kaz - best of luck today, you give them what for!

Tjuice - lovely to hear from you, you sound a lot more positive about BFing now, first week always rough but you've done the hard part now so hang on in there, it's such a steep learning curve for the two of you but your getting there. Glad you like the mini Medula (was that my recommendation) I've never used a manual pump think the mini medula was recommended to me when pregnant with DD1 too.

Jodie - I'm doing a bit of reverse pyschology on this LO, DD1 was due in August came in July I was the second one to have a baby on my antenatal thread, was a total shock as first babies are supposed to be early. So second time I though oh I'll be early again had everything ready before Christmas just in case and I was second last off the January thread as she didn't come until the 26th (due date 14th ). So this time I'm thinking oh I'll be late again no need to panic................. (see where I'm going )

Anyway dropped the DDs off at nursery have 2 hours child free now away for a long shower now, just had some Gaviscon and a RLT tablet (my staple diet).

Morning all, I was keeping up during the weekend but was in a listening rather than talking mood.

Firstly congratuaions minipink, she is adorable. I know this sounds stupid but it's really weird looking at the photos of an actual real life breathing baby the same age as the one I have still got inside me. So happy it went well for you and you are back at home already.

Minne - so sorry to hear about your DH, I hope the hospital is able to come up with some answers for you soon.

Rumpel - it's very likely our parents did know each other as my father was in oil as well (SGS/REdwood). I don't suppose you went to Alsura school? Or did you go to the international one?

Pigleychez - congratulations! how about arundel, that is lovely and quite near you I think. I got married just round the corner in Amberley - was lovely

TJuice - glad the b/f has worked out, and that the combats got there, very jealous that they fit you tho!

Woke up this morning and felt this weird trickling sensation down my legs and for a very brief moment thought o-ohh my waters have broken however I think it was my mind playing tricks on me!

Got my hospital bag half packed!!!

isaidno · 16/06/2008 09:52

Happy Anniversary Pigley!

Just got back from shopping; bought a pineapple. Don't even like pineapple, but will eat it later anyway.

Tjuice - I found button up shirts quite good for bf - just undo amount of button reqd. I've never had specific bf clothing. Glad you're finding the bf easier.

JODIEhavingababy · 16/06/2008 09:57

Happy Anniversary Pigley, have been making sacrifices to the rain gods this morning (chocolate ones ), so you should get a dry day!

sweetkitty · 16/06/2008 10:34

isaidno - wouldn't bother with the pineapple apart from to make a nice dessert, you have to eat about 7 of them to get the effect from the enzyme, can you imagine what 7 pineapples would do to your insides

pigley - I never had any BFing tops just had normal tops which I pulled up and unfastened bra. If you are a bit shy about exposing post baby tum a boob tube type top underneath can help (have seen that before) or a muslin or shawl over you.

DonutMum · 16/06/2008 10:55

Morning all, just mooching around. Did an e-bay auction on maternity wear and got over a hundred quid for two dresses and a pair of jeans yippee! Now clearing out my wardrobe to get more stuff to sell as well as tidying it up - am getting quite particular about things being just so - nesting I hope.

sweetkitty, like the boob tube idea. am also doing the reverse psychology on this one - ds1 was 4 days early, ds2 8 days late so am assuming late for this one and just relaxing..

happy anniversary pigley. hope you have a lovely day out.

sweetkitty · 16/06/2008 10:57

I'm sure the boob tube thing was a proper feeding top, I only saw someone else use it but it was like a cross between a boob tube and a tubigrip that you wore underneath your clothes and under your bra so when you pulled your top up nothing was exposed. I should go off and find it now, would be good for holding in saggy tum as well.

Libra1975 · 16/06/2008 11:09

The pjs at hospital thing, instead of forking out for pjs I will never wear again I am presuming that if I bought a couple of pairs of baggy tracksuit bottoms/yoga pants (tesco a fiver each!) and some nursing vests they would do the same job?

gillythekid · 16/06/2008 11:15

I've just bought 2 stripey boob tubes from Primark that I'm wearing as belly bands, only £1.50 each!
TJuice really encouraging to hear your BF progress.
Just ordered my Bumgenius reusable nappies, got a voucher from Hackney council for £50 off...result! Been cooking and freezing loads.
Still not sleeping well and waking every hour with the hip pain, had a cranio sacral session yesterday and she's offered to come round at the birth and to do a treatment on baba.
Hope everyone is soldiering on today, this last bit has been a bit crap for me but can't wait to get the prize at the end!

cass66 · 16/06/2008 11:26

hi guys.

Tjuice, I, like SK, never bothered with special breastfeeding tops. I just pulled up my top. I found the baby and my arm usually covered my wobbly tum, or I draped a muslin over her. prefered that to undoing buttons, felt more exposed that way. Am also a bit militant about feeding in cafes etc - am planning to go to Costa Coffee in York and feed, as there was something in the news a while back about a mum being asked to leave!

I have also had problems with iron results - was at my GP's today booking midwife and blood test appts. asked re my latest bloods - receptionist (very nice) said it was ok, I then asked what the actual Hb was and she said 8.6. well, thats not normal in my book! had a bit of a whinge to a friend at playgroup dropoff, then when I got home the receptionist rang and said she had checked with the GP and my Hb was 12.2, not 8.6. bit of a difference, I was about to rush out to the health store to get some floradex! will leave it now and keep eating red meat and spinach!

kids bunk beds come today, they are very excited, even though we have told them they are flatpacked and won't get put up for a few days!!!

Feel huge, have ordered some new post preg clothes on line, thoroughly fed up of my preg 'uniform'. anyone else bored of going to the loo all the time! Cass.

