I actually miss it less than I thought I would. Used to be a relative piss head. It helps that people expect you not to drink though. Though I was also surprised how few people noticed I wasn't drinking in the first 3 months, as long as you don't make a fuss and occasionally have an alcoholic drink in your hand which you just drink a tiny bit of they assume you are drinking as much as normal.

waitinggirl · 25/07/2008 14:57

on hols in hot sunny portugal was the first time i really really craved alcohol - had a couple of sips of ice-cold portuguese lager (yum) and then discovered they do alcohol free versions. not great, but certainly better than nothing - tried those?

EffiePerine · 25/07/2008 14:57

Timothy Taylor mmm - a brewery I think rather than a beer? Love TT Landlord...

Summer Lightning a great book as well as a great beer . I think PGW had a midnight inspiration on the name then found there were a million other books with the same title (but went for it anyway).

DS has been enjoying Tom Waits, I put it down to exposure in the womb. Will check this one for country music tendencies

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 15:02

I don't think they do alcohol free real ale but I have tried Becks alcohol free and that is very good, tastes pretty similar to the real thing.
That Kaliber stuff that is always the default stuff in pubs is vile though.

Purple79 · 25/07/2008 15:11

Went to Ibiza at the end of June for a long weekend my SIL 30th, was planned way back in JAN, all i allowed myself was a couple of glasses of sangria which was lovely - but will have to try the BECKS out.. didn't know they did Alcohol Free!

hattyyellow · 25/07/2008 15:14

Thinking about it I've got absolutely sozzled err a grand total of once since err October 2004 (got pregnant with my twin girls in November 04).

Even if DH looks after the girls the next day, I never seem to make up the sleep and a hangover takes weeks to clear - I've always been really bad at handling the booze anyway - I was always the one who ended up with my head down the loo as a teenager whilst everyone else carried on without a problem!

I feel old! I want to go and party and drink lots and not have to get up in the night with ill/tearful children.

They are all worth it though .

Might try a Becks alcohol free - I remember having them last time around and they were nice very cold.

LadyThompson · 25/07/2008 15:15

Hatty - my girl likes a bit of hip hop. Don't know if it's the talking or the beat.

PD - a girl, lovely! When I knew I was having one I just thought "Hooray - dolls!"

Waiting - one of my ankles is swollen every day and the other one comes up about once every tow or three days. I think having one swollen ankle is common but get it checked out given that you have had an injury/

Youngvisiter - ooh, do you work for a publishing company in London? I work in an 'associated industry'....

I've been doing yoga locally in a class, which is great fun. On summer holiday now, but starting again on 2nd September. Most of the people in it were much more pregnant than me. In our last class, we had to write down a list of our fears for the birth. I hadn't thought about it that hard so wrote down one quick one. the teacher asked a few people what their fears were and it was intervention, what if they didn't love their baby enough, fear of episiotomy. Thank GOD she didn't ask me what I'd written as my fear. I'd put "I'm worried I'm going to do a poo while I'm pushing and my husband will see". GOD ! How shallow can I be?? I confess I am worried about it, but was SO embarrassed that it was all I could think of.

Obviously I'm now worried about the other fears now as well!

Beans33 · 25/07/2008 15:37

PS Purple if you live near Battersea I can give you website for my yoga - 6.30 on Tuesdays from 2nd Sept

LOL @ beans, I am sure it would have got a slightly embarrassed laugh if you had read it out
I think that will be the least of your worries at the time. If I am going to poo i shall tell hubby to stay away from the business end of things! Though not sure I will know??

rosmerta · 25/07/2008 15:42

The no alcohol Becks is actually quite nice, it still has the alcohol taste iykwim unlike Kaliber which is just nasty!

I might start treating myself to the occasional glass of wine, though I must admit in this weather I am missing Pimms!

Beans33 · 25/07/2008 15:44

TBH Summer, I think you're absolutely right. I won't give a erm monkey's!

One of my friends had a baby recently and I asked her if she had done a poo while pushing and her DH, who was involved in another conversation completely, leant over and said "sh*t everywhere". Then went straight back to his conversation as if nothing had happened. Made me cry with laughter!

Purple79 · 25/07/2008 15:47

BEANS LOL - But its a very REAL worry! I'm sure everyone else had that written down anyway. I prob would've put the same if it makes any difference. Am still gigling

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 15:49

I am really not worried about that! give me undignified and disgusting over pain any day!

LadyThompson · 25/07/2008 15:52

From what I read on MN, crapping yourself during labour is sadly unavoidable as the baby's head kindly presses on your bowel on the way down I will miss this oh-so-special treat with my c-section but won't be missing out on the indignities (painkilling suppositories, which I am sure I will in any case be mightily glad of), plus midwives having to change your maternity pad etc for when you are too weak to do it. Ho hum!

Beans33 · 25/07/2008 15:54

hee hee.

My sister was also telling me that when she had her epidural, she was bursting for a pee, so they brought over a little tray for her and she said she did the longest, most satisfying pee of her life and even did that shakey thing afterwards when you're really empty and pleased.

She said she'd finished and they took away the tray - completely empty. Extraordinary!

Noooo! I don't want to poo myself!

Friends keep trying to tell me their labour stories (section last time) and I keep sticking my fingers in my ears and la-la-la-ing.

Beans33 · 25/07/2008 16:01

hee hee! I actually now do want to poo myself just to see DH's face! I have requested him head end, but if he's keen to go business end, then he'll have to live with the consequences.

HAHAH!

LadyThompson · 25/07/2008 16:02

When my Mum had us she was given an enema before labour to prevent disgracing herself on the delivery table! That's what they used to do then! I think it stopped in the 1980s.

rosmerta · 25/07/2008 16:02

I didn't want to know any labour stories first time around on the basis that people only ever tell you the worst ones!

Beans lol!

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 16:04

I am worried that DH may pass out if he goes down the business end. Now that would be disconcerting!!

Beans33 · 25/07/2008 16:04

I think an enema sounds very sensible!

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 16:06

Beans you are so funny!! that is such a change of heart there!
Next week: What are you hoping for from the birth?

Others: Easy delivery, good bonding with baby, natural delivery, etc.
Beans: I would like to have a poo so i can gross out my husband.
