Congrats beepbeep and no tearing at 10lbs! So wish I could have births like that! Look forward to seeing pics and hearing the name.

pigleychez · 30/06/2008 12:53

Blimey!

Now im never going to get anything done at all! Mumsnet AND Facebook!!!

ButterflyMcQueen · 30/06/2008 12:55

beepbeep congratulations!!! wow fab size did you know what you were having?

re the rude people!! It IS odd because last monday i was in harrogate shopping and so many people were jumping forward to help me- a lady picked a flip flop up that i was trying on as she thought i could not reach it in monsoon!! another ran to help me with my buggy!

maybe it is the difference beween Leeds and Harrogate!

well i know that i have only 2 weeks max left as i will be induced on 14th if baby not here by then. the hospital have agreed to my request even though it is not on medical grounds which is lovely of them...

still hope it comes before but it is nice to know wont be two weeks over!

ButterflyMcQueen · 30/06/2008 12:56

june is lovely but lets hope july is sunnier we can all chill outdoors with our neonate

Heffagooday · 30/06/2008 13:01

SK - I was reading that sex is also good because orgasms can start uterine contractions. I guess that makes sense, although it's quite a lot of pressure on DH!

JODIEhavingababy · 30/06/2008 13:01

Look here for the hand reflexology chart. Your looking for the Pituitary Gland..
And here for the foot

CilC · 30/06/2008 13:02

Butterfly we are "going in" on the same day! My planned c section is booked at 8.30 Monday, 14th July! Two weeks today....yeah!!!! Apparently that is Bastille Day!

JacobsPrincess · 30/06/2008 13:17

Ugh! Just walked DS to playgroup, and feel like I have to keep my knees together to keep this baby in! Today was original due date, but sonographer put it back to 9th July. Could be any day... [wishful thinking emoticon]
Just joined the Facebook group too!
Do you reckon the reflexology stuff works? I only went to a reflexologist once, when I was 9 days overdue with ds1. I'd read it could get things going. However, sceptical DH wouldn't let me go on my own and sat there heavy breathing and huffing and puffing in indignation so it wasn't easy to relax. Also, lady was really New-Age and kept going on about my colours and third eye. Which REALLY peed off DH and had me trying very hard to stifle giggles. Do reflexology and "aligning your chakras" hippy stuff always go hand in hand? I ended up feeling like I'd had a nice foot massage, but nothing else happened and DS was pulled out with forceps 3days later!

JacobsPrincess · 30/06/2008 13:21

Jodie - just looked at those reflexology mapas. I have a verruca right on that toe point!!
And it that were I should massage the clary sage? Or am I just getting confused now?! (It really doesn't take much to confuse me nowadays!)

Heffagooday · 30/06/2008 13:30

Jacobs - we were taught reflexology at school (personal development classes at a girls school) and it all seemed very normal. We were taught how to do hand and foot massages, and I do find that massages feel much better using some of those techniques.

I worked in a crystal shop for a while (FIL owns a large chain of them) and some people there were into chakra aligning. It seemed very different to the reflexology stuff, so I don't think they always go hand in hand. I read a lot about crystal healing (which does often tend to have a lot to do with chakras) at that time and some of it made sense; some of it didn't.

JODIEhavingababy · 30/06/2008 13:32

Jacobs Princess, You don't need anything to massage the pressure points, just do it while you watching tele or whatever!

My reflexologist isn't a mad old hippy, he's a mad old (retired) english teacher. He's been doing it for about 30 years and he's fab! I've been going every 2 weeks since about 16 weeks, just to help with acid refulx, swelling, relaxing etc, but now I'm going once a week to see if he can do anything about shifting this baby! I went once with DS, and I went into labour 2 days later!!!!

JODIEhavingababy · 30/06/2008 13:40

JACOBS - Just read what you've put on FB about your name - how sweet!!!!!

min912 · 30/06/2008 13:43

Not to be stupid but if you just massage your thumbs generally including that area wouldn't that have the same effect??! Or does it have to have intent and specificity behind it?

JODIEhavingababy · 30/06/2008 13:46

Good question MIN - not too sure... I just concentrate on that bit and think positive thoughts. Obviously it hasn't worked yet though!

bebejones · 30/06/2008 13:46

beepbeep big congrats cant wait to see pics!!

pigley I have swollen feet on and off quite a bit. They are always worse when I have been busy and doing lots of stuff, especially if the weather is warm. Found that I just have to keep them up and drink LOTS of water. Sometimes they feel really tingly (bit like pins & needles). But they do go down, a bit, and weirdly my right foot is always worse!!

bebejones · 30/06/2008 13:47

Meant to say, off to join facebook group!!

Polyxene · 30/06/2008 14:07

Congratulations beepbeep! Glad someone else managed a June baby, 'cos it's not going to be me...

Blast and double blast it! Cervix still very high and tightly closed, so no chance of a sweep. I had really hoped not to go overdue with this one, but I don't see any hope of him coming on time now. Another appt in a week, at which we will discuss induction; I'd really rather not be induced, but then I'm not liking the alternative either, as the longer he stays in the worse my risk of another 3rd degree tear is (not to mention being totally fed up by now of the pain and the crutches and the wheelchair...)

Well, enough of the 'poor me's! Oh, and good luck to Libra1975 - agree best to check with midwife; the other possibility is it could be a show - 'gushy' on the loo like that was how that was for me last time, and I did wonder if my waters had broken but it turned out to just be show.