JODIEhavingababy · 16/06/2008 11:28

Oh those boob tube things sound like a brill idea, and another layer for the 'leakage' to try to get through!!!!!

LIBRA1975 I've bought a couple of pairs of 'maternity' PJ's that have BF straps, which I am wearing now (Not now now, at bedtime! ), and will wear afterwards... But there is no reason why you can't do what you suggested, just make sure your comfortable at night!

Libra1975 · 16/06/2008 11:31

Cheers Jodie, it's just that mothercare have some nursing vests on offer and I am about to put in an order anyway so thought would chuck a couple of them into the basket! I wear the support vests a lot anyway as find they are useful under clothes for streamlining and modesty purposes and are comfortable to sleep in at night.

Another question - this time for the old guard - nappy wrapper bins - yay or nay?

cass66 · 16/06/2008 11:37

I would say nay, but I tend to use washable nappies.

but I still think they smell, why not just put them in a lidded bucket then empty it frequently into the dustbin?? they seem to be just more plastic, and take up more space.

I'm sure others will swear by them, though!

Cass

JODIEhavingababy · 16/06/2008 11:38

LIBRA Personally I don't think I would, even wet nappies STINK, so it's best to get rid straight away in the outside bin!!!! Waste of money IMHO.....

EEC · 16/06/2008 11:43

Minnie 1 - sending big hugs to you. I hope they get to the bottom of things soon. Hang in there..

Minipink - waht a delicious baby. Utterly gorgeous.

libra - never bothered with nappy bin myself.

I think with bf - all babies and mums are different - some have no difficulty latching on and can feed discretely wearing pretty much anything. Others (me for example) found the positioning etc tricky and couldn't do it easily without showing myself to the world! The feeding itself was fine - just the getting latched on was tricky. I don't have a problem with feeding in public, per se. I think we all should if we can - but for me I was just much happier when on my own in a quiet place. Hopefully this time will be easier.

Heffagooday · 16/06/2008 11:55

Minipink - what a gorgeous little girl! Congratulations Beautiful name as well!

Pigley - Happy Anniversary! Hope you have a fab day

Heffagooday · 16/06/2008 11:57

Ok, this sounds a bit gross but I just typed my last post and then looked down to realise that my top had blood on it and realised my nose was bleeding. Haven't had a nose bleed before but I remember reading that they're a normal side-effect of pregnancy - can someone confirm?

isaidno · 16/06/2008 12:00

libra - nappy wrapper bins = waste of money.

But...If you do want one i think you get a voucher for a free one in the bounty pack you get after birth. I think it's an angelcare one you get from Argos.

Minkus · 16/06/2008 12:08

Libralady I think Megan Louisa is an absolutely beautiful name (however I am terribly biased as my name is Louisa )

Minnie how scary for you and your dh- I bet he's really shaken up by it. I think men can be really floored by health problems, especially if they are supposed to be the "tower of strength" in a situation like pregnancy. Hope you both take it easy.

Isaidno I've also gone out and got a fresh pineapple this morning! Don't fancy eating 7 of them SKitty but it will be nice munching on some cold juicy fruit anyway, it's a lovely day today so I might chop it and bung it in the freezer for a while so it's semi frozen and chomp my way through it in the garden mmmmm

Happy anniversary mr and mrs piggles

Jodie did you have a nice time in Cheltenham?

I agree with others about the nappy bin things- sis had one and it just stank, just chuck em out one at a time problem solved.

heffa info about nosebleeds here- sounds pretty common. Irritating though hope the blood comes out of your top!

Re: the encouraging baby to be early thing- ds was born at 38+ completely to our surprise (had fully expected to go the "normal" first time 2 weeks over) and although I've tried to mentally prepare for being overdue again (reverse psychology, like your thinking SKitty, like your thinking) last weeks' early labour thingummy has scuppered that and now I can't get out of a chair without thinking "ooo ouch that hurt oh my god am I going into labour is that my waters was it first contractions?" Don't want the baby to come earlier than it's ready for but I have a feeling that the next few weeks are going to be looooooong. Am 37 weeks today and the thought of wondering at every niggle for another 5 weeks doesn't just fill me with dread it downright pisses me off tbh!

Enjoy your pineapples and RLT fellow weebles (dh's current nickname for me, I get affectionately referred to as Weebs) xx

Poledra · 16/06/2008 12:11

No to nappy bin

Yes to nosebleeds and pg - I wouldn't worry about one, Heffa, can happen so easily

Congratulations to Minipink - beautiful baby and lovely name!

Can you tell I'm at work? last week though - hurrah!!!

JODIEhavingababy · 16/06/2008 12:13

MINKUS, am going next weekend... Can't wait!

Heffagooday · 16/06/2008 12:15

Ok, thanks for reassurance I was just a bit shocked.

Libralady - Megan Louisa is a beautiful name.

DonutMum · 16/06/2008 13:09

Libra. No to nappy bins - they stink and not only that take the skin off your fingers if you're not careful. Avoid. Will be using reusable nappies on this lo.

CilC · 16/06/2008 13:49

Hi Everyone!
Happy Anniversary Piggley! Wow your first one! DH and I are celebrating ten years in September...I feel so old!

I actually loved my nappy bin and it never smelt. (Trust me i am slightly obsessive about cleanliness and smells). It was great at night time! It was one of the more expensive ones...can't recall which, but have bought another one but it is packed away in the loft. I found things smelt more if left in a bin - even for a few hours during the night. If you live in an appartment I would have thought they were essential.

I found button down tops with a stretchy vest underneath the best way to bf. The shirt covered my belly (undid top buttons) and the vest my boobs! Think a boob tube would also be a great idea.

I need to go and rest while DD is not here...still not sleeping and feel so exhausted!
