Pergnancy 1 - also having difficulties with the work thing am completely shattered today after getting up extremely early for a conference call with the US (12 hour time difference isn't too easy to cope with). I'm working to 1 August.

TS - hope LO has calmed down a bit now. Mine also very active and trying to escape alien style too. Have just been looking at the full moon thread on the general pregnancy topic - maybe that has something to do with it

dizzydixies · 20/06/2008 08:51

morning girls - crap night sleep curtosey of dd2 who, of course is bright as a button - so am a grumpy mare today sorry!

buckets how exciting - I hope the launce (and haircut) go well

TS hope you've managed to get back to sleep ok and your nerves are a bit calmer

pregnancy1 I knew I would have a problem working late this time which is why am finished already - I saved my leave up and because I only work part time on 7day shifts its meant I finished at end of June - ok it means I'll be on maternity leave from 6th July but I just couldn't face the shift bitchiness anymore (not that I was weeping and wailing just finding it harder to bite my tongue) and I'd rather spend time relaxing/ getting ready for baby/ having time with the girls before baby comes and dd1 starts school

it all depends on how you feel - you have to do whats right for you and if you feel differently in a few weeks time then you can always reassess

sunny here today is it unreasonable to send them out the back in their pyjamas after their weetabix?!?

CaptainCaveman · 20/06/2008 09:12

Good morning gals, I hope you are all having a nice Friday....(ok, its only 9am I know).

buckets I hope the book launch goes well, good luck with your bi-a-tch role

dizzy send them out in their pjs

gigglegirl congrats on becoming auntiegiggle or giggleauntie. Is it your dsis' first baby?

I'm hoping my friend will pop round today with her newborn (10 days old). Oooh I love cuddling new babies!

bigboy don't make the mistake I made with ds1 and google 'breech babies' as you'll come away thinking you are about to give birth to a genetically defective mutant half-breed, and that you only have yourself to blame. The truth is they don't know why babies are breech but around 3-4% are breech at 36 weeks. Think of us as special . It could be the shape of your uterus and/or pelvis which makes baby sit in a breech position, it could also be another million reasons why!
There are several old wives tales theories for turning breech babies which many women swear by. There is no research to prove that their babies wouldn't have turned anyway without 'alternative' treatments.
If your baby is still breech at 37 weeks they should offer you ECV (external cephalic version) whereby they manually try to turn the baby in utero. There are some reasons why they won't do this too - I couldn't have it as ds had his cord wrapped round his neck. My friend couldn't have it as she didn't have enough amniotic fluid surrounding baby. I think you could safely google ECV without it making you worry!
If you get to your appt and they still think baby is breech, be sure to write a list of worries/questions to take with you and make sure the consultant answers them all for you before you make any decision.
turn babies turn!

VintageGardenia · 20/06/2008 10:20

Hi guys, I'm grumpy too. Very hard to sleep, it's like some medieval torture, either dog barks or my back stabs or SOMEONE snores or I have to turn over (involves waking up every time) or the alarm goes off or someone sends me a text message at midnight. I feel as if someone is experimenting on me! Have pins and needles in arm and hand, same yesterday, and all snuffly and tendery-glandy in nose and throat and pains near pelvis and generally grrrrrrr, SNAP.

O I am a delight today.

Buckets did I miss something - your mum is having a book launch? Tis fab - what is her book, does she always write books? Citing, as Russell Brand (sigh) would say.

pregnancy1 and Expectant am so with you on the work thing I cannot wait to finish. Official leave starts 14th July but am taking holiday days for the previous week - except that I am so weak I have already agreed to go in on at least one of those days.

bigboy (as Russell Brand might also say) sorry, I have no experience of breech at all, other than a friend whose home birth midwife did manipulate the baby exteriorally (make up words as I go along) and successfully. I refer you to my learned friends TS and CC.

auntiegiggle congratulations to your sis! Great news.

CC how nice to have a little wee thing to practice on! I bet you will shed a tear or two, I'd be bawling on sight.

dizzy YANBU that's standard practice chez Gardenia during hols, adults and children alike! PJs till lunchtime sometimes. (Have not yet ventured to shops in same.)

TS hope your LO has calmed down.

