baited breath to hear how it went today and am sooo glad all seems well - Little Tink sounds pleased too - hope you get some success with PALS with regards to how you were initially treated.

Well was just checking in to see how you did today and am glad its all good xx

nadssss · 30/07/2008 08:22

Yay - am really pleased for you too. I had bleeding at ten weeks and went for a scan which showed the little baby waving its little feet - what a relief it was.

I have my 12 week on Friday and am hoping to find out the sex.

Is anyone else having problems after their evening meal? The moment I finish eating my tummy feels uncomfortable and I feel sort of feverish and sick ? and the feeling ? a sort of bloated feeling like when you have absolutely gorged yourself at Christmas ? seems to last all night. Perhaps I should be eating less in the evening but I just feel so ravenous after work.

LittleMissNorty · 30/07/2008 08:43

What a relief ....glad all is ok but can understand how its knocked you a bit!

Nadssss......I've been like that for weeks except I do actually throw it back up.....I usually eat 3 good meals a day and few if any snacks, but I just can't do it atm, I have to graze.....my "lunch" I've bought into work today is roll and salad, apple, plum, kiwi, grapes, penguin, muller light and a drink....oh and a packet of gingernuts ....which I eat throughout the whole day....and as I'm less hungry when I get home, I eat a smaller meal and keep it down. How can such a tiny baby affect my appetite so much?

rosieposey · 30/07/2008 08:50

Morning all - thank goodness for the cooler weather! Thinking seriously of going to legoland Windsor today with the girls as it wont be too hot and feel a need to get out of the house with them, its just soooo expensive though!

Nadssss its unlikely that they will tell you at 12 weeks what sex your having as is still pretty small and whilst being visible is probably too tiny to be accurate. Im desperate to know what im having and found that babybond are the earliest to scan at 16 weeks with fairly accurate results - most places wont do a gender scan till 18 weeks or so - i suppose if sonographer takes ages they might be able to see :-) good luck anyway for you scan!

Tink how are you feeling today? Better i hope, just take it as easy as you can and rest up - hopefully being as there is no obvious reason for the bleeding it should tail off (fingers crossed)

Markstretch glad your scan went well Cant wait for my 12 and a half week one now! ( only two weeks today - seems ages!) still i guess the weeks wont matter so much when we are all further along - mind you i seem to remember at towards the end of pregnancy every week mattering lol

dinkystinky · 30/07/2008 09:23

Rosieposey - there was an article in the Sunday Times (this week or last week) which had something on how to save money on family daytrips out. Apparently one of the supermarkets (Tesco or Sainsburys) are doing vouchers that get you into Legoland as 2 for 1 deals - may be worth looking into?

Tink - am glad all is ok with you and little Tink sounds so cute about her little brother/sister.

I'm resorting to eating my main meals at breakfast and lunchtime and a light snack in the evenings as just cant stomach evening meals at the moment. Am hoping its a phase that will pass... Was woken up by DS at 5.15 this morning so feels like midmorning to me already - god knows how I'm going to cope with a ridiculously early riser toddler and a newborn...

TinkerBellesMum · 30/07/2008 09:27

Thanks all. Still feeling a little sad, I guess it's made me remember how vulnerable my pregnancy is.

nadssss they're very unlikely to tell you at this stage, especially with the traditional scans, it's very hard to make much out of them. It took until I was about 28 or 29 weeks pregnant with Tink to find out she was a girl. Even then the best the MW could say was "There's no sign of dangly bits". As for food, you would be better to have 6 small meals over the course of the day than trying to fit it all in in 3. If you want some free and very good advice on diet and exercise in pregnancy, check this out. You can use me as a referrer if you like (xxxClairexxx)

Markstretch that's a lovely picture.

TinkerBellesMum · 30/07/2008 09:28

drats, xxx claire xxx no spaces

nadssss · 30/07/2008 09:39

Thanks for this - right I am going to start eating a couple of light meals in the evening instead and see how that goes. Glad I am not the only one. Thanks for that referral thing Tink - i'll do it at lunchtime.

Now that the bump is showing I am quite enjoying the new roundness (as opposed to feeling fat). I can't wait for the first time someone stands up for me on the tube!

I know the gender scan is unlikely - I am just stupidly hopeful - my sister-in-law went to the same place and they managed to tell her (and get it right!) at her 12 week scan - but I know it is a small chance. I'll just have to be more patient!
