Morning! 29 hours til scan. not that I'm counting .

Am thinking of taking DD with us to it. Am I being ridiculous? DP said he'd hold her. On the one hand this is our time with the new little bean, but on the other I feel this affects us all as a family. Also can't work out if I'd be more relaxed knowing she is with us and ok rather than leaving my friend having to look after two little monsters in public. Also if its bad news, I'll want a big cuddle from DD. grr. hard decision.

mrsmontano · 08/07/2008 10:18

flf some hospitals wont allow children in the room for scans, so I'd call and check if you are planning to take your little one, otherwise if you all just turn up on the day you may have to have your scan by yourself while your DP waits outside with DD.
If they say it's ok, then I guess just do whatever feels best for you and your family.

good luck!

iwouldgoouttonight · 08/07/2008 10:59

FLF - when I went for my scan I was the only person on my own (DP couldn't get time off work) and everyone else had kids with them and they all went in for the scan together. But yes i'd phone first because your hospital might be different (actually on my letter it said I could only take one person with me due to lack of space but everyone else apparently just ignored that!)

I think I'd have taken DS with me if I could - it might help him understand about the 'baby in mummy's tummy' a bit more too (he's a bit confused at the minute thinking I've eaten a baby!)

LittleSquirt · 08/07/2008 13:29

Morning everyone

Welcome Kittenpaws!

Thanks for the reassurance LGT - I am still waiting for my "combined" results but it's reassuring to know that 2mm seems to be in the "normal" range already. Fingers crossed my blood results are good too.

Loosey & flf - good luck for your scans tomorrow, not long to wait now!
BTW, have you been told to have a full bladder for the scan? I was but when the sonographer started looking, it was actually "too" full!! Our bean was face down as well so we really couldn't see him/her very well, we couldn't see the face. The sonographer told me to go for a wee and it did the trick: bean had turned on its back so we got a great picture of it's little face - you can just about make out a little nose! And the baby was moving loads once it had more room!!
It was also much more comfy for me with an empty bladder as you can imagine!

Anyway, I'll be thinking of you at 2pm and 3pm tomorrow, let us know how you got on afterwards. It's an amazing experience! x

Periwink · 08/07/2008 13:36

Welcome to Ginni and Kitenpaws and anyone else i may have left out. have been away for 5 days and just trying to catch up on the thread.

Poor - great news about twins. Yes I clearly remember reading that you thought you might be having twins!

Aniyan - sorry to hear your news.

My pregnancy belly made its first appearance yesterday, I look a bit chubby not pregnant. 14 weeks pregnant now.

LenniEd · 08/07/2008 14:02

Welcome Kittenpaws - Congratulations.

FLF - I took DD with me, but made sure we asked the sonographer if it was OK to bring her in when we were called. Might be worth calling the hospital to see if they have a policy on it.

When I went for my scan at the same hospital in my first pregnancy the sonographer had a bit of a rant about people bringing a string of people and/or kids for a medical examination. She said "You don't bring your whole family to a smear test do you, what if I have to do an internal and you've got your FIL there?" - thought that was a bit OTT and insensitive really. DH looked very much like this when she said it.

mel2005 · 08/07/2008 14:23

i had my DD and OH with me for my first scan and just DD for the nuchal, for the next one i will have my DD and DS and no OH as he will be busy. they didnt say anything. surely they have to just accept that some people dont have anybody to look after their children. they had a huge play area in the waiting room so i think they expect children. To be honest it was nice having DD see the babies, she was asked what we will call them and she said 'IGGLE and PIGGLE' and demonstrated to OH how they were wriggling later on. i wouldnt take anyone else with me, like the in-laws but there were people who did take the whole family with them and they had to sit outside.
i will be in and out alot so i think they will be used to my children, altough they did let me book scan times when they are at nursery when possible.
good luck to all who have scans this week.

Chocsolot · 08/07/2008 14:27

Hello,

Welcome to the new joiners (have just been reading back) and congrats on all those successgul scans so far.

Good luck to all those getting scans today.

I had mine yesterday, it was cool, we were in there over an hour because the baby wouldn't keep still and so they couldn't get the measurements, it kept waving its bottom in the air and waving we could see its fingers and everything. Feel like i have put on loads of weight though, the sonographer was so rude, he said i best weight for my 20 week scan until i am 22 weeks "as i am such a large lady" - bloody cheek, i am only a size 14 (albeit almost 6ft!)!

Its so cool though, it was 61.9mm and they have moved my due date to 16th so I have updated the list:

Chocs, what a rude sonographer!

rrrayray · 08/07/2008 16:26

Chocs- i cannot BELIEVE your sonographer SAID that, 14 is nowhere near a "LARGE LADY" isn't the UK Average a 16? So that infact makes you more on the small side!

