Sazzles - i too have one on bed and so whilst ds1 is engrossed in mickey mouse writing his name and counting! i'm mumsnetting and ebaying...oops did i say that?? i meant tidying and cleaning of course

pregnancy1 · 23/06/2008 08:25

OOoh - fingers crossed sarah - keep us informed.

Miamla - I got loads and loads of info on classes from my midwife (based in sth wdfrd health centre). We had 3 classes on relaxation and preparation which were given by the physio dept (v useful) and have 3 more on parentcraft (no idea!). They are special ones for people like us who live in a diff borough to Whipps x. This next set are at 2:30-4:30 every weds starting 9th July - let me know if you don't have any luck tracking them down and I'll bring the phone number in with me tomorrow (or post it tonight). Also recommend a tens demonstration they do at 7:30pm - think they are every month - I went on the one on the 10th June, so should be another soon. Don't have to book and really just a sales pitch to get you to hire one from them, but I'm happy to take all pain relief on!
Right - must dash. Am being audited today so will be out of the office for the rest of the day (please think of the giant pregnant woman wandering around a train station with an environmental auditor .

CaptainCaveman · 23/06/2008 09:57

Good morning all!
Just to cheer you up, here's what the next few days have in store for us weather. Doesn't look too bad eh? Must get on with that washing.

sarah I do hope your gp will see you today, sounds bloody awful you poor thing. Hope to hear from you soon with a diagnosis.

miamla I may take a little trip down to the market to purchase some materials. I really am a b e g i n n e r. Any suggestions on an easy project to start on would be gratefully received .

And yes ladies, I was joking about packing thongs in my hosp bag. Good Lord, what kind of fool do you take me for? I was actually planning on going knickerless

bealcain · 23/06/2008 10:19

CC are you ok after friday nights show(?)

CaptainCaveman · 23/06/2008 10:46

All good ta bealcain - it could have been as the mw suggested and just "old gubbins" from the bleed. I'm unsure as it was definately jelatinous and not at all like discharge consistency ifswim? Anyway, enough about whats falling out of my nether regions for a monday morning!!
How are you today?

Shazza2002 · 23/06/2008 11:03

Morning ladies

I have tried to catch up on all the weekends talking but have failed miserably. I get the gist that everybody is generally ok apart from sarahn with her rash.

I did try to log on at weekend but problem is we have 1 laptop in house, and I always moan at DP if he spends longer than 10 minutes on, does he not realise he has to sit there watching me whilst I watch crap on TV

Anyway, including today, because of days off booked, working from home days and appointments I only have 12 days left at work!!!!! Something I get really excited about, until I realise the reason I'm going to be off, and how much hard work it's going to be.

cyteen · 23/06/2008 11:09

Shazza I finish work this Friday, yippee! I honestly cannot wait now, am knackered by the walk into work and just can't be arsed anymore.

Something I have noticed, though, is that DP and I are both feeling quite solemn a lot of the time. Lots of Serious Thoughts about our future and how different life is going to be with a little one. Sometimes I wonder what the hell we are doing having this baby, although of course that doesn't mean that I don't want it...I guess it's natural to consider the big life stuff when such a massive life change draws near, and a lot of the things that people say makes having kids so worthwhile is pretty intangible until the child is actually here.

CaptainCaveman · 23/06/2008 11:23

Aw cyteen it is such a huge life changing experience that no amount of preparation can really arm you for. Just be kind to yourselves, take it easy and do things on your own terms. I started having panic attacks when i went on mat leave first time - the reality of not working really hit me hard because until then I had been quite defined by my job and what it meant to me. This was the scariest time for me - not being at work but still waiting for ds to arrive. Once he arrived life was FINE and I really enjoyed it but the fear of the unknown really got to me. However, this doesn't happen to everyone - maybe I am just odd (or a self-confessed control freak!).

Conversely, this time I am really enjoying the solitude, peace and quiet for I know whats coming!! That said, I'm off to watch last nights Top Gear with a cup of tea and my feet up.

