CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 19:27

cyteen I'm with you on the sewing machine front. I have one that I am determined to learn how to use!! And seeing how my mat leave has unexepectedly started early I have no excuses. So miamla, where do I start? I reckon I can thread the thing up.....

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 19:29

Oh and I've sorted newborn clothes into piles of 'whites' and 'darks' that need washing - only I don't have any non-bio washing powder in yet.....

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 19:30

POPPY hope you're on your way again

sazzles come back into the fold.............

did everyone enjoy their baked potatoes? Who's turn is it for tea tonight? I fancy steak

sarahnh rash update please?

CC he sounds like a meanie - rotten picking on ds like that as you've hard a harsh day and mentioned your hormones I shall tell you my most embarassing moments from past two pg

when pg with dd1 there was an advert on TV for the Ideal homes exhibition which was nothing but a wee cartoon of a car pulling a caravan up a hill BUT it had the littlest Hobo as a theme tune - well I was farking disraught about that dog never finding its way home and dh arrived home to find me sobbing

when pg with dd2 I was having a quiet dozy (as opposed to dizzy ) moment on the couch and that film with Whoopi Goldberg Sister Act was on - I WEPT when they all sang together in the choir at the end and won the prize - once again dh

there - hope that makes you feel mildly better at least

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 19:33

cyteen Calpol is one of the best investments you can make as a mother

may I also add to your list the following:

  1. Nelsons Teetha Powders for teething
  2. Infacol
  3. Gripe water

(2&3 required for colic incidents)

  1. a medicinal syringe & plunger for bottle top - babies are notorious for not taking medicine and its better to shoot it at an unawares child

shall take myself off now and put my drugged tired babies to bed

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 19:34

Thanks dizzy you are always good for a giggle! I shall enjoy spending my mat leave with you (in a virtual sense of course, I'm not planning on moving in with you!).

Sorry for being a pig, I already ate tea, courtesy of dh. Slow cooked steak with mushrooms and bacon, and baby new potatoes. It was delicious and deserved to be followed up with a coffee& chocolate magnum!!!

dh has just started the hoover up **

CC Yes I've read the book twice now (I even get a mention in the acknowledgement as I usually read and annotate first drafts), it's very funny and the heroine is very cool. As one of the Amazon reviews says (must do one myself actually) it turns the cliches of the Victorian novel upside down. Just a shame the cover makes it look like a supertrashy romance LOL.

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 19:37

I second the vote for nelsons Teetha powders ds loved them.

Infacol was great but we had to switch to Colief to relieve ds' colic. WArning - only buy colief as a last resort as it is roughly ten farking pounds per bottle!!!

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 19:38

Off with you sazzles you are not meant to be here!! Did you finish your appraisal yet? WEll, did you?

poppysocks · 22/06/2008 19:39

Glad to hear you're all set with the Calpol Cyteen. It is magic.

I rather like Petra, but it falls into the category of names that I like but am not sure I have the guts to use. See also, Flora, Rufus and Jasper.DH would never go for it as we've never been there. Currently arguing about Iona on that basis.

Well, train now moving but still expecting more delays. It's ok actually as I have several different sunday papers, a few nonsense magazines and the laptop. Also an ability to sleep by just shutting my eyes. Back rather sore from last such episode but such a luxury! I just feel sorry for the people who are travelling with children. Been there, like you ALBS and done that. It it is just horrible, isn't it.

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 19:41

isn't colief the stuff you're meant to put in the milk a certain time before feeding baby? I can't remember, dd2 didn't have colic thank god as it was hell on earth with dd1

sazz I want to see an emailed copy of appraisal before you're back on again young lady

lol CC I haven't had my hormonal 'moment' yet this time but am a bit worried about my yoga session on Tues after VG telling us of her meltdown

miamla · 22/06/2008 20:03

pg1 hmm what's this parentcraft class you talk about? a midwife friend of mine (unfortunately miles away in edinburgh) was asking if i'd done any yet. didn't even know they were being offered! oh, and i've already got the 9th in my diary because the breastfeeding bit of my antenatal classes was cancelled for falling on a bank holiday!
you know what..we're going to turn out to be neighbours...i'm in wfd grn too!
worry not about being uncreative... i've managed to extract it from the least likely people so be warned, you may be my next victim!!

i think Petra's a lovely name for a girl. its also an amazing place. DP and I were both there at a similar time about 3 years before we met!

