Thanks Cass You're right, but it's just the one MW there that's a bit unpleasant IME. It's a shame she's running the classes because I'm not sure I really want to go to the others. There doesn't seem to be much point in ending up feeling rotten afterwards, and there wasn't any new information (have found out so much from MN!). All the more local information related to the unit and I've heard enough horror stories about the hospital without being told them by a MW.

I'm hoping that all the intervention she's "planned" for me won't necessarily happen - it's only because my BP is slightly higher than it should be so I can't see why I would automatically need a C-section although I'm quite happy for whatever intervention is necessary. I'm not too fussed about a natural birth as I just want to have my baby safely.

Anyway, I'm just being stupidly sensitive really - I know other people have far worse problems to worry about. Might go and have a relaxing bath and read something silly!

Isaidno - good luck, hopefully we'll have another birth announcement tomorrow

Kaz1967 · 16/06/2008 22:16

Heffagooday How bloody insensitive sort of midwife I have the urge to slap

isaidno Woo hoo another one down go girl

sweetkitty yep despite there being a possible problem I feel so much better than after the other 2 appointments. Most important was being listened to and point of view accepted, but also was not made to feel old or fat if I do end up in being monitored (as long as they do not put me on the ward I was on before) think it will be fine. Saying that think she read my notes she actually said that she would try and keep me at home unless really needed.

purplejennyrose · 16/06/2008 22:21

Hello again all
Just got internet access on hols - having a lovely time on the Pembrokeshire coast!
Congratulations minipink!! - she's gorgeous! And what a 'nice' labour.
Minnie1 - best wishes to you and dp - really hope they find out what exactly is wrong.
Heffa - how awful and tactless!! Anyway, all the other women may be booked in to midwife unit, but a fair few will end up being transferred to hosp for various reasons, so she should be more sensitive for everyone's sake. Dunno if it's worth saying something to someone about it...
Umm, what else, have forgotten most of what I've just read! Oh, no to nappybins! Rip-off invention. NAppies straight into outside bin, can always use nappy sacks!
Well, have tried a few times to go head down bum up to shift this baby - but as soon as I do she goes really still, and then my hips sieze up and I collapse. She just seems extremely comfy with her head tucked in my ribs.. Having a nice restful holiday anyway, dd loves the 'big water' and making sandcastles, eating lots of nice food, and I'm even getting lots of sleep!!

Minkus · 16/06/2008 22:37

Aaaargh isaidno you lucky lucky thing!

Really good luck hope we'll be reading your birth announcement in the morning! (Or as soon as you are able )

Kaz so pleased you've finally found someone who will listen sensibly to you. Must be a brilliant feeling to finally feel validated after having such a tough time with the professionals you've encountered thus far.

Sleepycat I'd be tempted not to go- I'm 37 weeks today and feeling a bit vulnerable to be honest, just driving through the country lanes round here to get ds to nursery etc leaves me worrying about something happening and not being able to get a mobile signal. I'd be worried about dh not making it too!

Off to bed now to do some visualisation (i.e praying really hard that I will start labour in the night [grin[)

Good luck again Isaidno! xx

ButterflyMcQueen · 16/06/2008 22:47

ISAIDNO well done you all the best will think of you all night!!

will read rest of thread later!

purplejennyrose · 16/06/2008 23:10

Good luck isaidno...

JODIEhavingababy · 16/06/2008 23:13

Good luck ISAIDNO

Kaz1967 · 17/06/2008 06:19

Minkus personally I think the her behaviour just shows her experience, confidence, and maturity. I have seen it all before those who have confidence in their own practice and ability are usually the ones who are willing to listen.

I have not actually been unreasonable through this anyone who has been willing to listen (my midwife and the diabetic midwife) to why I feel like I do will know that the test would have known that I was not being pig headed and was looking for another way to do this which I have now because I am taking my own blood sugars. I was asking for information, explaining why for me this would be a problem Starve me I will get a headache and feel sick all day, become more likely to have a panic attack because it effects my depression for which I have just come off medication and I stop being able to cope as well with with crowds and noise, give me that much sugar at one go I would puke and that would invalidate the result anyway. But I also said that if there had been any clinical signs there was a problem (baby size, extra amniotic fluid, sugar in wee) then I would have gone through it despite knowing it would make me ill.

Part of it was there fault anyway they knew from the start I have an allergy to the preservative they stick in 90% of drinks and were not prepared to find an alternative for me. That took me over 12 weeks of badgering them to find out and by then I was pissed off. I cannot be the only woman in the world who cannot drink Lucazade, having spoken to the diabetic support midwife I know I am not. They now know a substitute so at least they have been educated

disneystar · 17/06/2008 07:25

remember ladies i said minipink and she did
also isaidno was next on my list

minkus i hope you are ready to

il give you an update on what my next prediction is tomorrow

hugs isaidno cant wait to hear from you

sweetkitty · 17/06/2008 08:00

Morning ladies

isaidno - hope things kicked off for you in the night and you now have a beautiful baby. Am still all pineapple did for me was give me a numb mouth and the runs!

sleepycat - I feel so much like you fed up and exhausted with no time for the DC. I don't know about the hen weekend, personally I wouldn't but then I have fast labours. Chances are though you will be fine.

kaz - so glad you are feeling a bit more positive, I hate the way the MWs etc have a standardised regime i.e. you must have this if you are X etc people aren't standard they are all different, every woman and her baby are different. Good for you standing your ground.

purplejenny - glad you are having a nice time on holiday, this LO is head down and wiggles her bum from side to side. Loads of MN about trying to turn a breech baby, time to start shining that torch lol

Rainy day here today just going to have a quiet one maybe do some baking with the DDs later.