Buckets · 23/06/2008 11:28

Oh Cyteen, just wait til you're at home with your new baby , you'll both feel like total frauds, expecting every knock on the door to be the hospital coming to collect it because there's been some admin cock-up. And it takes a while to program yourself not to leave the baby behind, I got as far as the front gate without my 1st once.
Seriously though, don't sweat about the big meaningful stuff, you just get on with the basics of the job (feeding, changing, trying to sleep) and everything else falls into place. I had made a deal with my DD mid-morning sickness that if she stopped trying to kill me I would promise to do my best. So when I woke up with a baby next to me after general anaesthetic, it was no biggy that I didn't have that endorphin rush (aka 'bonding')people talk about. She and I were already a team, just doing our best.

TwilightSurfer · 23/06/2008 12:14

Bealcain, DD is 4 going on 20. I can't even go near the fridge to get the left overs she put in there.

MORNING SICKNESS is BACK!! Stood over kitchen garbage can gagging for 10 minutes.

Sarahnh {{{hugs}}}

Cyteen the only constant is change. You'll be fine!!

Good Vibes, Dizzy.

Now I need to haul myself out of this chair and into the shower so I don't wind up going to my appt all stinky. DD is mad because it's MY DAY to pee in a cup, not hers. The kid is TWISTED.

PetitFilou1 · 23/06/2008 12:16

Just saying hello - I have a really horrible cold - am completely bunged up but otherwise ok. Very busy weekend gardening/visiting National Trust with mil and dcs, diy etc but nothing very exciting to report. Except for actually being grateful that mil was here for once!

Sarahn - sounds suspiciously like chicken pox/shingles to me - I know someone who had it as an adult and she said she thought she was dying (!) so it can be pretty bad I think - you poor thing. I think your mum would know for definite if you had had it - it isn't the sort of thing you forget, believe me (speaking as someone whose ds had it at 14 months...)

gigglegirl · 23/06/2008 12:18

morning ladies!

have been trying to catchup on weekend chat but have the attention span of a small goldfish today!

have felt shite this weekend so done nothing - avoided local carnival and spent all day yesterday like a zombie, kids watched DVDs, coloured and ate rubbish and I just didn't care. House looked like warzone this morning!

Internet been buggering about so haven't been able to get on over weekend.

had massive row with DH this morning and am now sitting next to him in silence "working!" Am actually arranging to meet up with a few friends in the evening, reading mumsnet, checking ebay and deciding on all the nice things I need to by for me and the baby whilst doing bits of work.

As for weekends threads - I have a breadmaker but an annoying kitchen with no work surface or plugs so never use it but wish I did - pass on any good recipes you have and it might give me the inspiration I need.

Have got sewing machine but it has broken - again wish I used it more!

Have started a cross stitch for the baby - again need more time to do - might finsih it for their 21st present.

Can you see a theme.....

As for slings - I have two - one from breastfeeding mothers of australia that my auntie sent me, a really lightweight simple front carrier and a wilkinet with raincover. I love both of them but have never been able to breasfeed whilst babies been in them. Tried a ring sling but just couldn't get to grips with it.

Started being really sick again this weekednd and have kept nothing but weak tea down since Friday. Hence not feeling the best. Going to make appointment to see Dr. today to get prescriptions for sickness tablets, fybogel, hamerroid cream and possibly a belt thing as pelvis really starting to hurt and some antiseptic cream for where I have ripped the skin from my body and am now getting oozing wounds! Oh and think I may have a week infection - either that or the baby is really doing some violent work on my bladder! Isn't pregnancy great!

got a BBQ for 150 to organise for Saturday - two bday parties for kids (although am almost decided it is going to be joint) plus more work than I can think about!

Happy Days

Actually writing all that has made me laugh - I really am nuts! Have just been sending an email to my friend who has no kids, on a great wage etc etc and is complaining she is tired and skint! If only she knew!

cyteen · 23/06/2008 12:18

Cheers all Luckily the whoremoans are keeping me bouncing from mood to mood, so at least whenever I feel solemn or sad I can rest assured it will only last a matter of minutes

TS that's grim that you're feeling sick again, although tbh standing over the bin would do it for me anyway

Am feeling positively sunny now as have just heard that a friend and his wife have just welcomed their lovely new son into the world Had a nosy at the pictures they've put up on Facebook, and the little one is gorgeous. Lots of snaps of new mum and dad grinning big tired grins and snuggling up to brand new baby

sarahnh · 23/06/2008 12:19

well ladies,

i am back from a long visit from the docs... it looks like i have the chicken poxs ....

