Just back from my scan. Measurements all fine, everything where it should be and it's a girl! Must admit I thought I'd be more excited about having a girl as I've always wanted a daughter, but I was kind of hoping for a little boy playmate for my gorgeous DS at the same time. Mind you I remember it took a couple of days to get used to the idea after finding out first time around as well. Already been on the blower to my Mum to put the word out about no pink frilly stuff. And now we've got to start arguing thinking about girls' names. Oh no!

Ooh did someone say London Fields lido? I live 5 minutes' walk from there and it's the best thing about living round here (that and the great children's centres). To my shame I haven't been since going back to work after maternity in March (too busy & knackered with work, pregnancy & breastfeeding). I really need to get down there - if I wasn't going to the London meet-up tonight I might actually drag my bump over there after work. Today's a perfect day for it - so hot and muggy. Downside of living here though - I've also got mice. Can't face traps or poison but the humane ones are just crap.

Lots of interesting discussions about childbirth, pain relief etc. but this thread moves so fast I can never keep up in time to post! Still, I'm sure they'll come around again between now & December as the panic sets in...

waitinggirl · 25/07/2008 13:49

i can second tara lee yoga dvd - have been doing it every other day for 2 weeks now and loving it. also supplementing with weekly class in finsbury park.

great news about LadyT's scan (and not a little amusing). hurrah!

btw - i sprained my ankle while on hols last week - having done it before, i knew it wasn't broken or ligament wasn't torn and i iced and iced and have been pretty mobile since, but having got back home it has really swollen up. should i be worried? i know swollen ankles are par and part of the course for pregnancy, but it is only the sprained one which is swollen and it doesn't seem to be getting better - anyone have any ideas?

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 14:00

Everyone has said so much since I last read this! What a chatty lot...spent yesterday off work with friend who has 3 month year old baby...shame the baby chose that day to be properly ill for the first time, lots of puking up, etc. Not good to see my friend so stressed about the poor little thing! (I am sure she is fine though, with a little stomach upset, hoping I don't get it though) Hmmm...anyway hopefully it was good training...but would have been better to do a little more gossiping and a little less stressing.

Congrats on all the successful scans everyone, mine is next Fri as I think lots of others on here are too?

Re London I moved out four years ago, thought I might miss the place but have not looked back....hate going there now, though it is nice to see my friends cannot be doing with the public transport and pushing and shoving.

However, am jealous of those of you who live up north where there are proper hills and interesting countryside. Cambridgeshire is SOOOO flat. Hopefully one day we will move somewhere more hilly!

Veggiemummy · 25/07/2008 14:10

waiting a week later does seem a long time maybe being mobile hasn't helped might not hurt to pop to your GP for them to have a look. Also even if it is just a sprain it sounds like a very bad one so might need some physio.

aaahhh the Lido, so lovely on a day like today to swim outdoors. Maybe i might pop over when i'm down for my pamper weekend to have a bit of a swim. I used to catch the bus over do 1500mts then run home. Was good triathlon training. would be waddling back to the bus stop after about 400mts if i went now. there used to be great cute little veggie restaurant not far from hackney central, it was just like a house that they put the restaurant in, it was called Pumpkin something, oh and the vietnamese restaurant on mare st.

EffiePerine · 25/07/2008 14:13

that vietnamese restaurant is lovely. We're near Stoke Newington with its great curry places and cafes .

Veggiemummy · 25/07/2008 14:17

yeah i'm next friday too summer.

Poison i'm feeling like you but before the scan, i feel like it's a girl and i would love to have a girl and DH really wants one but also i would love to have another boy because i love DS and think another would be good for me and for him. Oh will too late now it's in there cooking will just have to wait and see.

Purple79 · 25/07/2008 14:21

PD Hi, Great news about your scan - i loved the name picking part, even though i'm still admittedly not to sure on our girls name - Amber - i preferred Amelie.. im working on it though .
The best mice traps are the sticky pads - but they are pure evil, my MIL had mice and she used them, i couldn't do with the little blighters squeaky all the time trying to free themselves. eek!

waitinggirl Hi, i would say that if it doesn't go down within the next day or so.. i'd go the doctors as you may have chipped a bone, my DP did that in his knee - was painful & swollen for a while.

