petit my dh claims its a rubbish mag for girls - yet he always reads it!!

PetitFilou1 · 24/06/2008 09:28

Not sure about Vita cyteen, reminds me of Ryvita but maybe that's just me.

I like Flora but dh goes all schoolboy (obv we're not having a girl anyway) on me and says you can't have that 'flora spreads easily' I like Mabel too and all those old fashioned names - they would have/were all vetoed by dh though.

Please no-one call their daughter Melina as it means 'blood in faeces' in the medical world. Dh nearly spat his coffee out when he heard someone shouting it to her friend once ...

Buckets · 24/06/2008 09:37

I'm still looking for boys' names beginning with C or G and more than one syllable, if anyone's feeling namey? Nothing public schoolish (eg Crispin).

PetitFilou1 · 24/06/2008 09:44

Callum
Cameron
Connor
Christopher

all the G ones I can think of are very out of use at the moment
like
Geoffrey
Graham
Gordon !!!

off the top of my head (right really have to do some work now)

Sazzles - I love Charlie but we already have a William so I don't think we can go there!

PetitFilou1 · 24/06/2008 10:22

You could still have Charlie if a girl anyway couldn't you - Charlotte? Aaargh MN is distracting I am going to have to turn it off!!!

Shazza2002 · 24/06/2008 10:27

We are also having a Charlie if it's a boy. Although DP hasn't entirely agreed yet. Nor does he like the girls names. We just can't really agree on any!

sarahnh · 24/06/2008 10:36

Good morning from a very spots Sarahnh!!!! man i felt like i was dying last night, i even remember thinking to self that labour won't be as bad as this itching... but i am kidding myself really...

After trying yesterday to get pirton and a stupid doc saying mo, have been to the midwife this am and she said i could take it.. just waiting to collect a prescription... which means i could have taken in last night and not been up most of the night arghhhhhhh

On the suject of hospital bags, haven't even considered mine yet, but don't know anything about arnica.. what does it do, when do you take it and where do you get it from???

Has anyone started taking raspberry leaf tea yet??

Baby has turned and is now facing head down which is the only great news i have today but knowing second time around the do disengage i'm keeping my toes crossed!!!xxx

Sibh · 24/06/2008 10:36

Hi all, I've been lurking and listening for days, but DH is marking A levels online so not much chance to post.

Lilah is lovely and Vita too I think--DS has been making suggestions for months along the lines of Biffo, Pedal, Farka etc. but has now put us on the spot with a viable middle name in Julia. A bit wary of having to explain to any possible daughter that she is named after the mum of her brother's imaginary friends (jim and jack) ...

Thanks for all the hospital bag stuff. I must get started on that. It occured to me though that packing the odd thing for DH doesn't go amiss. Having a DH moaning about being too hot after dashing to the labour ward in jeans and jumper is no fun, so shorts and tshirt for him are going in my bag. Lots of chocolate too--they fired lots into me whenever I got wobbly with DS1 as apparently its the 'birthing unit' equivalent of an epidural.I'll need to hide the bag from DH though as ate it all before we got to the ward the last time...

Hope everyone is feeling well today ...

I work with a Melina - never knew that's what it meant

Also there are 2 Mabel's here. Seems that Singaporeans go in for quite old fashioned names for their 'English' names as we also have a Geraldine, Germaine, Agatha, Florence, Serene, Agnes, Belinda, Daphne and Rita (and that's just the girls)!

Then again I also have a colleague called Cactus.

VintageGardenia · 24/06/2008 11:12

Good morning.

Chocolate as the labour pick-me-up reminds me of Harry Potter being fed Honeydukes chocolate after seeing Dementors! I wonder what the closest Muggle equivalent of Honeydukes is. Green & Black's perhaps, though I can never quite gobble it as always thinking Christ this mouthful alone cost 50c must savour must savour!

My Hot Milk delivery arrived today, the cherry bomb bra (was it you considering, pf?) is Very Nice Indeed and I must admit to ordering the knickers too, very pretty. The bra fits well now with a little room for expansion. The band is quite wide and the cups let down with little snap things easily with one hand. The only thing I wasn't expecting is that it is very slightly padded (something I don't normally go for) but it's not much and it probably makes a difference when you're stuffing five breast pads in to sop up anyway. And it's red and white and has a pretty print, so I think will be most cheering on blue days. Lucky I was at home today cos the postman ALSO delivered my Liz Earle order, DP's West Ham dvd (surprise for him to watch on his birthday, frankly I would rather stab a fork repeatedly into my thigh) and ... three unexpected books from Persephone books - what is all this about? is a lovely surprise but no note, nothing. Did someone send me a present??

Wrecked wrecked wrecked. Got a letter from mat. benefit people saying acknowledge receipt, will let you know decision. ??? Great, thanks. I am starting my leave in early July, if they decide I can't have it I will be ringing in sick every week for six months!

Yes I bought 40 raspberry leaf teabags yesterday and am supposed to have one cup in am and one in pm from now on. Haven't tasted it yet, chickened out this morning, I loathe herbal teas.

