The 'big babies' programme was a load of sensationalist twonk. The women who had bigger baies had them because they\their husbands were big and could carry a big baby, or they had gestational diabetes that can affect lots of pregnant women regardless of size. I have some very good friends with HUGE babies that are exclusively breastfed and ate a normal diet during pregnancy.

No one can deny that a junk food diet is unhealthy, for mother and baby. However eating a bit of junk is not going to do any harm and getting yourself through the hideous icky phase is all important as far as i am concerned.

So i say eat your noodles and Krispy Kreme donuts A little FYI i craved KK donuts in my last pregnancy and have been known to do do a 4 hour round trip just for them I also had friends sending me them in the post

They have built a store right near me now and i have not craved them yet!!!! Blardy typical.

I have dug out a pair of very worn out maternity jeans today and i feel soooo much more comfortable. Thats it then, slipper slope to chunky monkey for me

ColumbosWife · 15/06/2008 20:39

I think I am going to have to dig out my pregnancy jeans too, largeginand tonic. Went to the cinema with dh the other day and half way through the film started to feel these terrible stabbing pains. Oh no, another miscarriage starting, I thought. But when I got home and in my pyjamas, I realised it was just my jeans cutting into my growing tummy.

happyathome · 15/06/2008 20:49

what do they do at first midwife appointment then if you're on your second?
listen to HB?,blood tests?
mine on Thursday
good luck everyone with monday scans

ColumbosWife · 15/06/2008 20:53

At my first midwife appointment this time, it was mainly lots of paperwork..they ask all the details of previous births, family history and ask are you eating well/do you know what to avoid etc. I have had the first blood tests too but that was with the nurse. The midwife didn't listen to the heartbeat. I don't know if their equipment can pick it up yet? Hope it goes well, Happy.

Tink, Spink, MrsSparkle - only a few more hours until our scans tomorrow. Keeping those fingers firmly crossed!

Mine is at 3pm and I also have my first MW appointment at 11:45am so it will be an exciting day (and I have taken the whole day off work so it means I also get a lie-in, yay!!!)

Big hugs to everyone. xx

LooseyC · 15/06/2008 22:27

Good luck for your scans!

Just had my Mum staying for a week and have just about been able to keep it a secret from her - felt a bit guilty about doing it, but hey. She'll still be as pleased when she finds out I hope!

I am becoming paranoid about the state of my increasingly wobbly stomach - I'm starting to lose count of the number of people who have asked recently if we're going to have another kid!

Also - I keep saying I have no symptoms but can now only drink water or orange-flavoured fizzy drinks, Hmmmm... I recommend Orangina!

chefswife · 15/06/2008 23:08

some ladies mentioned McDonald's!!! ouch!!! don't touch that stuff, no matter how much it smells good when you walk by. (they actually have scents that are expelled in the air) the hamburger 'meat' and shakes are about 50% styrofoam. it's a legal bulking agent that can be added to fast food. the french fries have a added chemical in the oil they are fried in because they can't use beef extract anymore because of vegetarians. i do have cravings as well but if the junk food has any dodgy ingredients, i won't touch it. i wouldn't eat before i was pregnant so why start now. there are healthy alternatives... organic chocolate. granny smith apples are a big hit with me right now and i usually don't eat apples... drink apple juice though. dh has been very good at making me anything i want. had sausages and pancakes for breakfast. going to make a chocolate cake just for me later. just for me. (had some chocolate muffins the other day and dh and uncle ate the lot! greedy beggers. they were mine! mine! mine!)

ps. you can have cured meats cooked on a pizza!!! ah, pizza. think i'll make one of them too.

happyathome · 15/06/2008 23:16

thanks columbo

tinkisrevitalised · 16/06/2008 08:40

mel2005 · 16/06/2008 10:32

really?
it still said full bladder on my letter (my scan is next tuesday) i have been worrying about having a full bladder as its my third baby and my muscles are not as strong as before. if they are delayed and make me wait i am sure to have to go and then they will not be pleased.
I will be so delighted if i dont have to down a bottle of water and sit there with my legs crossed.

fourlittlefeet · 16/06/2008 11:24

just done some googling on this and its still not clear.

with DC1 I didn't have a full bladder for either scan and the sonographer said they could get in the way of seeing the baby.

obviously if they are asking for on your letter, things are different in your neck of the woods

sorry, didn't mean to confuse!

I meant Nuchal!!!!!!

mel2005 · 16/06/2008 13:44

congrats tinks
i think i am just going to have a small amount of water and take some in. i dont want to be too full. i cant wait but i am scared that there will be something wrong.

largeginandtonic · 16/06/2008 13:51

My scan notes said no neeed for full bladder, thank goodness. I have been in agony before!

How is everyone?

FLF The girls are going crazy on the thread!

I am so zombie like, i feel like i am caught in a fug! Must come out of it soon, it is so knackering.

iwouldgoouttonight · 16/06/2008 14:46

I was told to have a full bladder for my scan last week and had to wait for 40 mins (even though I was the first appt of the day) so it was agony when they pressed the scanning thing on my stomach!

Been feeling really fed up the last two or three days, just woken up in the morning just feeling flat - nothing in particular is worrying me, I'm just feeling tired and down. Hope I get through this bit soon, don't like it! I'm supposed to be working today and have done hardly anything - keep thinking if I'm not going to get any work done I might as well clean the bathroom or do some weeding so I've not wasted my day completely but I can't be bothered to do that either!

I'm at the in-between clothes stage too - my maternity trousers just fall down but my normal trousers won't do up! Having to do a combination of safety pins and long tops and then can't wait to put my pyjamas on at the end of the day!

MissHairspray · 16/06/2008 15:10

Congrats Tink that is great!

I managed to resuscitate a pair of trousers with a nappy pin so I now have two pairs to get me through the next few weeks. Am pretty sure that as its my first it must be fat and not baby (or babies x2 - eek).

largeginandtonic · 16/06/2008 16:03

Misshairspray. I have dug out maternity trousers from H&M, they are fab. They are normal jeans but have a roll down band on the top so it wouldnt matter how little the bump was they are fine.

Congrats on the little bean Tink! Have your dates stayed the same?

Poor you Iwould! It hurts like hell doesnt it! Must be different scanning machines have greater viewing abilities. Nightmare for us poor water filled balloons.

LittleSquirt · 16/06/2008 17:10

Hi everyone

My scan went great too! Saw heartbeat and little legs and arms moving!!! It was amazing! The Sonographer measured our bean at 27.7 mm so she said I should be 9+3 today (I thought I was 9+1) and brought my EDD fwd to 16th Jan (from 18th after previous scan). That's fine with me!

My 12-week scan is now booked for 7th July at 3pm, I hope the next couple of weeks will go fast!

Tink - great news on your scan too!

MrsSparkle and Spink - how did you get on?

x

MissHairspray · 16/06/2008 17:19
