thanks starlight, so it's for bruising but not stitches.
Lucky you with your bags of goodies! Apart from a small box of my little brother's cast offs we've not been given anything . I kept reading that loads of people buy/give the baby clothes, but sadly not in our case (not even my mum, and I thought she'd go crazy). Hence more panic buying at Mothercare today.

So we've been trying to pack up the house all day. Well, didn't start til 10.30 as p got in from a night out at 5.30am, and I wasn't going to start on my own - plus it's pretty much the first proper sleep in I've had in over 2 years!

There's just so much STUFF though it feels like it'll take forever - haven't even begun on the kitchen or upstairs. Help! And I was hoping I could go away to stay with a friend next weekend / the re-wiring start then. But we haven't even ordered a new kitchen either, and p is starting up a new business too, so not much free time..... I'm worried that if I don't go away sooner rather than later, I'll end up giving birth in Wales, miles from anywhere....

Told next door neighbour I'm pregnant today, and she was most surprised. I do have a bump though - perhaps everyone assumes I have been eating even more than usual lately. P did say I looked overweight rather than pregnant the other day. What a charmer!

Poor you eandz - sounds like a horrible cold you have.

DG the shops are always heaving, maybe it's all the sales. I haven't found M&S very helpful either. Plus they disapprove of underwires if your pg or bf. And last time I went (pre-pg) they basically told me I could only wear full cup bras because of my boob shape AND fitted the bras really badly too. Find Bravissimo much better

meglet · 20/07/2008 19:26

digital just wait until the baby turns up and see how much you end up with . We had stacks of clothes after a week, even DP's pool team gave us clothes and a bottle of wine. I had to spend one evening trying to get it all organised with my sister.

eandz sorry to hear about your cold and your teenage sister .

meglet · 20/07/2008 19:29

as the thread is starting to fill up.........it's suggestions for new thread time!

how about - Due Sept 08, Last chance to do your pelvic floors ladies!

potxola · 20/07/2008 20:43

I need to confess. I have not been doing the pelvic floors and I am suffering the consecuences. You know what I mean.
I too have been given many clothes from 3 other mothers, mostly pink, but I am used to it now.
Very pleades with myself. I bought a buggy board for only 16.00 in a second hand toy and baby shop.
Eanz glad you are feeling better.
Who told me ebay was adictive. You were sooooo right. I have saved a fortune. I will have to sell back lots of things in 6 months in ebay. Is it as easy as buying from ebay?

potxola · 20/07/2008 20:45

StarlightMckenzie ARNICA, is it good for after C-sections too. Is it a cream or tablets?

Re pelvic floor - I've been really lax too and thought I was getting away with it until we played Cranium on holiday and I was laughing so much that I had a little accident!!

Apart from games in the evening, the holiday wasn't that great. 2 weeks in a caravan in France with a very active toddler (17 months) just didn't work as it rained for several days and she hated being cooped up in the caravan. There were no facilities for under 4s on the campsite and we found it more stressful than being at home trying to entertain her. Also she normally sleeps really well but was massively out of routine and kept waking up too hot/ too cold/ who knows why and wouldn't resettle so we were knackered a lot of the time. Coupled with no running water or toilet for 3 days, then no gas for another day (EVERYTHING went wrong with the caravan that could do!) I was in tears more than once and we nearly came home early. We are now looking at Kinderhotels for next year!!!

Re birth plans: well I've had a change of heart (I think!). I was intending to have an elective c-section but now we're getting closer I think I'm going to go for a VBAC after all. I've written a birth plan (thanks Starlight for the tips) stating I want an Epidural asap and absolute minimum of internal examinations until I've had it as they terrify me. I'll also have to be on a drip with antibiotics for Strep B and have continuous monitoring so I imagine I'll be on my back anyway so may as well have the Epidural! The reason for the change of heart is the recovery - I don't want to be in hospital away from DH and DD for 3 or 4 days again and I don't want to not be able to pick up or cuddle DD for 6 weeks. I also want DS to have the chance to decide when he wants to make an appearance instead of being lifted out a week early. I realise I may end up having another emergency c-section but I'll give the VBAC thing a go (unless I chicken out again before my 34 week consultant appointment!).