Sazz glad the hired help is back . Honestly, now you can MN in peace and fill out your appraisal form. I'm sure you'll be an excellent performer again .

cyteen · 20/06/2008 10:22

Morning girls, and what a lovely sunny morning it is too

pregnancy1 I think a white outfit with little pink socks sounds just adorable. I've been reasonably sensible up till now re. clothes and stuff, but looking at those sock websites last night has sent me a bit mad and now I can't stop thinking about tiny little toes and how I NEED fields of tiny stripy socks to put them in

Know how you feel on the work thing; I don't know how you fulltimers do it tbh, I only work 2.5 days a week and I'm already absolutely shattered. So glad I finish at the end of next week - I was doing okay till recently but the last week or so has definitely seen the start of my transition into beached-whale mode (turning over and sitting up in bed are suddenly really hard).

gigglegirl congrats on your new nephew, hope you get to hold him soon

Sazzles I'm another one who's been v disappointed by lack of increased norkage during this pregnancy. They've barely gone up a cup size, yet are enthusiastically spreading outward and downward

Sympathies to all those with manic LOs - mine was going crazy all yesterday too! Think he's knackered himself out with it all, he's very quiet today.

I'm a bit worried that I might be getting that stomach muscle separation thing. The last few days I've noticed a strange pain across my bump whenever I sit up or move around...have been trying to not use my stomach muscles and push up with arms instead, but I suspect I'm still doing it the wrong way out of habit.

Sausageandmash · 20/06/2008 10:23

Morning,

I'm 30+4 and want to second the 'alien' experience of oops and twilight. A couple of nights ago at about 4am my bump just went wild - I must have been having a very exciting dream or perhaps it's just got a cheeky streak in it and wanted to find out how grumpy I would be if it wrenched me from sleep! Quite, actually, but tempered by the lovely feeling of knowing it's okay.

I have a great breech story - involving the midwife confirming my dd was well engaged, the hospital 'accelerating' my slowly progressing labour, etc and then, 8 hours into labour, realising "Ta - Da" they could feel a bottom rather than a head! Cue emergency caesarian!
Bigboy - you clearly have a better midwife than I did so I'm sure that they will keep the situation properly monitored and receive the best care, so please don't worry (mine was a ridiculous one off situation I think!)

And finally I asked the obstretician about heart rates later in pregnancy and I THINK she said something like a range of 110 and 150 was normal, as the heart rate slows up in the third trimester.

cyteen · 20/06/2008 10:24

VG, you've never been to the shops in your pyjamas? You haven't lived! I went to the corner shop in PJ trews and a dress last weekend, to buy wine and Fruit Gums for DP Should have just chucked a packet of fags in there for good measure, and really ruin my reputation.

gigglegirl · 20/06/2008 11:09

morning ladies,

Thanks for your congrats message - nephew is mi sisters 2nd! She had a girl 3 days after my DS2 but had an ectopic in between so dlighted for her. Spoke to her last night and she was radiant - had eaten choc cake and spent the rest of the afternoon tucked up with her two kids! Perfect birth by the sounds of it - no pain releif - just TENS at home and her DD1 joined her an hour later with both her grannies!

Morning so far for me has gine, DH offered me a lie in - delighted - fuve minutes after he got up world war three breaks loose as he shouted at DD1 for wetting the bed (she has never done it before and I think was so fast asleeo she hadn't noticed!) so I then had to haul myself out of bed to calm teh situation and strip said bed! Cue me telling DH off for making her feel bad and row ensued!

DH says he's walk DD1 to school, when eventually realised he was still not ready I drove her (DH doesn't drive!)

Big row with DH

returned to man coming to talk about redoing bathroom before it falls apart (he can start in 5 weeks - hmmm sure I might be doing something about then - oh yes - giving birth!!)

Have got out and put away about 20 jigsaws for my boys and now trying to sort out insurance claim for DVDs that were lost (kicked out of car by DHs teenage cousin whilst on holiday!)

It's only 11 and I want to go back to bed but have two kids and a house that looks like a war zone with the washing of a small teaching hospital to contend with!

I NEED CHOCLATE and a good film!

DH out playing footie tonight so might get to chill out at about 8!

gigglegirl · 20/06/2008 11:09

ps am jealous of all you discussing maternity leave - we run our own business so I will never get away!!

TwilightSurfer · 20/06/2008 11:56

6:45am up again because of vehicle thing...feel like death a million bucks. Baby kept her fit going for a least another hour after my post. Expectant I will consider it possible that the full moon was involved but glad to hear many others are having the same issue.

