buckets i had the same conversation with my DP about being manipulative! he was meant to be out tomorrow but he's staying home instead. your evening sounds lovely..pizza and ukulele! do you both play?

pregnancy1 · 21/06/2008 21:50

Ah bucjets, don't worry - it happens to us al. I've cried becuase I didn't know what I wanted to eat before. Pesky hormones....

night everyone xx

ataraxis · 21/06/2008 21:54

not good is it miamla? hoping it will pass and a full night's sleep will be more than a distant memory (for the next few weeks anyway... under no illusions after that - although i have had strict words with DC3 that I am expecting her to sleep through the night from max 6 weeks old ). The worst thing is DH's very loud and unrythmic snoring which means that for whatever reason i do wake up, there is then no chance of getting back to sleep . So going to bed now in an effort to regain a modicum of energy for tomorrow... plasterer coming again tomorrow at 8am. However much I want the place finished, that is just not right. Night all .

miamla · 21/06/2008 22:20

night pregnancy1, see you tomorrow!!

miamla · 21/06/2008 22:21

night to you too ataraxis!

dizzydixies · 21/06/2008 22:23

miamla · 21/06/2008 23:40

of course he does Dizzy!

TwilightSurfer · 22/06/2008 02:45

I can't believe I'm still up...

I've just ordered my Moby Wrap in the color moss. Here's a picture. If you go out to YouTube there's several nice people who have posted "how to use" videos for different wraps/slings/carriers. Just type in the the one you want to see (example: Moby Wrap) and scroll through what's available. I watched some Moby ones and one on the Ergo. Kinda think I won't get the Ergo for a front carrier just because the strap that snaps in the back. I'd be the ONE person on the planet who'd be unable to manage it all by myself.

Now off to find muslin receiving blankets. The ones I like are the Aden+Anais but they aren't cheap....even on ebay.

sarahnh · 22/06/2008 07:29

hey everyone,

thanks so much for your kind thoughtd, it really does make you feel better knowing that people are thinking of you..

went to see the emergerncy doc yesterday but am no further forward, doesn't think it is chicken poxs but as i said very convincingly that i had already had it he has ruled it out. ( i have since learnt that my mother is not 100% sure that i have had them and since we haven't seen eachother in over 6 years and barely spoken in that time, it has been very frustrating not getting proper answers!!)

The spots are really ichy and are on my stomach upper chest, one on the palm of my hands, a little on my legs and face oh and to top it all in my lady garden arghhhh...

My throat hurts too so i don't know if there are a couple lurking down there... so in general feel absolutely rubbish... will see how i get on today, if it gets much worse will go back to hospital but hopefully will hang on and see my own docs tomorrrow.

So sorry for mega post hope everyone else is doing ok xxxx

Buckets · 22/06/2008 08:26

Saranh, try Germolene antiseptic cream on the itchiest / most inconvenient spots - it has a local anaesthetic in it so you'll stop scratching and making it worse.

Miamla - I'm not good enough on the guitar (don't understand the science, no barre chords, growing my nails LOL) to automatically play the uke. Would have to learn the different chord shapes from scratch and can't be bothered yet. Singing is much easier for lazy folk like me, accurate result for minimal effort as long as you're prepared to let the noise out.

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 08:27

sarahnh Nelsons Tea Tree antiseptic cream - send DP to tesco or Boots to get it - its wonderful - I had chicken pox as an adult and used it then and with every spot/rash ever since!

been chucking it down since 7pm last night and still going strong - sp much for meeting real life MNers at a strawberry farm

Buckets · 22/06/2008 08:29

TS What's a muslin receiving blanket for? Is it just a giant muslin square? For swaddling newborns in superhot weather? Do you have normal little pram/cribsized blankets too?

Sazzles, I think we're chickening out, with very good reason, and going to a soft play instead lol

dizzydixies · 22/06/2008 08:39

Miamla - I have to presume that the muslin receiving blanket is for swaddling babes in a warmer climate than ours lol

and have just been on and checked the banks and they look grim grim grim even though its only 8 days after pay day

nobody won the lottery last night did they

bealcain · 22/06/2008 09:16

blimey girlies, i go off for an afternoon and evening and come back to mammoth posts.....just sat here for 15mins catching up. can't possibly comment on all posts or i'll be the one with a mammoth post!

miamla hows the crib going? or have you given up?

sazzles - close carrier is fantastic for newborns but as they older eg 6months plus you may struggle abit. depends how long you want to babywear for.