Arnica - afaik you are meant to take the strong tab, 200c, certainly one before the cord is cut, and then dosage as recommended by homeopath (or the dispenser) for a week I think afterwards. It promotes healing. There are homeopathic birth kits you can get which have arnica, aconite, pulsatilla and various other things, with a list of dosages etc and when to take. You can get them in Nelson's, if there's a Nelson's near you. Don't take advice from me I am not a homeopath, but ask at the counter.

So I am about 35 weeks and from now on I am supposed to:

  • Quaff raspberry leaf tea as if were finest champ
  • Do perineal massage daily (shudder)
  • Do pelvic floors morning till night and also when I wake up needing the loo

Why is there so much requiring EFFORT? Ouf.

VintageGardenia · 24/06/2008 11:13

LOL at Melina.

What is medical term for "dreamy birth, perfect child" - I'll have that one please, you can keep your messy Melina.

hahahahahahahahahhaaaaaahaaaa cactus what kind of stupid name is that!?!?!! Am also ROFL.

Today ladies, my entertainment will be a trip out to Asda megastore. How jolly exciting.

Aww, I got 2 teeny weeny knitted cardigans in the post this morning from dutchoma, a lovely lady off the Christian prayer thread. They are sooo cute .

Expectant · 24/06/2008 11:49

There's also a Twinkie!

VintageGardenia · 24/06/2008 11:51

Any good male colleagues, Exp? Anything I could use for a wee boy cos I think it's what I might have? (for absolutely no reason btw)

Buckets · 24/06/2008 11:52

Don't think Cactus is any stupider than the woman on Babycentre naming board who named her DD Banjo Elizabeth (despite mucho mucho flaming. I, being nice, merely pointed out that she will have to get used to seeing the look of horror in people's eyes for the rest of their lives.)

One of my guinea pigs is loose in the undergrowth of my garden since yesterday afternoon. Serve her right if the local fox comes to visit. She seems to be having a whale of a time but her pal in the hutch is giving off a definite pining air.

alittlebitshy · 24/06/2008 12:03

I wonder if Cactus is named after the lovely cactus garden in Singapore airport expectant lol (we stopped there on the way to Nz).

Have had a man in to clean my carpets today. Hurrah. Lovely and clean, though still soggy.....

So far today I have: cleaned kitchen, received a parcel (ordered bits to use on breastpump my friend is lending me), confirmed a playdate for dd, and totally cleared the digital camera (bear in mind dd had sports day on Thusday there were also pics from her LAST sports day stilll on there. I had uploaded them, just not deleted them) and am ready to help dd put her butterfly pics onto her pink memory stick after school today! Want to do some laundry but a) it means walking on wet carpets to get upstairs, b) I've just put some more unblocker stuff down the drain that the washing machine feeds into and don't want chemicals spilling out onto patio. Soap suds from machine fine, chemicals, nooooooooo.

Dh and I need to sit down and have a proper chat about names. We've talked about it laods, but not lately. We have a vague shortlist - but I keep going off names we've previously listed. Also we promised dd that we'll give her the final shortlist for 2-3 names for each gender and let her chose which one for each, so it's not a chat dh and i can continue unitl the surgeon starts on the c-section .

After my deliberations about slings/wraps last night I found myself dreaming about them AGAIN. I must sort this out cos it's disturbing me having these dreams.
.

PetitFilou1 · 24/06/2008 12:05

It is a shame I'm not having another girl as I was thinking of Travesty or Clamydia

or what about Stripes Montgomery for ds2? (dh is in the airforce (yes, also a Dr) so nice military sounding name don't you think?!)

On a more serious note, VG I think I will be purchasing that bra set but not until closer to my due date when I have finished expanding . While we're on the subject of breastpads - can I recommend the washable ones to anyone who wants to know - much better than those soggy disposable ones...

alittlebitshy · 24/06/2008 12:07

Ooh - i reckon today will be New thread Day! Am excited to see what twilight comes up with this time!

A question ladies: Bear in mind we're Aug 08 (yeah yeah Dizzy and miamla I know you're July laydees officially), for those of us (eg me ) who have the babies in July, do we join the Aug08 postnatal or the July one. It's something that has been worrying me (good god I'm hormonal aren't it?). I like you ladies and don't want to have to make new friends or gatcrash.....

alittlebitshy · 24/06/2008 12:09

petitfilous which washable ones in particular??

I have a supply of disposable ones at the mo cos of my keaky issue, and also a friend gave me a few bixes, but I am interested in other options longer term. Do you change them less frequently? How many would you say you need? Are they more absorbant? etc etc......

alittlebitshy · 24/06/2008 12:09

keaky??? meant leaky. Obvously .

PetitFilou1 · 24/06/2008 12:15

albs - lanisoh are the ones I've used in the past. They are just comfier and you just stick them in the washing machine in a little bag (no fabric conditioner as that makes things less absorbent) so very easy. I don't remember needing to change mine that often really (I don't mean I wore them for a week or anything obviously!) I'd also recommend getting a breast shell for the boob you aren't using to feed if you are a leaker - as I've always found milk poured out of the other side while I was feeding and it was much easier to stick the shell on to collect it and then chuck it away afterwards (Avent do them) or you could always freeze it if bothered!
