Sazzles 45min is a VERY LONG TIME. I'm lucky if I get 2min in the bathroom. I've no energy to balance my checkbook so very of you ability to paint anything.

Still dealing with lopsided baby here. Why on earth would she want to be crumpled up like she is at the moment????

My dd is on her first ever Rainbow's outing (a circus skills thing at a localish camp site), and dh is out to lunch with the guest preacher so I had to drive her and didn't get to join miamla and pregnancy1 on the hospital tour. boo. I hate the new / very old car. I stalled twice on one junction alone. I think the clutch is more senstive than the old car, plus being petrol as opposed to diesel it needs a bit of gas to get going, it appears. By the time we got thre, I'd said "stupid car " so many times that I had a very hard time persuading dd that "stupid" is a naughty word that even grown ups shouldn't use .

Need to have some lunch - feel a bit icky cos am hungry (had cake at church but think I need food without the sugar rush following) then will finally finish filling in my maternity allowance form. Please don't tell me if you think I've left it too late. I know i've been in denial about this whole pregnancy succeeding, so only got round to dealing with it last week. Hope to get my smp1 from work tomorrow so can send whole lot off on tues.

TwilightSurfer · 22/06/2008 15:51

ALBS "stupid" is my DDs new favorite word thanks to numerous hours of SPONGEBOB. I'll be spending the rest of the summer deprogramming her.

Baby is offical BREECH again. Her head is up under my right rib.

Have been reading another MN thread started by a lady wanting to find out why some choose to FF instead of BF.

I'm also sitting here wondering what I'm going to do with myself for the next few weeks....bags packed, baby stuff purchased, too tired to move....is there something else I should be doing now?

And lastly, I've given DH the task of coming up with at least ONE baby name a day from yesterday forward. A 10pm (after I reminded him) he suggested Jessa. I'm not shooting down any suggestion from him at this point BUT I have a cousin named Jessica.

albs shame you didn't make it but i can summarise the whole tour for you. temperature=v hot. sounds=crying babies. people=lots! (labour ward was too busy for us to see!) tired looking fathers=lots. smell=hospital

seriously, i'm glad i did it because i've finally sorted out the differences of the various wards..

low risk=lilac, midwife led, its possible to hire a private room for approx £120 for 24 hrs (i think!). same visiting hours apply as the other bit (8am to 8pm for partners/husbands, visitors under 16 only allowed if they're your own children)

normal and high risk= start off on maple (2nd floor)(private rooms here are £50 i think) for first stage of labour, give birth on labour ward (1st floor) then back up to magnolia ward (2nd floor) for post-natal bit

pregnancy1 lovely to meet you albeit briefly! sorry we disappeared, we had to run waddle off to the ladies! when does your maternity leave start? email me on miamla@hotmail dot com and we can sort out a proper meet (assuming you didn't take an instant dislike to me!)
DP was astounded at how we'd managed to recognise each other from all the people there!
Oh, and do you agree with my summary of the tour? still not convinced i've got all the ward names right but they're close!

alittlebitshy · 22/06/2008 16:13

hmm -actually wonder if it would have been any use for me. I'm having planned section so I'd prob bypass all the initial wards?! Have put request for ?Forest? or other wooded area/tree on my noes - the amenity room thingummy - did they show those???

We must have a proper s-wooford type meetup!!

yes Sazz, has nobody told you about the fruit shoot earrings and sausage roll necklaces for instant recognition purposes?!?

home, had lovely time, pooped and baked potatoes in the oven for tea

poppysocks · 22/06/2008 16:53

Congratulations Sazzles. V. impressed by such organisation. Rather scared to get the room sorted. My version of Dizzy's fear of the buggy darkening her door pre-LO's arrival. Will get it sorted at some stage and just keep fingers crossed that LO doesn't put in an early appearance and end up having to sleep amongst chaos and boxes.

Lucky you getting a hospital tour miamla and pregnancy1. I didn't ever see the labour ward with DD1. Went into induction ward, then when things got going, they didn't have space so they put me in a bath, then straight to theatre and then post-natal ward. Not bothering with any sort of tour this time either (if it's available) due to planned section.

