I'm back!! Thank goodness my truck is fixed because one more day driving DH's speed racer and I'll explode...literally, sports car seats are NOT made for pregnant ladies.

Captain, I am very glad that you called the MW (and I'm happy the rest of you sat on her until she did). I'm not very forceful but I was hoping my links and notes would make you want to call.

Bigboy, you never can tell...your baby may turn when you least expect it. MINE DID again this evening just as I took a bite of lasagna.........she did a full body roll from facing my right side to facing my left side (head's still down). I about came out of my chair and spit my food all over DH. He just gave me his standard look . He just has NO CLUE!!

Here's hoping I'm allowed to sleep tonight (i'm not holding my breath).

Ataraxis no worries...the stats are a breeze to update.

miamla · 21/06/2008 09:15

VG we untie the ribbon and take the lid off the pretty box? are you sure? i thought we had zips that gave easy access perhaps i need to look into this a little more!

re cyclist, DP and his parents think i'm turning into a lioness protecting my young! i do feel pretty vulnerable whilst out and about. people just don't care/notice and barge straight through me still. i'm going to be so pleased after next week when i don't have to do the tube trip into London and walk down oxford street twice a day

CC pleased to hear MW not overly concerned about you but i hope you're still taking it easy

cyteen well done on your proper portion of dairy products last night. I had mine in the form of a Ben and Jerry's phish food so you're definitely not alone!

as for the rest of you... good morning!

our bed is being delievered today (the huuuuuge 6 x 7 one!!) and the bedroom is nowhere near finished so i imagine we'll be busy decorating.
i popped into John Lewis yesterday to enquire about sheets for it and for the grand sum of £78 and a 5 week wait we can specially order one!! hmm me thinks i'll be making my own fitted sheets for a fraciton of the price and time!

quick question for you though.. I've retrieved my old cradle from my mum's attic. where do i start with cleaning it? we've got dettol's 3 in 1 thingy stuff. is that good enough? and to avoid any doubt, yes, we are buying a new mattress

bealcain · 21/06/2008 10:17

i mentioned, way back in the beginning (dec i think) that i'm the slinging queen. If people still want info on it, then let me know. We've also started a sling library for hiring them out so again if you;re intersted contact me. easiest way is through www.handinhandbreastfeeding.co.uk

S.P.D. chronic this morning, took ds1 potty with me up to bed though so that i didn't have to walk up and down stairs all night.

miamla - that bed sounds great. DH keeps taking over ours at the moment not sure how to fit new baby in with us....

dettol should be fine. if it still smells of the disinfectant afterwards just wipe down with warm soapy water.

miamla · 21/06/2008 10:22

i'm embarrassed to admit i didn't think of washing in soapy water after dettol clean! that's obviously what i should do! thanks Bealcain!
sorry to hear your SPD is bad this morning, i have no words of advice, just sympathy

hmm, i haven't got a sling, should I? do i need one? i've read on here how some babies don't like being in them, perhaps hiring one would be a good start. i'm off to have a look at that website

bealcain · 21/06/2008 10:25

i dont know how people can manage without them miamla, but then i am offically addicted!

sarahnh · 21/06/2008 10:47

morning girls

CC i really hope that you called your midwife/hospital and everything is ok fingers crossed...

Now i need serious help, woke up this am with a rash on my tummy, its drifting up to my chest and down onto my thighs... i also feel very icky...

does any anyone have any ideas on what it might be... my dd has just got over the chicken poxs and i have already had them but starting to panic a bit please help!xxx

bealcain · 21/06/2008 10:51

sarah, does it look like chicken pox?

alittlebitshy · 21/06/2008 10:53

I need to do work on getting a sling. Argh the decision.
Any advice bealcain? I had been thinking about a coorie (or kimmer - whichever one is more summer friendly and not fleecy) and an ergo. Am I wonrg? mad?........