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 14:24

I have decided not to discuss names too much as I told my friend potential name for boy (we have only thought of boys names so far as nuchal scan said probably boy), and she laughed and thought I was joking
I don't think it's that unusual a name!!

EffiePerine · 25/07/2008 14:26

Congrats on your girl

No, def don't mention names! They can scoff all they like after the birth, provided I don't hear it

theyoungvisiter · 25/07/2008 14:27

I agree Lightning - or else they will remind you that XXX was also the name of that notorious murderer/school bully/slutty actress/porn star/best friend's baby/whatever... SOMEONE will have a bad association with your lovely name!

Better to just to choose one you and your dp are happy with and let everyone else lump it!

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 14:31

My surname is Taylor and everyone at work is calling it "Timothy" after the beer as our software releases are always called after beers.
I am getting quite attached to it now though! Hmmm...and my login name is named after a beer (and a mountain bike trail on the n downs)...are you noticing a trend. I am missing beer.

theyoungvisiter · 25/07/2008 14:33

I thought it was after the PG Wodehouse novel! LOL - can you tell I work in publishing and don't drink beer?

Veggiemummy · 25/07/2008 14:34

i'm sorry i love beer but i didn't know there was one named Timothy.

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 14:35

Hehe, if there is a PG Wodehouse novel called summer lightning then I am sure that came first! Then the beer, then the bike trail.
I am not a fan of PG Wodehouse, so didn't know.

Purple79 · 25/07/2008 14:35

I could'nt help it i've told near enough anyone who'll listen our chosen names.. will know for sure on scan day which one i'll be needing.. roll on 13th August which is a bit of away away.. JAKE is our chosen boys name.. see! just can't help myself

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 14:36

"Timothy Taylor" - it's a real ale brewery, I think it's a london one, or at least a southern one.
Maybe I would get away with it then!

hattyyellow · 25/07/2008 14:37

I miss London. Especially in the summer. Although I have so much respect for those of you who have to get the tube pregnant, that can't be nice in summer . I love walking along the river.

Am working at home and trying to meet a million deadlines by listening to music while I type. A friend sent me the link to this tune on youtube - I remember it really well from my sixth form days.

uk.youtube.com/watch?v=REvijHyUpH4&feature=related

And babe is going mad listening to it! I haven't even got it on that loud, but after a day of listening to classical and mellow tunes - this little one is definitely a housey girl - I am being kicked to bits as it wriggles about!

Found this article that bass frequencies travel through to the baby better - maybe that's why it loves this song so much!

www.bbc.co.uk/music/parents/features/wombmusic.shtml

Oh dear, I wonder if I'm going to be droning "fascinating rhythm" endlessly to the little one at 3am in the morning if its the only song that gets it to sleep! With my girls playing Holst worked well and Coldplay .

hattyyellow · 25/07/2008 14:38

We get Timmy Taylor round us - would give anything for a cold alcoholic drink in this sunshine!

Purple79 · 25/07/2008 14:42

I second that hatty

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 14:44

I am still drinking a little bit but I could do with sitting out in a beer garden of an evening and drinking 3 pints and getting a bit tipsy. Though I would probably be a bit more than tipsy after 3 pints right now

Veggiemummy · 25/07/2008 14:47

DS liked classical and i contemporary rock, but hated faithless i was listening to Insomniac one day and he was going crazy in my tummy and i really felt like he didn't like it so i trned it off and he settled right down. Now he is bigger he tends to g for the same stuff he liked on the inside.

Veggiemummy · 25/07/2008 14:49

i'm such a lightweight, with 3 pints i would well and truly be under the table.

SummerLightning · 25/07/2008 14:49

Would be fun though, wouldn't it?

Purple79 · 25/07/2008 14:50

I used to be a right party girl before i got pregnant - thought giving up drinking would hurt! But have cut it right out - apart from the odd Spritzer every couple of weeks or so - @ the moment a beer garden sounds delightful as im sitting in an ice cold office!

hattyyellow · 25/07/2008 14:54

Veggie that's interesting that your DS likes the same music he did in the womb. My DH used to play Scottish reels to our DD's and they now dance around for hours if we play them to them.

We went out for pre-school mums night out on Monday and lots of the mums were knocking back ice cold Pimms - looked lovely .

I had some champagne at a christening last month and it tasted vile, just all sour and wrong!

I just seem to go off the taste of booze when pregnant, although not the idea!
