Merry, we are scan twins - mine is Wednesday too, still trying to convince myself I have the willpower to say No when asked if we want to know what colour it is!

Hello... Back from Majorca and had the most wonderful time (other than my slight worry at the end). Decided not to go the MW ths morning as I started feeling the rythmic feeling agan on saturday eve so even if that is something spasming it made me happy

Have read through a few posts but haven't had time to read them all so I really apologise if I miss anything up to date out.

Firstly BUBBAZ - OMG...... IS she over 18? Cos she is acting like a teenager. What kind of person would act like that? I know exactly what I would do but I like your walking around with bump on show!! I am gob smacked at her behaviour and admission to try and split you up. I tell you, if any person dare try to get to my husband, I can assure you it would eb the last thing they would do.

CEEBEE - scan news??

LOLA - I found it soooo difficult to find a nice and well fitting swinsuit/tankini. The normal ones I found rose up too much. Do the shops think our fashion sense changes when we get pregnant because the designs they have out there are AWFUL... Brown swirls etc... I did like a Blooming Marvelous one with dots on but they didn't do a tankini. I ordered the Pale green adn white swirl one in medium but when it came it was massive on the boobs and a little bit loose at the bottom of the bump. I ended up getting a tankini from Mothercare in a horrible pink/red bottom with strpey top (not that nice) and buying an absolute bargain bikini from TESCO.. £2.00 top and £2.00 bottom in pink (FANTASTIC). Decided to show bump off in the end and it was fine.

ROCA - What beautiful children you have!!

CHOCORANGE- I'm also getting the Quinny Buzz 4. Have just been quoted a good price for EVERYTHING from an independent shop round here so am really pleased.

For everyone else, thank you for your help whilst I was away, it really is scary at times not knowing what is normal and quite easy to feel alone but thank you I know you lot will keep me in order!!!!

ChocOrange05 · 07/07/2008 13:56

Pinkali do you mind if I ask what your "good price" is? For comparison - the local shop to me said £605 for carrycot + pram + carseat. DH and I are thinking of buying one from gumtree or ebay though to save some pennies.

Lola I think I missed your bikin question but I just wore my normal ones as they fit under (bottoms) and above (top) the bump so it looked ok.

Hana what's a sling show?!? (Sorry if I missed a previous reference)

Also I was thinking before (danger of eating lunch on your own!), what does everyone think about blackout blinds/curtains? I have heard somewhere that you should buy them for the nursery but I'm thinking that I would prefer my LO to be able to sleep with or without light so they can sleep anywhere without having to worry about a dark room. What does everyone else think? Anyone with LO's at the moment - what have you done?

Dozymare · 07/07/2008 14:00

blackout blinds all the way in Dozy's house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ChocOrange05 · 07/07/2008 14:03

Dozy why did you use them? Did you find it difficult without?

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:06

Hi again choc. We don't have a blackout and never did. In fact I actually got ds used to sleeping with a small light on at night from the very start as it was easier to get up and change him during the night without turning a light on - he'd hardly wake up and go back to sleep straight way. Now he has to sleep with a small light on still!!! During the day he slept fine in daylight (we didn't have any curtains in our bedroom for a good few weeks either!!), in the car, buggy, moses basket downstairs etc. He still doesn't seem to wake up any earlier in summer, so is fine with a bit of light through his window.

I know some people are huge fans of blackout, but I think it depends on what they get used to and b) your child's own sensitivity. If the baby is really struggling to sleep you can always get one, they're very quick to order on ebay and easy to fit. We got a blackout for our spare room as it just has chiffon-y curtains and it does work really well, but wouldn't bother if the baby is going to be in your room for a bit anyway, and you have curtains or blinds you like already.

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:07

pinkali - sorry, forgot to add WELCOME BACK!! glad you had a nice time and feel all relaxed and lovely.

Dozymare · 07/07/2008 14:09

Was recommended to my by a few people and those i know that didn't have always had kids that wake very very early in the summer and can't go to sleep at 7pm in the summer as it is to light......i am also a GF fan and it is recommended in there as well.....also keeps the room cool when very hot summer (not this yer then!)

mine have always slept from 7pm-7-8am irrespective of whether sun is streaming in the window or not!

I got a blackout blind so not total darkness.......

Quinny Buzz 4 370.00

Dreami Carrycot 140.00

Buzz Footmuff 45.00

Maxi Cosi Cabriofix 110.00

Buzz Basket 15.00

Buzz Parasol 20.00

Buzz Clip 3.00

Cabriofix Footmuff 30.00 (not sure need this)

Cabriofix Raincover 10.00

Total at rrp 743.00

= - 10% - 74.30 saving

Total for all above 668.70 to pay in total - rounded down!

Some people would say you don't need parts of it but hey if my dad is willing to pay I might as well get it all because it would be sods law that if I decided with baby no.2 to have the carrycot (for example) they will have stopped making it to fit). This is from a lovely shop nearby so I think I like the thought of helping them out.

ChocOrange05 · 07/07/2008 14:15

Dozy GF Fan?!?

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:16

yorky - oooh, it is hard to restrain yourself. I managed on my first, but I wasn't on mumsnet and didn't know anyone else who'd found out...then well after the scan I went to an NCT class and 6/8 people had found out, just me and one other person. I think it would be much harder if I'd known so many who had. But I am glad I didn't. I always remember the moment they hauled him out and put ds on me on my chest (sob, sob, what a moment!!!) and I just knew he was a boy and said, "You're a big boy" (he was!!) and my mum said, "How do you know he's a boy?" and dh who had been down the bottom end (despite saying he would not be able to stomach it , said, "He is a boy, I saw as I came out!". Ahhhhh...was so incredible that I knew my little son. Did you find out with your first child? If you've never done the 'surprise' thing then it's a pretty cool experience, imo. If you've done it once and loved it - go for it again! I was sooooo desperate for a girl this time that I knew I had to check the sexes, because if I was having twin boys I needed time to get my head around it! I have my girl. Soooo pleased.

misdee · 07/07/2008 14:16

scan went well, everyhitng looked good.

cant say what it is yet, as need to tell MIL, and she has friends who read here i think

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:18

ChocOrange05 · 07/07/2008 14:19

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:20

Oops. Was thinking GF was Federer (now since when does Roger begin with a G). Ummmmmm...no I am definitely NOT a GF fan!!!

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:24

misdee - I am going away! I will have to check from my parents computer. ooooooooooooooooooooooooh

ChocOrange05 · 07/07/2008 14:27

misdee · 07/07/2008 14:29

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:31

Gina Ford

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:32

oh misdee. a girl, a girl, a girl, a girl. lovin the rosebuds!

Yorky · 07/07/2008 14:32

NO, we didn't know last time, hospital policy was not to look, which makes it all the harder this time as its up to me if she tells us or not!!! I can understand my SILs line of thought that she wanted to know what it was so she could talk to him not it (due in next couple of weeks) but not knowing never slowed me bonding with DS.

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:33

Her name used to be banned on here, hence Dozy using the abbreviation. Not sure what the policy is these days, but let's not get into a heated one !

Yorky · 07/07/2008 14:34

Congrats on your pink misdee!

MerryMarigold · 07/07/2008 14:34

yorky how does your dh feel? it's quite nice to try it both ways round...it's very different knowing.