Cannot take anything for it so just have to let it run its course... apparently infections can speed up pregnancy...

have lower tummy ache and very tender so doc reckon lo has finally engaged... if pain gets worse have to call hospital.... guys i'm in a mess!!!! xxxx

gigglegirl · 23/06/2008 12:25

sarahnh poor you. Have you got someone to look after you so you can just take it easy and get better.

sending you lots of love and hoping that it doesn't last too long.

I can sympathise with the lower abdomen pain etc... have you been drinking lots I had it with my DS1 and have just started getting it now. Dr. said same to me and it turned out it was a water infection (soooooo painful) had wee infections before and since but nothing like it - if you're ill anyway could def be that - try and drink loads and get some cranberry juice and see if that helps.

PetitFilou1 · 23/06/2008 12:26

Sarah rest, paracetamol and keep drinking and pile on the calamine cream (better than lotion if you can get it)

PetitFilou1 · 23/06/2008 12:28

PS Sarah - doesn't normally hurt when the baby engages (sorry haven't checked if you've had a lo before) - the midwives are much better at assessing position etc than the GPs in my experience

sarahnh · 23/06/2008 12:35

doc has sent away my urine sample to get checked and she did say that the midwife was much better at checking the presentation of the baby than she was...

DH is looking after me thank goodness... fingers crossed it doesn't last too long and i have tons of calamine cream left over from dd!!!!xx

gigglegirl · 23/06/2008 12:41

hope you managed to get some rest. DH was looking after me yesterday - meant I got to watch him play games on my computer! What fun! If you like tennis then you could always watch that - I have been saying I am going to find an excuse to lie in bed for two weeks when wimbledon is on one year. One of my RL friends did point out that I probably have a perfect excuse now but that I am just rubbish at taking my own advice

PetitFilou1 · 23/06/2008 13:03

TS Tell me, why did I dream last night that I had a girl (when I'm having a boy) and woke up to find her there and not being able to remember anything about the labour. You are good at understanding this sort of thing aren't you? I really thought I'd had the baby this morning when I woke up!

TwilightSurfer · 23/06/2008 13:27

Petitfilou gender isn't important in dreams like that. Your mind is just working out the details of the birth....sorta like sports players imagine the game before they play it...gives you an edge up on things. It's all good.

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 23/06/2008 13:34

sarah poor old you. I imagine chickn pox as an adult is bad anyway - but when pregnant - argh!!! Enjhoy dh looking after you

Ts and gigglegirl me too on the sickness. Mine never went away, just died down a bit - but I've just been sick a few mins ago. I felt a bit ick, then went downstairs and smelt something our lodger (who is normally at work in the daytime) had cooked nuked in the microwave, and had to run to the loo and got there just in time. grr. grr.

Not done anthing useful this am. Intended to clean kitchen but haven't. Did do the tesco shop thoguh. had a rest for a bit, have put a few things in spnge bag for hospital. Am about to do a bit of dusting - and will do the kitchen while the man is here cleaning my carpets tomorrow (feel very grown up having a carpet man come in lol). Got work later. So don't feel up to it - but am only doing 2 more Mondays - and anyhow, I need to pick up my smp1 form from them...

TwilightSurfer · 23/06/2008 13:35

Worry causes you to dream lots of weird things. When pregnant with DD1 my dreams revolved around my cats. They would get hurt and I'd have no idea how to care for them.

The fact that you can't remember the birth, only the LO after-the-fact is a really good thing. Birth is difficult but only brief...it's what you get afterwards that should be your FOCUS.

OP posts:
CaptainCaveman · 23/06/2008 13:42

Poor you sarah my sympathies and prayers for a quick recovery for you. ugh. Has the doc said how quickly you can expect to feel better?

I am off out to buy some non-bio washing powder to wash newborn baby clothes! I am very excited about this for some odd reason!?

Am with you on the bonding issue buckets. I did not have that overwhelming sense of love, more like "aaarrrghh, shit, someone help me please!". In reality I loved ds and no-one could take him away but he was about 3 or 4 months old before I really felt 'bonded' with him. I remember ds being in bed and dh was out, I thought I heard a noise upstairs and my first instinct was to go to the kitchen and grab a knife so that I could kill whoever was daring to go near my baby . That kind of convinced me we had bonded.