Sorry ladies; nothing to report!
After a sleepless night with only the odd twinge I am still waiting for labour to actually start.

have to go to hospital about 11 am for monitoring as it will be 18 hrs since the waters broke.

Drinking some more RL tea and been bouncing and pacing to no avail.

Will keep you posted!

Hope little isaidno has arrived safe and sound. How exciting.

Kaz well done for sticking to your guns.

DH is supposed to be doing round the island race 28,29 June. I will be 38 weeks. He's organised for the children to be away so I won't have to look after them, or worry about them if I go into labour, but he will be on a boat and hours from home (we are about 3 1/2 hours drive, as well as how long it would take to get back to the mainland, if I can even contact him). Realistically if I did go into labour I would probably be by myself as all family live too far away. He had said originally that he wouldn't go, but foolish me said 'no, no, I will be fine, so unlikely to be that w/e'. I am now starting to worry with all these early labours going on! Don't know whether to change my mind now. It would mean him letting people down, and also, he has been really down for a long time - and I think it would be really good for him. What to do!

EEC · 17/06/2008 08:42

X post - sorry you are still waiting isaidno. But it will happen soon. Maybe you are contracting without feeling it (nice thought heh?) some people do!

pigleychez · 17/06/2008 08:51

Morning all,

isaidno- hope things happen for you soon.

Need to spend the morning tidying as have a friend visiting this afternoon with her 1yr old but im sooo tired and could easily go back to bed.

Had tears in bed last night as my right leg hurt so much! Felt like i had weights tied to my joints. Poor DH was giving them a rub but it didnt really help.

Hope the sun comes out today as i need to get some washing out.

sweetkitty · 17/06/2008 09:28

aww isaidno I thought you would have a baby by now, how long do they "leave you" after waters have gone, with DD1 it was 48 hours but I have heard up until 96 before they intervene.

I want my waters to go about 3 hours before labour starts just so I can get organised, get the Dds sorted, phone everyone and sort out the room, with DD2 it was straight into contractions so no time.

Am burping up acid this morning yuck!

Libra1975 · 17/06/2008 09:44

isadino - oh how exciting, good luck at the hospital. *crosses everything for you.

Heffa - that's just unspeakable, pretend your pregnancy hormones have gone to your head and take her aside before the next session and tell her exactly how you feel about her comments, and point out to her that it can't reassure the other women who may for some reason need to transfer during labour. Saying that I'm still standing on the tube so I know speaking up isn't that easy.

Pigley - there is a gorgeous massage bar that Lush do, get one of them and get your DH to give your legs a thorough rub not just gently stroking but almost causing more discomfort.

EEC - I'm sorry I have no advice for your situation, I've put a 2 pint limit on DH from 38 weeks onwards as I'm paranoid about going into labour and him not being around. However could you get one of your friends to come and stay for the weekend? Also remember the % chance of it happening that weekend is tiny, you just have to spend the weekend telling your LO is stay put. No curry or pineapple for you that weekend.

Sleepycat - a tough call, a 2 hour drive versus the fact it's your sisters hen do. Are you close to your sis?

DisneyStar could you predict the 4th July for me please.

I have actually (finally) started to relax about the labour. We went to the maternity ward last weekend and I think it all really hit me and then I realised that I can do this and I will do this and we will have the most amazing present at the end. Oh god 4 weeks today (yeah I know it's not going to be on time exactly) I'm going to be a mum

Poledra · 17/06/2008 09:50

Morning all, had a dreadful night here with heartburn - everytime I turned over I got a throat full of acid - yuck!

isaidno - come on girl, get on with it . Sending positive vibes your way.

disneystar don't you dare predict my birth until after 09th July, you hedgewitch! Until then, don't have cover to look after the dds and someone to drive us to hospital (dh cannot drive). Anytime after that would be good though .

Heffa I'm so cross for you - tell the mw to go get a job she likes . Even if they need to monitor you, you do not have to be on the bed all the time. DD2 was a VBAC, so I was on continuous monitoring, but that didn't mean I couldn't move around. The mws at my hospital were quite happy to readjust the pads if necessary, and very encouraging about getting me to move (as I am a natural-born sloth by inclination...). Actually, with only high BP, do you even need continuous monitoring? Maybe Kaz can enlighten us on that one.

