CilC · 13/06/2008 09:03

oh where has the groovy list with bold gone?

So sorry about your little boy disney. I went to Oz 7 weeks after c section and was fine.(though securing a baby passport was more challenging!!!) I took the painkillers I was prescribed and I think this helped my initial mobilisation, which inturn helped me heal quickly...so your holiday should be fine and well deserved! You certainly have a lot on your plate!

It is my 10th wedding anniversary in September and we were planning a trip on the Orient Express...but LO popped up! So have been busy on the internet looking for a romantic, child friendly and special place to go. Have to look at the MN recommendations.

isaidno · 13/06/2008 09:11

Sorry Clic - If you like the bold feel free to cut, paste and re add it!

JODIEhavingababy · 13/06/2008 09:38

Morning all,

Just got back from Reflexology. Absolute heaven, I try to go once a fortnight, and I feel like I'm walking on air now! The effects seem to last for about 10 days though, so worth it....

ISAIDNO, bless your DS, I must admit, waiting ofr baby is abit like waiting for christmas, there is only so much preparing you can do!!

I've forgotten what's in my hospital bag now, might get it out this afternoon and double check it!

Disney Sorry to hear about your son, I didn't realise he was poorly too... How's your hubby now? Is his heart OK now?

CilC · 13/06/2008 09:49

OK have to share this embarassing moment... DH has gone into work late today so he could whiz me around local shops to get a few things. Had very productive shop and saw a few friends and had a quick chat along the way.
Have just got home...and realised in my haste to get out early this morning (which at the moment is 9am) I put two blobs of cream blusher on cheeks and forgot to rub. I look like a clown!!!!

DH said he noticed but thought it could be the latest makeup thing and did not want to offend me.... damned if he did and then if he didn't...

People are really going to think I am not coping and have flipped a bit. Which considering situation with the added efect of placenta brain...is almost excusable...

Libra1975 · 13/06/2008 10:05

Morning all, i am busy trying to book a spa experience for my mother and me for my first day of maternity leave (5.5 working days and counting). Think a little pampering will be nice as this maybe the last chance in a while just to get away from everything and relax before I become a mum and my mum becomes a grandmother!!!

sorry to hear that peoples SPD is getting worse and hope that the docs are able to help you with early babies if necessary.

DS, you are incredible, if you said you were doing an Ironman 2 weeks after giving birth I would probably believe you. I think a holiday sounds like a great idea and I'm sure you will be all healed by then. Power of positive thinkig

Welcome to all the newbies, I hope you have bought your own raspberry tea

minipink/Minkus - I think if I knew I was 3cm dilated I would walk around terrified it was going to fall out at any moment. Hope they stay a little longer cooking.

rumpel - went to your profile page to check out claims of fatness but we need a photo of you! (photos of the kids are adorable tho!)

kaz - woohooo about college work and cross fingers over moving.

ButterflyM - I find the hiccups annoying as well. THIRTY pints of milk?? How big is your fridge?

Baby still lying transverse, DH talks to it every night telling it to go down into my pelvis but it seems to be ignoring him so far, obv takes after me.

Still no hospital bag packed.

Minkus · 13/06/2008 10:06

Gosh Disney you've got a lot to contend with in your life at the moment. Have you got good friends close by? Remember you saying your family wasn't close by. You're quite amazing, coping so stoically.

Are you going to try and get baby to move from back to back? I might scrub the kitchen floor later to try and get mine to turn round

CilC I am with you on being fed up of baby chat. I just wish I could think of something else! But nope, all roads lead back to babies and I think I'm just going to have to give in and accept it.

Poledra noooooo not the dishwasher!!!! Quick get someone out to fix it! That would completely scupper me. Ours even has a name she is called Mary, she's that loved .

Pigley I didn't think 2 slices of pineapple would be enough either really. But rofl and ButterflyMcq in the supermarket with 6 of them! If it doesn't kick start your labour lovey your innards are going to be very clean!

Think this lo is itching to get out though, woke with bad bh's in the night and have had small contraction twinges on and off since about 7 this morning. But nowt serious enough to get dh home from work for lol! Have driven ds to nursery and now have huge amounts of energy so have tidied through entire house done 2 loads of washing repacked my hospital bag and about to do the dusting/hoovering. If this isn't nesting I shall be interested to see what is cos I hate housework normally!