For all of you who are doing the ante-natal classes for a second time, is it worth it? For the birthing info not the social thing?? I only signed up to tour the hospital because it's not the same one I gave birth in last time. The classes were a little dull last time and honestly there are some things that maybe I shouldn't know about. DH really didn't like finding out how babies come out last time AND even though I knew, sitting with him while they showed all the lovely pics & videos.....not very pleasant. I remember at the end of my birthing DD telling DH to not look anywhere in that direction, to clearly stay at my head-shoulder area because I wanted a sex life when the whole thing was over. He laughed...and he looked...GROSS! Thankfully I did have a sex life after...oh you know that already because I'm here.

31+6 and it is a sunny Friday here in the US. I hope everyone has had a nice half day already and looking forward to a splendid afternoon.

Afternoon ladies.

wasted half the day faffing on Mn and facebook, and have just done what I meant to do earlier - clean the bathrooms. Am sure they only look marginally better than when I started, but hey, at least I know they've had cleaning stuff sweished around in them. need to clean the floors but will have a break first. One of the bathrooms (remember we're a vicarage) is so manky. It was probably once just a loo - but the previous people installed a shower - into a room which is SO not geared up for all that steam. I insist on the teeny window being left open all the time, but it is all mildewy and ucky. The diocese came in Novemeber to itemise some works that needed doing in the house - one thing was installing a fan thingummy (what's the right word for it?) in there, and mending the shower and a towel rail (which falls off regularly, leaving big holes in the wall grr). they said it would happen in the new year. It's half way through june now and still nothing. I'm going to cry at dh and make him call them. I don't use the room - I use the bathroom next door but I know it's there looking grim, and also if the shower gets more broken dh and the lodgers would have to use the shower in the bath, which I use and I don't want that. lol. Dh would be ok - but the lodgers nooooooo.

Rant over. Totally pointless but I feel better .

Had a betetr night last night. Dh thought I'd had a bad one - cos he clearly stirred when I went to the loo, but when i pointed out that only two trips to the loo was a GOOD night, he was releievd cos that meant I felt ok to take dd to school rather than making him do it . Looking fwd to tonight - having takeaway AGAIN (Dh an I - dd will have chilli left over from last night with some pasta). I need things to look fwd to at the moment - and it takeaway ticks that box, takeaway we'll have lol!!! Think I may want pizza again.

Bought a new wash bag today for taking into hospital. Saw it in sainsburys - it's one of those ones that folds out and can then be hooked on the back of a door. Lots of compartments for easy identification of what I'm looking for. Put my new toothbrush, toothpaste and some little packs of tissues in there. Does that count as starting to pack?!?!

Shazza2002 · 20/06/2008 13:27

Afternoon all

I thought I'd pop in quickly before I drop off to sleep. Not a very good idea when I'm at work

This week have just generally felt very down, had the hump with DP for no reason atall. I know I have been very unfair to him but does it stop me doing it, hell no

Just cannot wait until this evening when I can go home, have dinner and me and DD can get in bed and watch TV. It's always something I've done that we both enjoy, DD and I either lying on the sofa (not so easy now) or in bed with goodies to eat watching the crap that is Eastenders/Coronation St/Roadwars you get the gist. Normally DD has fallen asleep within 10 minutes so I just get to cuddle her and it's lovely.

On a more positive note, had my hair coloured and cut last night so that feels better today.

Sorry it's a me me me post, I have been reading the thread and it seems like everybody is generally ok apart from a bit of wind here, and a pile there

I did, did nobody notice?

i could sleep anywhere at the moment! Have been averaging about 4 hours sleep a night because of itching and don't have to leave the house today as DD1 going for a play after school so no pick up - as a consequence I think my body has shut down! I have no energy to do anything - staying upright is a huge effort!

Afternoon ladies. Sorry I checked out last night just as you posted Dizzy.

Feeling much better today. Bump aching like crazy after walking to and from work (2 miles each way) but glad to have done it. Also have heartburn for the first time in my life - yes, I know how lucky that it - didn't someone say Magnums work well....?

Sausage - your breech experience is virtually the same as mine. Is is just me or does it seem that breech babies make up more than the oft-cited 3%? I know so many!

Interestingly, I'm finding the baby's positioning far more uncomfortable than last time and I'm pretty sure she's head down now, as opposed to breech last time. I must be very odd.

Hope your DD has gone down now Sazzles. I SO need the lunchtime nap to catch up on my life.

Not surprised you're exhausted Giggle!
