Blimey, lot of messages today. Spent half a day up in town with my mum and DS, bought a pack of long sleeved vests in the bennetton sale. Came back knackered but at least walking stopped my back aching so much. Fell asleep early and have just woken up hence the eccentric time to be posting. Ludwig is dancing away inside.
Yep Yorky I'm planning a home water birth though I'm waiting until I'm about 30 weeks before I start booking one. I really splashed out on the last one, it was a permanently heated one that I had to add spa chemicals into for the four weeks it took up residence in the sitting room. It was lovely wallowing in it every evening with the garden doors opening but rather indulgent in terms of money and space. They also didn't provide a lockable cover so it was rather worring especially as DS who was not quite two then, could easily have got in by himself via the settee if we'd let him.
This time looking into the inflatable options. Still want it heated as I can't rely on our hot water system but won't be using it as a spa. I think I will shorten the rental periond from the usual four weeks they suggest (two weeks either side of your due date) to just two. I have only found one company that do heated inflatables so if anynone else is researching could they let me know.
Everything new born baby related is in storage so I shall have to spend a day searching for the amby and the sheets to go with it and all the other baby bumph. I have given so much stuff away though as we weren't planning on having a thrid, so I will also have to buy (or acquire) a few clothes. Next on the list is baby grows and a couple of night gowns. Luckily I haven't sold my nappies so all I need is a new set of fleece liners and I'll be OK on that front. I'm rambling. I shall put on my hyno CD and try and get some shut eye. Night all.

MerryMarigold · 11/07/2008 01:56

misdee - had to smile at all the vests. My sister's friend (who I have never even met, bless her), sent me TWENTY NINE vests in newborn/ 0-3 and I already have some from ds. They a bit boysy, but some are plain white. Am happy to send you some if you would like...

oblomov - it all sounds like a nightmare. please don't feel like you are taking up too much space. I really appreciate the 'real stuff', and your honesty. i can sympathise slightly as i was going to barts every week/ every 2 weeks on and off for the past 3 years. i was lucky that my parents would come down and look after ds while i went, but the few times they could not it was really difficult to find someone to leave him with and once i took him to an appointment (consultant's face was not funny!). if i were you i would take up dozy's lovely offer...

dozy - you are really kind. had to laugh at the magnums. have you read 'the rough guide to pregnancy'? i read it last pregnancy and laughted all the way through. i loved the part where she talks about how massive she is and the midwife is predicting a 'whopper'. then she has a fairly small baby and writes, "the rest was the magnums" . had me in stitches all the way through.

i'm trying to refrain from buying too much stuff. i don't work so money is a little tight, and we are saving for a cleaner, plus some extra help when the twins are here. that'll cost a pretty packet and a half. when i think of all the sleigh cots i could get with that it's a bit depressing! still, a lovely mum at toddler group offered me all her baby stuff (cot, bumbo, sling etc. for the 'extra' baby i don't have stuff for). how kind is that? i hope she remembers!

interior decoration...hmmmm...ds's room is a light 'tiffany' turquoise with red/ orange/ yellow curtains, a dark yellow sun shaped light, yellow wardrobes and dark yellow/ orange bedding. he has lots of bright pics on the wall most of which he's done himself! he loves looking at his own paintings. twins will get the spare room which has been recently painted cream, so cream it will stay. once i am coming back to my senses after the birth (when they are about 1 i imagine!), i will make it a bit more 'kiddie' with some funky stickers. you can get really cool ones these days. i've got a few websites on my other computer's favourites. was thinking of putting some in our room too, but it may get to be a bit too much if they are in every other room! some of the adult ones are lovely.

well, i just typed this all out before and it got deleted while i was previewing it, so i am not previewing it this time. it is 2am and i can't sleep. hope all is ok with babies and hormones...this is not usual. 4am, maybe but not this early on! there is a slug in the kitchen and i don't want to go in there to get food .

MerryMarigold · 11/07/2008 02:05

by the way, when/ how do we get our MATB1's? I have totally forgotten procedure on this. I need one to claim my nappy voucher from newham (stingy as it is: 33 quid, but I can claim two ), then I can do some reusable nappy shopping.

toolly · 11/07/2008 03:44

Merry, I'm still up too. DS very restless for some reason. Baby is still dancing away.
I think you'll have to ask for the MAT B form at your next antenatal. These things are seldom automatic.
Do you have to buy your nappies and submit a receipt or do they just give you a voucher? Do you know what nappies you'll get?

Has anyone elses skin gone weird? I have always had the kind of skin which drips 10mins after cleaning with industrial degreaser, and now I actually have dry patches on my cheeks! What is going on?

ChocOrange05 · 11/07/2008 08:51

Morning all! Its FRIDAY!!

Good luck to Ceebee for your scan today, we are looking forward to hearing good news!

Toolly can you send me the info you have on birth pools - let me know if you need my e-mail address.

Welcome to Babylove - hope you find this site as useful and friendly as I have.