Hope to post later unless I am mooing already (yes I was a mooer last time too, quite a lot of gurning as well apparently)
x

There you go Cilc, just for you to cheer you (and your rosy cheeks!) up!!!!

Minkus · 13/06/2008 10:09

CilC lol x 1000 at your blusher

And Libra what a nice way to start your mat leave. A good mum is hard to find! (A la feargal sharkey)

Minkus · 13/06/2008 10:09

CilC lol x 1000 at your blusher

And Libra what a nice way to start your mat leave. A good mum is hard to find! (A la feargal sharkey)

Libra1975 · 13/06/2008 10:14

Minkus I am so lucky after reading about the horror stories on mumsnet about mothers and MIL, both mine are fantastic (even if slightly eccentric in their own ways) and both are really looking forward to becomning grannies but neither of them will be pushy or interfering.

EEC · 13/06/2008 10:29

polly - hope Last few weeks are manageable or you. welcome to our merry throng!

Minipink and Minkus - what an experience for you both. If you start dilating then settles down, does it undiltae or does it just stay like that until you start again? Probably silly question!

Kaz. Wel done on course. Good for you. How are you keeping sane what with that and house stuff too. I'm full of admiration.

Disney - what a lot you have to cope with. Hope your DS has a great time (as do you all).

CilC LOL at makeup fiasco. I almost never look in the mirror anymore - it's too depressing!

Am off to clean kitchen floor. The joys! Too ashamed to admit when I last did it! Have been feeling so rubbish.

RUMPEL · 13/06/2008 10:34

WELCOME AGGIE, DONUT and POLLI

MINI and MINKUS - exciting stuff! I would be soo pissed off it mine had stopped - boo!

CILC - ha ha at your blusher! I have 1 skirt that I wera with leggings and I always have to check as I have been known to have it tucked into the top of me leggings wandering around

LIBRA - no chance of getting a photo of me! I look hellish - might get Dh to put 1 of my bump up though - very round and low with attractive blue veins running across - no stretch marks though lucky me.

I really hate the way my arms are so wobbly though - you know up near your pits - it's horrid! All that fluid retention that is happening now - bleurgh!

DISNEY - you have 2 sons with Crouzons Syndrome, 1 with Downs Syndrome and 1 with skin cancer ? And your DH has just had a heart attack - how on earth are you coping? Did you see your GP re meds for you and some support? There is loads of skin cancer in my family - I make sure my DD wears sunshades all the time in the sunny weather - she has uber pale skin like me but has gray/blue eyes too. I spent 4 years in Kuwait as a child so am just waiting on getting it too. My Aunt has to have her lower eyelid removed and skin graft form her ear and she had never even been abroad! I always thought a melanoma was a mole but hers wasn't so a note of advice to you ladies - you can get melanoma (most serious skin cancer which spreads into lymph) on any area of skin - although it is rare - most common in moles.

SWEETKITTY - you probably don't sound like that then I am sure you have a lovely accent I am always horrified at how high my voice sounds - to me it sounds quite deep I used to have an English accent as I learned to speak in Exxex and went to international schools - but then I moved to sunny Drumchapel as a student and that sorted that out. What school did you got to? My DHs Uncle teached chemistry at St Andrews (what was St Andrews) I had the misfortune of going to Ardrossan Academy tip of a place!

BUTTERFLY - how lovely of your Dhs friend - must have made you feel like a million dollars - so nice to get a compliment

PIGLEY - you always make me laugh with your furniture, baby stuff stories. You won't need to buy anything for your next one at all!

KAZ - hurrah!! Relief and very well done to you. Are you leave of abscence now or is that you completely finished?

JODIE - am very of your reflexology. I haven't found anyone to do it here yet - can't afford it as well as the CS too though. It is my very most favourite treatment. Although I give myself a foot massage very day.

Had a fish supper last night - bad idea as = runny bum today! And that is so horrible on iron tabs - makes your poo really dark and stink! TMI!

Was also forced to go buy Empire biccies - I am giving birth to a biccie addict or a colonial monster! Couldn't get to sleep until gone 3.30am last night as so hot and uncomfy. DD was crying form 6am and I didn't hear her so DH had to get up! She has gone to sleep now so I am off to massage my feet and watch some TV in peace and quiet for a wee while.