albs sorry to hear you're feeling off colour. make sure that DH spoils you rotten! you deserve no less than him standing near you waving a fan and peeling grapes!

sazzles i take back my previous comment about you!! i feel cheated! AND i saw you sneaking back on for a little look on here...back to your appraisal young lady! i don't want to see you back here until its finished otherwise there'll be no dinner for you (keeps quiet that i'm meant to be sorting family finances out instead of reading and posting on here!)

cc sorry, but you and DS returning in tears amused me as well! only because i know if i were in your shoes, i'd be doing exactly the same thing
Blasted whoremoans!!! Sounds like your hospital bag is almost finished though!
And as we're sharing embarrassing pregnancy moments... i cried at the end of Castaway
re your sewing machine...thread it up, plug it in, stick a bit of fabric under the needle and press your foot down on the pedal! seriously though, what do you fancy making? a baby blanket might come in handy and would be an easy first project....

cyteen as for you and your deliberate baby purchase...you're putting us all to shame!!
I do hope you'll be sharing the brioche and butter pudding with us all stern glare

bealcain · 22/06/2008 20:18

Am i really thick??? where is Petra????

we've had our name sorted since 20weeks scan, anyone else sorted already??

buckets 0 i to was given belt by physio but it does diddly squat!

dizzy any tats left? i messed up dinner...AGAIN

TwilightSurfer · 22/06/2008 20:24

Goodness...chatter chatter chatter.

Just cleaned DDs room. She is not on my good list today. She is mouthy, won't eat and only watched the cleaning process. I've taken away tv time, computer time and she's banned to her room but is not allowed to play with any of her toys. AND when she decides to eat....she'll eat the lunch she refused earlier, COLD. Tell me again why I'm having another???!!!???

Cyteen, might I add vasoline to your list. It's the best thing for so much.

Dizzy and Captain, I too have that silly pregnancy story. When pregnant with DD1 I dropped by the hairdresser to get a quick cut. Walked in and the guy ACTED like he knew me and said he'd be right back to get me BUT called me a different name. The waiting area was full and he ran out so quick that I did have a second to say, but my name is.... Well he comes back ten minutes later, looks straight at me and says come on, whatever the name was. I politely stand ready to correct him and at the same time another girl stands. He looks at both of us and says HEY YOU'RE NOT so and so. I said that is correct. Then he rudely goes on (in front of loads of people) to say WERE YOU TRYING TO STEAL HER APPOINTMENT TIME!? I turned and walked out and cried the whole way home. I just wanted a haircut. The non-pregnant me would have given him a fat lip!!

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 20:26

miamla a baby blanket sounds divine. What do I need? I have visions of a gorgeous, soft, cuddly blanket but will more likely look like a potato sack.....

Hospital bag progress...pyjamas for me now added. Hmmm, what next? Pants may be a good idea. Now, where's my white thongs...

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 20:28

tee hee ts. Last time I was pg I cried in Tesco's because they had no prawns left . I imagine magnum's would create a similar scenario?

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 20:28

Just off to get in the bath with ds....back later x

miamla · 22/06/2008 20:28

i hope your thongs are white satin with lace trimming. plain white cotton just won't do the job!

miamla · 22/06/2008 20:35

cc as for your blanket, depends how complicated you want to make it. what experience have you got so far?

TwilightSurfer · 22/06/2008 20:36

Thongs....flip-flops?? If that's the case, I've got my black ones in my bag. I remember last time things got messy and my socks/houseshoes seem to get the worst of it. Black, for me, is a better choice. Won't matter if you a CSec though.

OH for you first timers, things do get a little messy so be prepared.

I've even packed my BLACK silky night pants (hides stains and easier to rinse out and dries very quickly). My beautiful white cotton nightgown didn't look so good last time (and this was AFTER all the delivery stuff). Sometimes things runuth over .

OP posts:
miamla · 22/06/2008 20:39

forgot to say earlier

pelvic floors girls!!! apparently we should be doing between 50 and 60 a day!

cyteen · 22/06/2008 20:39

miamla I was thinking of making a blanket with one side fleece, one side cotton, and a sort of satiny border around the edge...lots of different textures for small hands to play with. What do you think, is this feasible for a newbie? And how would I go about it - add the border to both pieces and then stitch them together, or stitch together and somehow border afterwards?

Sorry for the very many questions

miamla · 22/06/2008 20:52

TS thongs in uk are also known as a g-string. ie knickers with not much substance!