BARGAIN ALERT I am very pleased with my DH this morning as last night we bought a pram!! I know, I know its very early!! We got a Quinny Buzz, it was second hand but it looked in absolutely perfect condition, the only worn part was the wheels. We got the pram, the carrycot, the maxi-cosi car seat, a parasol, the shopping basket, rain covers and a footmuff all for £260!!! (I think new its all worth about £750)

DH found it on gumtree so he got extra brownie points!

LolaBella · 11/07/2008 09:06

Morning - i'm with you on this one choc IT'S FRIDAY!!! Excellent bargain too. I wish my DH was as good as yours
Only another week left at school then we break up for 6 whole weeks - bliss.

Just wondering if anyone has a really good baby bouncer (chair) to recommend? Or are they all very similar. Would you recommend one with the vibrations on or are they a waste of money?

Good Luck today Ceebee your day has finally come around - enjoy seeing your LO

Babylove welcome also. Have you had a scan yet, or know the flavour?

bubbaz · 11/07/2008 09:23

Lolabella it is prob personal choice but I had the M&P vibrating one - It was bought for me and I'm not saying its better than any other as I have no experience but DS LOVED the vibrating bit. I think you can get them that rock as well as bounce but can't tell you what they would be like. .
Well I have started to potty train DS today not sure if it is a good idea but worth a try??
So far we have had 2 wees on the potty and none on the floor but I do ask every 30 mins or so if he needs to go!! It could be an interesting day!!!

Just had a lovely chat with a woman from lollipop and shes coming round on Monday to drop off some different wraps to try with the inners we already have so it may not cost as much as we thought, had just about talked DH into starting from scratch again which means investment
hanaflower - what if you want a different colour than green!?

Oblomov · 11/07/2008 10:50

Hana how long do the VOC's stay for ?
I am very impressed that we are all getting on with our nurserys so early.
The typical image is of a 8.5 month hugely pregnant woman swinging from the chandeliers, whilst trying to strip stubborn wallpaper.
Atleast none of us will be doing that... will be ladies - promise me you won't.

Oblomov · 11/07/2008 10:52

Welcome to the Madhouse Babylove

Yorky · 11/07/2008 10:58

My mum was painting my bedroom ceiling cos she was bored of waiting for me!
Babylove, good luck with keeping up with the chatter!
Toolly, love your pre birth spa, so luxurious, I collected mine from my brother who'd collected it from ebay for me on the Saturday, DH got back from States (work trip) on the Sunday, tens machine arrived in the post on Monday(more ebay!) and DS was born on Wednesday!

mum2becks · 11/07/2008 11:01

lolabella my dd loved the fisher price kick & play baby bouncer, it can be used just as a chair or with vibrate when they are little (the vibrate helped dd fall asleep!) and then as they get get a bit older it has a bar that goes over with flashing lights that come on when they kick their legs! dd used to get really excited with that!!

MATB1 form, I wasnt due to see my mw until 28 weeks so I phoned her last week and she said just to call in and pick one up, if you need one just give your mw a call!!

jm54 · 11/07/2008 11:10

Hi all, mind if I join? (Due 20 Nov). Thanks to Yorky for double buggy advice on another thread!

Quick questions ... I had a scan at 14 weeks and do not get another one, unless blood test comes back high risk for spina bifida/downs. Thankfully, got a low risk result yesterday. Now thinking about going private for another scan, just for reassurance really. Any thoughts?

chocolategal · 11/07/2008 11:24

welcome to bayblove and jm54!
morning to everyone else too

jm54, i am just realising how lucky i am living up in the north east of scotland with MW and scans etc, i think its appauling that you dont get offered another scan, if you have the money i would say pay for a private one.
my 20wk scan picked up my little boy has renal dilation which is no huge big deal at moment and will hopefully be gone by 34wks( getting scanned again then to see) but if not then treatment can start right away when hes born to prevent kidney problems.

its a personal choice but i know if i wasnt offered a 20wk scan i would have paid for one
okay rant over!

Bettispaghetti · 11/07/2008 11:30

MerryMarigold - my MW said I could have my MATB1 as soon as I got to 20 weeks so I called her last week and received it in the post today. Perhaps give your MW a call.

Welcome jm54 . Don't you get an anomoly scan at 20 weeks?

Yorky · 11/07/2008 11:38

Hello again jm! hoe you find a buggy you like. Wherabouts are you, I thought 20wk anomaly scans were pretty standard issue?
I would love another scan but finances just can't be made to fit , think it would be a higher priority if we hadn't had 2 though.

ChocOrange05 · 11/07/2008 11:45

Welcome jm54! Its a shame you don't get a 20 week scan, I thought that was the norm. I think private scans can be had for less than £100 so IMO its worth it. Especially as you can see so much more on the 20 week scan compared to the 12 week, although the photos are actually worse as they are all squashed up!

Thanks for those responses. I'm in Glasgow where just one scan is the norm unless there is a problem. It is frustrating because my friends reasonably nearby (but in a health authority outwith Glasgow) get 2 scans as standard, and I know this is generally the case. As far as I understand it, it's simply down to constrained resources... May well opt for a private scan, especially now I've heard your story, chocolategal!