Am i being a little silly as a first timer, but i can't see the reasoning behind requesting a full bladder? surely like squirt said, can be too full and a hinderance?

witchandchips · 08/07/2008 16:32

My scan was yesterday and all seems fine though at advanced age of 40 have to wait for the bloods to be sure. Have proper bump now which is a great excuse to spend £££ at Isabella Oliver

Is anybody else beginning to feel less crap?

Chocsolot · 08/07/2008 17:05

Thank you everyone, I was a bit shocked by his lack of bed side manner, DH squeezed my hand nicely as he said it i think he was worried i was going to say something!

I am beginnign to feel less crap too..... but have been nervous abotu admitting it in case i tempt fate, but i have been here since 8 and am only just thinking of leaving (that wouldn't have happened 3 weeks ago) and i can stay up to goen 10 now rather than my feeble crawlgin into bed before 8.30 ..... fingers crossed this continues!

fourlittlefeet · 08/07/2008 19:50

Chocs, I'd complain about that. Its completely out of order. Especially if it wasn't just banter in response to something you said. ooohhh let them just try to say something like that to me, those pregnancy hormones are currently raging good and proper!

nope still feel tired, sicky and like shite, though only 12+3 currently so looks like I need a good 10 days to sort it out. Am really spotty at the moment too, though remember that particular favourite from last time. grrr. bring on the blooming blooming I say.

Evening all,

Glad to hear all the scans are going do well

witchandchips, i am feeling better than i have for weeks. Not feeling sick at all now, although now i've said it...

I have my second midwife appointment tomorrow. I hope i get to hear the heartbeat, i haven't heard it yet, i have only seen the baby at the scan. I LOVE hearing the heartbeat, it gets me going good and proper!

I think i have a blood test tomorrow as well >>yikes

Ginni · 08/07/2008 22:07

Hi LittleSquirt but hang on, you missed me of your list, i'm a newbie posted the other day - i'm due 2nd Jan. Had my first scan already i'll try and post a pic up. I only found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago!

JamInMyWellies · 09/07/2008 09:05

Good luck today flf.

poorbuthappy · 09/07/2008 09:18

Morning all
Hope everyone is ok and wearing comfortable clothes!

Nuchal scan went well - very low risk, consultant confirmed identical, 1 placenta, 2 sacs making me half way up the high risk ladder.

NHS chorioncity scan yesterday - she said non identical, 2 placentas, 2 sacs, making me low on the high risk ladder.

Thoroughly confused and a teensy wee worried that the NHS think I am less high risk than the private scan consultant does.
No more appts now until the 29th August for my 20 week scan so I guess I just have to get on with it!

Or ring someone ranting about it next week, not sure how I'm going to handle it...

LenniEd · 09/07/2008 09:38

Good luck FLF - will be thinking of you.

Poor - not sure what to say. Doesn't the private scan get copied to your GP anyway? Might be best to chase it up with your GP if it does and your GP is nice. I always find they are the best people to fight your corner on most things. I'm still excited for you having twins - everytime I read one of your posts I think how wonderful - I must have subconciously wanted twins I think, although am perfectly happy with singles .

Had a letter from my GP saying I am iron deficient. Explains a lot of things recently, like my dizzy spells and sickness getting worse - plus the wall of fatigue that I thought I was never going to get through.

Mel - we thought it was rude about children too and we didn't have any at the time. Like you I can't always get childcare for my appointments so DD will have to come to some of them.

Chocs - can't believe your sonographer! I am a size 16, so you are definately slimmer than me. I dread to think what they were saying when I left the room.

fourlittlefeet · 09/07/2008 09:52

Thanks guys.. am getting nervous now! LC good luck with yours; will be back on asap to post our news... 4 hours to go...gulp.

Suffered a bout of crazy insomnia last night for about an hour and a half with the words blighted ovum repeating themselves to me. why do we do this to ourselves? Surely there are enough years of guilt and worry ahead. Ugghh.

Anyway, am thinking lots of positive fat happy baby thoughts today and still feeling preggers.

OP posts:
mel2005 · 09/07/2008 10:05

oh poor, i would ring your NHS consultant or midwife and explain what the two results said. it is VERY different having one placenta as there can be twin to twin transfusion / one could get more supply than the other and they should monitor you more. i was origionally told a scan every 4 weeks up to 20 weeks and every two weeks after until 30 weeks then every week until birth. but because i am lower risk i now dont have another scan until 20 weeks and then every 4 weeks after that unless there is a problem.
tell them it is important that you know for sure.

mel2005 · 09/07/2008 10:12

POOR i just noticed that you have a little girl the same age as my little boy. have you told her yet? both of my children are so excited there are two babies. i am going to get them involved in the bottle feeding and helping me change nappies. we already have been practicing on the babyborn dolls that drink and wee (although they do spend alot of time being dragged along by one arm).

elkiedee · 09/07/2008 10:15

Fingers crossed for your scan flf.

fourlittlefeet · 09/07/2008 10:19

thanks Elkie

poor - sorry, bit self obsessed this morning! Very odd that you have had such different results..doesn't exactly build confidence. Is is worth another scan?
