Dazie · 18/02/2005 11:45

Is that 45 mins around loch in bad traffic? Im guessing you live some where like scotland so maybe there isnt that much bad traffic??? Have your previous children been 'quick' in their arrival?? I think eveyone worries that they will not make it in time especially when they keep saying the more you have the faster they come but both mine were about the same and Im sure at the end I wont care where I am i will just want it out!! I worry about the stiches more than anything they were the worst bit worse than labour I think, im not sure I want to go through that again!!

Miaou · 18/02/2005 11:55

Dazie, I reckon it would take about an hour, not a busy road but very windy and twisty. Add to which I would either have to wait for my parents to come to look after dds (30 mins), or dh to come back from work (either 30 mins or 1 hr depending on the day). My first labour was 16 hrs, second was 6hrs, both slowed down by epidural, so I'm guessing this could be 2-3 hours or less!

Yes I'm in scotland, fairly (but not very) remote, sparsely populated area.

Dazie · 18/02/2005 12:06

well I thought if it comes to the last minute we will take dd and ds to the hospital with us and get my parents to meet us there and take them home to theirs or ours (no matter what time day or night) that way I know they are safe. If its that fast they are going to be around no matter what we do wait or take them to my parents.

Miaou · 18/02/2005 12:10

That sounds like a sensible solution Dazie. Thanks for listening to me waffle on. I actually feel better for just getting it off my chest. Like you, dh thinks I am worrying unnecessarily!

Eulalia · 18/02/2005 14:00

Miaou - I know how you feel - I am 25 miles away from the hospital. There is a community hospital nearer but they don't 'do' births there. I have the choice of Montrose or Aberdeen. Montrose is actually nearer to here but further from Aberdeen and if there were complications I'd have to go to Aberdeen which would be about 40 miles. I hope labour doesn't start in rush hour traffic!!

For those who don't know Aberdeen its a small city compared to English standards (about 200,000 pop) but it is on the coast to the East and is also bordered by a river to the north and south so there are actually very few roads into the city because of having to cross a bridge and it can get congested. However it will be in school hols which should help.

Anyway geography lesson over.

Hope you feel better soon kate.

Well I am feeling great - I even forgot I was pregnant the other day (just for a second!)

kate100 · 18/02/2005 14:26

I seem to have said this alo recently, but thanks for being so nice to me. I feel a bit better today, my temperature has come right down, which is a relief as I was worried I had a boil in the bag baby. The pain is much easier, but the cough is still terrible, but at least I'm recovering.

Am I right in thinking that everyone is past 12 weeks now? Maybe we should start a new thread with all of our dates and details on?

Blimey Miaou and Eulalia, they are some real hospital issues and to think I was worried about the busy car park at our hospital!!!!

Miaou · 18/02/2005 14:28

Kate I know it's not funny but at boil-in-the-bag...

I think a new thread is a good idea, us poor souls without broadband are finding it takes a tad long to load!

colinsmommy · 18/02/2005 15:23

Sorry to hear how sick you are, Kate. My mom had that when she was pregnant with my little sister, and at age 7, even I could tell how miserable she was.

Right now I'm feeling very guilty about being about 4 minutes away from the hospital.

Baby and DH are still sick, but somehow I haven't managed to get it yet. Let's hear it for obsessive handwashing!

Leaving for a mini-vacation in a few hours. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Twiga · 18/02/2005 15:34

Have a lovely holiday Colinsmommy!

Sorry to hear you've been unwell Kate , glad you're feeling a bit better today, what a rotten run of it you've had [hugs], lol x

Miaou at your ferry exploits! Sorry you've been feeling so anxious about things [hug]

Dazie, glad to hear the scan went well, it's great seeing them for the first time!

Welcome to Tiggerintum - love the name!

Well it looks like my nausea is definately on it's way out, have barely been sick for over a week now and the general feeling of nausea is much less. Have developed a real tast for macaroni cheese - dh however is getting rapidly sick of it!!!

josey · 18/02/2005 16:01

glad you are feeling a bit better today kate100 sorry had to giggle at the boil in the bag though!

thats good twiga i have been that same and over the moon as was sick till the day after ds was born ugh! unfortunately inthe middle of the night but this virus seems to be resulting in a now horrid tummy bug so feeling back at square 1!

Maiou - im also a bit worried about getting to the hospital as labour with ds was only 3 1/2 hours and 30 mins of that was in a car, trying to keep calm till Tuesday eventually i will get my scan and they consultant is likely to make up there mind if i will get a section on or not so what every they deside my worries will change.
Im sure alot of your being anxious is the fact you have given up work and moved house everthing seems a thousand times worse when you have time on your hads to think about things.

Hi Tigerintum glad you have joined us

a new thread sounds good now we're into 12 weeks. us slow coaches (me) can fill in our proper stats once had appointment

hub2dee · 18/02/2005 18:45

Just had our 16 weeks mw appointment and heard the heartbeat which is always nice after a month or so... dw was wondering if it was still in there .

Thanks to wilbur for the congrats, to my co-July lingerer Eulalia, and to colinsmommy, Twiga, Miaou, josey and champs for the welcome.