On train now to London for friend's funeral tomorrow.. It is SO windy! (somewhere in the NE of England at the mo)

poppysocks · 22/06/2008 16:56

Glad you had a good time Dizzy. Sorry to have missed you.

Baked potato sounds gooood. Any spare?

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 17:26

of course Poppy - tuna and sweetcorn or egg mayo topping?

hope you're doing ok

TwilightSurfer · 22/06/2008 17:27

Good job Sazzles. Have a second rocker all ready and waiting for you on the porch.

DH asked what I wanted to do today. I said I wanted the bassinet/playpen set up. DONE!! Remember I purchased the one with special shelves under the bassinet. They are fully stocked now with baby clothes, diapers, blankets and other odds & ends. DH still asking about the nursery chair. It WAS SO NICE. Maybe I can find some $$$ when I balance the checkbook later.

Crazy hospital set up Miamla. Watch mine be just as wild. Touring it not this Tuesday but the next. All I know is it's on the 5th floor. I remember delivering loads of flowers to that floor as a young Red Cross Hospital Volunteer. So much has changed since then.

Poppy...{{{hugs}}}} have a safe trip.

Buckets · 22/06/2008 17:28

To those of you with bump support belts, how did you get hold of them? Think my lower pelvic and lower back pain when walking may be late-onset SPD . Will see how schoolrun goes in the morning and if it hasn't all gone away miraculously will phone MW for some suggestions.

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 17:29

buckets I just saw your SPD thread
I got a tubi grip from the physion but I think they have belts too - phone MW anyway to get a referral incase it takes a few days - better to have the appt and not need it than change your mind and wait

poppysocks · 22/06/2008 17:36

Ooh tuna and sweetcorn thanks Dizzy.

Shouldn't joke really as I might actually be in need of food as train has now been delayed indefinitely and everyone who can abandon their journey has been told to. Not suprisingly, as this is a train that has been conveying people from one place to another, there are not many people who can just take an unscheduled stop at York so it's now full of rather stressed people (and some poor ones with babies). Oh joy.

Note for TS - British trains are really really rubbish and should NEVER be trusted!

miamla · 22/06/2008 17:39

albs thats very hippy of you wanting to give birth in the forest! the hospital isn't that bad!! I think the forest bit is on the 1st floor also known as the lilac bit..maybe! pregnancy1 i need your help!!

sazzles of course there's a special greeting... you should have read all about it in your welcome pack! (it helped that pg1 and I had swapped descriptions before the tour!) And i'm exhausted just reading what you've been up to today!

TS sounds like you've been busy too!

poppy thinking of you

dizzy glad you had a nice day. can i have grated cheese and mayo in my pototo please?

buckets the antenatal physio gave me mine. you'll prob need to get a referral but it may be worth you just phoning the physio dept at your local hospital. make sure you ask if there's a special antenatal section though because i think most hospitals have them

alittlebitshy · 22/06/2008 17:57

poppy eek. Are they proposing to do anything to help those who have to abandon their journey? Back last year dd and I were on a train from Newcastle back to London - it was the first (only actually lol) time I'd travelled long distance with her alone and I had a mammoth backpack for luggage, and she had a pully suitcase for her bits n bobs. We got as far as stevenage and had to get out and wait for buses to take us to another station to get a different train back to london. I was crying by the end. My lugagge was fairly carryable but not for the length of time we were queueing and walking. She was obviously bored and fed up - havign been a star up until then.I think it took us an extra 3 hours to get back to London that day. Not done long train journeys with her since lol.

