hugs to penpal and hush spotting is incredibly common! Get it checked out asap to put your minds at rest though... the worrying's awful! Best of luck to you guys....

I'm not doing well with my hyperactive 1 year old I ignored him loads yesterday! And we think he's teething (he aint got none yet lol) he was up at 4am and wriggling in our bed and moaning on and off till 7 when he decided 'right I'm up!' so to my utter shame I plonked him back in his cot for 30 mins for a snooze.... I'm so exhausted and he wants soooooo much attention and god knows how we're going to get to any of his toddler groups this week!!.... I bet the rest of you second timers are having exactly the same prob!

SusiS · 22/02/2005 09:14

hush: i don't think there is anything to worry about. seems like many on here have spotting early on - but to put your mind at rest, go and get it checked out!!!

fastasleep: yes, always that trouble with those teeth!!!! no fun - and so very exhausting! - it'll pass soon

RudyDudy · 22/02/2005 09:34

hi all

agree that you should get checked out if you are worried hush but it is probably nothing - especially if you had it last time.

fastasleep - all sympathies . Have told DH we are definitely stopping at 2 - this is hard enough with one little one running around, I can't begin to imagine what it would be like with 2!

we'll be finding out the gender - not least as we find it really hard to come up with names and so want to focus our efforts. Am thinking of having some village-fete-style "guess the name of the baby" when we know for ideas!

Hope all are doing well. Just a few more weeks and we can all be blooming 2nd trimesterers

madness · 22/02/2005 10:36

Don't want to know the sex of the baby although, especiaaly after the CVS last time I was curious to know the sex of the baby...
Still don't feel pregnant. No sickness. But either something had gone wrong in case I can't do anything about it, or it has still to come. In both cases I thought it would be a "good" idea to stuff myself a bit with some chocolate....

cori · 22/02/2005 11:08

I am definetly going to find out the sex. I think it is going to be another boy, though really want a girl. I found out last time for the same reason. It helped me to prepare myself mentally. As this will probably my last pregnancy, and if my prediction is true, I will need to come to terms with never having a daughter .
On a brighter note, It will be lovely for DS to have a brother

ButtonMoon · 22/02/2005 11:10

The sickness has started!! Feel sick unless I am eating...also still really tired....going to bed early every night (to counteract DD's sleep patterns!?) Just been to GP and booked MW appt...end of March, I'm sure it wasn't this late last time (I'll be 11 1/2 weeks) Considering the idea of a nuchal scan but not sure whether I have to inform the MW or just go to the clinic off my own back IYSWIM. Had the blood test for afp at 16 weeks last time and came out low risk but I felt that would have left things too late to consider any options... Not sure what to do really, will have to have a chat with Dh......
Hope the symptons aren't too bad today for you all

Woodelf · 22/02/2005 12:09

Marinda, thanks for info re nuchal scan; I knew you had to have it before 13 weeks but didn't realise 11 was the earliest. Am going to phone GP anyway and find out if I get scanned at the clinic or just bloods and where is my nuchal scan appointment...

Penpal: I can't imagine what its like to be pg when youve got other littluns . This will be my first and I have the wierdest sensation that it could be a boy. Very odd as my previous pregancies had me convinced they would have been girlies. Dunno, just a change in energy I suppose. Friends don't seem to have the hidden agendas that families can have and aren't usually projecting their own views onto you - or at least less so if they are real friends!

jessicasmummy · 22/02/2005 12:34

well.... guys.... whats foods have you all gone off? just made myself eggs on toast for lunch, took one mouthful and was like "i cant eat this".... im the same with bacon!!!!

SusiS · 22/02/2005 13:02

basically all food together
forcing dry toast down in the mornings but can't really eat anything till late afternoon.

jessicasmummy · 22/02/2005 13:05

im probably the same, didnt eat breakfast, and lunch just didnt happen, so hopefully tea will be ok tonight, ate the whole lot last night, and had only had a jacket potatoe at lunch time

morningpaper · 22/02/2005 13:10

I'm living on ready-meals because I can't face cooking. Feel guilty that I'm probably stuffing the poor bean with chemicals already.

Feels a bit depressing reading the threads at the moment - seems like there's so much bad news around. Feeling much more scared than I thought I would with no.2. Still, 7+4 so should be optimistic...

Constantly feel sick but managing to eat little and often. I'm just exhausted, even lifting the kettle is hard work. IS this normal? I just don't want to go out or do anything - not helping with the cold weather and snow mind you. It's still snowing here in Kent. Snow always cheers me up but not today just feel fed up, anyone else feel like this???

Kiwifruit · 22/02/2005 14:09

I feel constantly sick too - unfortunately trying to counteract this by trying to find something I feel like eating - not good! Have also been feeling exhausted, but seem to have come right in the last couple of days (although have been well looked after by DH, so might play it up for a bit longer ). Boobs also not so sore, which is great - maybe I'm coming out the other side??