My P+T arrives today I shall try not to chop my finger off like TWINKLES DH TWINKLE have you popped yet?

RUMPEL · 13/06/2008 10:37

Apologies to English teachers for typos - I teach too but have computer dyslexia My fingers go too fast and I can't be arsed checking and redoing!

RUMPEL · 13/06/2008 10:41

Thought I would re add this list from the other thread.

Hospital Bag

For you

2 or 3 nighties or PJs
Sanitary pads (heavy duty about 2 packs)
Knickers (disposable, old or tesco value!)
Toileties - shampoo, soap, etc
Hairbrush
breast pads
Lasinoh cream (start slapping it on as soon as you are feeding to prevent sore nips)
Pampers bed mats (good for underneath you just after the birth saves you having to ask the MWs to change the sheets)
Disposable wipes for cleaning the toilet
money for phone etc.
Clothes to go home in (comfy, stretchy ones - do not pack your size 8 skinny jeans unless you are Posh Spice)
Make-up to perk yourself up for visitors
Lactulose ? for easing out the first poo! Pain killers etc and cause constipation ? so not good after tearing, stitches, swollen netherbits.

For baby
nappies, nappy sacks
cotton wool or wipes (cotton wool is useless at getting meconium off)
hat (even in July)
pair of scratch mitts
vests and babygros (number depending on how long you plan to stay - I would say at least 3 of each)
cute outfit to go home in
Muslins

Birthing bag

TENS Machine - unless you are already wearing it.
Birthing Ball - great for getting those contractions going again incase they ease off once you get to the hospital.
Old nightie / t shirt to give birth in
Pair of socks - believe it or not your feet can get really cold!
Disposable / old / cheap knickers and a couple of sanitary pads for afterwards
1 x nappy, vest and babygro & vaseline - smear it over baby's bottom before putting first nappy on. Makes the meconium very easy to get off without making baby sore.
Camera!
Some CDs so you can have whatever music you like playing in the background to help you relax.
A couple of flannels for DH to 'mop your brow' (makes him feel useful!)
2 towels (red or navy)
Some snacks to keep your energy up. I've been told those Lucozade glucose tablets are good.
Straws - rather than trying to sip from a cup and spilling water, much easier to sip through a straw whilst DH holds the cup.
List of people DH needs to phone to announce the news phonenumbers
Maternity notes and birthplan
Socks, feet get cold during labour

Libra1975 · 13/06/2008 10:42

rumpel how odd, I lived in Kuwait as a child as well between 1978-82 I think! Maybe our parents knew each other

sweetkitty · 13/06/2008 11:00

Morning ladies MW just away she was a third year student and remembers my homebirth from 2 years ago and she was gutted she missed it. Alls well with DD3, she was lying funny this morning back over to right hand side head bouncing about, don't care as long as she sorts herself out for labour. Had a good old moan about the dodgy pelvis, just lying on my back for a few minutes whilst they do the heartbeat is agony.

Rumpel - Ardrossan oh you are positively posh then, I went to good old Auchenharvie. Right you have to road test the P&T for me, tell me what you think and measure your DD and tell me what she looks like in the front

Minkus - and at your energy can you pass some onto me please?

libra1975 - at your spa day, although spending a day with my mother would be hell but hey thats another story.

poledra - oh no not the dishwasher I would cry and then be done Comet with Dp's credit card.

pigley - was it you that was talking about pineapples, I eat 2 whole ones last time (told you I was deperate) and they were horrble and I like pineapple, they made my mouth go all funny and acidic and gave me the runs, never again, oh and DD2 still didn't shift. Think that was the pineapple/curry/clary sage/hour on ball/sex day!

Disney - hang on in there my dear x

Right am suppsoed to be doing the Tesco online order, did someone else ask about discount codes, if you go into Promotional Codes/Bargains topic theres a Tesco codes thread. Cna't be bothered doing a link sorry.

OP posts:
catec · 13/06/2008 11:21

Morning all and welcome to newbies.

I hadn't heard of the pineapple thing till just now but I have been eating loads of them (managed pretty much a whole one last night) - the only cravings I seem to have had this pregnancy are for fresh fruit, mainly grapes and pineapples - have to be cold though.