pregnancy1 · 22/06/2008 18:00

Miamla Oh no, the pressure - feels like a terrible test! I did agree with it being ridiculously hot though.... as far as I can remember the lilac bit was on the first floor and looked great (right up until the point I was told I couldn't use it because of spd ). They didn't show us the forest rooms as they were full but I basically remembered that you could pay more for the forest suite (make sure it's written on the front of your folder) as it has an en-suite. If they are full then you can pay less (£50) for another private room, but you have to share bathrooms. Think both were on the second floor with all the post-natal rooms (if you didn't want to pay you could go to a room with 3-5 others and be curtained off). We didn't see the actual labour rooms, but I was reassured you got a room each for the labour - good as I had terrble visions of rows of howling woman with legs akimbo!
Albs & Miamla - a girl on my NCT course recommended the breastfeeding session at whipps. The next one is on the 9th July 5-7pm and I'm def hoping to go if either of you are interested. Although I've realised that that day will be baby-central - 2:30-4:30 Whipps x Parentcraft class, 5-7 breast feeding class, 7:30-9:30 NCT!!
Anyway, I was concerned that I'd been too slow as we stayed behind to get the details of the class so I was worried you'd think we were avoiding you! Will email you in a mo and def interested in catching up again (providing you can bear with associating with the least creative girl in the world!!) Albs I'm in Woodford Grn so v close to you!

Buckets I got a support belt from the physio at the hospital after taking myself to the maternity section and seeing a doctor there (called my own doctor, but as soon as I mentioned I was pregnant they told me to go to the maternity ward!). Doctor referred me, but after I hadn't heard from them in about 5-6 weeks I phoned them up and got an appointment the next day! Think they'd forgotten me, so worth contacting them to get an appt asap.

TwilightSurfer · 22/06/2008 18:04

Miamla, DH has been busy...I have just been "supervising". Have now sent him on a quest for Japanese take-out. We had Chinese last night...anybody see a pattern.

Poppy, at least you have your connection to MN. Mass transport is mass transport no matter where you are in the world, unfortunately.

I've just learned that two friends were both at Petra just days apart from each other. Amazing!! A few of my old mates are true globe trotters. The world is so small. I remember one night at a club in Cozumel, Mexico I bumped into a friend from Destin, Florida...here I was with a big group and I hear my name being called out from across the club. Connections are everything!!

OP posts:
Buckets · 22/06/2008 18:59

Ooh how about Petra for a girl's name?

alittlebitshy · 22/06/2008 19:01

I think I'm turning into you twilight. we're having pizza hut for the 3rd time since last sunday. It's all I fancy - feel sick, heartburny, miserable, achey and just very very pregnant. I know it's not a great diet - but anything to feel better in the shortterm i think

Poor you poppy are you anywhere near NOttingham? You are most welcome to camp at my house if you can get here! I won't charge you....

Ds was being an imp this morning, charging round church and then charging round sunday school. He got told off by one of the men who plays guitar in sunday school, which personally I thought was a bit harsh. Ds was fiddling with the acetate on the overhead projector (you could still read it), and he stopped playing the guitar to tell ds off. "Thomas stop playing with that, you are being stupid and ruining it for everyone else" . I had to try really hard not to cry. We eventually left early, after ds had had several behaviour 'warnings', so both ds and I came through the front door in tears, much to dh's amusement!!

Other than that, I have made a start on packing my bag. So far I have put in two packs of maternity towels, some shower gel and shampoo [hmmm].

buckets your mums book sounds good, I like the reviews of it, in fact I may even read it!! Have you read it?

sarahnh how's that rash? I would ring the gp again if you are concerned, poor you

Oh, I also just cried when the female contestant on Gladiators made it up the travelator Bloody pg hormones!!!

CaptainCaveman · 22/06/2008 19:23

sazzles you are weak and will return.......

cyteen · 22/06/2008 19:25

Hi girls I'm very of all the August 08ers who've actually met up today - it would be so awesome to have a big picnic for us all, if we weren't scattered across the globe.

poppy take it easy kitten, I'll be thinking of you the next few days. May there be laughter, tears and support when everyone meets to honour your friend.

sarahnh get well soon! Have you tried calamine lotion on your itchy spots, I remember my brother being bathed in the stuff when he had chickenpox and it seemed to help.

Well, we've had a lovely day here. Weather turned out unexpectedly hot and sunny, so we did useful stuff in the morning (trip to the tip, supermarket shop) followed by house stuff (washing, vacuuming, gardening), followed by leisure stuff (slobbing on sofa in front of Bond movie, eating delicious tea, snuggling). DP has taken himself off to have a bath and I am going to make brioche and butter pudding with baked nectarines [lard emoticon].

Oh, and today we made our first deliberate baby-related purchase: a bottle of Calpol in the supermarket Think I'm all set to be a mum now!