SusiS · 22/02/2005 14:10

oh yes!!!! same here! constantly feeling sick (who called it morningsickness?????) and every time i lift ds i get that pain in my groin arrghh - dp just decided to go upstairs and get some sleep - he is soooooooooo ill hmmmmm - i should start dinner but just can't face it!

triceratops · 22/02/2005 16:25

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone who is spotting. Hang in there babies.

I feel rubbish. Ds is getting to watch far too much TV and I am eating like a horse (only less salad ). Can't wait for that magic 12 weeks when I can relax a bit and stop worrying and I stop feeling sick. Dh keeps asking when I am going to start feverishly doing the housework like last time.

jessicasmummy · 22/02/2005 16:52

so am i the only one feeling pretty much normal??? Im a bit tired and off my food slightly, but dont feel sick as such, for the first time this year i have even made an effort and started dinner for dh coming home - well i hope he is impressed!

Joseyjo · 22/02/2005 16:55

Penpal, Marinda,

I am having an early dating scan because my son had a chromosome disorder and died after 3 days. sorry to bring this up again everyone, but easier than getting them to trawl back down hundreds of posts!! i didn't know there was a risk of miscarriage with an internal. strangely enough that doesn't make me feel better. however i need reassurance that this pregnancy is going ok, so i iwll do whatever i am told to. anyone else heard of mc risk with internal scans?

Lexie100 · 22/02/2005 17:54

The nurse that did mine did not mention it and i'm sure she said it was fine. I'm not worrying about it. I have another scan with her on Friday so will ask then. Found this .....

"The fetus is seen by performing an ultrasound scan through your abdomen. However, at this early stage an internal (vaginal scan) would have to be performed to allow the fetal anatomy to be properly examined. Ultrasound scanning is an established procedure which is thought to be safe and does not harm the fetus"

morningpaper · 22/02/2005 17:55

No need to apologise Josey Jo.

Not heard of a mc risk with internal scans - surely SHAGGING would be more disruptive?!

I've just been given back all my pregnancy books that I had leant to a friend. I had a flick through and I was surprised at how ANGRY they made me feel. I think I feel like they are such a con and failed to prepare me at all for labour, birth and a newborn baby. The chapter on labour in Miriam Stoppard's book has a heading which says "Deciding to use pain relief." Like it's something you sit around pondering. I know people need these sorts of books but why is no one honest about it?! Why don't people just say "Look, you've got a massive baby coming out through your twat, what happens in that labour room 99% down to LUCK, and if you get through it without psychological and physical scars you will be LUCKY, it is the most awful torture you will ever have had to endure and no amount of preparation will make a tiny bit of difference."

Sorry for the rant!

On a lighter note... my SIL (her DS 7 weeks) said that this book was very good and writen by a human. I have started it and it is good.

The rough guid to pregnancy - Kaz Cooke

morningpaper · 22/02/2005 18:05

Yes I've read that one - much better than the rest I agree.

In What To Expect When You're Expecting, I just read that if you are craving chocolate or other 'bad' foods, trying doing something like knitting (it ACTUALLY says that) to take your mind off it.

I'd like to SLAP anyone who told me that!

OP posts:
morningpaper · 22/02/2005 18:09

(Stoppard again) "At 12 weeks, you may notice your first weight gain."

HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!

marinda · 22/02/2005 18:16

Lexi feel EXACTLY the same - am constantly knackered and the cold weather and snow is making me feel worse- it's too late in the year isn't it ? We could do with it at Christmas not at the end of bloody february.
Oh morning paper what a way to put it ! I have had a laugh !!! It does need to be said like this though.
So sorry Joseyjo for bringing that up - little did I realise ((hugs))
Actually felt like a human for part of the day today !!

SusiS · 22/02/2005 18:16

lol mp - joining your mad laughter HAHAHAHAHA

might dig out all my pregnancy books

RudyDudy · 22/02/2005 18:25

Joseyjo - I had an internal scan the week before last and they didn't mention any risk involved and I'm sure they would have done. It really isn't that intrusive (as someone said, probably less than sex) so I can't really see what harm it could do.

Lexie - all sympathy . Hang in there - we will get to 12 weeks!!

I read the Kaz Cooke book last time and really liked the style. I have to say I'm not enjoying this pregnancy at all so far and feel like I am just treading water until I reach the magical 12 week mark. Today has been a real struggle and I nearly cried with relief when I got home tonight and then again when DH surprised me by coming home early so he could do DS' bath. Obviously me harping on about feeling shite has had some effect at last

Am about to have my unhealthiest tea ever - chip shop fish and chips. Haven't had them for about 2 years (since the last pg probably!) and have been thinking about them for the last 3 hours! I know it's ridiculous but I am quite unnaturally excited about it.