RUMPEL · 30/06/2008 14:09

Hi All,

LIBRA - My Mum is Anne and Dad is Tommy so no June

RE Bellybutton - my friend's bb was brown (almost black) and like a wee finger poking out and it turned out it was hernia! She had to get it operated on when her DD was a few months old. Coomon to get pigmemtation there though - I had linea nigra with DD but none this time, always get pigmemtation around my nips though and on my face.

BEEPBEEP - well done you - huge baby! Has he a name yet?

Poppy is our name for a girl too I hasten to add we did choose it 8 months ago!

LOL at your hippy reflexologists. I am a beauty therapist who has also studied complememtary medicines - shiatsu, reflexology, thermal auricular therapy all sorts. You would probably think I am a bit weird too but I also studied Western medicine ( a bit) and they make sense if you know what you are on about. I always try to keep it 'real' when faced with sceptics - use terms they can understand etc, not too airy fairy. Reflexology is fab and I massage my feet every day (DD had started trying to copy me now. Intention can promote things IMO ( that's because I believe in energy and cause and effect though) however, stimulating specific points can help to promote effects within the body/mind connection.

LI 4 - acupoint - at the top of the fleshy pad between the forefinger and thumb - good for headaches/teethache and elimination (ie pushing baby out).

Solar Plexus reflex point or Kidney 1 acupoint - on sole of foot directly below the ball of the foot in the middle (where there is a natural dip)

Massaging the unterus/ovaries reflex points - the outer and inner ankles.

SP6 acupoint - powerful point - 4 fingers width above the inner ankle, slightly dipped under the edge of the main leg bone - it feels very sensitive to touch and quite ouchy!

Well must go awaken DD - she had a cold (please don't let me catch it) and I too cannot sleep at night! My back is really really sore now too.

It is unfair that just when you need to sleep to pace yourself for labour and feeding every coupla hours you cannot becasue you are the size of a garden hut and every time you roll over it hurts and is a cuffuffle!!

Incidently I started a thread about back to back labours if any of you are interested.

JacobsPrincess · 30/06/2008 14:12

Thanks Jodie, I was sure not all reflexologists were mad old hippies! I would have preferred something more "clinical" (not really the word I mean to use, but can't think of a better one at the moment!). I'd like to try it again, but don't dare mention it to DH!!
Bebe - it's always my right foot that swells first too. How strange!
DH just come home early from school (not as bad as it sounds - he's one of the teachers!!!) with a letter the LEA are sending all the children home with today. They are going to close three of the town's schoola and replace them with two academies. Sounds like bad news to me, and I'm sure DH will now be in constant state of stress over redundancies. And with a baby imminent! Could the timing be worse?

disneystar · 30/06/2008 14:23

hi ladies

just got back from consultant and i am going in next tuesday on the 8th for induction

i didnt want to but the option is any longer and baby could be in trouble with his head and heart problems

i was offered a c-section for the 14th but refused i really dont want to be laid up longer than i have to
as i have to see to my son 24 hours a day as it is
my dh is so excited me apprehensive but at least i have time to get things ready now
last night i was in bed and felt a trickle of water come out
jumped up well as quick as i could and it def wasnt urine it was clear and no smell was checked out today and told poss hind waters
i guess im scared as i hate intervention ive agreed to one ve for pessaries and only a ve every 6 hours unless i ask
epidural before they break my waters i def know what i want
ok ignorant question i have never been on facebook is it like this and how on earth do you use it get started etc?
beepbeep big big congrats to you and baby well done!!!!

sweetkitty · 30/06/2008 15:05

Well I am not in possession of the homebirth kit, well am tripping over it in the kitchen don't have a clue where it's all going to go, we are v tight on space in this house. Two huge canisters of entonox, two of oxygen and all the resus equipment (scary).

Rumpel - I think it was the inner ankle point I was told to focus on last time.

polyxene - shame about the sweep, try not to fret too much about tearing again I had a second degree tear with DD1 and nothing with DD2 even though she was 3lbs heavier and 4 weeks later. Have you put it in your birth plan that you are scared about tearing again, was it due to forceps? Remember second time around your body knows what its doing more hence it should be easier on you. I know people who have had third degree tears then nothing. I have put in my birthplan about tearing and making sure I have a controlled pushing stage and don't just push like hell to get the baby out but wait.

jacobprincess - sorry to hear about your DHs job, my DP has had to change jobs due to restructuring about 4 times in the last 3 years, every time he joins a team he's like the kiss of death they get disbanded and reorganised, I think it's par for the course for big companies not schools though.

disney - sorry I know you didn't want induction but you still have 8 days for it to kick off itself, at least you have a date to work to and you can plan childcare around it etc and also you know it will all be over on the 9th, I don't think it will take long for you to get induced one sniff of a gel and he will be on his way.

Facebook just go to www.facebook.com click to join and put in some details and away you go, you can then search the Groups function for "July 2008 Mumsnet babies" join up and thats you, it's quite easy even I can do it and I struggle with these things.

Mummywannabe · 30/06/2008 15:31

Congratulations to beep beep! Wow 10lb!

Peanut - pleased charlie is doing well.

Re:Belly button - mine looks bruised too

Finished last essay about 1/2 hour ago! Yipee, this one can arrive when they want now. 39 weeks tomorrow!

Had huge emotional outburst again last night, wondered if i should even have got pregnant (have no idea where that came from), felt guilty afterwards for thinking it. I think i was just overtired and overwhelmed. Feel so much better today. I'm so excited about meeting this one can't believe i felt like that last night .