FenLondon - I have been drinking the Becks alcohol free beer the whole way through - it is fab, I always take a 6 pack along to BBQs etc! DP says he doesn't even reckon he would be able to tell the difference in a blind test. Very refreshing anyway.

We're heading back to NZ at end of September - 2 months after due date - so also a bit worried about getting passport in time. Especially as we are both on NZ passports so we first have to get her prove her NZ citizenship (since she will be born here) before we can apply for her NZ passport. Sounds like the NZ commission is reasonably efficient though - much easier than trying to get my visa through the Home Office here!

Rumpel - I am amazed you can give yourself a foot massage - how do you reach?! I tried to paint my toenails in the weekend and made a right mess of it. DP has to give me mine (and do my swollen legs) and the end of each day. He is looking forward to the end of this pg as much as I am!

TGIF - Only 2 weeks at work left to go after this week!

Bought moses basket last night - first item we have purchased for Daisy! We are waiting till after baby shower to make sure we don't double up on anything. Shower is tomorrow so really looking forward to that. 25 girls coming over for champagne and cupcakes, will be lovely.

Solved buggy dilemma too - Mountain Buggy new model is still in production and we were not going to be able to get for a couple of months, so we have ordered that for our arrival back in NZ, and in the meanwhile our friends have very kindly offered us their Bugaboo (they have just had number 2 and now have a Phil and Teds double). So glad that worked out.

Have a nice day all.

Polyxene · 13/06/2008 11:57

Gosh, I'm going to struggle keeping up with reading all these posts!

Thanks again for welcomes

And thanks very much RUMPEL for posting the hospital bag list - very handy as I'm finally getting round to doing that today (cutting it a bit fine with less that 3 weeks till due date! On the other hand, baby not engaged at all, so no reason to think things will kick off early...) Anyway, list made me realise I'd forgotten to make a note of some very important things - Lansinoh, and my maternity notes and birth plan, oops!

(Not that I've written up my birth plan yet either, hey ho. I was so much more organised last time round - I think it's the looking-after-toddler bit that's distracting me this time!)

JODIEhavingababy · 13/06/2008 12:22

Well, very nice morning... Very quiet, DH out at a meeting, DS at nursery, I've got some work done at last and alls well in baby land...

Catec Just had to say, I LOVE the name Daisy, it's so beautiful. My nana was a Maisy and that was on our list for girls, but we won't get to use it now

Minkus can I use your local knowledge.... Where's good to eat in Cheltenham, where to avoid? Also Sunday lunch the next day, thought we might drive back through some nice villages before picking DS up, any recomendations?

CilC · 13/06/2008 12:53

Catec - if you are returning to UK after trip to NZ then do not make the same mistake as me and get international passport first. My DD was almost not allowed back into UK when we returned as she had no visa or UK passport. She was allowed in as a tourist, but they were quite stern with me and also going off for a talk with immigration after such a long flight really cheesed me off!

My Tabitha should have been a Daisy - MIL fault!!! Byt Tab works for her now. If this LO had been a girl she was going to be Daisy. Still can not decide on boy's name...the debate continues...

Thanks for laughing at me everyone...I soooo deserved it!

As to spelling mistakes - confinement, pain, hormones and no life have made me so anal (can I say that?). Not normally like that...I mean BIG picture woman - get over it...but I have become quite sad lately... .

Oh and thanks Jodie! Made my day!

catec · 13/06/2008 13:14

Thanks, Jodie - Maisie was the other name we were looking at (I love it too) but I do love the idea of having a flower named after her!

CilC - she cannot get a UK passport unfortunately as neither I nor DP are UK citizens. Doesn't look like we are coming back at this stage (to live permanently anyway) so should be okay.

We were struggling with a boy's name too so glad she is a girl - made it a lot easier. Felix is the one we were leaning towards.

JODIEhavingababy · 13/06/2008 13:31

We are struggling with boys names too, it's so hard... Think we've decided on Jamie now then, going round the wreakin with Miles, Daniel, Jack, Michael, god every which one!!! I'll probably take one look at him and ANOTHER name will pop into my head, one we've never even thought!

Libra1975 · 13/06/2008 13:32

boys names are MUCH easier than girls names!

JODIEhavingababy · 13/06/2008 13:33

I am so excited. My new bread maker came today and I've just 'made' my first loaf! House smells divine and it's delicious!!!!1