Right, off to try and finish my filing before the end of the week, or the poor bugger taking over my workload will have no idea where anything's at!

cass66 · 17/06/2008 10:10

hi girls. first day officially off work. girls at school/nursery. very difficult to not do too much - I have at least 3 loads of washing, lots of old clothes to sort out, could do some cooking etc. AND I'm on MN!!

EEC - your husband/partner sounds like mine. he's planning his next 'challenge', could be a 12 hour mountain bike race in manchester, 1 week AFTER the baby is born. my mum will be here so I've said he can go, I know he will be unbearable without any challenge to aim for. too much adrenaline!! I think in your situation I would let your other half go, and cross your legs!! ask friends to be on hand to help, just in case. as said the chances of anything happening are slim. and think how nice he'll be to you afterwards!

ISAIDNO - thinking of you, my waters broke at 38 weeks with my first and little happened for 24hrs. however, my BP went up and I had pre-eclampsia, so I'm not a great case study! I do remember it was the weekend of the football world cup final 2002, and so I stayed at home to watch it and had pizza before going in to hosp!! good luck.

took some photos of me and a friend who's 2 weeks more preg than me. hubby pointed out I was bigger than her. hmmmm, while I value his honesty, it's reminded me how much work I'm going to have to do, dieting and exercising after this. hmm. Cass.

Minkus · 17/06/2008 10:16

Lol Disney I soo hope you're right and that my labour swiftly follows Isaidno's!

Isaidno I woke up at dawn as per normal and instead of my first thought being "oh I need a wee" it was "I wonder if Isaidno has had her baby yet?" - I even dreamt about the lot of you on this thread last night, we were all pushing buggies! Maybe I shouldn't mn before bed, it's like strong cheese for giving me dreams

Have just hoovered the whole house and feel like a snooze now- after the pineapple of course

Have a good day all xx

Heffagooday · 17/06/2008 10:25

Thanks all for your support. I'm rubbish at speaking up, but I might mention it to my assigned midwife. She's a lot nicer and also works at the unit so the feedback would still get through. Since some of the women are bound to be transferred (most of them were only 28 weeks, so it's possible their plans will change before birth) it's hardly beneficial to plant this image of the hospital as a horrible place.

Poledra - I'm not sure if I really would need continuous monitoring, no-one else has mentioned it apart from this woman (who I don't particularly trust). Does anyone else know?

Anyway, I'm feeling a lot better this morning but I still think I'll say something as it wasn't really necessary.

Isaidno - good luck, I came and checked the thread first thing to see if anything had happened! Sounds like Minkus is going to next, if Disney's right!

mcchesers · 17/06/2008 11:27

Poledra- You know I never had any heartburn/AR the whole time with this pregnancy, and just in the last six weeks, it has been a nightmare.
I did find that adjusting the top of the bed has helped lately.

Isaidno - Go baby mama!!Can't wait to see new baby pictures.

Pigley- I was given this really cool peppermint leg and foot cream that Burt's Bees makes and DH rubs it on my legs and feet works a treat!

Heffa - really about your MW.

There's a program about the Alamo on discovery channel..so damn homesick! (snif)

Mummywannabe · 17/06/2008 12:18

Gosh these babies are coming thick and fast arn't they!

Minnie - hope your ok and DP is recovering

Isaidno - Goodluck!

Pigley - belated happy anniversary. Cake sounds fab!

Heffa - I would mention it if i were you, perhaps she will stop and think next time.

Had check up with consultant today, platelets fine. Had growth scan, lady was so nice and we got to see this little one in so much detail. Measuring tiny bit small but still normal/ Apparently has a full head of hair (you could see the fluffy bits ). Approx weight 5lb 10 at moment.

37 weeks today, how much weight do they put on in the last few weeks?

Heffagooday · 17/06/2008 12:21

Mcchesers - sorry to hear you're feeling homesick. When do you get to go home?

Mummywannabe - lucky you, having a scan! Glad everything's OK.

DH pointed out that when the MW had asked if anyone knew the difference between the hospital and the unit and someone said 'the hospital has doctors' the MW had pulled a face and started talking about how MWs are specialists. Think she has a bit of an agenda tbh.

Minkus · 17/06/2008 12:38

Mummywannbe at your baby having lots of visible hair! How cute! You can start visualising what it might look like now.

I had a scan last Tuesday whilst in hosp and the lady estimated the weight then (at 36 +3) as 7lb 4oz . She did say that it could be up to 1lb either side though and I think they gain between 1/2 lb to 1lb a week ish. So that's a pretty wide scale for me, could be between 8lb 4oz or 12lb 4oz! Prob somewhere in the middle, towards the lower end I'm hoping

Although if it weighs 5lb or 12 lb it's gonna hurt either way, not a lot I can do about that. Newborn heads are all pretty much of a muchness I've been told and that's the difficult bit so don't think the weight actually has much to do with pain (desperate attempts at rationalising here)

My TENS should arrive tomorrow and I'm picking up the crib too (should have been last week but events put that plan on hold)- maybe then the baby will decide that I'm prepared enough and put in an appearance. Still getting period pains and am v v v fed up of pineapple but am trying to do SweetKitty's reverse psychology thang and expect it to come at 42 weeks