Miamla - I don't thik I'm going to be able to come tomorrow to the tour For a start dd has a Rainbpw thing that starts at 2.30, which I might have made dh drop her at (normally he would) but he has a guest preacher for church so needs to be entrtaining him/giving him lunch. If I got someone to give dd a lift I could poss come, but I am actually too scared to drive myself to Whipps cos of the parking. I've made dh do it everytime. argh argh argh. Wimp. I really wanted to come and meet you and prenancy1 and to do the tour . I'll be especially annoyed if i do get dd a lift - but I'm just not happy to drive it esp in the new/old car which I'm not quite au fait with yet. and it's 2 buses away. grr.

Had a lovely LONG lie and and SLEEP this morning. Dh and dd gone out for breakfast and kids (£1) saturday morning cinema! I'm about to go back to bed and read but I needed food so thoguht I'd come and consume it on MN .

Miamla ooh - Dd slept in my old moses basket too. Hopefully this baby will too. My mum is meant to be ordering a new mattress this week. One word of warning though: when we were young things were measured in feet/inches, and now it's cms so you can't get quite an exact fit. We got close enough last time, and hoping my mum manages this time. Else she says she'll just abuy a new basket cos it's not that much more than a new speical size mattress (Not telling dh this unless she does it though cos he already thinks my mum and I can spend unnecessarily ).

alittlebitshy · 21/06/2008 10:55

sarah - eek. does it look poxy? I know they might not look watery yet if they;ve just come out, but...

is it spotty or rashy?

erm......

sarahnh · 21/06/2008 11:01

its more spotty than rashy if i am honest, they are like little raised spots????

bealcain · 21/06/2008 11:08

i'd ring your out of hours doctor and get it checked out.

Albs - i'm not obverly keen on pouches simply because they dont adjust. Prefer wraps for newborns and are more versatile. but it all individual preference. Agree about non-fleecy though

alittlebitshy · 21/06/2008 11:24

bealcain My worry is that I won;t be able to tie a wrap securely enough.

Tell me what you;d reccomend in general.

CaptainCaveman · 21/06/2008 11:55

morning gals, all good here (except ususal tiredness!)

off to a party this afternoon so should be able to sit down and drink plenty (of non-alcoholic drinks!).

sarahnh I would ring nhs direct or your gp - just be on the safe side or we'll all get on your back anyway!

miamla · 21/06/2008 12:14

albs that's a shame about sunday. whereabouts do you live? if its just the driving/parking bit i could always meet you somewhere else first and you can join me in my car (either somewhere you're happy parking or your house). but understand you need to sort DD out as well
let me know...

pregnancy1 your description of you applies to me as well! i'm 5'10 with brown bobbed hair! you might be my long lost twin sister!

TwilightSurfer · 21/06/2008 12:33

Bealcain I'm probably going to puchase a Moby Wrap. There's a lady just down the road from me that's an "authorized" dealer. I had a Natural Baby Sling last time but didn't like it once the baby started getting bigger. Then I had a carrier (forgot the brand) and it killed my back. The Moby looks just right for me. I will however consider the Ergo for when the baby is bigger. Several moms around here have them and they function very well with baby on the back.

Sarahnh, rashes happen during pregnancy. Check the link to see if any of these apply to you.

Captain, glad you're up and feeling well.

Guess What?? I slept throught the night!!!!!

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 21/06/2008 13:32

miamla can you email me your mob no to: alittlebitshy at googlemail dot com and I'll update you........

it's half 1 and I'm just dressed and showered. went back to bed with my book. waiting for dh and dd to arrive home soon, then I'm on dd duty cos dh needs to work (tch )

Buckets · 21/06/2008 13:58

Hi all
Booklaunch went well, sold about 40 copies to friends and family, not bad given the price!. VG, this is my mum's latest book.

Bealcain I've been considering keeping a disposable nappy by the bed for weeing on in the middle of the night (and I don't even have SPD, just lazy.)

Re slings, the buy&sell boards on any parenting websites are a great place to look for 2nd hand, just open another window to google the brand and find out what on earth they look like. Mine is an adjustable ringsling with open tail that you can fling over you when breastfeeding inexpertly.

bealcain · 21/06/2008 15:34

TS - i've got a moby and ds2 lived in it from about 5months, didn't last as long asi wanted though as the stretch in it is just too much for an older baby, although i know a baby of 13months who's still in his. Perhaps i was just so addicted i wanted to buy more and that wa my excuse!