I tried to feel dw's fundus on the mw's couch (ooh errr) and failed miserably. Big grubby paws no doubt. Bloods all came back OK which is a nice relief though one sample wasn't labelled so dw got speared again. You're all so brave about the bloods. I tend to pass out at the mere mention of blood extraction. Hope I can shape up to do something useful come action stations in August .

moschops · 18/02/2005 20:02

ooooooo girls (and boys as we are now a mixed sex thread!!) i had a proper hormonal fit earlier......in the middle of a normal conversation with dp i just said 'oh f off' and stormed off to the bedroom where i proceeded to absolutely bawl my eyes out

he sensibly left me alone thinking i was having a strop, and when he came down about five minutes later i nearly hugged him to death as i sobbed all over him.

i do feel silly........i've just been feeling so fed up and down for no reason these last couple of days. i do feel better now i've had a good cry.

Miaou · 18/02/2005 20:42

Moschops, I'm just the same - see my postings earlier today - am now on a complete high! Rather disconcerting for poor dh.... hub2dee I think you chaps have to put up with rather a lot atm!

hub2dee · 18/02/2005 20:49

Don't.... you're all getting me worried now. In a couple of weeks an equally pg cousin of my wife is coming to stay for a while.

Imagine living with TWO pregnant laydees

I just cannot wait

josey · 18/02/2005 21:11

yeap the mood swings are great! i totlly bit dh head off for asking if there was anything he could do to make me feel better - he has since sulked off to the pub out of my way which has turned my mood to sad and abandoned, no wonder he has gone out, he will no doubt get it in the neck when he gets home for being late!!

hehe hub2dee i really think you have a death wish wither that or you are just very very brave.

leahbump · 18/02/2005 21:21

Evening all,

Welcome to the New folk (nice to hear a man's perspective on pregnancy too Hub2dee....might pursuade dh to post occasionally!!)

Been thinking we need a stats update really ...has everyone got to 12 weeks yet?? Can we do one with 'revised due dates' ??

Feeling nervous about this pregnancy and can't wait to feel baby move properly...either that or hear a hb at my 16 wk appointment next week. I wasn't this nervous last time!

I am planning a homebirth. Looking forward to it, just can't decide wether or not to make it a water birth too (been reading up on MN but still hmmm and ahh about it). So there's a few of us thinking home birth!

Also planning on seeing a reflexologist regularly to help with the awful late stages of labour (that seem to be coming sooner this time) and hopefully help for a smoother birth. Well at least I enjoy having my feet done..and it really helps the energy levels!!

Glad that everyone is ok.

Anyone got names yet??? I have although they might change of course!

champs · 18/02/2005 23:47

hi all!!
rofl@ H2D!! are you mad!! i cant even put up with myself so have no idea how dh is copping!!

koonelly · 19/02/2005 07:59

hello all, i feel i can now finallypost a message here as i have made i past 12 week . ( i've had previos m/c's so didn't want to get up hopes) Am due about 30/8 wasn't sure whether to post on aug or sept threads but think i will probably have to have a c section earlier so here i am.

hub2dee · 19/02/2005 08:51

Congrats to koonelly. Welcome. Hope everything continues swimmingly.

champs and josey - you two sound like a right handful at the mo. Go easy on your fellas: remember, you're gonna need us when you can't tie your own shoelaces.

leahbump / all - Whilst having dp / dhubbys on these threads might kind of spoil your 'girls' night in' IYSWIM, I think you'll find the more us blokes get exposed to the stories of sickness, the emotional rollercoasters, the worries over scans, m/cs, the delights of early flutters etc. etc. the more useful they will be.

(And I'm not saying that guys don't think about this stuff, or understand it, it's just that reading it first-hand, from lots of different pg laydees, rather than from yet A N Other glossy text book, let's us more clearly see that our precious one hasn't kind of lost the plot IYSWIM).

Twiga · 19/02/2005 09:43

Morning all! We have snow here , well a sprinkling anyway. Dh and I have got the weekend off together which is ace, have just got my cuppa in bed and have sneaked on here while breakfast is on the way - what a star! Need to think of something useful/original to take to my friends babyshower tonight - there isn't a list and don't want to end up buying the 50th set of muslin squares - any ideas?!

Twiga · 19/02/2005 09:48

Also, big welcome to Koonelly and congratulations on reaching 12 weeks - there are a few folk on here who are expecting ater a mc, so do share any worries you have. Colinsmommy and I are both due on 31/08, so you'll have company on this thread right the way through!

ds is excited about the snow but we really don't have very much. But its due to stay cold so

Koonelly - congrats!

Twiga - hope you have a nice weekend off - can't imagine that...its been a long time!

Re the hospital - actually its dual carriageway most of the way. I don't expect any problems getting there.. I imagine Miaou that the road round the loch is single track?

Well we are off to a NCT sale this afternoon. Kids need new clothes.

Got to go ds has lost his gloves

Miaou · 19/02/2005 10:32

Cetainly is Eulalia! That in itself isn't a major problem, it has plenty of passing places and hardly any traffic - but it's VERY twisty so you can't go that fast. Anyway I have resolved not to worry myself overmuch about it as yet - it's still a long way away!

Welcome Koonelly to our mad little world!!!

josey · 19/02/2005 11:14

well as predicted DH did come home very very late woke me up mad me angry then he promptly fell asleep and snored the house down, so i have steam coming out my ears today headache tht had gone yesterday is back (due to lack of sleep no doubt) and he s still in bed with a hangover no doubt ggrrrr! So hub2dee i think i will be more that a handful today!!
Had some snow here too last night but it seems to have melted i was hoping it would be so bad i didnt have to go to Inverness and meet relatives i cant be bothered seeing.
ok grump over promise.

oh Maiou i hope you will ave plenty of sick bags with you saying that i think i would get Dh to book me into a nice hotel near the hospital for a few weeks.

Hi koonelly and welcome as maiou so rightly put it our mad world