4 weeks left to go at work. I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow so 9 until D-Day. I'm getting some mild BH. Last time I took raspberry leaf tea capsules in the last few weeks and they brought on really bad BH so I stopped and they went away again! I'm feeling big and heavy now and struggling to lift DD (which is unavoidable when DH isn't around as she can't get herself in to the cot/ car/ highchair!). I'm getting impatient now for DS to come out and for me to be able to do these things again (as long as I don't have a c-section). I really feel for those of you suffering with SPD. Last time I had bad backache for most of the pregnancy but I've been seeing a chiropracter this time and so far am fine. My hormones are much worse this time though. Part of it is tiredness but I have days when I am very down and cry and others where I'm fine. Today I was in tears because DH was working and I was lonely. I find weekends can be hard as all my mummy friends are with their DHs who don't work shifts! Fortunately a (single!) friend texted and we were able to spend the afternoon together but I knew it was the hormones as I even had a rare lie-in this morning as DH wasn't working until the afternoon and let me go back to bed, so it wasn't tiredness!

Oh well, 9 weeks to go and maybe he'll be early! Although my guess is 25 September (3 days late) and DH reckons it will be 2 October (God I hope not!). Wonder who'll be next.....Eandz?

micromum · 20/07/2008 22:40

Hi all,

Sorry haven't put in much input, by the time i've caught up its to late to write anything. I,m starting to pannic a bit now as have nothing ready, ie moses basket is still in the loft and 5 1/2 weeks to go. Waiting for the nice weather to start and get all the washing done.

Sorry to put another update list sooo soon after the other one but i wasn't on it.

I took arnica (tablets) 2 weeks before i was due in my last pregnancy and for 2 weeks after and it seemed to really help with recovery, ie i tore a bit.

After having 3 children, 2 things i really sugest buying and wish i had known are:

Wool fleeces (for cots or moses baskets) babys sleep really well on them. It keeps them cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather. (John Lewis)
AND
Sleeping bags,(when in cot) the amount of time the babys have woken because the blankets have come off.

One more thing, with my last child i never used any sudo or nappy creams as i had read in an artical why put on nappy cream if nothing wrong let the skin breath and build up its own defence, best thing i ever done, only time she had problems was when she was teething and i put some on then.

Good night x

lollipopmother · 21/07/2008 07:58

Hi people, I haven't been on for a loooong time, I've just been so busy at work and also in the garden - we're completely re-doing it ourselves from top to bottom so it's very time consuming.

Today is my first day of maternity leave, it's bliss thinking that I won't be going back to work for a very long time!

I've noticed that there are two very early arrivals on our due-date list, are they both ok?

mustsleep · 21/07/2008 10:39

morning everyone

hope you are feeling better eandz

well dh knocked out our built in cupboard in the kids bedroom and we swapped our furniture over so that they now have the bigger room (can not believe how much crap we have!)

although we will have to get a skip as the garden looks like a building site again! just need to get a builder tocome and cut a doorway into the wall and then we're well on the way to splitting the bedrooms

where is the summer? was realy looking forward to having all of august off work but it looks like it is going to be spent indoors!!

hopefully · 21/07/2008 10:52

Just caught up with the weekend's posts! Can't believe we've nearly filled another thread already. I wonder how many we've had...

Alll quite quiet here, had wedding of distant family member of DP's on the weekend (at which DP's dad got drunk and was ridiculously rude about my family, who he met a few weeks earlier, but I am choosing to rise above the rudeness)

Am feeling quite organised at the moment, the 'I-haven't-got-it-yet-' coloured bits on my shopping list spreadsheet () are slowly disappearing in the wake of the 'finally-bought-it' coloured bits. Hospital bag is still woefully half empty, but I have bought most of the stuff I want for it.

Bought a load of fruit at the weekend, and it all smells really yummy every time I go into the kitchen - I may have to go and attack the melon in there!

mustsleep · 21/07/2008 11:04

omg hopefully keepon forgetting about a hospital bag!! am having a hb but wantto pack one just incase

keep thinking i nearly have everything bar a moses basket stand and then thinking of things to add to my list

biglips · 21/07/2008 14:06

mustsleep - i must do mine too (the hospital bag) as i promised myself that i would do it over the weekend but i was so busy so will have to do it tmrw or thurs when my DD can help me.

the other night i woke up with a bad tummy ache and my tummy was rock hard whilst lying down...it woke me up so i had to get out of the bed and walk round abit.

im 32.3 weeks today.

ive found some sugar free boiled sweets from the local chemist...its the travel sweets one in the tin. Its not as nice as the sugary ones but at least my mouth doesnt feel stale since ive stopped eating sugary things (as i noticed the past 2 weeks ive been craving sugary things and now ive got abit of sugar in my blood - arrgghh). im not really missing the sugary things though!! strange!!!!