Albs - i definately recommend a wrap for a general all rounder althogh i'd go for a gauze wrap, my fav being Calin bleu cool gauze. great for our summer LOs but then still great in wonter when you can put an extra layer on bubba. fab.

Like buckets also have a RS which is fab for quick trips in and out the car. It was my first sling with ds2, 2months at the time and lasted ages, just now i've found wraps i definately recommend them, i think they're abit more versatile and better for the back. Depends on if you're still going to have a pushchair for longer trips out.

Well done Sazzles, nice smug feeling aint it?

Today's Top Tip: Be an organised mum and get/make a calendar with a column for every member of the family. You'd be surprised how busy babies are, esp if you are using childcare. My DH is trained that if it aint on the calendar it aint happening (I still have to write 'kids' in his column if I am going out though ).

dizzydixies · 21/06/2008 17:37

TS well done one sleeping through the night - its amazing what a difference one night makes - delighted to hear the truck is working again

sarahnh I had terrible skin problems with dd1 - is your rash itchy or hot? you can have anti histamen during pregnancy but you have to check with the pharmacy/GP which one to use as some not suitable for pregnancy - I can also highly recommend Nelsons Tea Tree antiseptic cream for all things spotty - its a wonder cream - fingers crossed for it not being Chicken Pox

sazzles did the magnum white work? whilst I don't wish acid reflux on anyone I won't be devestated if it doesn't as it just means all the more for me well done on the getting organised, I bought some fresh new white bibs when in Tesco - does that count??!!

buckets we are the same in this house with dh and I being on opposite shifts which vary immensley it HAS to be written down - I keep it in my filofax/ on the wall AND on a spreadsheet on the computer

bealcain tell me whats suitable for big norks?!? I've bought a double pram with a carrycot for baby but would really like to try a sling this time too

dizzydixies · 21/06/2008 17:38

had a good day with girls whilst dh slept of the night shift, we went to a park this morning before its bunged by the weekenders and then to a friends house for lunch and a play in the garden - was very nice and the girls were on great form

going to meet my first live MNers tomorrow at a nearby park but forecast does not look good typical

VintageGardenia · 21/06/2008 18:24

Hi all, absolutely chucking it down from the heavens here today, garden drenched, dogs drenched, me drenched from stocking up on a few essentials in Waterstone's and the homeopathic supply place (arnica tabs for me post birth and marjoram oil for quiet nights...). DS gone to grandparents for couple days.

cyteen you think you are big and clever with your measly pot of icecream? From being a mango muncher in the early days, it's all gone horribly wrong this last week. Today I ate
3 bowls (!!!) Special K
2 PopTarts (why did I even buy them? they are pure crap and sugar and a burn hazard when gobbled direct from toaster. They are not even nice tasting.)
1 punnet of strawberries (healthy) draped in half a pot of full fat Greek yog (nuff said) liberally sprinkled with dark muscovado sugar. Deeeeelicious.
2 queen cakes

What's wrong with this picture? I swear it is not normal behaviour for me.

Buckets coo I am well impressed! I read the 2 reviews on the Amazon site, sounds like a brill read. I was in bookshop earlier but before I read your post, or would have checked for it or, better, asked for it, generating awareness on this side of sea! Well done your mum.

bealcain I wish you'd been around when I ordered sling from here the fabric is gorgeous but I am a bit worried about the sling itself! The straps tie, but will the baby bake? Will I? Not arrived yet.

sarah any news on possible pox? Hope you at least phoned, at best saw, a doc or nurse.

CC enjoy party! Hope not pelting as here.

dizzy RL MNers??? Will you each carry a carnation between your teeth to recognise one another, or will you wave empty FruitShoot bottles at one another? If monsoon continues you can retreat to cafe for cake!

miamla how's our lioness? Where are you getting energy to sort cradle, do decorating? I'd be retreating to my 6x7 bed and rolling round in it for joy!

TS glad you slept and truck fixed!

and sazzles how cool your dd slept an all nighter in her bed! It's a pretty good thing to have sorted before August.

dizzydixies · 21/06/2008 19:08

pmsl VG I have promised to hang Gregs sausage rollls and Fruit Shoots around my pregnant self so am instantly recognisable