VG - total opposite. Bababyhawk is again fantastic but i personally wouldn't use till 12weeks or at lest until LO has head control. saying that i know plenty of newborns that have them and are fine. They just take a bit of geting used to, but well worth it. great for back carries later on aswell.

DD - ihad a double pushchair first off with my 2ds, was so glad when i found slings i just used my single stroller, much lighter on the arms and i actually could feed on the move. Also if we went to park i didn't have to leave the baby in the pushchair whilst i helped ds1, ds2 could come along to. Would recommend a wrap as a great all rounder. Take a look at bigmamaslings.co.uk, they're not the cheapest but have the biggest selection, choose what you like form there and search for it cheaper elsewhere.

PG i really cant remember how i learnt, but perhaps try a few on a dolly??

TS SNAP my moby is moss!!

this may be a silly question but why would anyone want a huge muslin square? baby's are only small, right? so therefore the mess they make is only small!

bealcain no, i'm not giving up on the crib just yet but i do have the important task of making myself looking reasonably nice today because i'm meeting a MNer in RL!!!
waves at pregnancy1

sazzles i'm with you on gubbed!

sorry to all those having horrible weather but i'm sitting in my sun room (old fashioned conservatory) with all the doors and windows open because its so hot! Cat has just come inside to cool down!

well we had a fun night, i spent most of it on the phone to NHS direct. DP noticed that my eyes looked funny. On closer inspection he realised that the bit of my eyes that should have been white were in fact pale blue. So a few phone calls later, having spoken to some lovely nurses, a GP phoned me back. I suspect he didn't believe me, told me that he'd never heard of anything (meds or illness) that would cause the whites to change blue so i was just to see my GP during the week if i was curious as to what it was.
So, I'm either a medical marvel or the GP on call last night hasn't got a clue! There's no pain or sight loss so i guess i'll just see how it goes today. i don't know, i get my piles under control and then the other end starts misbehaving!

right, where's that cradle?!!

TwilightSurfer · 22/06/2008 11:38

Morning,
Basically up since 5am trying to move baby out of yet another ackward position. Spent 30min rocking on my front porch in the dark. The baby is still balled up, more or less transverse. UUGGG!

Muslin blankets (just a big muslin square) are suppose to be nicer in warmer weather. I have more blankets than any person on the planet should (all types, shapes and sizes) but I don't have any muslin ones. Since they are four times as much as the typical flannel receiving blanket I'm hoping my dad gives them to me as a gift. He asked what I wanted last week and told me to send him some information. Again, they're not a necessity but they'd be nice to have.

Sarahnh {{{hugs}}} you're not having a good time at all. Oatmeal bath is all I can suggest. It works to calm the ichies from any condition plus it's natural so no harm to you or the baby.

Bealcain, cool...I picked the best of the best then.

Honestly folks after watching a dozen wrap/sling/carrier presentations on YouTube the Moby Wrap purchase was a NO BRAINER for a newborn. I'm planning on taking it with me to the hospital and putting her in it right away. I did that last time with a sling and learned very quickly that it wasn't the right thing for me. As soon as I got home I tried using my carrier instead but DD HATED it....she was just too small I think. We did use the carrier later on when she was bigger but it really hurt my back (DH used it more than me) plus it had snaps that were difficult for me to reach when alone.

Sazzles I'm hoping for a day like yours, on the sofa resting.

Dizzy you're a much better mom than I. I'm finding it very difficult to take just one child anywhere these days. I'm out of breath and can't walk alot. Good luck with your outing.

All I want to do is eat, sleep and repeat.

Miamla...a big muslin blanket is for swaddling...sounds like you're thinking diapering.

Buckets · 22/06/2008 12:27

Sazzles, Just trying to remember what sewing/handicraft attempts I've admitted to on here LOL. Was it my Rupert curtains? They are a bit inefficient in action TBH.
I do have a huge playmat I made with a water-resistant backing (old shower curtain), wadding filling and fleece top that I made for DS. Never did hem 2 of the edges properly but it's really useful for flinging over the filthy sofa seat for guests and as an extra mattress layer / picnic mat when camping.
Gorgeous weather way down South today, sorry Dizzy!