About Arnica, which did u prefer - tabs or cream?

i havent done any floor pelvic exercises and also havent oiled my (cant remember how to spell it!!) private parts as i keep on forgetting!!

biglips · 21/07/2008 14:10

oh and ive noticed that im pressing my fingers tips on my right side belly as its more of the baby leaning on my belly nerve and i noticed today that im really starting to walk slow as i cannot walk any faster or otherwise the belly nerve feels like im in stitches.

digitalgirl · 21/07/2008 14:49

biglips I tried doing a perineal (was that the word you were looking for) massage the other day...was far too difficult. Do you need to 'oil' it if you're constantly leaking watery CM??

Apologies in advance, but here is my rant on my physical ailments:
SPD has returned to original ache levels. Getting up, walking, sitting down all hurt.
Feet are getting puffier by the day, I only have to stand for 2 minutes before I can feel them tingling and itching. Putting them up only stops them from getting worse, but doesn't really make them better.
Hands hurt if I stop using them for 10 minutes. Carpal tunnel particularly bad at night and can't grip the duvet enough to wrestle it back off DH.
Have started to get ligament twinges quite low down now.
Today for the first time I got a weird lower back throbbing cramp. Wasn't quite sure if it was the baby leaning on a nerve/vein but it was uncomfortable and very unnerving.

Hormones: Actually cried in Boots yesterday because I couldn't remember the words for 'pencil sharpener'.

Spoke to my mum today, she's booked three weeks off around my due date to help! Hooray!

6 weeks to go till I'm off work! 9 weeks till due date! Scared and excited all at the same time

Sassafrass · 21/07/2008 15:06

I finally got hold of the maternity allowance people to ask about my claim. Just getting the phonenumber was a quest in itself. To my horror, they have a huge backlog and it might take 4-6 weeks before it's processed. Makes me feel rather worried about how we're going to manage. Luckily we got a big payment off tax credits a couple of weeks ago as I had been underpaid and I've put that away for next months rent, but things will be rather tight for a while =/

DebitheScot · 21/07/2008 15:07

Hugs digitalgirl and you don't need to apologise for ranting. That's what we're here for. You do sound like you're having a tough time at the moment.

You've reminded me that I need to ask my mum what her plans are for coming down here. I'm not sure what she's thinking and I'm not sure what I want her to do!

I went to a soft play place with ds this morning and he insisted on me going round and playing with him. That was hard work and I kept getting stuck! He wasn't quite understanding why I wouldn't go through the roller things with him!

lollyheart · 21/07/2008 16:09

Gosh Sassafrass is that another 4-6 from now or when you sent your claim? ive been waiting nearly 6 weeks to hear about mine at least we will get back pay.

I dont think this baby has much room left to move the movements are quite painfull it takes my breath away sometimes.

im getting leaky boobs to i have been getting nipple cheese but i can squeeze and get quite alot out. 3rd time lucky with bf i hope i dont fail again this time i fed dd for a couple of days and ds for a week im hoping to feed for at least a yr this time

Not much left to do to prepare now i only have to get baby clothes out of the loft to wash and put away and pack hospital bag but i wont do that till 37 weeks.

I have just noticed a Due April 2009 thread! It makes me feel like I have been pregnant forever. Ditto everyone's thoughts and feelings on various aches, pains, swellings etc.

digitalgirl I know it doesn't help you but you made me feel better! Do keep up the ranting if you need to, its great to have an outlet here.
jearund I'm so sorry the holiday wasn't restful. We've agreed to go on holiday with parents until further notice, coz unless we get some sort of break from the children then we'll just come home more tired than we went away, and dd also wakes up earlier on holiday than at home. zzzzz.

Well, tonight operation flatpack commences. We've got the remains of last night's chinese take-away to fuel us through, and dh has come home from work early (he's playing with dd in the garden right now ). I keep pointing out how much needs to be done before we get to the point of actually building the wardrobes - namely dismantling the old one in the spare room and moving all the bits down into the yard, vacuuming where it was, wheeling the wardrobes from our room through to spare room, vacuuming where they were, and moving all our bedroom furniture so we've got the space to build the new ones...and no doubt doing a lot more vacuuming. We have to build the wardrobes in situ coz they're only 4cm shorter than the ceiling height! I fear tonight won't be an early one...then of course there's moving dd's cot into the new room, making the blackout blind, and moving all her clothes and stuff.
But it will be wonderful to have dd in her new bedroom. Then I can start getting all the baby stuff out of the loft and turning the small room into a baby nursery again full of teeny tiny vests and the top and tail bowl and all the little things! I know we won't get it all done tonight, but I'm hoping we'll be done by the end of next weekend.
Of course none of this takes into account the fact that I'm the size of a house and can't bend or lift and need at least 10 hours sleep a night
